This isn’t about walking through galleries, snapping selfies in front of great art. Do that somewhere else. We were a party of two. Only two, plus two young guides-in-training that were as awe struck as we were with the stories and perspectives Max shared. Max opened our eyes and imaginations to the People’s Museum. He brought the building to life first, grounding us in a rich history and sense of place that has become home to 8,000 pieces curated from some million objects. (What a task, huh?) Breathe in the stain glass, the floor tiles, the dreams of 16th century explorers dreaming of having a place among artists. Feel the magic of the castle/cathedral/library that is home to Vemeer and Rembrandt, and amazing women too. (Yes, female artists were part of the painters guild long before they had rights in most other countries.) Max’s tour is about context. Understanding why the colors still sing today - hundreds of years later - without restoration. Why a maidens blue dress tells more than it shows. Why a smiling couple were such radical rebels. Be sure to experience the celestial globe (yes, a real thing is never heard of), and learn about the ongoing work to restore a cutdown Rembrandt that will continue for another decade. Damn good fun!

Excellent museum tour! Max our museum guide was a gem! Very knowledgeable, engaging and passionate. Learned a lot. Highly recommend!
Honestly the best guide we have ever had. We had Max for the Rijksmuseum. He was so detailed, so knowledgeable and linked it all indelibly. The information was incredible. I didn't appreciate how little I knew or how beautifully sublime art and history could be and that is coming from a history buff. It's the kind of experience we all yearn for and we left better for it. Truly a travel experience we will never forget. We do a lot of tours to maximize our time, but this one was special. Max thank you so much. I have developed an appreciation for things which I simply had no knowledge or comprehension of. I am forever in your debt. Trip advisor, viator GYG or whoever pay this gentleman more he is gold. Rod and Katym Huntley
Our guide, Max, was awesome! He was very knowledgeable, friendly and went out of his way to answer all our questions. He showed us some of the most important art works and discussed them in detail. The tour is just long enough to wet your appetite so that you want to go back and see more. Loved every moment of it.
Our tour guide Max was outstanding!!! He made a large museum extremely accessible and enjoyable to both of us! Max took the time in the beginning to find out if there was anything outside of the tour that we would like to see, and he then made it happen! We were lucky enough to be able to see the Rembrandt while the restoration scaffolding was at its base and 3 of 4 of the Vermeers were in residence at the time of our visit. At the completion of our tour Max took the time to give us some recommendations of interesting parts of the museum to check out. Every aspect of the tour was perfect!
Amazing tour!!! Love having a guide that shares so many interesting stories about the art! Points out so many smaller details that I would have never seen if I had been alone:) Max was obviously very good at his job and knows everyone!! Thanks for an amazing tour!!!
Having a museum-registered guide like Paola makes all the difference. She took us, as promised, to the highlights and explained the finer points of each item and why it was considered so important.
Informative and knowledgeable guide. Would highly recommend this tour.
We had the good fortune to have had a top notch guide. He teaches others to learn to be museum guides and travels around the world to other top rated museums as a guide. Absolutely superb. I could not have appreciated what we saw without his guidance.
Max is excellent. If you want the best tour of this museum this is the one to go with. Very knowledgeable and interesting tid bits of Amsterdam history.
Max was knowledgeable and entertaining. We so enjoyed his choice of paintings to analyze. The time frame of 1 1/2 hours was perfect also.
The guide is very knowledgeable. The tour only covers a small portion of the museum’s collection, but then free to explore on your own.
What an amazing experience. Bene is an amazing tourist guide , she was well knowledgeable and made sure we get up close to each art piece. It was the money worth to have her as she gave us a deeper insight to the importance of each artwork and her little quizzes
Max was the greatest tour guide! Spent longer than our 1.5 hrs. Soooo knowledgeable, informative and patient too. Highlighted significant history. Very very good
The instructions to redeem the museum tickets were unclear and the museum staff did not seem to know what to do either. In the end, we simply waited at the 'meeting point' for our guide Erin and she took care of everything. Erin was fantastic. She was an excellent communicator and passed on her love for the Dutch artist to those listening.
We had a semi private tour which I would highly recommend. Our guide, Max, was excellent, informative and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him learning about Rembrandt, some of the other masters and the history of the museum.
Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and informative! He explained things very well, fun and it ended way to soon!
Our tour guide was excellent. Presented great amount of detail about each piece of art. He took enough time with each item. Lasted 2 hours.
Our guide gave an excellent overview of the world-famous Rijksmuseum including its history. He showed us the most popular paintings, explained their intricate details and answered our questions clearly. He had a professional demeanor throughout our tour.
Easy meet, skipped the line and went right in. Very informative artist guide, sole focus is the golden age hall.
Wonderful experience. Highly recommend the Rijks tour.
Very informative and Max the tour guide was very good about keeping the group together when the museum was very crowded. Would have preferred audio head phones since it was the high season and very busy
Max was wonderful! We learned so much, and enjoyed the paintings so much more with all the insight he added. Max was also great at making space in the crowds so we could see each piece of art easily. We highly recommend this guided tour!
