Rum Making Masterclass Galleon Beach Antigua 2 People Per Station

Very informative and fun! Enjoyed making our own "mix" to create what we wanted in a Rum. The 2 people working and helping were very helpful and made it a great experience! Pay attention when booking on Viator if you book the 1 or 2 person trip. Ended up booking more than anticipated, but nice to get 2 bottles after all.

So torn on this one . The class was fun and informative. Truly enjoyed the 1 hour demo and making our own bottles. It was the transportation that killed this for us. Easily takes 45 mins to get there then another 45 back. Our real rub was that this company also offers a snorkeling excursion. The cab operator, to save money, lumped us in a cab with snorkeling people. When our rum class was over, we had to wait 1.25 hours to get a cab back. Pain in the neck and waste of vacation time. 4.5 hours of effort for 1 hour class. Had all this been communicated on the front end, had the beach restaurant been open, maybe I’d not have been upset.

We had an amazing time at the Academy of Rum! The rum tasting was so much fun, especially trying to guess the different ingredients and flavors. Learning about the rum-making process was really interesting, and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, answering all of our questions and making the experience both fun and informative. Our favorite part was getting to mix different flavors to create our own unique rum. Our guide was so helpful and gave us great advice to help us achieve the perfect tropical flavor. Getting to take home our own bottle was such a cool touch and made the experience even more memorable! I also highly recommend trying the lemongrass and ginger rum—it was absolutely delicious and our favorite! 🥃🌴 Overall, this was such a fun and unique experience, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys rum or wants to try something different during their trip!

This was a great experience and Jana was the best and so informative. I would definitely do it again, but don't drink before you get there.

Had a great time from start to finish. Would highly recommend if have a chance. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made the experience fun but also easy. Be prepared to DRINK LOTS OF RUM !!

A fun experience learning about rum making, the history, the uniqueness of rum making on the island and the ingredients and science that go into making rum. And then you get to make your own special blend and have a bottle to enjoy on the rest of your holiday!

The Academy of Rum was well worthwhile and a fantastic experience. Our host Jo was funny, knowledgeable and engaging and made our whole time enjoyable. We tasted a variety of rums and each left with our own 750ml creations each. Highly recommend as something to do whilst visiting Antigua.

This was one of the best experiences I’ve had in a long time. You get to taste a variety of their rums, the guide is very knowledgeable in history and sharing the process of how to make rum. Then you get to try different flavors to create your own unique rum. Make sure you think of a name for your rum though so you aren’t pressured on the spot! Such a fun experience. And you get to take home your creation to share back home.

Our group of 13 family members participated in Rum Making on June 25th! We were welcomed to the venue and assigned our seating location. Overall our experience was good. Our rum instructor was informative and helpful. However she was rushed due to another engagement. My husband and I truly enjoyed making our rum. We did not like that our assigned distiller was not working and the instructor had to adjust our alcohol levels twice. The worst part of the experience was we were given A PLASTIC BOTTLE instead of Glass TO store our Created rum! Plastic is NOT a good way to bottle any alcoholic drink due to the possibility of breaking down the plastic!! Definitely not worth what we paid!

Very fun experience. Engaging with excellent distillery expert. Nice to meet other guests and we got to bring home a souvenir.

This was such a fun outing! Our guide was knowledgeable, pleasant, and engaging. We encountered traffic on the way and she graciously waited to ensure that we had the full experience. The personalized bottle and certificate are perfect souvenirs. I definitely recommend this experience for Antigua visitors.

I had a wonderful and informative time making rum with the academy. I have the pleasure of having Jana as our guide and she made the process fun and seamless. I learned alot about the distilling and aging process and had so much fun trying the different rums. Definitely an experience I would repeat

Rum making on the beach! It was such an intimate, fun and unique experience from start to finish. Lana was absolutely fantastic — so knowledgeable, engaging and bubbly, she instantly made everyone feel relaxed and involved. The experience starts with tasting an array of their delicious flavoured rums, which is a great icebreaker and gets everyone sociable. They have some really delicious and unique flavours; all of them are made using local ingredients in small batches. For hardcore rum enthusiasts there is the classic aged or spiced and for those who like something a little less intense, their rum creams are to die for. Then comes the really fun part — experimenting with different flavour combinations to create your perfect rum. Once you’ve perfected your recipe, you mix it with their rum, pour it into your own bottle and design a personalised label. One of the best parts was finishing the bottle in true pirate style with a wax seal! Such a fun touch. We also loved receiving certificates at the end for completing the rum masterclass — another lovely detail that made the whole experience feel extra special. The prices are really reasonable; they offer a couples price for a single bottle between two as well as single prices. They also sell their rums in full size and minis that you can take back to enjoy or as gifts. This was truly a bespoke experience and definitely our favourite activity of the holiday. We actually booked it as a birthday present for my dad’s 60th, and it could not have been more perfect. A must-do if you’re visiting Antigua!

What a great way to spend a day on the island. Each couple made a bottle of rum flavored with any combination of homemade flavors. Ours is vanilla, coconut, mango with a hint of ginger. It was educational and fun. Highly recommend!!!

One of the most unique and fun experiences we had in Antigua was the rum-making class on the beach with Roman Economy! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was amazing — beautiful ocean views, warm island breeze, and such a fun energy all around. Antigua is already such a stunning country with some of the most beautiful beaches and scenery we’ve ever seen, and this experience fit perfectly into the island vibe. The instructors were fantastic. They were hilarious, engaging, and made the entire class feel interactive and entertaining from beginning to end. You could tell they were passionate about what they do and genuinely wanted everyone to have a great time. They explained the rum-making process in a way that was easy to understand while still making it fun and hands-on. We loved getting to create and taste different rum combinations right there on the beach while learning more about the island’s culture and history. It felt like such an authentic Antiguan experience instead of something overly touristy. The staff was incredibly helpful, attentive, and welcoming the entire time, and they made everyone feel comfortable and included. This ended up being one of the highlights of our entire trip. If you’re visiting Antigua and looking for something memorable, fun, and different to do, I highly recommend booking the Roman Economy rum-making class. It was the perfect combination of beautiful scenery, local culture, laughter, and great drinks!

