A fantastic up close history of the old windmills in this sweet quaint village. Can’t say enough about our great guide Maikke! She was so much fun !
Caroline was an absolutely amazing tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the history and very personable. I would highly recommend her and this tour.
We had a wonderful guide Caroline who made our activity very enjoyable. She provided a private experience and ensured it stayed that way even with the crowds. I would absolutely recommend her.
What a wonderful tour. Bianca our guide was so knowledgeable and kind. She made the trip! She knew everyone and added so much history along with recent events. She was very engaging and managed the trip experience so it never felt rushed. I would highly recommend the trip and her!! Thank you Bianca
Very attentive to the needs of indivuals in our group as well as the whole group. Answered every question and learned from questions to tailored future commentary.
July 31, 2026. Our wonderful guide, Caroline, met us at our cruise port...early...and was instantly welcoming and made us (two Florida couples in our 70's ) so excited to be on her tour. Our personalities immediately clicked and we had the best tour we have had in years! She was extremely well informed and told us so many details we would have never gotten on our own. The windmills, wooden shoe and cheese demonstrations and gorgeous on- site homes, some complete with unique pet chickens, made an interesting tour and Caroline's patience with our questions, shopping for souvenirs, picture taking, and willingness to show us anything we wanted to see, was incredible. At the end we felt she was more of a friend than simply a perfect tour guide. She is a real gem and getting her as a guide will make your entire visit to the Amsterdam area extremely special. Thanks Caroline!!
This was a fabulous tour and one of the top 3 things that we did on our 3 week trip. The reason for it being so fantastic was because we were met at our hotel in Amsterdam by Sharon, for a private tour. It was because we had Sharon as our guide that the tour was even better than we had hoped! Sharon is considerate, fun, polite and has so much wonderful knowledge that she shared with us. It made us enjoy our visit to Zaanse Shans so much more! Thank you to Viator for using such a fantastic tour company. (Zaan tours)
Carolina was very professional and informative. I would recommend this excursion. The village is very cute.
We were met early at the cruise terminal. Enjoyed the information and tour by a true local who lives in the village.
We took a private tour from Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans in early May. Our guide, Bianca, truly made our tour. She was so friendly, funny and informative. We visited the Zaanse Schans with my husband's elderly parents and she fully customized the tour to their pace and interests. She knows everyone at all the little stores and museums which made the visit feel extra personal. We truly felt like VIP's as she navigated us through the busy area and made it feel like a very authentic experience. Thanks again, Bianca!
Our tour was led by Han, the mayor of Zane’s. The three hour tour was fantastic and so convenient with pick up and drop off at our hotel. Han was informative, courteous and interesting. I highly recommend this tour.
Hans was on time, safe drive to the area and a very interesting tour. The pace was good for us, he made sure my husband was able to keep up. The talk was informative. Saw all the sights we wanted to see. Very useful to be able to skip some of the lines as we were with a guide. Would recommend.
Totally enjoyable afternoon with a very knowledgeable and personable guide . Would highly recommend!
Lovely place to visit and our guide was absolutely amazing - informative and friendly. The experience would not have been as good without her
Very beautiful our guide Mikey was very friendly and explained everything. It was obvious she was so proud and loves her country. A delight for all of us.
This was a great tour. Our guide, Bianca, was amazing. She gave us so much information on the area and the history. We really enjoyed the private tour and would highly recommend.
Ray was a great guide. Picked us up from our hotel on time and provided a great tour of the village and windmills. Loved learning about the local culture, seeing the wooden shoes made, learning about how cheese was made, tasting the cheese, touring inside a working windmill, and tasting the local chocolate. Had a great time and drop off back at the hotel after was great. Would definitely recommend to others.
A great 3-hour tour just outside of Amsterdam. A wonderful way to experience the countryside of the Netherlands. See working windmills, a clog making demonstration and cheese tasting in a charming, village setting. Our tour guide Rei was terrific!
Despite the rainstorm, we were delighted by the beautiful scenes in Zaanse. David is a very caring and patient tour guide. We are grateful for his help.
Fantastic tour of the historic windmills of Amsterdam. Our tour guide Sharon was fantastic in her knowledge and enthusiasm of the area. Highly recommend and just a short 30 minutes from Old Amsterdam.
If you have a limited amount of time this is the tour for you. Centuries old homes, windmills, lumber, wooden shoe, cheese, spice and paint exhibits demonstrating the daily crafts that represented the lives of these proud people. Our guide, Mikke, was exceptional.
