Before our week's holiday to Antigua, my husband was keen to climb to the highest point on the island which is Boggy Peak. He knew it would be difficult and wondered how he would find a guide for the walk. On Wednesday we searched the web and read a report on the ascent/descent which then recommended Trek Tours. The Tripadvisor comments encouraged us to email the company. Within an hour or so, he was booked to walk with Dwight on the Friday. An email received on Thursday evening confirmed the next morning's arrangements. This all helped us to feel confident that the booking would take place. A very happy hill walker returned after a few hours. Dwight was every bit as helpful as commented below. He is very knowledgeable about the wildlife and plants. The key advantage of booking a Trek Tours guide to climb Boggy Peak is ... the key! It is not possible to access the very without a key to open the gate to the communications area. Thank you to Trek Tours for your prompt responses to emails and all of the arrangements. Highly recommended.

Darryl was great! His knowledge about the island was truly impressive. He was great at explaining the history of the island, the plants and animals, and the current culture of Antigua. He really exceeded all our expectations! The hike was fun. A good walk, nothing too hard or too easy for a somewhat in shape person. Views at the top are well worth!
Absolutely fantastic hike to the Pillars of Hercules. Dwight was a fantastic and knowledgeable guide who quickly recognised as a pretty fit couple in our early 60s that we'd not be deterred by the more energetic bits of the hike. Pack watershoes for climbing across the rocks at the Pillars of Hercules themselves.
I did the Hike & Sting Ray City combo for GBP 113.51. Both were fantastic. Khalil was a great guide. He arrived at the AirBnb on time. He also stopped so I could grab a quick meal at the side of the road. We hiked the Shirley Heights trail, fantastic views! Unfortunately, it was not a clear day so I could not see Montserrat, but it was beautiful nonetheless. Khalil walked at my pace which was greatly appreciated, and he shared his knowledge of the area and its history. He in fact shared his knowledge on places we drove by as well! At Shirley Heights, you stop for a breather, take pics at the look-out point, and can purchase a drink at the bar. My guide also introduced me to the little fruit on the cactus plants, they were delicious! Trek Tours purchases your ticket for Sting Ray City, the guide checks you in, leaves and returns for pick up after that tour. It was so fun!! Khalil got me there early, so I was able to take my time and change into my swimwear. At pick up time, he also waited so that I could purchase a souvenir. Sting Ray City (Not under Trek Tours’ control): Note that sea shoes are not permitted, they take you out on speedboats to a shallow area with soft sand. You might also wish to bring your own snorkel if you don’t mind using one that Sting Ray City provides. These were not cleaned, they just take them out of the buckets, where they were left from the crowd before. The guides look out for those who can’t swim as you pass by deeper areas (mostly when getting off the platform and walking a few feet to the shallow area). You can bring your phone and have a friend take a photo/take it yourself if you have a waterproof case. They do sell photos taken with a camera by the guides, I opted not to purchase mine. They give a safety briefing before we head out, and they provide beverages when we return (juice or rum punch). The rays are very accustomed to human interaction, so feeding and kissing them (yes, kissing haha) was a smooth magical time :) I was picked up just before 8:00 a.m. and returned to my Airbnb before 1:30 p.m., so about 5.5hr total. Shirley Heights was about a 40 min drive away. I was a solo female traveler, and the only one on the tour, but I felt safe with my male guide. If I had the time to do it again, I’d definitely hike the Pillars of Hercules route and see the sting rays again!!
Great hike. Medium difficulty. Pretty easy for our fit family. Dwight was a great guide. Easy pickup/ drop off
Dwight was amazing. He was able to tell lots of stuff of the forests and introduced me to all the fruits and plants along the way. I booked with the difficult hiking to Mount Obama and it definitely worths it. The entire experience is beautiful and rewarding.
Dwight was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable. The hike was not particularly difficult, but it was very cool.
For the 2nd year in a row we got Rick as a guide to the pillars of hercules. I'm a year older now and Rick was very accommodating at my slower pace and literally offers a helping hand or shoulder when needed. I went further than last year at the base of the pillars. He offers insight on anything you have questions about. I'd ask for him on any hikes you want to go on and you wont regret it. EZ pickup and the cruise port and has water when you need it.
