Michael was our tour guide and he was truly exceptional. He took what would’ve been a great experience on its own to an amazing experience because of his help and commentary. He was great at pointing out details that we would’ve otherwise missed. This was our favorite part of our whole trip. Highly recommend him as your guide!

This is hands down the best tour we have ever taken. Chris is a wonderful guide, his fantastic knowledge and story telling made the art of the Dutch Golden Age come alive for us. Very Highly recommended.
Our tour was fantastic! Michael was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He customized the tour according to our interests and explained concepts in ways we could understand.
This was an amazing experience with Chris. We Highly recommend taking a tour with him. He made it both fun and informative.
I took this tour over a year ago and still think about it and tell people about it. My recommendation, don’t go to a museum in Amsterdam without this guide! He is extremely knowledgeable and knows exactly where the things you want to see are located. Because of his knowledge, we stood in front of Night Watch alone for a few minutes! Unheard of! Beyond that, I wanted an education about a very specific period of art, The Dutch Masters movement. That was all I wanted but I wanted that in-depth and had lots of questions. He knew exactly where these works were. He could give me detail about each artist, the movement and the specific painting in front of us. He didn’t seem judgy when we finished those works and I didn’t want to see anything more. I would never go back to Amsterdam without getting on this guide’s schedule before I planned the trip. Read my other reviews, I’ve never been this emphatic before. My only regret, that I didn’t take the time to write this review earlier.
Michael was great. He’s extremely knowledgeable. He’s an artist himself, which differentiates him from many guides, who are typically art historians. The variety of perspective was interesting. Highly recommend. The museum is fabulous with tons of great works. FYI - the Night Watch is under renovation now, but you can see it as they do the work.
The museum is very large and without a wonderful guide like Michael it would be impossible to navigate. This was a fantastic experience. You got to see Rembrandt’s most famous paintings and why he was a fantastic painter. Because of Michael we got to know Rembrandt’s life and why he ended up bankrupt. Great experience overall!
Our recent Rijksmuseum tour with Micheal. was perfect! He showed us everything we wanted to see plus many things that he knew would be of interest based on our taste. He has such a depth of knowledge about the museum. It was a great building block for the rest of our tour. Hope to visit your country again sometime and to experience it through Amsterdam Experiences
Kayleigh was an outstanding guide. Knowledgeable and passionate about the art in the Rijksmuseum. Very open to answering questions. If a guide can make or break a tour, Kayleigh made this tour a memorable experience. Well worth the cost of a private tour.
Our guide was knowledgeable and tailored the tour to our interests. He was able to answer any question we asked about the art work.
Kayleigh was our guide and was phenomenal! She is knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about the art, which made the stories come alive. Her ability to connect the past to the present was impressive, providing engaging context and deepening our understanding and appreciation of the exhibits.
Great insight into art works and techniques. He also was able to fix my iPhone since it would not update to Amsterdam time automatically…..
We r so glad we booked a private tour for this museum- it was worth every penny. Our guide Chris was excellent. He made our museum visit a memorable one
This excursion was very easy to arrange before I traveled to Europe. Additionally, it was very easy to communicate with the vendor who was kind enough to provide contact details for the tour guide. On the day of the tour the guide met this group of 7 on time, was very professional and proceeded to guide us around the amazing Rijksmuseum. The vendor followed up with me to assure all my needs had been met...I will most definitely use Viator for future excursions.
Edgar Our guide was very knowledgeable , but became a bit frustrated with us as we did not move along fast enough for him and mumbled so it was a bit difficult at times to hear him.
Amazing and educational tour. Highly recommended if you want to know more about the Dutch history and the famous painters.
Our guide, Anna, was exceptional in every way. From advance notice emails to a very informative tour, she was professional, knowledgeable, and gracious.
Unfortunately the private guide missed the appointment in his diary, and the tour was not done. .
Rijksmuseum has always been a must for the Amsterdam tourist. I visited the museum before with the audioguide and it was OK but a private tour with Amsterdam Experience completely changed my point of view to the classical Dutch art. Our knowlegeable guide showed us Hals, Vermeer and Rembrandt and others not as monuments but as a real people - the artists with there joy and tragedies and we watch very famous paintings from a very different perspective. 5 out of 5!
I absolutely enjoyed the tour. Kaleigh, the guide, did a great job. She managed to educate me about the history and culture of the Netherlands through the fantastic artworks exhibited in the museum. My dream to see Rembrandt and Vermeer came true. Thank you Amsterdam Experiences for helping me make best memories of my trip to your city.
the museum is amazing - couldn't believe we were really there among all the paintings we've only seen in books. the guide was very knowledgeable and did a great job even though the museum was crowded.
