The Rijksmuseum is impressive and huge. Our tour guide, Max, guided us through all the “must see” paintings. He knew about painting techniques, details of the artists’ lives, and interesting details in each painting. His enthusiasm is contagious. I highly recommend this museum tour and guide.

Max our Guide had sensational knowledge and terrific personality/aurora. And even facilitated wheelchair on short notice.
Guide was pleasant and knowledgeable. Big benefit to skip the line for admission. Guided tour was the right length of time. After the tour, we ate lunch and explored on our own with the Rijksmuseum free app.
Excellent guide furnishing details about the museum building itself along with individual museum pieces.
Expert guidance and interpretation of thoughtfully selected works of art. Guide was engaging, informative, and entertaining.
Remarkable museum. Max was an absolute great guy. Full if knowledge and insight he delivered a very rich and enjoyable experience!! Highlight of our stay in Amsterdam
Absolutely phenomenal. Max was our tour guide. He even helped us get our jackets and bags into a locker so we were not burdened with extra things. He was so knowledgeable and gave us so much information. Loved the tour. Made it the best museum visit we have had. Highly recommend.
We toured the museum on a guided tour with Max. He thoughtfully showed us important pieces of Dutch art providing historical context. Totally worthwhile tour.
Superb tour and a wonderful way to experience and understand the Dutch masters!
This museum is massive and the only way to appreciate it is with a knowledgeable guide. Max was excellent. There is so much to see but I felt we got the best experience possible in the 2+ hrs. The museum and Max were fantastic.
This is a perfect way to see the highlights of the museum. We enjoyed our tour with Max and are so glad we booked this private tour.
Max was wonderful tour guide who took care of us and made sure we could see and hear as he gave us incredible explanations and informative historical Background on some of the most famous paintings in the work!!! Beautiful museum and magical tour
Our guide Max was phenomenal. We aren’t art connoisseurs and he made every effort to make it accessible for us. Great personality and engaging! Highly recommended!
Excellent tour. Our guide guide was very informative and provided in detailed information on the museum and paintings
Max was great and very knowledgeable. Having him give valuable insight to many of the art pieces, that we would have missed.
Our tour exceeded my expectations and my friends were equally pleased. Max was amazing historian and story teller. The pace was perfect, never rushed and Max always made sure we were front and center.
Excellent tour from a very knowledgeable guide…..you will definitely leave the museum with a deep understanding of Dutch art and exploration
Although I have been to the Rijksmuseum before, this was my first trip with my teenage grandson. It was important that he be introduced to the Dutch masters in a way that would be of interesting. Our guide, Max, was fabulous. He was friendly and knowledgeable and understood what we wanted to see and learn. He spoke with clarity and passion which Brought the period and style to life. We had a truly wonderful experience and continued walking the museum after our 2 hrs with Max ended. Great, great visit to the Rijksmuseum.
Wow!! Max was an absolute delight. He engaged all of us (kids and adults) with expansive knowledge of the pieces, the history of the museum, and nearly everything else. This was a gem of an experience!
Max was awesome! The three hours we spent with him (well, minus toilet time) just flew by. We learned a lot, saw the highlights - especially of Rembrandt and Vermeer, but also others - and were thoroughly satisfied. Highly recommended, well worth the cost.
Kimmia did a wonderful tour, very knowledgeable and personable, excellent english
Max, our guide was very knowledgeable and explained the history of different paintings with great details.
Our guide was an art historian with incredible knowledge about the museum and the artwork in the Golden Age of Dutch Art which is the section we asked for the tour.
It was very good because our guide Sophia was excellent. The museum is phenomenal. Give yourself a day to see it after your private tour.
Having a guide in this museum takes the experience from good to great. Max, our guide, made the art come alive. His expertise and passion allowed us to feel the art, not just see it. Highly recommend !
We did a private tour of the Rijksmuseum with Max who was not only knowledgeable in the arts, but connected to so many other areas including philosophy, history and science. Such a treat! Thank you!
Very professional polished, intelligent guide. We were not knowledgeable about the Dutch masters’ work but within a condensed tour we learned a variety of significant details. A wonderful way to see the museum highlights. 5 stars!!!
The Rijksmuseum has an outstanding collection of the Dutch Masters, and Max gave us a lot of the inside story of the symbolism in the paintings, the relationships between the artists and their patrons, and so on..
