Despite coming across some bad reviews, the two of us decided to take the tour for ourselves and form our own opinion. We’re glad we did! This was not our first time doing a speed buggy tour, but it was our first experience with 268 Buggies. Our group was small—just the two of us—which made the experience feel more personal. The tour guide took us through some beautiful areas with amazing views, and there were plenty of exciting bumps along the way that made for a fun and adventurous ride. I personally would have loved to experience a little more mud and water, as that’s always part of the excitement for me, but overall we had a great time. We also enjoyed the stop at the beach. Our guide took the time to engage us in conversation, which added a nice personal touch to the experience and made us feel welcomed. Overall, we’re happy we didn’t let the negative reviews make the decision for us. Everyone’s experience is different, and sometimes you just have to go and experience it for yourself. We definitely enjoyed ourselves and are glad we gave 268 Buggies a try. Definitely would recommend

I have been fortunate enough to do buggy and ATV tours in many countries and islands, and unfortunately this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. My biggest concern is safety. Although there was an electronic safety briefing, the buggy we were given had no seat belts. Considering the price of this excursion, I would also expect basic protective equipment such as goggles and face coverings to be provided. Thankfully, I always bring my own. The helmet I was given was extremely unhygienic—it had a strong smell, and the straps caused my face to itch and break out in a rash. My friend and I were at the back of the convoy, directly behind a buggy that was producing heavy exhaust fumes. The guide was aware of the issue. Around 10 minutes into the ride, I developed a severe headache and started feeling dizzy. At first, I thought it was because of the rough terrain, but my symptoms quickly worsened. My chest became tight, I developed intense lower abdominal cramps, and I began feeling extremely unwell. My friend repeatedly tried to get the attention of the guides at the front, but they didn't notice. Eventually, we had to stop because I started vomiting and urgently needed a bathroom. As a healthcare professional, I knew my body was reacting to something serious. When the guide finally realized we had stopped, he returned but didn't ask if I was okay or what had happened. He simply expected us to continue. About five minutes later, we stopped at the beach, where I immediately got out of the buggy and explained that the exhaust fumes were making me sick and that I urgently needed a restroom. Instead of offering assistance, the guide dismissively gestured for me to use the bushes. By this point, I felt like I was going to pass out. I went into the water hoping it would help, but the abdominal cramps continued in waves. I told my friend to inform the guide that I could not continue the tour. Throughout this entire ordeal, no one checked on my wellbeing or showed any genuine concern. The guide eventually left to get a vehicle to take us back, which felt like it took forever. During this time, I also noticed that one of the other buggies appeared to have a wheel coming loose, raising even more concerns about the maintenance and safety of the vehicles. Only after returning to the base did the guide ask if I was feeling better. By the time I got back to my hotel, my condition had deteriorated significantly. I began bleeding from my mouth and anus and was rushed to the hospital. After medical assessment, it was determined that my symptoms were consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning caused by prolonged exposure to the exhaust fumes from the buggy in front of us. This experience was frightening and completely unacceptable. Mechanical issues should never be ignored, especially when they put customers' health and safety at risk. The lack of concern shown by the staff while I was clearly in distress was deeply disappointing. I would strongly urge this company to improve its vehicle maintenance, provide proper safety equipment, and train its staff to respond appropriately to medical emergencies. I cannot recommend this tour to anyone.
Pulled up and half the dune buggy’s were broken apart. Excursion had to be pushed back because they weren’t fixed and they had to do repairs. Your guide was rude. Had us in the middle of traffic and one of my cousins almost got hit by a car. Worst dune buggy experience I’ve ever had at any country I have visited:
We had an amazing time on the Antigua Mud Buggy Adventure with Beach Stop! From start to finish, the experience was exciting, well-organized, and full of beautiful scenery. Driving the mud buggy through Antigua was such a fun and unique way to explore the island, and the beach stop was the perfect way to relax and cool off afterward. A special thank you to Joel, our tour guide, for making this experience unforgettable. He was friendly, knowledgeable, energetic, and made sure everyone felt safe while having an incredible time. His passion for Antigua really showed, and he shared interesting facts about the island throughout the tour. If you’re visiting Antigua and looking for an adventure that’s equal parts thrill, sightseeing, and fun, I highly recommend this excursion. It’s definitely one of the highlights of our trip! 🌴🏖️🚙💨
Great overall experience will do again
Overall the activity it was a good experience to take part of. The downfall for the overall rating of the experience was the poor customer service that was received. The tour guide had a very nasty attitude from the initial introduction to the last interaction between everyone encountered in my group of 4 people. There wasn’t a welcoming atmosphere to ask any questions or concerns. While filling out the waiver the tour guide was ignoring all questions ask, constantly sucking his teeth at us, walking away mid conversation and he slammed the clip board in our faces when we missed filling out apart of the waiver and walked away without saying anything. There was recording played that listed all the safety equipment that was supposed to be provided which was never provided or available for use, such as goggles, gloves, seatbelts or helmets. The vehicles were poorly maintained one had a string holding the battery together. Two other vehicles broke down and one broke down twice and was left behind to be rescued. Was even told to be careful while driving because the steering wheel can fall off. We were not allowed to switch drivers or told to bring our own safety equipment. Overall not worth the $135 US Dollars per person due to lack of customer service and lack of safety equipment. False advertisement would not recommend.
