The guide seemed to think he was leading a swimming endurance event. Went away from the reef about 1/4 mile reasons none of us could fathom. Then turned toward the reef and went another ~1/4 mile before finally reaching the reef. Got only about 15 minutes over the reef then headed back to the boat. Have no idea why he didn’t just take us directly instead of wasting our time and energy. We recommend avoiding this tour.

My husband and I have booked numerous snorkeling tours; this was by far the absolute worst that we've experienced and an incredible disappointment on our recent vacation to beautiful Antigua. At the onset of entering the water, the tour operator jokingly (we thought) told us that an afternoon work-out session wouldn't be necessary after this adventure. The swimming required for this excursion was unprecedented and was in no way a relaxing snorkeling experience. We swam an incredible distance and were constantly being told to keep up (we had a FAIRLY inexperienced swimmer in our group that we stayed with); once all the huge group was together, we all resumed swimming only to get kicked due to the cohesiveness of the very large group of swimmers, which also contributed to seeing next to nothing in the water. This excursion was incredibly poorly executed and was a huge disappointment (especially to our two family members on their very first snorkel experience). Looking back at the description, the excursion is not recommended for the physically challenged or pregnant individuals; there is absolutely no mention that swimming a great distance is going to be involved or that strong swimming skills are recommended.
Our experience on this excursion was a blend of beautiful scenery, and some major disappointments. To start with the positives - the crew were pleasant and professional. They did their jobs well and kept things moving. The boat facilities were solid and the drinks were plentiful. The scenery on this excursion was absolutely the standout. The island views were stunning from start to finish, and cruising the coastline was easily the best part of the entire day. My husband and I are not “booze cruise” people, and we really appreciated that this wasn’t one. The music had a relaxed Caribbean vibe, not blasting club tracks, and the crew didn’t pressure anyone to dance or join a party atmosphere. We were free to simply enjoy the scenery, which we genuinely valued. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience fell short. The biggest problem was the overcrowding. The boat was packed to the point where the passengers were crammed elbow to elbow on benches and many were stuck in full sun with no shade (including us). For a tour of this length, the crowding made the experience uncomfortable and at times stressful. The snorkeling portion was extremely disappointing. As experienced snorkelers, being forced into a huge group of around 50 people all swimming together was chaotic and frustrating. We were constantly getting kicked, bumped, and pushed around, and the churned‑up water made visibility poor. We wanted to snorkel independently but were made to feel like that wasn’t allowed—only to later see other guests snorkeling freely with their own gear. The mixed communication and poor organization was incredibly frustrating. The reef itself was underwhelming, with sparse marine life and a rushed pace that made the whole thing feel more like a swim drill than a relaxing exploration. Lunch was just okay but I didn't really have high expectations given the amount of people that the crew hadd to serve. In the end, while the scenery was incredible and the vibe was pleasantly relaxed, the overcrowding and poorly managed snorkel made this excursion fall far below expectations. We would not do this trip again.
WE booked this while we stayed at Sandals Antigua; this tour is not to be missed. If you are prone to sea sickness, this might not be for you. There are rough seas across the Atlantic, which you are warned and you will get wet. When the boat stops for 2 hrs at Green Island to snorkel/swim/beach/ onboard lunch--it is all amazing and food was great (fish, chicken, rice, pasta salad, tossed salad). The crew was friendly. We had a good visit with Wayne, the photographer, who sold us our photos of the tour. The caribbean sailing was smooth on the return and enjoyed the views. Great way to see the island by water!
We booked this 360 Catamaran cruise and what a fantastic trip! The 20 minutes across the Atlantic was like a roller coaster - great fun! We stopped at Green Island for snorkling or just a sit on the beach with beer or Rum Punch and an amazing lunch! Tunes were blasting out, we had a great time! The waters were crystal clear fish would swim past your feet. The crew were amazing, it was a fantastic trip and one I highly recommend. 10/10
This boat had about 120 people. When you take this boat there is a section of really rough water for about 20 minutes. The crew warns you that the front of the boat will get wet and tossed around. There was nowhere else to go as the boat was so crowded that all seats were taken inside and at the rear of the boat. About 10 people had to stand up at the bar and just hold on! People were screaming and yelling as several people fell. Many people got completely soaked. I had to sit on the stairs to the top floor( no other seats) the crew was running around helping people who were wet and falling. The pint of this cruise is to tour the entire island, if so they need to make sure that all occupants are safe. I did not feel safe, nor did my husband who has a bad knee, and had to stand up gripping the bar for safety for 20 minutes. After this harrowing 20 minutes, we could go back to our railing at the front of the boat, but even this area was a 10 plastic lip that we sat on and held on to the railing. This boat design is not conducive for this type of trip. If you are not first on this boat then you will not get a seat. We were the last group picked up from Sandals resort.
