I enjoyed very much! If you have a good experience in anuradhapra, you should join this tour. I saw many important historic sites. And I also I experienced the atmosphere and the breeze of the town. The guide (Mr. Saranga) was very kind and a knowledgeable person. He explained each historical site in detail. At the end of the trip, I had a tasty lunch. I also enjoyed it. One advice : you should go to a rest room before the tour start.

The Samadhi Buddha is a famous statue situated at MahamevnΔwa Park in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. The Buddha is depicted in the position of the Dhyana Mudra, the posture of meditation associated with his first Enlightenment. This statue is 7 feet 3 inches in height and carved from dolomite marble.

Kuttam Pokuna (twin ponds or pools) are well preserved old bathing tanks or ponds in Sri Lanka. This pair of ponds was built by the Sinhalese in the ancient Anuradhapura Kingdom. They form part of the Abhayagiri vihΔra complex and are an example of the works in the field of hydrological engineering, architecture and art of the ancient Sinhalese.
The Elephant Pond (Eth Pokuna) in Anuradhapura is a massive ancient reservoir built during the reign of the kings in Sri Lanka's historical Anuradhapura Kingdom. Measuring approximately 159 meters in length, 52 meters in width, and 9.5 meters in depth, it was used to supply water to the nearby monasteries. The pond's name likely comes from its enormous size, suggesting it could even accommodate elephants. A testament to ancient Sri Lankan engineering, the pond highlights the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the era's hydraulic systems

We would definitely recommend this cycle tour.
This was such an enjoyable experience and we learned so much. Saranga was our guide and he was so very kind and humble and happy to teach us about the ancient city and the Buddhist culture. He was simply excellent and I'd recommend anybody to take this tour with him. The bicycling was light and easy enough for anyone of a moderate level fitness.
Great tour with a friendly and knowledgeable guide who shared fascinating insights into Anuradhapuraβs history. Highly recommended!
This is the best way to see Anuradhapura whilst getting some gentle exercise. We visited areas between the main Stupas which are inaccessible by car and too far to walk. Saranga was an excellent guide, he explained the history and spiritual significance of all we saw. The snack stop had excellent dhaal cookies and hoppers. The bikes were well maintained and the riding easy. This has been one of the best experiences we have had in Sri Lanka.
This is the best way to explore the sights of Anuradhapura! Saranga really added a lot of value to our visit, not only by telling us about what we saw and visited, but also by enlightening us about the meaning of Buddhism. The bikes are great, mineral water all the way and some local delicious snacks en route. He stays away from main roads, and the backroads are a lot of fun. And even more important, a lot of it in the shade of magnificent trees, so it never felt too hot. We did the afternoon tour and it felt more quiet than it probably would have been in the morning. Highly recommendable!
Awesome tour! Donβt hesitate to book this amazing value, comfortable and comprehensive tour. It made visiting the site so easy. Get a driver to drive you to the ticket office to buy tickets (they take credit card), then drop you and pick you up from the meeting point sent through Get Your Guide. The guide was a fountain of knowledge and had excellent and clear English. We loved cycling along some quiet, shady tracks and along the edge of the reservoir, which you would not get in a tuktuk. The guide worked out an excellent route and you got to see and experience all the highlights and some lesser visited special places without getting lost or backtracking. A delicious vegetarian lunch was also included. Fabulous value. Definitely the best tour of our whole trip to SL. We loved seeing all the living culture here as well - lots of groups of villagers and monks and so many beautiful flower offerings.
Very nice guy, lots to tell, and finishing with a nice βtasteβ of Sri Lanka!
My 14 year old daughter and I had a wonderful experience with Saranga as he guided us through the area. We visited amazing beautiful stupas, ancient sites and made a beautiful scenic ride through the rice fields of nearby villages. Lunch was really good too but mostly Sarangaβs storytelling on Buddhism and life in Sri Lanka is what made this bicycle trip unforgettable. Highly recommended!
It was a truly amazing experience! We were 2 families with teenagers and all 7 of us were intriged by all the stories about Buddhism our guide Saranga shared with us. We had lunch at a small local restaurant and it was amazing. This truly was an excellent morning for us and we recommend it very very much βοΈπ±π°
Amazing experience with Saranga cycling through Anuradhapura. Not only a historical but also cultural very interesting tour.