Had a great time driving quads around the hills and roads. While it was limited on mud, there hasn't been a lot of rain here, it was still a blast. Had the opportunity to switch drivers and stop at beautiful beach. Recommend bandana or Gatorade for your face, the dust is wicked.
What a fun adventure. The crew was super friendly and accommodating! No frills, check in, safety briefing and get on the trail. Don’t forget your photo id/license! All different terrain! Dusty-muddy fun!
First I want to start off by saying I am not bashing this company and I am not doing this review to stop others from booking. I am simply sharing my experience and giving feedback to the company. In the beginning of the trail, I did end up hitting a tree while turning. Once they got us out and saw the vehicle was fine they did not allow me to drive anymore. I had to continue the trail with the guide driver. This took away my experience and didn’t allow me to enjoy what was happening. Although a drivers license is needed, the company should take into consideration that a buggy is very different from a regular car. Just because you have a drivers license does not mean you can drive every vehicle known to man. If they are concerned about their vehicles being damaged, they should pick a trail that would beginner friendly for those who never drove a buggy before or have buggy’s that are inexpensive to fix. I didn’t pay all this money to be a “passenger princess”. There are other companies that when you crash they get you out and let you continue to drive the rest the way. This was my first time ever crashing and that was my first time driving a buggy. People make mistakes but that shouldn’t make you take their experience away. This did not discourage me to not drive a buggy ever again. I will definitely do it again but just not with this company. The views were definitely 10/10 by the way.
This was the most fun we had on our cruise stop in Antigua. Start to finish, very professional and friendly tour operators. We rode approx. 20 miles in the back country through fields with cows and mud trails. Stopped at a beautiful beach for great photos. Would recommend highly. We are in our 70s and still love a great adventure! Did not disappoint!
Hour long ride that ends with a view of the beach
This experience was absolutely wonderful! The guides were outstanding and knowledgeable of the area (shout out to Sadie who had nerves of steel riding with me). It had not rained in a while, so the trail was VERY dusty. Be sure to bring face coverings. The buggies were in great condition and most of the journey is through the countryside down to the beach. Be prepared to drive through areas of town that have more litter and debris than you would prefer. This is beyond the company’s control as there are no other viable options but going through certain parts of town to reach points of interest.
This is a fantastic way to see Antigua! I'm sure there are several other trails and sojourns throughout the tiny island nation, but the mud buggy adventure gets you through it in unique style. This is a beefed-up, left-hand drive go-cart with full roll cage that seats two people. It has a simple accelerator pedal and brake; just know that it is NOT power steering. Obviously, the driver has the steering wheel, yet the passenger has a stout steel roll bar in front of the seat to hang on. And trust me: it is needed! I suppose the "mud" aspect depends on the rainy season, but I didn't encounter any... but wife did! Just a bit, though. We drove through sedate country roads with various houses and ranchlands with cattle and goats. At one point, our lead driver, Joel, slowed down to allow/encourage a herd of sheep to clear off the road. It was rather bucolic, a sort of "one with nature" moment. The steering in the buggy is a bit delayed - it is not a sports car! - so you need to learn how to anticipate the turns ahead as you follow the lead driver. Also, you may want to bring along a handkerchief or face covering as it will get dusty along the way. (Don't ask me how I know that! LOL) We ended up (I think) at Sea Fort Beach, a secluded spot with a magnificent view of Monserrat, which is 25 miles away, clear as a bell. It conjures thoughts of what it must have been like some 30 years ago when Montserrat's Soufrière Hills volcano blew... and to have front row seating of Mother Nature's power from this very beach. Wow! The awesomeness of nature awaits all throughout this fantastic excursion. When you go to Antigua, don't miss the opportunity... you won't regret it!