We had a wonderful morning with Dwight. We did the Pillars. It was beautiful and challenging and fun. Took roughly 2 hours to go two miles round trip. We stopped for pics and eased in the water having packed water shoes as well. Dwight was super friendly. Highly recommend for ages 13 and up. We were 21, 56 and age 59.
Signal Hill hike in Antigua with guide Dwight was fantastic. Dwight was very friendly and knowledgeable as we climbed our way through the rainforest. Beautiful views of the Island at the top. Highly recommend this challenging hike. Keith and Janice New Jersey, USA
Nice personalized service, friendly guide. Good pace. Met expectations. Carry your own water and drinks.
We had an amazing morning of hiking. Dwight met us right where the instructions said, right outside the cruise terminal. He expertly navigated downtown traffic, narrating along the way. The hike through the rainforest and up Signal Hill was fantastic and beautiful. Dwight paid attention to the pace we were comfortable with for the hike, which was challenging with a fair amount of elevation gain. The views at the top were amazing and totally worth it! On the way back we took the scenic route with more Antigua facts from Dwight. Would highly recommend this trip!
Did the Mountain Slayer with my family today (wife and 2 sons 12 and 15);with Dwight....... absolutely brilliant. Tough but it was overcast, so could be brutal in the blazing sun. Dwight was brilliant, talking about the flora and fauna, super friendly with a great sense of humour. Would definitely recommend. Thanks for a great morning out guys.
We had a great hike with Shawn! He listened to what we wanted to do and found us the perfect spot - Signal Hill, just the right length and fabulous views of the whole island. He went above and beyond to help us spot birds and gave us some great insight into life on Antigua. Highly recommended!
A wonderful experience hiking and the views from the top were amazing. Rick our guide was so knowledgeable about the island and we had such a laugh with him. He made the trip One for the memory book
Awesome experience! One of our favorite activities we did on this trip. Dwight was our guide and he did a great job explaining the culture, wildlife, plants, and history of the island. He also took us on a bonus side trail which took our breath away. It wasn’t too steep but the trail is rocky so be sure-footed if you book this hike. We will definitely be booking again the next time we’re in Antigua!
Super guided hike! Beautiful route, not too hard, just right! Really enjoyed learning about life on the island while we were with our wonderful guide. Beautiful to see all the island from on top of the mountain!
We booked a private hike and the experience was amazing! Our guide Rick was very knowledgeable about the trail and we always felt safe during the hike. We did the Stinking Toe trail, which was challenging, but exactly what we were hoping for an active day in Antigua. Thank you to Rick for showing us the beauty of Antigua, and thank you Shawn for helping us with booking the perfect hike. The view is worth the hike! Ines and Eric
Great hike with amazing views. Rick did a really great job and I highly recommend the tour and Rick. Thank you for the great experience!
Great hike! This was our second hike with Trek Tours and Kahlil. Great communication in advance and Kahlil is a great guide.
Kahlil met us in St Johns and took our small group to English Harbor for the Lookout Trail and Pillars of Hercules hike. About 30 min van ride. Hike was about 2 1/2 miles total, 400 ft elevation. I’d rate it moderate as there were rocks to climb over and down. Great view at Lookout Pt of English Harbor. Then hiked down to the coast. Unf could not do Pillars due to high tide. Great hike, good exercise! Kahlil had extra water bottles which were needed. Recommend long pants, maybe long sleeves due to thorn bushes. Suntan lotion also. Insects not a problem in February.
Where do I start? Dwight was an amazing tour guide and person. I signed up for the hike and added Zip Lining, (first time. Yikes. Lol). Dwight stopped at a few interesting spots along the way. Bonus since bus tours would just drive by. The hike was interesting. We passed through areas with native catus , aloe Vera plants, warned me not to hit the thorn bushes and many colours of wild flowers. We hiked up to the top. Hung out for a bit whilst Dwight told me of the history where the fort was. And the magnificent view of Antigua. Down we hike to go to Hercules. Awesome. Trek Tours is professional setting up the tour. Dwight was magnificent. I will always look them up to be my tour provider on my next venture!
Rick was an absolutely fabulous guide. From picking us up at our hotel to driving us to the hike, we had the best time. We did the carpenters rock hike and absolutely loved the views and Ricks knowledge of the area. Highly recommend to all.
We loved our hike with Rick. It was a beautiful day and the views were amazing! We had originally booked the Pillars of Hercules tour, but we did not see much of that as the tide was in. Next time I would like to go earlier to complete that section of the trail. Will definitely book again next time we visit the island.