Best tour. Do not hesitate. Book and enjoy the ride. Very relaxing. Best guide. Good explanation
We had only one day in Anuradhapura and I canβt imagine a better way to experience this ancient city. Saranga was an amazing guide. He offered his knowledge about the city and Buddhism freely and openly and seeing it by bike meant that we not only saw the city, but were also able to get a sense of how the villagers lived today as we travelled between the sites. We also stopped to try some local fruits & other foods along the way, and finished with a delicious lunch. All in all, in of the best experiences weβve had in Sri Lanka.
This was a great tour - the guide was excellent and knew a lot about the sites as well as Buddhism. Riding bikes was also a treat and a great way to see the town, including riding through a village. Would definitely recommend and do it again if back in town
We had a lovely afternoon with Saranga, who was engaging, knowledgeable and friendly! This tour is a great way to explore the city and its tourist sites whilst also seeing how the locals live. Lunch was cooked in front of us and very delicious. Would recommend highly!!
Had the best day with an amazing Guide. Could not recommend highly enough. One of the best tours ever had. Bike ride and Guide knowledge was fantastic Thanks for a fantastic day Trudy and Ian
Suranga our guide was terrific and really knowledgeable. We heard his story as well as being filled in on the history of the different historic sites that we visited and and learnt some of the pearls of wisdom from the Buddhist culture. The bikes were roadworthy and comfortable. The ride was a good mix of quieter roads and some beautiful dirt tracks through heritage forest areas and rice paddyβs. We finished with a delicious authentic Sri Lankan meal at an organic cafe. Overall fantastic experience. Definitely recommend it to anyone.
Had a great time visiting Anuradhapura with the cycling tour of Saranga. He is a great guide, very knowledgeable and you can ask him everything!
It was really nice to get to know more about Sri Lanka through the cycling tour. It was nice to cycle because we were able to reach places that were more difficult with tuktuk. I had a lovely time in Anuradhapura and loved seeing the temples!! I would very much recommend this tour! Starting location was a bit challenging to find with the tuktuk driver but in the end we were able to find it.
Saranga, gave us a great day! Really appreciate him for sharing all his knowledge about Buddhism and the locations we visited. He talks about Buddhism, the practices of Buddhism and the locations we visited. Provided great local lunch, letting you experience the Sri Lankan kitchen. And also the ride was great, giving you a different view of the city through the rice fields! Definitely a recommendation to do this tour when visiting Anuradhpura. ππΌ
What a great way to experience the iconic (and little-known) gems of Anuradhapura! Thanks Saranga for taking me on as your group of 1! Saranga is well-spoken and his charm and humor make this an A+ tour. Besides learning a great deal about Buddhism, local culture and customs - I also enjoyed a delicious meal at a traditional Sri Lanka Food Court run by local women. (You will not find this in any tourist guide!) Last but not least, Saranga helped me with some train arrangements and even took me to the Railway Station to see the actual schedule! He's a kind and compassionate soul. Don't hesitate to book this Heritage Bike Tour with Saranga!
We had the most amazing cycle tour with Saranga. He made the whole experience so interesting. We learnt so much, not only about the ancient city but also about Buddhism - we are so glad we booked this tour.
We did the afternoon tour with Saranga today and are so glad we didn't listen to all the travel blogs who say that you shouldn't cycle and skip the old city. We had an amazing time with Saranga, his English is perfect, he knows so much about the history of Anuradhapura and can explain really well what Buddhism means to the people of Sri Lanka! We really felt like we understood Anuradhapura and it's people so much better after 4,5 hours with Saranga! He's such a kind soul and also really cares about his community, we had a break for snacks at a little stall on the side of the road, a place I would normally never stop myself but we had the most delicious snacks and Saranga told us he'd rather share his income with others so if he can bring a small stall owner some businesses, that's what he will do. He's also funny and relaxed, takes it easy on the bike, shows you the quiet/hidden spots and wants you to have the best time. We ended our tour at the big white stupa during the evening which was just magical! If you want a true local experience, learn about the history of Anuradhapura and Buddhism and support a small tour operator who really wants the best for not only himself but the people around him..book Saranga! Don't listen to the travel blogs who say it's too hot to bike, it's always warm in Anuradhapura but with the bike you'll get a nice breeze and feel very proud of yourself afterwards! Ps. The tour is worth way more than Saranga is asking for ;)
Saranga is a very gentle and well informed guide who can tell a lot about all the interesting temples in Anaradhapura, and Buddhism. He will take you to places where you would otherwise not freely take a look. The tour is not strictly along the highlights but also through the surroundings and rice fields. He stopped at a local eatery where we were suprised by tasteful local dishes. He even extended the tour a bit because we had to wait for the pouring rain to stop. I can absolutely recommend this tour and guide! π
Weβve been here in Sri Lanka for 2 months, and this has to be one of my favorite experiences so far. Visiting these sites with Saranga really helped deepen our understanding of the places, and make the whole experience a lot more meaningful. His knowledge of Buddhism is deep, and it was so nice discussing Buddhist principles and philosophy with him. It is clear he lives these principles authentically and has a good heart! Also- I was unsure about going on bikes in the heat, but Iβm glad we chose to. You get a bit of a breeze while riding, and it was much more peaceful than it would have been in a tuk tuk. Cannot recommend this tour enough. Thank you, Saranga! π
Saranga is a funny and friendly guide that shared a lot of history about the site as well as the culture of the country. I really appreciate him accepted my booking as I am a solo traveller which he could have chosen to take a group instead. Overall, I enjoyed the tour so much!
