About Activity
Enjoy the freedom to explore Inishmore at your own pace on a self-guided cycling tour. Choose your route and discover the island’s ancient stone forts and churches, pagan standing stones, seal colonies, and diverse wildlife. Along the way, visit the Worm Hole, a remarkable natural formation where the sea ebbs and flows into a naturally carved rectangular pool. Continue to Dun Aengus, a prehistoric stone fort located approximately 30 minutes or 4 miles away and one of the island’s most remarkable archaeological sites. Perched dramatically on the edge of a 300-foot-high cliff overlooking the Atlantic, the semi-circular fort features an inner court measuring 50 metres across, enclosed by a wall up to six metres high and five metres thick at its base, with an outer defensive rampart formed by closely spaced pointed stones. Its spectacular setting and impressive construction have made Dun Aengus one of Europe’s most notable prehistoric monuments. After your cycle, return to Kilronan, the main village on Inishmore, and relax at one of its shops, pubs, or restaurants while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the island.