Our tour guide Max was amazing! He focused on key pieces and explained / provided background on each. He was thorough and engaging. Highly recommend!
Wonderful guided tour at the Rijksmuseum! Max our tour guide was fantastic, so knowledgeable and provided perspectives that truly deepened our appreciation for the magnificent artwork before us! So glad we signed up for the tour!
Don’t attempt to attend this museum unless with a guide. Benedecta was very informative and kept our group informed and entertained. Visiting Remstandts Amsterdam home is a solid follow-up to this outstanding museum
The Rijksmuseum is huge and holds treasures from years of Dutch art and history.I appreciated a guide like Max to show us the highlights and what to notice in the artwork.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and professional. He provided great insight into the highlights of the museum.
Great tour. Loved it was a smaller boat so we got a more personable tour. Boat captain was very knowledgeable.
It’s a huge museum & having a private guide was hugely helpful navigating around & getting more information on the artwork. We are not artsy people generally & still got a lot out of it.
Excellent tour and very informative. We enjoyed a lot with Max. We learned a lot about important paintings and artists.
Max, our tour guide, was truly outstanding!! Articulate, Passionate, Knowledgable, Caring! A true professional!!
Max was a fantastic guide for the museum. He was knowledgeable as well as entertaining to all ages in our group, 17-50.
Max was incredibly passionate and engaging. We loved the way he explained every detail about the history of the Netherlands, making the experience both informative and enjoyable. His enthusiasm and knowledge truly brought the stories to life.
Paola was an excellent guide - she was able to nicely unpacked the pieces focused on - it was great to be surrounded by so many pieces, and not just paintings
We visited with Max and he was a great guide, very knowledgeable and pleasant. We definitely saw aspects of the paintings we would never have spotted.
Max was a fantastic guide. Gave us a wealth of information in a fun and interactive way. Hands down the best museum guide we’ve ever had. Would highly recommend
This museum is absolutely massive. Having a guide to walk us through the highlights and provide valuable historical context was enjoyable compared to an audio guide. The tour guide was very knowledgeable to answer questions, passionate about the museum, and well engaged. My husband, 12-year-old daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed it. A great perk - tickets included and skipped the line entering via the group entrance. Book now and enjoy!
We had Mike as our guide at the Rijksmuseum and he was brilliant. He was clearly Mr. Popular at the museum. Super friendly from the start, and had a real knack for getting everyone in the group involved. He made the whole experience feel easy and fun, even for people who wouldn't normally call themselves art lovers. His knowledge was impressive. Hands down one of the best tours we've done.
Another problem with the website and finding the place to meet. We did finally meet our tour guide Benedetta and she was worth the wait. This was a small group tour, which turned out to be My wife and I plus a young couple. I was in a borrowed wheel chair and Benedetta was able to move all four us right in front of the paintings and statues. She shared with us a wealth of information about the paintings and the painters. We were only her second tour and she was great. She moved us from one location to another, like a beautiful dance. Viator has found a beautiful gem in Benedetta, I hope they can keep her. We do recommend this tour.
We really loved the tour. It was presented in a very interesting and fascinating way we got to see the highlights of the museum and a better understanding of the artwork was gained for sure. I highly recommend this tour to anyone that travels to Amsterdam.
I would book this over and over again. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable, and thought us so much about the artwork and so much of the history of the building. I now have a better appreciation for Rembrandt and the other masters. It was the perfect size tour! Small and intimate!
Max was very knowledgeable and courteous. Easy voice to listen to and he was charming. Proves guide is essential.
Benedetta was an excellent guide. She showed us top highlights from the museum and was knowledgeable, friendly and warm.
You only have 90 minutes on the tour and cover a large part of the second floor. It is still entirely worth it. We explored much of the rest on our own.
The museum is amazing! Our guide, Max certainly made it a much more rich and enjoyable experience than if we had just walked through it with no guide. Just the entranceway, he made come alive, showing us so many beautiful and interesting art and facts with the stainless windows at the entrance, the mosaic on the floor, and all the meaning behind it. With a limited amount of time, we went right to the 2nd floor, where the Rembrandt’s are. The knowledge shared and information on the paintings, and showing us so much about his style, the meaning, and the activity and quality of the paintings looking through a glass of water, and depth, it was truly amazing and interesting! Highly recommend! Max made it wonderful experience, wish it could’ve been longer!
Paolo our guide was open to brief pauses for us and replied to questions well. Other tours made waiting an exercise in patience but guide filled the wait with information & stories.
Max, the guide was informative with a lot of interesting facts. Showed symbolism in the painting that we would not see.
Our tour was amazing and Max is an exceptional guide and teacher. One of the best tour guides I’ve ever had!!! My daughter and I learned so much about the art and museum while having a really great time to boot. The Rijk is such a beautiful place plus the cafe’s food is so delicious. I would highly recommend doing this outstanding tour if visiting Amsterdam.
Max the guide could not have made the tour more enjoyable. He met us right on time and really knew how to manage the crowds. He has a great knowledge base and is able to communicate his knowledge well. A very friendly fellow too.
