Disappointing spa experience. Being told on the phone when booking that we could all book into the spa before we checked in, we arrived early, only to be told of hotel policy that 16 year olds were not allowed in the gym or the pool. Staff advised us that the policy was on the website. I spent the next hour searching every single page on the website. It’s not there. Even the hotel brochure states that under 6 year olds are not allowed in the gym or pool, nothing about 16 year olds. The hotel is getting tired now, it really needs some money and time spent on it, the shower decides itself if it wants to work, the decor is getting very old, the rooms are very 80’s decor and style. There isn’t really much enthusiasm from for you enjoy your stay. Don’t think I’ll bother again sorry.

Room was poor….central heating didn’t work (small oil heater provided), chair seat was badly stained, refreshment table completely stained, bathroom in desperate need of refurbishment. At breakfast my wife asked for scrambled egg on toast and was told to make her own toast and they’d bring some egg from the kitchen. Dinner in Romana’s was mixed, good starters, mediocre main courses. The one positive was that the library, restaurant, and breakfast room are pleasant….but at the expense of the main customer experience.
We have just returned from a 5 night stay at this hotel, that we found to be Rundown, Extremely Dated and in need of complete refurbishment and all areas being mostly dusty and dirty. First room bed needed a new mattress, very uncomfortable, noisy springs like sleeping on a trampoline, we requested a room change, the bed was slightly better. This room had 2 windows with only 3 curtains instead of 4, curtains were hanging off rails and were stained, like everywhere in this hotel there was accumulated dust, dead flies on windowsills and floor, bathroom had a shower curtain that was stained and dirty at the bottom. You are encouraged to put sign on door requesting room to be cleaned ( which we did), however they don’t clean the rooms, we came back to find clean towels on an unmade bed, bins not emptied, same dead flies and bathroom not cleaned for 5 days, probably because there are not enough staff and they only work from 11am to 3pm to service 30 rooms. Public areas don’t look as if they have been cleaned or dusted for some time, in Breakfast room the blinds at the windows are yellow and stained, the curtains are dusty, not very hygienic where food is being served. Hotel reception is not manned all morning until 2pm, there is no management structure or staff. There are not enough staff members, they all seem to multi task and seem stretched with no one taking overall control. Most of the staff were very helpful and friendly and trying their best in very difficult circumstances. Romana’s restaurant was mainly good food, some dishes were very pricey. Spa was very good, not convinced it was as clean as it could be though, we had pre booked massage treatments for our last day, which were cancelled at last minute by staff, who were not really concerned at the inconvenience to us, very disappointing. This hotel feels as if it’s being run on a shoestring and no investment put into it by its present owners, running it down. All in all a very expensive and disappointing stay, we will certainly NOT be darkening its doors again. I would say to anyone considering a stay here not to bother go elsewhere.
We arrived early in the day, about 11am and used the spa. We enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi and sauna all of which were lovely. The adjoining gym looked well kitted out but we were there to relax so didn't go in!! For our late lunch we enjoyed a delicious vegan mushroom risotto for lunch. We checked into our room about 4pm. The room was clean and beautifully presented. After settling in to the room, we took a walk in the gardens which are so romantic. Sadly we didn't see any red squirrels! Dinner was delicious. Again we had the vegan options and it cost us about £50 in total plus drinks. The ambience in the restaurant was perfect for our anniversary celebration meal. Breakfast was the usual hotel offering, both continental and full Welsh with drinks. Only thing to be aware of is that the cooked breakfast took ages to come out..... Fresh food not fast food I expect they would say! It was however delicious. We departed after breakfast but I believe the spa was available should we have wanted to go again. Anglesey itself has some great walks and coastline and definitely worth a visit. The local town, not so great but we used the hotel as a destination hotel so intended to stay within the grounds throughout our short stay. Finally, all the staff were helpful and extremely polite. Nobody seemed to hide from their duties and smiles and pleasantries were commonplace. Would we stay again? definitely if we were in the area and more often if we didn't live so far away!
Beautiful building in Anglesey, only stayed for one night but was a pleasant visit, friendly/ welcoming staff on the front desks for hotel and wellness facility. The room was lovely with a large poster bed. And plenty of space with tall ceilings. Loved the decor and felt like you had took a step in time. Breakfast was yummy and sets you up for the day. Think the track road to the hotel needs to be resurfaced! And the steam room was more like a wet room with salts? Unless we weren’t working it right and couldn’t use the taps in there? Great stay, would Recommend and stay again.
