About Activity
Explore Inishmore at your own pace on a self-guided cycling tour, choosing your own route and discovering the island’s ancient heritage and natural wonders. Visit ancient stone forts and churches, see pagan standing stones, and look out for seal colonies and a wide variety of wildlife. Discover the Worm Hole, a remarkable natural formation where the sea ebbs and flows into a naturally carved rectangular pool, before cycling to Dun Aengus, a prehistoric stone fort located approximately 30 minutes or 4 miles away. Perched on the edge of a dramatic 300-foot-high cliff overlooking the Atlantic, this impressive semi-circular fort features an inner court measuring 50 metres across, enclosed by a wall up to six metres high and five metres thick at its base, with an outer defensive rampart formed by closely spaced pointed stones. Its spectacular position and remarkable construction have made Dun Aengus one of Europe’s finest prehistoric monuments. After your ride, return to Kilronan, the main village on Inishmore, where you can relax at one of the island’s shops, pubs, or restaurants and enjoy the local atmosphere.