We had the most wonderful tour of the Rijksmuseum thanks to Kaleigh of Bespoke Amsterdam Experiences. She is incredibly knowledgeable about art history but pitched her tour perfectly for an eleven-year-old and his parents who are art fans rather than experts. Kaleigh was able to guide us through the crowds to see a wide variety of big hitters as well as some of her personal favourites pointing out things of interest with passion and humour at every turn. It was a total pleasure to spend a couple of hours in her company. I can’t recommend her private tour highly enough. Thank you Kaleigh for a fascinating and fun afternoon at the Rijksmuseum
I went to Amsterdam for the sole purpose of visiting the Rijksmuseum. I love art but am in no way an expert. I know next to nothing about the Dutch Masters so I thought the best way to see the Rijksmuseum would be with a private tour guide. Kayleigh is so knowledgeable about her craft and made learning fun and engaging. I learned about symbolism and now I can pick out tiny details and understand their meanings that previously I would have overlooked. Furthermore, Kayleigh has a great sense of humor so it felt less like a tour and more like looking at art with a friend for a couple hours. Don’t hesitate about booking this tour- it’s the best money I’ve ever spent!
Loved the art. And the museum was great. I expected a fun tour. Art can be fun...ours was not. Edgar seemed to be in a hurry and we missed so much of the museum, but we're not told why. We all felt seeing the museum in another fashion..maybe even on our own
Kaleigh was an excellent guide for our private museum tour. She provided educational and thoughtful information tailored to our knowledge. Overall a fun learning experience!
We went to Amsterdam in May to see the Vermeer exhibition and were unable to get tickets through the Rijksmuseum website since it was sold out. Thankfully, a woman named Catherine helped us see the exhibit because she had the few tickets available in this tour. Believe me it was impossible to get tickets. At first we booked our tickets separately on two separate days which meant we could not be together for this once in a lifetime exhibition. Catherine was so wonderful because somehow she made it happen a week before we left that we would able to see the show together. What a difference she made! Also, the tour of the Rijksmuseum was very interesting and enjoyable. I am an art teacher and I am very knowledgeable about art and found the experienced guide to be full of wonderful information about each artist, time period, their artwork and the museum itself. I also commend this company for their reliability- the tour went just as planned. We loved it!
First off the museum is spectacular!! Our guide Kaleigh was as well. Such knowledge and enthusiasm about the artwork and history. Everything explained so beautifully. We obtained such a true understanding of each piece. Would do this tour again and highly recommend.
Our family of 5 from the US toured the Rijksmuseum with Edgar before our self-guided visit to the Vermeer exhibit (as part of an Amsterdam Experiences package). Edgar was exceptional in navigating us through the museum in 90 minutes, hitting both the highlights in detail (his knowledge of Rembrandt was remarkable) as well as some hidden gems (both inside and outside the building). He had marvelous anecdotes and a keen sense of humor. It was a very memorable visit. Kathrine, who coordinated our tour through Amsterdam Experiences, was outstanding in trans-Atlantic communication and promptness as well as greeting us in-person outside the very crowded museum exterior to assure a timely meeting with Edgar. You cannot go wrong with this very reliable company!
Excellent tour of the main collection at the Rijksmuseum. Used it initially for tickets to the Vermeer Exhibition. But that was followed by 3 hours of excellent guiding by art historian Edgar Foley on behalf of the Amsterdam Experience group. Terrific knowledge and really fascinating in a small group tour.
Amazing tour of the Rijksmuseum following our visit to the Vermeer exhibition. Our guide Edgar was very knowledgeable and took us on our tour which gave us the background on Vermeer, the Dutch artists before him and those around and after. It definitely added to our understanding of Vermeer’s work. He was great at doing a private tour in a busy museum too.
We selected the exclusive tour that enabled us to see the Rijksmuseum and the coveted Vermeer expedition in Amsterdam. The entire experience was wonderful & Kayleigh was an outstanding tour guide! She kept it fun, quick, interesting & her knowledge was impeccable! It was well worth it and made our trip! I highly recommend!