We enjoyed the second half of the sightseeing tour around the island. We we were not informed nor cautioned that the beginning of our journey would be out on the rough Atlantic. Take your Dramamine. The waves were rough. People were screaming and some ( myself included) were experiencing slight motion sickness). The snorkel part was extremely frustrating and disappointing. There were so many people on our trip (120+) that we were hitting other snorkelers, being kicked by other flippers and the water was churned from so much kicking and splashing. We were shocked that our snorkel guides only gave safety instruction when we were all assembled in the shallow water; not on the boat. Some folks had never snorkeled. Some didn’t even know how to swim! We didn’t finish the snorkel tour. We returned back to the boat. It wasn’t worth the energy we exerted Lunch was ok. But meager. We skipped the strong rum punch as we were concerned about rough waters. The second half of the journey was more calm as we sailed back on the Caribbean side. The views were lovely. We wouldn’t do this trip again.
seeing the island from the water was great. The boat was smooth except for the Atlantic side which he told us about. Saw Eric Clapton's house. Didn't snorkel but watched the others as we sat on the beach relaxing. The food was good, just enough. They told us about all the beaches around the island. Would recommend to anyone that wants to see the island from the water. Antigua was having a regatta the same week we were there and we stopped and watched all the sail boats. Have never seen that in person so that just added to the experience.
We had a great day circling the beautiful island. Once being picked up at Sandals we headed out and the Captain advised it may get choppy. With the boat not being very full, this allowed people of the bow to move inside. We are boating people, so we stayed on the bow with a few others. We had a blast sitting up front crashing waves and getting soaked. Pack a dry bag if you have one. I would recommend moving inside if you can if you do not want to get wet or a wild ride. We arrived at the beach and decided to hang out and have cocktails rather than snorkel. Lunch was good, and ran into a little more chop on the South East side. Once we got to the South side it was smooth sailing with beautiful views. Wayne was onboard taking photos and we purchased his photo package which included all the photos he took of us, and ones around the island.
Transport from resort to port at St John's was included, which was preferred to picking up at beach (got full 360 of island). Ride was fun, although hard to hear audio descriptions to various points of interest (we were sitting right on bow). Music was great and a fun atmosphere. Snorkeling equipment was sanitized in bleach and fit well. Snorkeling provided belt float which really helped. There was alot of swimming involved. Saw a couple turtles and small fish. Shoreline of island is beautiful and rugged in many places. Run into English Harbor to see yachts was interesting too. Lunch and drinks were good. Overall pleased with trip and felt it was worth the price.
The views were amazing and the staff were very kind and friendly! I ended up getting sea sick and the staff really took care of me. The food was top notch as well! Shout outs to Ray for bringing me a conch shell since I wasn't feeling well enough to go snorkeling!
Easy pick up at Sandals. The crew were nice. The day was beautiful. It was difficult to hear the explanations of the locations were passing but the treat of riding around the island was so good. Our first order of business was pulling into a cove to snorkel. It wasn't the most amazing snorkel but at the outset we saw two sea turtles which were beautiful. We also spotted a large sting ray! It was a shallow reef with some neat fish but not in high quantity. The lunch was fine. My husband has celiac so there wasn't much for him despite the grill master saying he could eat the chicken. He didn't know that soy sauce is a no-go. The rum punch- heavy in punch and light on the rum- was tasty and they had plenty of water. We chose this to be on a boat around the island so we were happy.
Sadly this tour was below expectations. It was a large boat, with roughly 70+ guests and was far too busy to be comfortable. We couldn’t actually find anywhere to sit as the boat powered out to the snorkel destination. Took about an hour, which was too long on the hard deck of a boat. Very very glad I didn’t bring the kids with me or I would have needed to take some action. We moored up on a tiny beach, which wasn’t particularly nice, nothing compared to the Sandals resort beach. The snorkelling was frankly a bit of a joke. We seemed to swim a large distance to see a very basic looking reef and zero wildlife. Snorkelling can be hit and miss, but compared to Barbados last year where were treated to a ship wreck and tonnes and beautiful fish, this was just sparse. It was also a major rush for some reason with everyone being encouraged SWIM FASTER. Just for context, I’m 45 and a very strong swimmer, so it wasn’t the strain, it just made for an awful experience. I’m holiday, I want to just float around taking in the sights. Not swimming 2km with 50 people to see nothing 😂. Once back on board we were served a basic lunch of chicken or fish and rice. Again. If you’re at a 5* resort this will feel like a serious downgrade. The remainder of the ‘tour’ was a boat ride completing a full circle of the island via English Harbour and back. Again, we had nowhere to seat, so it was just a hot, uncomfortable rather mooring boat ride. I would definitely recommend doing a private tour….IF you’re bothered. There really isn’t much to see tbh. It’s a tiny island.
Brilliant weather, got to see the whole island, nice boat and staff, great food, drink, snorkelling, giving us info about places as we travelled around, easy pick up and drop off, full day sightseeing, feeding the birds that kept up with the boat, very nice experience, and would defiantly do this again if I every returned to Antigua. worth the money 365 beeches seen, each one better than the previous.