Oh my gosh, this was so much fun! It was so fun to go through the countryside and driving. The ATVs was a blast. You will get a little dirty! But completely worth it.
IT wasn’t SO BAD HOWEVER, JOEL, the owner I’m assuming; scared everyone about damaging the vehicles and how insanely costly it would be- for example $900 USD for a replacement tire (rolls eyes) lets be realistic. That immediately took the fun out of it. In the 14 years they have been doing this there have only been six incidents. How ironic was it that one of the other vehicles ended up breaking down, but it wasn’t even the fault of the driver. In my opinion, it could’ve been a little bit more fun and laid-back. Also, it is advertised as buggy, but instead they give you a UTV to ride. If you book outside of Viator, they ask you for your credit card when you arrive- “for verification purposes”. Antigua is beautiful and the beaches are all amazing- so don’t let this discourage you.
This was our first trip to Antigua and we wanted to do something fun. There hadn't been much rain before our event, so we thought it might end up being a "dust buggy" experience. Everything worked well with the pre-booking, but due to lack of steady internet access we utilized guest services at our resort to assist us with the pick-up time confirmation. The transportation was on time and it took about 45 minutes to reach the location. Just after we arrived, the skies opened up and once the rain stopped we were ready to go. Putting safety first, we were fitted with helmets and given a presentation on dos and don'ts and strapped into a safety harness inside the buggy. The steering wheel is on the left side and the buggy is open to the elements, so wear closed toe shoes and clothes you won't mind getting muddy. Bring a waterproof fanny pack for any personal items as there is no place to store them. Sunglasses and a neck gaitor are necessary to keep dust and mud off your face! The steering wheel may be a little stiff at times, but a little muscle helps. The buggies are made for two people, a guide leads the group and another will follow behind. Your route will take you on backroads, through fields, to a beach and on regular roadways. Our ride was filled with laughter every time we got muddy and it was worth every penny! Our transport home was so accommodating, he even lined the seats with garbage bags so we wouldn't ruin the upholstery. I would recommend this tour for the friendliness of the staff and guides, their safety precautions and the route we took. Thanks again for a great time!
One of the buggy’s died at the start of the experience so we ended up not being able to finish the ride and had to request a refund. The little bit of the ride we were able to do was fun and exciting. We just couldn’t finish.
We just got back from the buggy tour and honestly, I wish we never went. What was advertised as a thrilling, muddy adventure ended up being one of the most unprofessional, unsafe, and disappointing experiences of our trip. To start, the tour was led by a group of very young guides — none of them looked older than 20 — and their inexperience was clear from the start. Their own buggy broke down six separate times throughout the tour, leaving everyone stopped on the side of the path over and over again with no explanation or communication. They didn’t tell us what was going on, didn’t apologize, and just kept trying to fix the vehicle until it worked again — then sped off ahead without saying a word. They claimed they’d be checking behind them every few seconds to make sure everyone was okay, but that never happened. They were often completely out of sight, and we were left on our own navigating rough, rocky, uneven terrain. I tried waving them down multiple times when we were struggling, and they completely ignored us. There were several moments where I genuinely thought we were going to flip over. The buggy felt unstable and unsafe the entire time. We were so shaken up that we ended up skipping the beach stop and left the rest of the tour early because we simply didn’t feel safe continuing. On top of the safety issues, the tour was incredibly misleading. It was advertised as a muddy adventure, but there was absolutely no mud — just dusty dirt roads. Even if it hadn’t rained, calling this a “mud tour” is blatantly false advertising. We didn’t drive through any fun areas, no puddles, nothing that even resembled mud. They also promised water or soda — we received none. Not a single refreshment, despite being out in the heat for hours. The website never mentioned goggles either, but they handed us a pair last minute (which we definitely needed). That should’ve been listed as a requirement in advance. Worst of all, there were no real stops or landmarks shown. The guides didn’t take the time to explain anything or show us any scenery or history. It felt like we were just aimlessly driving around in a beat-up, unsafe vehicle for no reason. There was no adventure, no immersion — just a bumpy, confusing, and poorly run ride. Overall, this was a careless, unsafe, and completely pointless experience. False advertising, unqualified guides, no communication, and nothing memorable about it except how relieved we were to be done. Save your time, money, and energy — and book literally anything else.
