An art museum with a difference - huge pieces of street art displayed in a massive former industrial building (I think it was used for ship building or something similar). They range from thought-provoking, confusing, disturbing, surprising to witty and irreverent. Plus the free ferry gives you an opportunity to see the outer reaches of Amsterdam from the water.

Fantastic street art displayed in old ship building factory. Take the free ferry across from central station for a perfect day out.
This museum blew us away! So much to see and in such a cool spot. It is a huge warehouse filled with spectacular graffiti art. We went at the end of the day and had the place basically to ourselves but we wish we had a bit more time, 1.5 hours wasn't enough! Definitely a hidden gem.
One should come to understand that street art is as high an art form as any other art. The Strast can help overcome prior misconceptions.
I like art, but not in any pretentious way, and this museum certainly ticked all the boxes for me. Upon entry, there are holders for wet umbrellas and (free) lockers for your bags. How you'll respond to the art on display will depend entirely on your personal taste and appreciation for each art form. Not all styles are for everyone! But I'd like to think there is something here for everyone; there certainly was for me. I had a fantastic time. When I finished the art on the ground, I went around again just looking at everything I'd missed above. Two hours flew by so easily. There is a café here serving a range of drinks and toasted foods. Toilets are very clean and not only featured even more graffiti but also a Banksy! During my visit, there was an entire exhibition on dedicated to the work of Henry Chalfant, one of the first people to photograph and record early graffiti and street art culture. As the art on display does change, it is a good location for repeated visits.
Very interesting museum with wonderful artwork. Some pieces were absolutely amazing . It was not what I was expecting at all.
Not only art fens should visit and be impressed from the very interesting impressive exhibitions offering an excellent introduction to the street art world wide variety & “development”.
We went as a school group with some art students from the school were I work. The guided tour lasted about 1 hour but our visit was just over 2 hours. All the students were in awed at the size and quality of the exhibits. It wasn't crowded so we had time to walk around and take in the art without feeling pressured. The ambiance was very chilled and tranquil. This was one of the highlight of our trip.
A really cool exhibition in a great urban-industrial setting. An essential visit for anyone interested in street art culture, or are open to new experiences. The vibe was really relaxed and I was able to take my time to look around. Visitors are welcome to take photos and there is a bar/cafe with a nice range of drinks and snacks. The gift shop is amazing too, with a diverse range of items including books, art prints, clothing and other themed items. Well worth the entrance fee. Highly recommended!
What an amazing space full of beautiful art. It didnt take long to look around but we were happy that we did.
Would have voted 5 if there was more and the light coming through skylights didn’t bleach out the art up high. Also through the shop was overpriced. Good bits. Liked the free audio tour on the female artists. Great varied art that also interested kids of young tonnage and preteen. Spent a couple of hours at least in here which I didn’t think we would. Took loads of photos and learnt a bit on new/different street artists. Cool location.
The STRAAT Museum was a great surprise. Located in an old ship manufacturing building it houses very well done art, some of it is immense in scale. The museum is well done, excellent information throughout, and all very impressive. For most the experience will include transport via the free ferry from near Amsterdam Centraal, which rounds out the experience. The exhibit is lesser known and not crowded, you will enjoy it.
Our final morning in Amsterdam. The centre towards Dam Square was extremely busy on this Friday morning so we caught the free 15min ferry to NDSM from the back of Amsterdam Centraal. 3 minutes walk from ferry saw us at Straat. I'd managed to buy discounted tickets from tripper.nl. Loved the scale of the art, the variety and really appreciated that it's not just the Dutch masters who had talent. Some of the art certainly engaged our teens. The warehouse was informal & spacious which meant we had space to enjoy. Area has a very different vibe from around station which was great to experience. Highly recommend.
Unexpected and fantastic addition to your trip! I didn’t know about the Street Art museum before we came to Amsterdam but a tour guide recommended it and we loved it! We took the ferry over and it was a simple (and free) trip. I loved the art! I’m so glad we went.
The warehouse/museum and the art is awesome. The building next door is also worth visiting. Very interesting enjoyable experience.
Take the free number 4 ferry for a 15 ride to the Museum for street art and graffiti and you will understand why street art which had a rough beginning in terms of being accepted is now one of the most important art movements worldwide. Enjoy the eye candy displayed by over 150 international recognized artists. The museum itself is a former ship building ware house so the perfect venue to display huge installations. Plan your time to stay longer than you expect so that you can really read about the artist and take a pic of the QR codes of those that peek your interest. Also, make sure you explore the space surrounding the museum. We had the opportunity to watch artists at work. In terms of tickets, I understand it was a free admission with the Amsterdam city card, but we just paid directly at the museum as it was our last visit in Amsterdam before going to the airport. The Straat Museum was two of our favorite experiences in Amsterdam. It was the place I took the most pictures and really wish we had another two hours to spend there and at the NDAM wharf.
Learned the meaning and difference between graffiti and street art! Amazing artwork sending out. meaningful messages.
