About Activity
Explore Inishmore at your own pace on a self-guided cycling tour, choosing your route and discovering the island’s ancient heritage, dramatic landscapes, and natural wonders. Visit ancient stone forts and churches, see pagan standing stones, and look out for seal colonies and a wide variety of wildlife along the way. One of the island’s highlights is the Worm Hole, a remarkable natural formation where the sea ebbs and flows into a naturally carved rectangular pool. Continue to Dun Aengus, an impressive prehistoric fort located approximately 30 minutes or 4 miles away. Perched dramatically on the edge of a 300-foot-high cliff overlooking the Atlantic, the semi-circular fort features an inner enclosure measuring 50 metres across, surrounded by a wall up to six metres high and five metres thick at its base, with an outer defensive rampart formed by closely spaced pointed stones. Its spectacular setting and remarkable construction have led many experts to regard Dun Aengus as one of Europe’s finest prehistoric monuments. After your ride, return to Kilronan, the main village on Inishmore, where you can relax at one of its shops, pubs, or restaurants and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of the island.