We had had an amazing time. Our guides Made sure we all new what we were doing, we were safe, hydrated, and stayed together as a group. No buggy left behind. We had a great see St Mary's Parish, a little stop and dip at the beach, some dirt, but a lot of fun. Check them out for a fun tour when vacationing in Antigua! We enjoyed it!
Justin was an amazing tour guide! He was extremely polite and gave us insight to the great landmarks of Antigua. Be prepared to get messy on this excursion and especially if it rained recently! Definitely a 10/10 experience and I highly recommend Justin to everyone!
The tour was great. He guy was very friendly and took us to see a really nice beach. The only negative was that the ATVs were old and slow. I would only recommend this if you want to drive slow.
Was definitely a fun experience!! Everyone was very friendly, fun, funny and great to be around! From the check in experience to the tour!
The tour guides were awesome and very friendly. The experience itself is a lot of fun but would be much better if they took a different route. We drove through cow pastures so it’s not just mud you get on you! A good part of the ride is on the streets and is not for the faint of heart. We also went through an area that had a lot of garbage on the side of the road. We did stop at a beautiful beach but our time there was limited because of equipment malfunctions. This would be an awesome experience if they carved out a more scenic safer trail. Not worth the cost in our opinion.
Your need a face scarf and ideally eye protection.Great fun and you get to see some of the lush terrain.Highly recommended.Be peeps to get muddy and dusty.Hint in the name.
Overall, once we got moving the tour was good! We started a bit late and it seemed like our beach time was cut short because of that. You will get muddy, so plan on wearing clothes and shoes you do not care about. Everything you bring will get muddy, bags included.
We had a blast! Prepare to get dirty and bring a waterproof bag. The buggies were fun and the trails were awesome. Our guides did a great job too! I highly recommend it! Six of us went. We are in our sixties. Don’t forget your drivers license if you plan on driving.
Contact before booking about distance and cost from your hotel. Know who to call for transportation hotel may cost more.
This is an action adventure with great fun. The guides were so helpful, nice, accommodating, and fun. Would recommend if you want to have some fun and get messy.
Our driver was wonderfully friendly and shared so much great information! The excursion was fantastic, with a skilled team and top-notch equipment. We loved the scenic route, and the beach was the perfect finishing touch! A must-do experience in Antigua!
This would’ve been great if we didn’t constantly have to stop due to buggies losing their charge. Expected to encounter more mud puddles. When booking this excursion please make sure to bring goggles. Sunglasses will not help. My eyes have been irritated from dust and dirt. The company should stress how imperative this. Difficult driving with debris in your eyes.
Bring goggles or sport glasses, and a bandanna or buff. If you want a great adventure, aim for all the puddles. We thought it was great. if you plan on going fast, make sure you’re upfront. Near the end, they take you to a really nice beach to wash up, very enjoyable.
It was great fun and I can highly recommend it. See the island from a different perspective and the highlight is a beautiful beach.
Amazing experience very professional team. Nice offroad trail they have. Drives through city n beach
Views through the back country were awesome. Cattle, bulls running around. The views at our ‘private’ beach spot were spectacular. Very fun riding in the buggie getting muddy and all. The only down side was that the contract you have to sign is pretty nerve racking. You are responsible for damaging a tire on this very rough terrain ($900) or any damage to the vehicle whether or not it is due to their negligence ($1,000). But…. We signed it anyway and had a great time. Oh, and bring minimal belongs because there is no room on the buggie to store it.
Booked “Buggy Adventure “ through NCL cruise. Driver from port to excursion was awesome, private clean car and was super friendly. The buggies we drove looked brand new, and shiny… but not for long. It had been raining so the trail was so much fun / wet. Stopped at a nice beach , wife drive second half and loved it.
!!AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! I've done UTV/ATV/Buggies in 8 different countries and never gotten this muddy . 1. Visited in December 2024 on a honeymoon trip. 2. Roundtrip fare was not included in the price, but the 268 team arranged transportation from Sandals for an additional charge. EASY!! 3. Tour guides Joel and Justin were great and communication with Joel when booking was concise and easily understandable.
If you’ve never done mud buggy ATV before- make sure you don’t go solo because it can get rough. I went solo(which was ok by me) but it’s a long story.