This was definitely a highlight of my trip in Sri Lanka! Loved the history and Stories Saranga shares of this beautiful and most significant historical, cultural, and religious site. Biking is the best way to explore Anuradhapura. We biked through rice fields, lakes, and villages to visit different archaeological sites, something you canβt do in a car or tuktuk! And thank you Saranga for helping me sort out my transport to Negombo!
We have a great experience during our cycling tour. Saranga was very accommodating, and knowledgeable. This is a great way to see the Unesco sites, and get some exercise at the same time. Highly recommend!
Our guide was super friendly and knowledgable about Buddhism and all the buddhist building, ruins and customs. We learned and experienced so much and touring the surroundings by bike was really the best experience. We rode through sun and an enormous downpour, which was both enjoyable. We also really loved the local meal. Overall, a really superb experience! Highly recommended.
Cannot recommend enough, best way to experience Anuradhapura. Thank you Saranga for sharing your knowledge!
Incredible tour. This started our trip off and we know this will be one of our highlights of our time in Sri Lanka. Worth every second. Thank you so much for the best time!
Nice way to see Anuradhapura and also get information on what you can see there. The guide is very nice and easy to communicate with.
Had an amazing bicycle tour in Anuradhapura. The guide is very friendly, speaks good English and knows everything about the surroundings and Buddhism. The tour brings you also around more quiet and hidden places. Would highly recommend!
Could not have asked for a better morning for a exploration of all the major sights in Anuradhapura. Saranga was knowledgeable about the archeology and history of the sight as well as SriLankan Budism in general and delivers it all with a smile. Strongly recommend to anyone who visiting who wants a fun and educational tour. With the bonus of cycling in some clean air and through off the beaten track spots !
Had the most special experience with Saranga as a guide! We learnt so much about the Ancient city and temples with our knowledgable guide. It was great to be part of something so authentic - the visit to Ruwanweli Maha Seya was amazing! Lots of the other tours we did in Sri Lanka seem to have less authenticity and was just made for tourists, so this was so refreshing to experience something unique and real. It rained during our tour but we didnβt care in the slightest. We had a few stops for tea & food along the way with locals, which was a really nice touch and a window into like in Sri Lanka. (And not trying to sell you anything like a lot of other tours) 100% recommend to come to Anuradhapura when visiting Sri Lanka and take this tour. It was one of the best things we did in our month in the country. Thank you Saranga!
This heritage mountain bike tour in Anuradhapura was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka π΄ββοΈπΏ. Exploring such an ancient and vast site by bike is the perfect way to do it: it allows you to cover a lot of ground while still feeling completely immersed in the surroundings, far more engaging than travelling by car or tuk-tuk. The bikes were comfortable and well maintained, and the pace of the tour was relaxed and enjoyable. Our guide was absolutely fantastic: extremely knowledgeable, kind, and passionate about the history and culture of Anuradhapura. His explanations about Buddhism, the ancient kingdoms, and the significance of each site really brought the place to life and made the experience both educational and inspiring. We cycled through some of the most important monuments, stunning stupas, sacred temples and peaceful natural landscapes, often stopping to admire details you might otherwise miss. Being surrounded by nature, history and silence made the whole experience feel very special and authentic. Everything was well organised, from start to finish, and the tour offered a beautiful balance between history, culture and outdoor activity. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Anuradhapura β itβs a memorable, meaningful and unique way to experience one of Sri Lankaβs most important heritage sites
MUST DO in anuradhapura. This trip was amazing. Mountainbiking between tempels and sightseeing in between was wonderfull. Maybe ask about his life story, it will give you a perspective of whatβs most important in life!π
Saranga is a friendly and knowledgeable guide showing you the must see places and more. The small group makes for a great tour. Together with the lunch at a local place completes the experience.