Our tour guide lives in the area so she was very knowledgeable about the exhibits and history. She had a great personality and was a lot of fun.
Very personalized. Sharon did a wonderful private tour for the two of us. We had a lovely time and Sharon was very knowledgeable.
The tour was amazing with Ray! Her knowledge of the area was wonderful as she shared interesting information on the way & at each site. We had a private tour which made it so much more personal & educational!
Wonderful area, very picturesque… BART did a great job, would definitely recommend him and this tour
We had an absolutely wonderful tour of Zaanse Schans with Bianca! On the drive there, she gave us the history of the area, found us quiet little areas in the town on a busy day, and took amazing pictures for us. We loved her sense of humor and how welcoming she was towards us. We highly recommend asking for her when booking!
We spent a fabulous afternoon on a private excursion with Kenny. Zaanse Schans is a beautiful, quaint little village which did not disappoint! We enjoyed seeing how wooden shoes are made, tasting lots of cheese and seeing the inner workings of a windmill. Kenny was engaging and has a vast knowledge of the area.
Very reliable Extremely knowledgeable Wonderful personality Nice vehicle Interesting sights and tastes
The tour guide was excellent you could tell she was well informed and that she liked her job. The fact we were picked up at the hotel was so convenient. The tour was fabulous the windmills amazing. Perfect tour.
Maaike was our tour guide/driver….she has an extensive knowledge of the area and her grasp of the history in each site was impressive She was very kind and just a lot of fun..
Maiki was fabulous. She walked us around the town, giving us the history of the town and the windmills. We got to see how clogs were made (who knew how quickly) , taste some freshly made cheese a and got to go inside a windmill , see the inner working and go to the top and see amazing views. I highly recommended this tour
Callum was excellent. He made sure we had an amazing experience during our tour. My sister has mobility issues and tour was at our pace - no pressure to hurry. Would do again!! Thanks so much!
Maaike’s childhood experiences at her grandfather’s windmill where he lived definitely made an impression on her. Those experiences have made her an excellent guide for Zaanse Schans and any part of the Netherlands as she has great pride and an in-depth knowledge of windmills, historical architecture, waterways, and the country in general. She was delightful and very conversational. We enjoyed our tower entire tour from pick up to drop off. The fan she picked us up in on our private tour was comfortable and well-maintained.
Rai was excellent and conducted a great tour of her hometown. She was on time and really informative.
We had a good time exploring Zaanse with Ray. She was polite, flexible with our needs and amazing sharing knowledge about the Dutch heritage. A great option for half day trip outside Amsterdam.
The whole experience was excellent! Presentations were well done by the staff. Time was sufficient in each area of the tour.
The tour and town were FABULOUS! It was like something out of a storybook. Our guide was perfect! He even carried my bag of souvenirs. He went slow and even let us sit down while he explained things (my husband and I have both had recent knee replacements). I loved the windmills and little bridges and tiny canals! I loved the whole experience!
We had a wonderful tour with Mubarak. Zaanse Schans is such a unique experience from the busy city of Amsterdam and a piece of culture from the Netherlands. We loved it.
BART was a fantastic guide. Picked us up at our VRBO. Great knowledge and very personable. Easy to have conversation with. Highly recommend tour with Bart
Rayette was the best tour guide ever!!!! She took us at a perfect pace. She was so knowledgeable, so proud of her hometown, and just a wonderful person. She made our day do fun and relaxing. This is a must do tour!! Loved it!!!!
Great tour! Would recommend this to anyone who wants a great tour. Very pretty city to visit and take lots a great pics
Beautiful spot, it was fun to see, was worried the kids would not like the clogs, and the cheese, but they enjoyed both!
We have Caroline as our tour guide. She is a local and grew up in this village that we are visiting . Her English is excellent. Her stories are interesting, and she is super friendly and helpful. She carries a big smile on her face all the time. We love all the itinerary in this tour. Our driver Ajiz (?) is also super. He is friendly, helpful and he is good at his job. All in all worth every penny!
This was one of our best experiences we had on our vacation! Our guide David was great! Very informative and loved sharing his culture and knowledge. The windmills were amazing and loved meeting Peter the windmill owner! We all enjoyed the clog factory and learning about cheese making and sampling the cheese. The entire village was a great and would recommend visiting early as it got crowed as the day went on. We would definitely recommend this tour!