I had the Iamamsterdamcard and entrance was included with this. The entry fee was 21.50 so I am going to base my review on this. My favourite museum in the whole city. You have to get a ferry from the back of central station over to NDSM but the ferry only takes around 6/7 minutes and is free and runs regularly. The museum is set in a revamped factory/warehouse and its perfect for street art. There is a really high ceiling kinda like a church and it creates a fantastic atmosphere for the art. The pieces are well spread out and I usually dont take the audio tour but I did for this one. Not every piece appears in the audio tour so you have to keep an eye out for the ones that are on it. There is art on the walls also and there is more on the second floor. There is a lovely little cafe on the second floor also and I stopped and tried a few of the craft beers there. Reasonably priced beers at 6.50 and again just a really relaxing spot to chill out for a while. I enjoyed this museum so much I walked it a 2nd time after the cafe before leaving. Five Stars and great value for money.
Fantastic history of street art. The experience is well worth the visit. Highly recommend making it a stop on your visit to Amsterdam.
I love art so taking my time to look at all the street art was amazing. It was so beautiful inside and just amazing to be able to experience.
Fresh and inclusive work. My 14 year old grandson found work that spoke to him, addressed his interests and validated his experiences and endeavors. Loved it.
Amazing place!!! 🫶🤯 You should really take the time to check this out, wheather you're a graffitti lover or not-it's monumental and the place itself is worth the trip. There are free ferries running 24/7 to get you across behind cetral station.
This museum is underrated. The street art displays are huge and beautiful. Just hop on the free ferry and you'll get there in no time. It's not crowded at all and the cafe is decent for a quick break. I spent more than 2 hours there and enjoyed the visit. Totally recommended for those who want to appreciate different kinds of art.
The Straat was recommended by a friend who is a travel writer. Though it is a bit off the beaten path, it’s worth a quick ferry ride (or bus/metro) to this newly developed industrial area turned hip artists and business district. The collection is ever changing, inspiring, thought provoking and unique. With thoughtful descriptions of each piece and a few video explanations (along with guide via QR code) this is an engaging contemporary “museum” experience. You can even buy spray paint at the gift store and create your own work of art on the building exterior. Great original experience for teens too
This should be higher in the list of must visits. A quick free ferry ride to the museum. The space is spectacular! A huge old shipping warehouse that has been sensitively restored so it looks so authentic. Cafe wasn’t amazing but we didn’t mind. The art was also spectacular and the size of each piece fitted perfectly with the space. The sculpture was also amazing and would love to see more sculpture in future. A must visit in Amsterdam
Definitely recommend stopping by. 100+ murals made by street artists across the world. Truly impressive to see.
A fantastic space full of great installations that are larger than lid. Just next door was a fab cafe bar and next to that was an old warehouse where artists have their studios and you can just wander and look at discarded works and see them at work. BUT is out of the way and is a good walk/ferry from central station. We Ubered for about £10-£12 each way
We took the NDSM ferry (free) to the Noord and the STRAAT museum was only a 3 minute walk. It’s simply amazing! The art was massive and beautifully done. After, we walked around the museum to photograph more street art and had lunch at Pllek. It was a lovely afternoon!
Lots of awe inspiring pieces to look at. If you like street art this is a must see. The scale of the pieces and the variety of styles had us saying wow a lot.
Fantastic museum. Really interesting and engaging artwork. Fun getting the ferry from Amsterdam Central and exploring Noord Amsterdam. Some great bars and cafes nearby. But I’ve marked it down a few points as it is also fantastically expensive. No doubt the overheads may be high and the Netherlands not as cheap as it used to be. However it is €21.50 per adult to get in. I thought street art was supposed to be accessible to the masses, this is more expensive than the Musee d’Orsay, a comparative bargain at €16. no wonder I had the freedom of the place to wander around. If you can afford it I highly recommend it!
We visited STRAAT as it was included with the IAmsterdam City Card and loved it. It’s a fantastic museum featuring a wide range of street art across multiple floors. The location is easy to reach, just a short walk from the ferry at Amsterdam Central Station. Free lockers are available, and there’s a lovely café on site. A must-see for art lovers.
A really cool and different museum experience focused on street art. The museum itself was not busy when I visited and was easy to move through at a relaxed pace. I happened to be there the same day as the sailing event that takes place every five years, which created a lot of excitement and energy in the surrounding area. The space is impressive and the artwork is bold and easy to appreciate, even if you’re not deeply into art. Definitely worth the trip if you’re looking for something outside the typical museum experience.