Max was a great guide. He added touches as he found out more about us. Highly recommend.
Excellent guide who was very knowledgeable about the history of the museum and art in general. He was very informative and engaging
Max was so nice and extremely knowledgeable about pretty much everything in the museum. I highly recommend him.
Max was outstanding! We had a group of 6 and everyone thought he was great. He spent a good deal of time ~10 minutes on each piece and really brought the paintings, history and artist to life. Despite the crowds, Max waited patiently and sometimes inserted himself to make sure could see and hear him. Excellent experience! Would highly recommend.
So I travel a decent amount and whenever I travel I go to museums not because I'm a museum person necessarily but I like to respect the culture and see a number of different things. I've been on countless tours and in countless museums and on countless experiences and I've never had someone that gave me a higher level of appreciation for what I was viewing than Marcel. He's absolutely phenomenal. Book no one else. This guy is the truth
Erin did a great job showing us all the big paintings in this museum. She pointes out the details of the paintings and what the artist was thought to convey. Very friendly and highly recommended.
Our tour guide, Paola, was a wealth of information about the paintings and the history of the era. She was also very good about dealing with some of our group's limitations (inability to stand in one place for a long time, etc.). Highly recommend!
We had a wonderful experience with Benedetta as our guide. She is an art historian, educated in Italy, with such in depth knowledge of the art and artists she showed us! And she made it so fun with little “challenges” as we looked at the art and architecture. She even took us to the dollhouses because she knew we were planning to see them after the tour. She talked about them with us as an historian—a different way of viewing them. Don’t miss this experience in Amsterdam!
It was an excellent experience! The guide was extremely knowledgeable, very personable, snd with an extraordinary art knowledge. It wad being guided by an art professor. I would do it again!!
The official museum tour has a strange schedule so I searched for and found this tour on Viator. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was extremely happy with our guide. He is clearly very experience and knowledgeable and showed us the main highlights. My only tiny complaint was the tour ended earlier than we expected and I would've loved to have seen more paintings.
Max was a pleasure. Extremely knowledgeable and made the tour very enjoyable. Hope you get him as your guide
Our guide, Max, was beyond excellent. His comprehensive knowledge of the art we saw and his ability to explain it clearly made our visit truly memorable.
Max was a tour guide extraordinaire! He was knowledgeable, patient and kind. We felt like we were with our new best friend. I highly recommend a tour with Max
Great over view of the architecture of the beautiful museum as well as the incredible art work. Guide was knowledgeable and informative on all aspects.
Max was a joy. He was incredibly knowledgeable and able to provide information about the architect, building, design and many unique features that we would have missed. Then we started with the art, presented in a sequence that showed the development of artistic techniques. He knew about the period, artists and many times the subject of portrait. All in an informal and easy to understand style. If we ere staying longer we would ask for him again.
Our guide was amazing. Very knowledgeable about the museum and spent about 2 hours with us. Even bought us a cup of coffee after the tour!! Would definitely recommend!
Max was knowledgeable, but his instructions for our meeting point were unclear. He didn’t contact us at all beforehand. When my husband finally found him, he was unapologetic as to the poor instructions. He didn’t introduce himself with his name- I had to ask him.. He did explain the stained glass windows and floor well. In the Hall, he kept moving people who were already there out of the way so we could see. I’m sure that his reasoning was that they could still see behind us, but it made us both very uncomfortable- over and over again. We told him we were done with the tour before the full time bc we were at a good stopping point and we weren’t really enjoying it anymore.
The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He showed and discussed some of the highlights of the Museum, including the most famous Rembrandts, the most famous
Max was an INCREDIBLE guide! We learned so much and really enjoyed our time together! Thank you so very much!
Absolutely worth the cost. Our guide was amazing and guided us through the museum expertly. He took our preferences into consideration. Our tour of 3 felt private.
Max was very knowledgeable and interesting. Entry and coat check was seamless! We saw more than we would notice ourselves. Rijksmuseum has a lot to see, we wish we had allotted more time to spend here. Love the art, the display space and the architecture. Thank you!!
Having a private tour i was able to gain a whole new experience. It was educational and I am much more appreciative of what I was looking at. Max was terrific!!
