Very disappointing experience. Actually, I want to give 0 stars. When we arrived, it became immediately clear that the apartment did not match the photos or the quality presented on Booking.com. The property was outdated, poorly maintained, and in an unacceptable condition. We found stains on the bed, walls and carpet, the sofa was old and completely different from the one shown in the listing, and there was an unpleasant smell throughout the apartment. Overall, the accommodation was far below what was advertised. Because we did not feel comfortable staying there, we left immediately. We contacted Booking.com straight away, and they advised us to check out and submit a free cancellation request. We followed their instructions exactly. As a result, we had to find and book another hotel at the last minute during a very busy weekend, which caused significant stress, inconvenience and additional expense. The host continued to treat this as a simple cleaning issue and offered to send a housekeeping team. However, our complaint was never just about cleanliness. It was about the overall condition of the apartment and the fact that it did not match the listing we booked. We provided Booking.com with photos and videos documenting the condition of the property, yet no fair resolution or full refund has been offered. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this accommodation.

Central location in the old town, approximately 15-20m walk from main train station. Spacious apartment No. 1 on first floor, cool vibe design, grubby stains on sofa and carpet requires a clean. Nespresso coffee maker but no Sonus sound system as advertised.

De Gulden Schoen has a refined and charming atmosphere that fits perfectly with its historic surroundings. The environment feels calm and well balanced, making it easy to enjoy a relaxed stay. When comparing peaceful experiences I’ve had before, including Saunadelizia, this place stands out as an elegant historic stay focused on comfort and tranquillity.

De Gulde Schoen has beautiful rooms, loads of space and tastefully decorated. The location is great right in the centre of the old city. In room 7 the bed and sofa are huge. As are both TV screens. The shower room is also gigantic although there is no complete privacy. The room is in the centre of the apartment and you can walk past the two giant glass windows on either side looking straight into the room. The toilet is in a separate room right by the living area. In terms of supplies, there is a coffee machine and pods and coffee creamer in the fridge. Two small bottles of water. A kettle and one tea bag. Having said that, there is a supermarket over the road in the basement of the plaza. The worst thing for me was I found the apartment cold at night at 20 degrees and the heating was restricted. There are loads of restaurants and bars on the doorstep. And it's a safe area. Even though it's in the centre, the appartment is really quiet at night.
