We had the most wonderful, knowledge-filled, and downright fun day on our private tour with Callum. What a character! I can't stress the benefit of doing something small group in an area with so many points of interest to ensure you don't miss the pertinent history that may be unheard or not shared when it's you and 20 other passengers. Callum took his time when we needed to slow down due to our aged knees, and was open to tweaking the itinerary. Maiky (spelling?) was our guide for the day. She was full of personality and information. The vendors at the different stops knew her which was helpful. The windmill stop in Zaanse Schans was great. We could take as much time as we wanted and weren’t rushed. We enjoyed the cheese stop and clog demonstration, as well. We were able to choose from 3 restaurants for our lunch and Maiky had the menus available for us to look at in advance, which we appreciated. Volendam was nice, too. My 2 points of constructive criticism are this- we booked many tours for our 12 day trip and all tour operators EXCEPT this one, sent a message via Viator several days in advance letting us know the details of the tour as fart as tour guide name and reminding about the start time. This co. Did not acknowledge the booking ever which didn’t give us the warm, fuzzy feeling that they even knew about it. My second point is the ferry to Marken was unnecessary. We took the 30 minute ferry while our guide drove t Marken and she met us there. But we didn’t know where to meet her. She said “she’d find us” and it was not as easy as that . We wasted more time looking for her than enjoying Marken. I would recommend driving to Marken with the guide and allowing her to show you around. Or skip Marken altogether and spend more time in Volendam. Even with my last 2 points I do recommend the tour!
Excellent resident knowledge! Tour included Village, Farm & History content; old, dike with reclaim background, new tech farming & fishing overview. Lunch with local residents away from tourists was appreciated for quality and culture. The dairy farm has on demand robotic milking with individual cow data base for milk production. Village had various working windmills. Volendam boat transfer had fabulous onboard ferry local engagement, easy for Canadians. Get off the beaten path, experience.

Callum was prompt, exceptionally kind and friendly as well as patient. He answered all of our questions and more! His car was clean and well maintained. Callum was informative and had a great sense of humor. We met a couple later that evening at the hotel restaurant and already recommended him!

Omg, our tour guide Kalemn took us around windmills, high up in the chamber and explained everything to us from back in the Viking days. Kalemn was the BEST tour guide we had on our 11 day vacation and tours. If you have the opportunity to request his for this tour, definitely do it. He also took us through the heart of Amsterdam ( my request), which made this tour the tops!!! Our lunch was an amazing experience learning about smoke eel. My husband loved that!
To see the country side around Amsterdam in one day this is your tour. We were picked up at our hotel in downtown Amsterdam (not an easy place to get around by car) and taken to see and experience all things Dutch: charming Dutch village, process of making wooden shoes, windmill operations, automated milk cow farm and cheese making and wonderful lunch at a restaurant perched atop a dike next a lake. Wonderful day tailored to our interests. Highly recommend.

Initially, we were not able to get in touch with the tour provider Zaan Tours via any of the methods posted in Viator or Internet. We wanted to know the name and transportation information for planning purposes. We were glad that Liselore came to pick us up exactly on time 0900 at our hotel for our tour. We had a private tour with her and we really enjoyed it. She was very informartive and friendly. Zaans Schans is a beautiful place. We were able to take several pictures with the windmills and some clogs outisde the Clog Factory. The experience to the Cheese Factory was nice. The fishing town of Volendam was very charming. We had lunch there. It was delicious. Finally, we took a boat ride to Marken....just to chill. Liselore waited for us at Marken to ride us back to Ámsterdam. Overall a very worthy tour and enjoyable. Liselore was an excellent tour guide.
A great day out of the city of Amsterdam with Bart to Zaanse Schans and the fishing village of Volendam. Windmills, Clog making, best Cod you've ever eaten in the most scenic of restaurants and cheese tasting. It doesn't get more Dutch than that. Bart was a terrific host that combined passion for his part of the world with hospitality and professionalism.

I was a little skeptical about taking this trip. I have had so many bad experiences, but I tried Viator trip with Zaan tours and I was thrilled .. this exceeded our expectations. Bianca Is incredibly knowledgeable. She’s a local and she knows where everything is. She even dropped us off At the Heineken experience so we didn’t have to walk from our hotel. Wow!
This was an excellent tour, higher than a 5 stars! We were a group of 6 friends in our 60’s traveling together. Our guide, David, was exceptional. Very knowledgeable and fun! He was very accommodating and patient with some of our limited mobility issues and added an extra stop on our request. The included lunch was delicious, we went to a really nice local pub/restaurant. David went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our time together.

Esther was an amazing tour guide. She knew all the right spots for us. Fantastic lunch spot, my husband even tried the famous smoked eel. It was our favorite day in Amsterdam traveling the countryside, small villages and windmills. Esther’s stories were filled with knowledge, details and a personal aspect that is very important.

Highly recommend this. You get out of Amsterdam for a little and see parts of Holland you would not normally see. Spending time with our tour guide David was memorable because he gave us a real perspective of life in the Netherlands. We were treated to a relaxing day in the countryside starting with Zaans Schans where we visited the area of 6 windmills and went inside one. We also saw the process of making wooden shoes. Continuing on we stopped at the Willig Dairy Farm & enjoyed cheese tastings. Next to Volendam where we enjoyed lunch at a local restaurant. While there we walked to the pier and took the ferry to Marken. Our guide met us there and she offered to take us to another village, Broek, & it was a delightful stroll through the small community. I highly recommend the private tours; it allows for the opportunity to cover a lot of area.
We had a great time on our Zaanse Schans, Volendam and Marken Private Countryside tour. Our driver was friendly and well informed. Because he was unable to park close to some of the stops, he was willing to go to the van and pick us up so we did not need to walk the distance. Would recommend the tour.