Challenging walk but fine for capable walkers. Rick was a brilliant guide and very informative and friendly. Would recommend this company.
Great weather and a great hike. Our guide, Kahlil was awesome - he modified the hike at the group’s request and we could not have had a better time. The views were incredible!!
We loved the Carpenters Rock hike with Dwight. We got to see beautiful views, learned a lot about Antigua, and got some exercise. Highly recommend!
Rik was amazing, friendly, funny, knowlageable and overall a great guide.... Able to show me some amazing viewpoints and share some interesting history. I will 100% be doing another tour with Trek Tours and was very happy to find out it is a local company. Thanks also to Shawn for answering my questions before the trip very promptly and helpfully.
Amazing experience of hiking to the Pillars of Hercules! Had a great time with the tour guide who was well aware of the area and paths. Rewarded with beautiful views and amazing overall experience
This is a tremendous way to see the scene of Antigua, outside of your resort! It’s also an opportunity to see where the famed “Shirley Heights” is while getting exercise, and a broader experience of the land and culture. Rick (aka Nando who may have other nick names lol) was a great guide with constant topics of discussion. He also gave great background of the country and culture. Then, the grand finale. Stopped for local beer!! Yummy
Once again the fabulous Dwight led us on an awesome hike to the top of signal hill. We saw wild goats, mongoose, moths, humming birds, hermit crabs and experienced a tropical storm! Altogether a brilliant trip. Thanks trek tours.
As a hiker from north east of the US I always try to attend hikes wherever I travel. In Antigua I chose to hike Obama mountain. The environment is different from what I have at home and it made the hike very interesting. The guide Rick was very attentive and knowledgeable, provided us with a lot of information. There are more trails on the island and it's possible to combine them with snorkeling.
Dwight was our guide. Great communication from booking online to where to find them when we got off our ship. Dwight gave us a great tour while driving to our hiking site. We travelled with 4 ladies aged 12, 14, 44, and 71. We chose the signal hill hike which is listed as hard. We are a fairly in shape crew. It was challenging but fun. Just right. Dwight was very aware of how each of us were doing and took breaks when he saw some of us slowing a bit and gave us some great info about flora and fauna we were seeing. We saw burning lemongrass, lots of goats and amazing views. We were picked up at 8am and were back at the boat around 11:30. Total hike time was about 2 hours. The drive back we took a different routes so we could see more of the island.
Had a top tier time with Rick!! He was knowledgeable, friendly, and took us through a beautiful view of the island one doesn’t always see. I’ll definitely be returning.
We did the Carpenter’s Rock hike, which is labeled as “hard”. It definitely had some challenging pieces, but nothing that would cause most people to much trouble. Our guide, Ric, was amazing, sharing information about the island from the time he picked us up at our resort to the time he dropped us off. The views were amazing! This is a great way to get some exercise and see some of the island.
Good hiking up to Lookout. Our guide - Dwight— was friendly, accessible, and knowledgeable about Antigua.
The hike was absolutely amazing. Our guide, Dwight, was super knowledgeable and the whole family loved our adventure.
We very much enjoyed our hike and the beautiful views at the top were worth the effort! Rick was a great conversationalist and since it waa just the two of us on the excursion, he was flexible in our abilities, interests, and questions.
I did two hikes with Dwight during my stay in Antigua and both were fantastic. Dwight is super knowledgeable about the island history, flora and fauna. First we went to Fort Berkeley and Nelson's Dockyard. This was a 3 mile hike with some great views of the coast and the dockyard. The next hike was planned to be up Signal Hill, but because I was the only one on and I have a disproportionate appetite for adventure, we went along Rendezvous Trail instead. We made our way through the forest to Rendezvous Beach and back. This was a more challenging, 6 mile hike with some steep inclines I thoroughly enjoyed both outings and would definitely book with Trek Tours again.
What an experience! Rick was a fantastic guide with knowledge of the vegetation and history of the island. The hike is reasonable for most hikers. Rick was thoughtful throughout the hike pointing out potential hazrds. Trying the local beer is a must!
Amazing hike to Fort Berkeley. From the moment Dwight picked me up he gave all the info about the island that I could have ever wanted. I am a solo traveler and was fortunate to be the only one on this tour due to low season. He was patient and helped me along the trail and we stopped for many water breaks. He was very knowledgeable about the island and its history. I will be doing this tour again when I come. Highly recommend!