Fantastic experience. Went with my partner on the 19th March.   Lana our Rum host/instructor was funny and informative and explained the process very well. ( I don’t want to give too much away as it might spoil the experience for others)   The mixture of shots to sample was an experience, and we both enjoyed varies different ones.  The making of the rum and trying different rums was a great enjoyment, were now back in the Uk and looking forward to sampling our bottles this weekend. Would definitely recommend.

Who would have thought that making your own Rum could be so much fun? Well, let's say starting with 6 shots of different kinds of Rum ...Yum!!! Our 2 instructors were kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. Both my husband and myself have created delicious flavours that were sealed with wax to take home with us. That's if we don't drink it all before our flight. Thank you for a super afternoon of fun!

Very fun and informative activity. We tasted and made our own custom bottle of rum to take home. I highly recommend. They are also directly across the beach from a beautiful beach, so make a day of it. If you go on Thursday, end the afternoon at the party at Shirley Heights, which is just up the road. :)

We booked this excursion via our hotel and it was one of our favourite trips during our stay. I can’t remember the name of the girl who ran the class but she was a young English girl and was very confident and knowledgeable on the rum making process and the different types of rum. It was great to be able to try the different flavours of rum and then decide what flavours you wanted to use for your own rum. It was also a nice touch to get our own personalised label for the bottle. Would definitely recommend this to any rum lovers.

A really fun 90 mins in the capable hands of Nelly and crew..... we've done a number of rum tasting tours throughout the Caribbean, but being able to create your own bottle of rum as well as the rum tasting made it unique and memorable ..... definitely recommend 👍🏼

We had a great time, we learnt about how rum is made and also had to taste the rum they produced. Had a chance to be able to make and take home your own rum. The guys were very informative and helpful in every way. Totally different experience, so much fun.

Had an absolute blast with Nell at the Academy. Nell explained the process and it was really interesting! The tasting was fun and left a few of the people a little wobbly! Lol! Mixing the ingredients was, well, tasty and we were very happy with our concoction which we named Yum Yum Rum Rum! Price was reasonable and Nell was a great teacher and funny critic! Thank you.

Masterclass is right. Your introduction to rum making is firmly practical and you will be drinking plenty in your education from novice to distiller. The staff are awesome and funny, the rum flows very freely and you leave with a bespoke momento. A momento which you will need as you float out of there way more than three sheets to the wind. Amazing, highly recommended for any visitor to Antigua.

Absolutely loved this experience! It was so much fun and Jo really was a great host. We made two bottles which was perfect. One to consume on the trip and one bottle of rum to take home!

The staff was so accommodating since we were a little late due to island time, haha! They were so friendly and fun and we learned so much about the history of rum making and the island. Tip: do eat before you go. You will be drinking a lot of rum in the process!

It was nice experience! Made a lively spice rum with Star Anise, Almond and one of them recommended that I use vanilla as well! It tastes good.

This was an awesome, if not entertaining, experience! If you come to Antigua, you need to be here. You hear me?... You NEED to be here! We had a, um, "loaded" class. (Yeah, you can take that both ways! LOL) Seriously, every seat was filled and we all had a great time together. The process and instruction goes by very fast and it is intense at times, yet the instructor makes it understandable all along the way. Let's be clear: you are making your very own bottle of flavored rum. You'll be using a hydrometer to determine the The biggest challenge is understanding and interpreting your own taste-buds. There are a dozen or more of flavor inclusions - coconut, banana, cinnamon, all spice, vanilla, etc - and it might help to begin challenging your nose and tongue on various flavors before coming here. Train 'em up, in other words. Other than that, sit down and enjoy the 2-hour experience. It will fly by. Indeed, it is good money spent.

This was really fun!!! I loved the history lesson and tasting the rum flavors while making our own. The time flew by!! If you like rum and would like to drink while make your own—nothing beats this experience!!

The process of adding the flavors to the rum was easy but would have liked a little better direction on pairings. It was difficult to determine if the overall combinations would work but it was cool to be able to create a label with our own unique name. The wax sealed top was also a nice touch. The one of team member's that was there the day of our event could have been a little more helpful. My husband was interested in a shirt and she just seemed very disinterested in interacting with any of the groups once we had finished up so he didn’t buy one. Overall, I would recommend because of the fun process of coming up with the name, mixing flavors and of course getting to sample several of the different Rums available.

What I loved most about this class was the chance to actually make my own rum. Getting to choose the ingredients, learn the process, and bottle something I crafted myself was incredible. Our instructor was knowledgeable and made the class so much fun. It’s such a unique experience, and I’d absolutely do it again.

Fab experience. Had a car so drove as near to hotel, they have some onsite parking🙂 Was expecting to collaborate on making a shared bottle with partner but surprisingly it was a bottle each. Lots of tasting lots of fun!

Really informative and inclusive session, highly recommend it to take home a fabulous hand made treasure from your holiday! the road down to the bay is steep, windy and nasty potholes on couple of bends so watch that if your in a rental.

This was such a fun experience. The ladies who led our group were funny and full of knowledge about the process. My husband and I made 2 completely different flavors of rum. It makes for a nice way to remember our trip once home. Be sure to eat before you come - you will try lots of rum while there :)