The highlight of our trip so far. This was a fantastic bike tour of Anuradhapura. Saranga was very informative not only of the site but also the meaning of Buddhism. Rounded off with a great lunch cooked by local village women.
Excellent morning's cycle ride with relevant and intelligent guidance by Saranga and great fun. He speaks very good English and has a great sense of humour. Bike and helmet was in good condition and he looked after us really well throughout the ride and whilst touring the temples and other sights of Anuradhapura. Highly recommend Saranga, his company & the experience .
Trip was organized well and everything went according to plan. Saranga is a great guide and he was able to answer all of our questions. I recommend afternoon slot as it's not that hot and you can see the temple after sunset.
What a truly wonderful day we had! It was without a doubt one of the most beautiful days of our holiday. After two and a half weeks of traveling through Sri Lanka, my husband was feeling a bit temple-weary. I am so happy that I found this tour on TripAdvisor. I honestly didnβt know what to expect from Anuradhapura, as we had already seen so many beautiful places, but the cycling tour with Saranga exceeded all my expectations. Saranga brought Buddhism to life in such a meaningful and inspiring way. And cycling through such a stunning and peaceful landscape was simply amazing. I feel deeply grateful for everything this day gave us. Saranga is a truly wonderful person. Thank you for everything β I would recommend this beautiful experience to everyone!
We loved our tour with Saranga - he was all that we look for in a guide - knowledgeable, interesting, helpful and with a good sense of humour. Couldn't fault him or the tour route π
We had a wonderful afternoon with Saranga. We cycled a beautiful route past many sights and through stunning scenery. Saranga enthusiastically shared stories about the rich history and Buddhist rituals. Easy for beginner cyclists, there can be added something to the route if you want a bit more. I would definitely recommend this trip!
The mountainbike tour with Saranga was amazing. He dedicates his life to spreading the history of the beautiful city of Anuradhapura. He also inspired me very much by telling a piece of his life story. Saranga is a pure and beautiful soul that I would encourage everyone to meet in their travel through Sri Lanka. Thank you brother, keep doing what you do!
Weβve made quite a few trips around the world. This was one of our best. Saranga was our tourguide and showed us the beauty of the landscape, the temples, the history and the spirit. Weβve enjoyed his competent and heartwarming guidance during a 4 hour bike tour with many highlights that we hadnβt seen without him. Thanks for everything. Hope to see you one day again. Susanne & Frank
This was a truly magical tour. The slow pace let's you indulge into the history and the beautiful nature of Anuradhapura's ancient city. The guide was a big plus with a great knowledge about the culture and religion. I can highly recommend this tour!
We had an accidental private tour and Saranga spared time nor effort to make the tour memorable. He led us along all the highlights of the ancient city, taking the local paths, all the while explaining the significance of the sites and engaging in conversation about (buddhist) practices, life and personal stories. We were/are inspired by his story and engagement in his community. His interaction with others made him come across as an authentic guide and human being who practices what he preaches. The stop for the local snacks was also a fun intermezzo and if it werenβt for it we might not have tried the βstreetβ food in Sri Lanka. Thanks again and all the best Saranga! Cheer Nikki & Wesley
This was such a highlight of our trip. The route taken is absolutely epic and a beautiful ride. We were able to ask questions and the day was tailored to our group, giving us choice over what we wanted to see and do. The guide Saranga was funny, kind and knowledgeable. Weβd highly recommend anyone visiting Anuradhapura does this tour. Itβs 100% worthwhile!
What a fantastic day with Saranga ! Riding a bike is a great way to explore the heritage sites. Saranga has a wealth of knowledge and gave us a really informative experience. Not only do you get to ride in the lovely Sri Lankan climate, you get see, hear and smell things that you wouldn't in a car or tuk tuk. Thank you so much Saranga.