On 12/13, Saturday at 10:52 PM, I was booking a ticket for STRAAT Museum to visit on Sunday, 12/14. You had a system glitch, and you booked a ticket for 12/13, Saturday. On Saturday, Museum closes at 5:00PM, so that ticket is useless. I called and tried to explain two of your representatives and the person said they CANNOT do anything, as I booked it for 12/13. How does that make sense? When I asked for manager to help, all of a sudden, call had issues and it was disconnected
Amazing museum within an old warehouse. Artworks are huge and area is spacious so you can wander around as much as you like. Really enjoyed it and would not hesitate to visit when I am back in Amsterdam
This is absolutely amazing! We loved this place, it was so vibrant and a great place to see so much talent. The venue itself was amazing too, a lovely old warehouse with the original machinery still in place, a wonderful backdrop for all of the artworks. The cafe was good too and we had the best coffee there than any other place in Amsterdam! The memory will be with us forever as the highlight of our stay in Amsterdam, thank you xx
They say art is subjective so whilst I would say there wasn't a lot that I enjoyed someone else could be having the best time. My favourites (at the time of my visit) were the Bob in Crazy- DavidL Unconscious- Odeith
Cool art. Different from other experiences in Amsterdam. The art is grouped according to themes which makes the experience more cohesive. There's a nice cafe upstairs in which to partake before getting back on the ferry.
This place is amazing! It was a place I saw on Instagram and had to go! So worth it!!! I highly recommend it!
I could’ve spent so much longer in here. There was so much to see without it feeling overwhelming at any point. Every emotion was on display here, I laughed and cried in equal measures as I made my way through. The building itself is marvellous and feels almost like you’ve snuck into somewhere you shouldn’t be. Profoundly moving and an all round amazing experience. The highlight of my entire trip. Thank you for having us.
nothing else here is. To describe these works as graffiti is flat out untrue. Maybe some of the artists tagged a local wall in the way-back, but not a single piece on display was ever graffitied. They were all done for this setting. (I have no idea how one makes the cut or how compensation is determined.) Yeah, a few of the pieces show glimmerings of skill, but for the most part, they’re simply schlock, every single piece. They are all accompanied by a wordy label, mostly self-serving drivel. Just because these people take themselves seriously doesn’t mean you need to.
Surreal experience. The massive warehouse encapsulates a diverse variety of street art that is larger than life, allowing the viewer to fall into the artists message
We loved this museum! This is a must see and the murals are truly stunning. I went with my husband and every where we looked we were amazed by the artwork. The panels are huge! There were not a lot of people when we went so you could really take your time to appreciate the art. There are several benches throughout the exhibit space, and they have a cafe overlooking all the art. We had lunch here and enjoyed it. The prices for food were very reasonable. WE took the free Ferry from Central station across the harbour. Be sure to look for the yellow submarine when you get to the other side!
This is such an interesting museum. It was one of the highlights of our recent visit to Amsterdam. The mostly large pieces cover all sorts of themes and styles. There’s an audio guide available which gives some good information. But we also loved just wandering around and checking out all the cool art. The neighborhood is also interesting to see and gives you a different perspective on Amsterdam.
Great museum. It was nice to see something so different and unique. This was way more to our liking than some of the other museums. You can get through it in about 45 minutes and gives a good reason to test out a ferry ride and explore another area. There were many cool works of art and on your way out there is an area where artists can practice/create their own art via spray paint for free so the art work is always changing outside the building.
Amazing exhibition, so much art on display, great variation with more pieces being prepared. The whole area is so interesting with a great place to eat next door. A must see for anyone interested in street art and graffiti.
A huge fantastic collection of interesting, colourful, fascinating graffiti art! We were a family of four with a 12 & 15 year old and the boys actually enjoyed this more than the Van Gogh museum (we did enjoy that too!). It’s unusual and great to see art on such a huge scale. It’s got a nice cafe inside with does great homemade iced tea, nice beer and lovely hot chocolate, and the gift shop is interesting too. To get there, you walk out the back of the Centrum station, and look for the F4 ferry to NDSM - it’s a free ferry that leaves every 15 mins, and takes about 15 mins to get over to the other side. We combined this with booking onto the pancake boat which leaves from very close to the STRAAT, and our teenagers loved both, a great day out.
Only spotted STRAAT on a Google search in the morning, so glad I did. Really interesting, forget Vangoh, this is proper art!
Excellent! Great space and great art. Unlike traditional art viewing. If you love art and street art this is a must in Amsterdam. Free ferry when you walk out the back of the main Amsterdam central station. Check it’s the ferry for the gallery. Lovely quick 15 mins on the ferry….. gallery is huge, free lockers, toilets and cafe! Great gift art shop.
I was horrified to see the massive image of Anne Frank at the entrance with the caption 'Let me be myself'. No one has the right to appropriate what Anne Frank suffered for their own narcissistic purposes. Zero stars from me. And the cost of entry pays for 80% of your Rijksmuseum ticket where you can see some real art.
I was looking forward to this visit, having visited the MOCO Museum a few days before. From the moment you walk in, you’re hit with colours, shapes, and scale. The art is impressive, but so is the building. We started by heading to the café, which gave us a good view of the building - the coffee and cake were also good (as was lunch later in the day). Once fuelled, we spent a couple of hours exploring all the artwork. I’d highly recommend walking one way around and then double back, as we kept seeing bits we’d missed. Pop outside and have a look at the exterior of the building. We saw some art being created. If this style of art is ‘your thing’, I’d 100% recommend a visit.