Had so much fun. Dwight the guide was very well versed in the eco-system of the island and it's rich history. Taught me all about the flora and fauna that are native to the area and how it has changed since the colonial era. Dwight was very accommodating and outgoing as we hiked to the top of Signal Hill and then went ziplining. Would recommend this excursion to anyone with an adventurous Spirit
Our hike with Dwight was absolutely amazing! Dwight is so knowledgeable and experienced. He made us feel safe and shared a great deal of information about the island with us. We booked the “easy” hike to Pillars of Hercules. Dwight said it’s easy and more like a walk. We were a little disappointed when he said it was a walk, because we did want a hike and boy did we get it! I’m 52 and even though I walk quite a bit at home, this was no walk. We walked up and then down hilly, rocky trails, which was so worth it for the views at the top. Getting to the Pillars of Hercules involved climbing over and around a bunch of big rocks and boulders. Definitely not easy and while it was challenging, it was so worth every bit! I have bad knees and ankles so while I struggled some, Dwight made sure I was safe and never rushed us, showing us the safest route. Dwight is an incredible guide and this is a must do excursion!
Thank you for the wonderful hike yesterday morning! I thoroughly enjoyed Rick's company, and I enjoyed our conversation too. The views up on the highest points of the trek were breathtaking! We could see Montserrat in the distance, as it was quite a clear morning. We passed beautiful wild flora and fauna, including flowering cactus and sheep and goats. We passed a few fellow hikers along the way too. I would definitely recommend this hike, a group brisk morning exercise whilst seeing some of the beautiful sights of Antigua, including Shirley Heights, English Harbour etc. Thank you for a Saturday morning well spent!
My husband and I did the Pillars of Hercules tour on 4/14 with Dwight and had a great time! When we saw photos of the location, we knew we had to see it for ourselves. Dwight was right on time to pick us up at our resort and he was friendly and provided us with a lot of interesting information about the areas that we passed through on our ride. We added a side quest to the Mermaid Pools which was amazing. We were fortunate enough to experience our hike durning a very low tide which allowed us to see many areas that are not typically accessible. Dwight let us take as much time as we wanted to take photos and explore the area. When we return to Antigua in the future, we will absolutley book more hikes with Trek Tours.
100% highly recommend given difficulty to navigate the trail itself and to be able to access to the summit. Our guide was amazing.
Booked through SEG and Rick was our guide. Turns out we were the only 2 on the tour and it was fantastic. We realized while we would have found the trails on our own, Rick knew the best way to go and judged our abilities accurately . We aren't athletes and still needed bit help up the difficult trail but he was always there to literally lend a hand. Climbing up and over the pillars was amazing. Sometimes you are merely a foot or 2 from the edge so that added to the excitement. Seeing goats and a person fishing from the cliffs was awesome. once we hiked down to beach level I crossed the rocks to get to the front of the pillars. My gf stayed behind as it was a bit challenging and she got some great pics of the climbing. As long as you take your time and feel each rock, you will be fine but it does take some planning each step. You dont want to fall. Once at the base of the pillars I was given a choice to proceed or not but the tide was pretty high and every time the waves came in they covered the base of the pillars. I decided not to proceed but it was still very fun! If you come here on your own try to time low tide for the best way to get on the pillars themselves. Rick made this journey much more enjoyable and if you are daring, not afraid of heights and like a challenge, you simply must do this! We are in our 50s and love exploring nature this way.
Today was an amazing hike with such beautiful views. Rick was an unbelievable tour guide and we really enjoyed our time.
Excellent hike up to the highest point on Antigua. The guide was great and provided really helpful tips and information. It was fun to find, smell and eat "stinking toe" ! The other guests on the trek were equally fun and enhanced the whole day. Great views from the top and a really good and well-marked trail to follow.
I had originally intended to hike Boggy Peak alone, but when I no longer had a rental car due a flight delay, I realized it was easier to book this 'tour' than to get a taxi to drop me off and then pick me up at the remote trailhead. Hiking with Trek Tours also came with the key to the gated area at the top of the mountain. Without it, you have to stop at the gate and not reach the top of the mountain. Rick was a great guide, giving me an overview of the island on the drive to the trailhead. He was very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna and was great to chat with as we hiked up and down the mountain. While the trail was not technical at all, it was great to have someone so friendly to hike with.