A great day out the crew were fantastic looking after all,it did get a bit choppy for a stage but they ensured safety was the priority, the snorkelling lunch and drinks (plenty) made for a great holiday highlight
Booked this cruise while staying at Sandals and it definitely was not anything that was advertised. The boat arrived at Sandals already crowded. No one wore a mask the entirety of the cruise. We and other passengers had no place to sit and were left to stand during the duration of the cruise. Along the way we experienced some rough water but the speed of the boat wasn’t decreased to ensure safety of the passengers. Some people became ill and started vomiting. The music started off nice but quickly changed and the boat became a party boat. Younger folks began twirling in skimpy bikinis. We were very disappointed that this turned out as it did. We could not enjoy the sights due to the over booking of passengers with people standing everywhere, loud music. During the trip back the tour guide announced that they wanted people to write a review if they enjoyed themselves but if not “ You keep that to yourselves”. They didn’t seem to care who was on the boat when making this inappropriate statement. For the amount of money that was spent, this was disappointing and not worth the cost. I do not recommend this to anyone unless you are under 25 years old. Sandals should not sponsor this cruise under their brand.
Very organised, men looked smart running the boat. Very professional at all times. Great day out, food fabulous and good drinks service. Places of interest were pointed out on the shore. Staff helped you off and on the boat. Would highly recommend this if you want a boat trip with good amenities and a stop on a smashing beach
My wife and I booked this trip while staying at the Sandals resort (very nice!). The snorkeling excursion was more of a “work out” than seeing any fish or sea life. The unorganized long line to get fitted for gear, large group very crowded, and very long swim ended with nothing or very little to see/experience in the ocean. Additionally, our boat pulled in to the cove at the same time another boat pulled in causing even more chaos. I will say the boat crew (Theo) was extraordinary and made it memorable. Other boat tours may be a better option, resulting in a low score. We have traveled the Caribbean many times on several snorkeling tours this was by far the worst.
This tour was a great way to see Antigua by sea. It was a relaxing day - the boat was full, but not overcrowded and the drinks were flowing. The crew aboard the Excellence were great! The announcer was great at drawing attention to the sights and made sure to tell us when it was best to stay seated because of the choppiness of the water. When we got to the island, there was a designated beach just for us, and plenty of time to enjoy the water or snorkel and have lunch. You didn’t even have to return to the boat to get a drink; they made sure to come and take your orders as many times as we liked. My one comment - when we read the itinerary it sounded like we would stop at English Harbour and disembark to go see the sights, which isn’t what happened. Instead we pulled in to the harbour then pulled out after a minute and continued back to the port. Enjoyed it! I would recommend for anyone who wants to relax and see the beautiful natural views of Antigua.
The captain and crew were friendly and delightful. The cruise was approximately 6 hours, which included, snorkeling, food, and drinks. We also visited two beaches and had time to enjoy the the water.
I'd recommend the 360 tour for anyone looking to get off the resort for half a day. Views were excellent, boat and staff were very nice and the food onboard was excellent. Would highly recommend.
I enjoyed the overall experience, however the boat was crowded and seats were limited. The volume from the music didn’t allow me to hear about the beautiful sights
Our family had the best time in Antigua. The catamaran is huge the staff is so nice and accommodating. They ensured we had everything we would need or want for the day. The day started with beautiful weather and enjoyable cruise to Green island. The ride was wonderful, it started out in calm aqua waters, but we crossed the deep blue where the waves were bigger and provided some laughs as they toppled over the front of the boat. Once at the destination a snorkel trip awaited. It is an escorted trip over the reef, my husband was a bit disappointed as he is experienced and like to go out on his own. But the water was beautiful and the guide was awesome, I even held a white sea urchin. Back to the boat for a full lunch of chicken, fish, rice & beans, and salad. With plenty to eat there was still free time to swim or rest and listen to the music. The way back was just as pleasant as the rum punch and captain's special was served all around. The Captain would narrate as the boat tour circled the entire island and as we passed the many sites and beaches. The only thing that I would say negative about the day, was that the music was a bit too loud on the return and left it hard to hear my family talk.
Scenic tour of Antigua. Our guide pointed out the historic sites and homes of the rich and famous as we cruised around the island. Had a great time snorkeling followed by a wonderful lunch. The guides were safety conscious and made sure everybody was good the whole time. They even had a row boat in case anyone got tired and needed a tow back to the boat. Highly recommend this tour. Thanks for a fantastic day.
The boat is called the "Excellence". We have done 4 day trips, 3 around Antigua and one to Barbuda. You are picked up on the beach in front of the hotel (Sandals in our case) around 9:30 am, and returned there in the mid to late afternoon. The boat carries about 120 people, and is powered by twin diesels, about 600 hp each. Lunch is always included, and the bar is open throughout the day. It is a great way to see the island.
The crew is super nice! The beautiful scenery throughout the cruise and the bbq chicken and fish meal accompanied by salad is very tasty. Small diving getaway included to go see the corals in the sea before the meal. Highly recommended activity it is worth the price
You must have made this trip. For the eyes a dream, the beautiful islands and beaches. Margins are also provided, it is grilled on board.