We had so much fun the staff was really friendly and fun people. They took us through the trails and the mud and came to a beautiful water side view where they gave us drinks and we talked for a few and took pictures. Amazing time.
I would've given a higher review but our driver did not explain the areas where we drove through or any history. When we got to the beach, again no information no history. Just a "You have 10 mins" and went and talked to someone he knew. Loved the experience itself but the driver was lacking. The driver who picked us and dropped us off was great and very knowledgeable. Gave us great places to go eat in the city and provided us history about Antigua.
My group of 6 were unable to complete this excursion although we were what we thought was prepared. Nobody in our group had requested drivers license therefore were not allowed to complete thus excursion. We are in the process of requesting a full refund because this vital requirement was not stated and this excursion was prebooked.
Overall had a great time getting muddy and driving through the backroads (and sometimes main streets) of Antigua. Great activity for a family with young adult children. Equipment is likely very challenging to maintain, so our tour did experience some mechanical issues (2 buggies broke down but both issues were accommodated with the guests), but it did cost our tour the time at the beach, which was cut short. But had a great time otherwise and a great option outside the beautiful water of Antigua.
This was a very fun experience riding through the woods, sand beach, and muddy terrain through countryside with lots of cattle. You get the full experience of off roading and then at the end you go to hermitage beach for a beautiful view and dip in the water to wash away the debris from the UTV. You then jump back onto the buggy and blast off into the forest to return back. This was so much fun for our group!
We had a great time, however our driver maybe spoke ten words to us the entire time. He did not offer to take pictures but rather we and the other two guests exchanged taking photos of each other. The driver didn’t give any information about the beach we stopped at, no history or information about the people or the area; nothing. He was support to tell us when to drop into 4 x 4; Nope. Just follow the leader. The most he said to us was “There is water if you want it” kind of thing. We almost didn’t tip. The driver who picked us up at the hotel, Devin (?) was great! On the way back he took us through St John’s and discussed the history and the culture of the people. He was worth the extra pick up fee.
Staff and pick-up/drop-off driver were friendly, everything was running on time. If you want to drive, take your license. Make sure you take cash or credit card to pay extra for the driver to pick you up and take you to the meeting location. Really wish that would be included in the stated price, would much rather pay that way. The driving instructions are played on a speaker but you have no visual point of reference to what they are referring to on this in the vehicle. The recorded instructions also tell you that if you have a flat tire, it will be a charge of $900 and any cosmetic damage to the vehicle is a minimum of $1000. That should be plainly stated on the website as a disclaimer since that was a big surprise to hear it stated that way. Otherwise it was a great time, rained in the morning so fun with mud and not dust! Vehicles in good shape, needed alignment but that's to be expected considering what they are used for. Tires were good, no one got stuck. Little more than halfway through, guides offered water/soda.
The staff was AMAZING! We drove on streets, through terrain, and stopped at a beach. We were able to switch drivers so both of us could share the experience. The scenery was diverse and beautiful. The downside was having to pay extra to be picked up at our resort and not being able to drive faster.
We had a great experience. Our transportation driver was very friendly and everyone there was nice and accommodating. I would highly recommend this tour. Do, however, allow at least an additional hours time in case of any unforseen delays, as with any tour. We really enjoyed ourselves!
The driving and scenery were fantastic. It was a ton of fun. We did not have any of the problems that some people have reported with equipment/tires. BRING GOGGLES. We wished for dust protection the entire time when one guest mentioned it to the guide he said that they have them for sale but that we should have brought our own. He said it was posted on the description but I can’t find it. He treated the guests like it was their fault they had problems. It was bad enough one pair got lost because they couldn’t see. Our guide got stuck in the mud going very slow so we were close together. He just peeled out until he got unstuck but we were right behind him and got covered in mud. He never said a word about it later while we were washing the mud off in the sea. Overall this should have been perfect but was tarnished by a guide that had probably just had a really long day and was tired of tourists.
Arrive for the trip on time it was raining so I was a little concerned after I inspected the mud buggy and all four tires were bald and slick. I asked how much of this tour would be on the road they said 50%… I thought for a minute and said, I don’t think I’m going to take this trip today. Please cancel me.
Everything went wrong! The guide got stuck and we had to save him so our tour got Messed up He didn’t even apologize!!!! Didn’t offer compensation
Had a great time!! Able to see parts of the island I wouldn’t have seen otherwise! My advise for anyone wanting to do this, don’t be afraid of getting a little muddy, it’s the best part!!