We got tickets to the Vermeer exhibit through this company, which included an excellent Rijksmuseum tour led by Edgar. We were met outside the museum right on time by Katherine, who got us straight into the Vermeer exhibition It was just the two of us and 1 other person. We met Edgar in the museum cafe after we spent 2 hours going through Vermeer, as guides are not allowed in that exhibition. He tailored our 90 minute Rijksmuseum tour to our interests while showing us highlights of the collection, including a discussion of the Vermeer exhibit, what is being learned about Rembrandt during the current restoration of "The NIghtwatch", how events in Rembrandt's life influenced his art, and similarities and differences among Dutch artists through paintings on view. Edgar is very knowledgable and a really nice person. He also has a strong background in the city's more modern architecture, specifically the Amsterdam school, and key locations for activities of the Dutch Resistance during World War II, so we spent extra time with him on these subjects. Edgar made a wonderful day with great art even better through his depth of knowledge, his love of these subjects and his joy in sharing and discussing them. Very satisfied with this tour company, and highly recommend Edgar as a guide.
A self guided tour of (the almost impossible to get tickets) Vermeer exhibit and guided tour of Rijksmuseum. Rosa, our guide, made it an absolutely incredible experience. Amazing, enriching and expert background and insight into these important works of art delivered by a vivacious and excited student of the arts. Would definitely recommend this group. First Rate!!!
Fun, informative, and I am so thankful to have found a way to see the sold out Vermeer exhibit. Our guide was awesome!
TripAdvisor set the time to meet our guide at 2:00 PM . It was very cold & windy; his time was set at 2:30 PM He was an excellent guide, and we thoroughly enjoyed all the information he conveyed however, he told us we can see the Vermeer exhibit all evening, and Vermeer was closed for us for a special event .
Viator's products were easy to navigate & accurately described. Our personal guide was knowledgeable & their presentation entertaining. I plan to tell my travel agent about Viator's services & wouldn't hesitate to use this service again.
We had a great tour with our guide Kaleigh. She’s excellent. Tremendous knowledge of museum and lots of fun. A lot to cover at Rijksmuseum and this tour was the way to see all the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our tour guide, Anna, was very knowledgeable! We really liked that she spent more time in fewer galleries rather than trying to race us through the whole museum. We booked the tour because they were offering Vermeer tickets, and we are very glad we did. A lovely afternoon!
If i could give this woman a 10 star review i would. One of the funniest and best tours i ever had in my life. Its a must
Edgar was an excellent tour guide. Our entire group felt he provided an overview of Rijksmuseum and Dutch art. He made entry into the museum easy. For a large museum he made it easy to help navigate it easily. He did a great job of answering our various questions. We highly recommend Edgar and this tour.
Kayleigh was a fun, knowledgeable guide and I can’t imagine a better way to get around a huge museum than with her. The entire experience was great, they were accessible for questions beforehand and met us exactly on time before the tour. Highly recommend!
Kayleigh was fabulous. She was fun, Knowledgeable and just a pleasure to be with. The whole experience was just delightful, tour contact Catherine was accessible and both of them were very prompt.
Took this tour as part of a conference in the city. From the start everything was very well coordinated, from giving us tram tickets and getting a large group onto trams to getting us all into the museum. The organiser was very pleasant and friendly. Rozer my guide was fun and enthusiastic and knew a lot about the paintings she showed us. I felt I learnt a lot in a very short time. They even made sure we got to our restaurant on time too. Thank you. We will be back to this nice city.
We loved our guide, Kayleigh. She was very knowledgeable and thoughtful. We would recommend her highly!
We used Amsterdam Experiences to book this private tour of the Rijksmuseum as well as a Jewish Heritage tour and a private photography session. We had a very positive experience. I have 9-year old twin girls who love museums but know very little about the art of the Dutch Golden Age, and Kayleigh was amazing with them, we could not get the girls out of the museum they enjoyed so much! She also made it interesting for all of us, at a level we could all understand. We spent a lot of time in the main room with the most famous works, but also went to see some smaller works and the dollhouses which the kids loved. She also gave us advice of other things to see after the tour ended if we wanted to add more, as the kids wanted to keep going even after 3 hours with Kayleigh! I would definitely recommend this Rijksmuseum tour as well as the other tours through Amsterdam Experiences!
We are absolutely thrilled that Kaleigh was our guide on this tour. She is very knowledgeable as she is the Art History Major. Thus, we truly learned a lot during this tour. We appreciated all her insights and for making sure that we saw the main highlights of the Rijksmuseum. Even though two hours is not enough time to see everything, we do highly recommend this tour to anyone.
This was a great tour, great art, great history and the guide was clever, funny and well informed. Thank you Roser for guiding us! We would book you again when in Amsterdam.
I absolutely enjoyed the Tour. Our guide new a lot and told us remarkable stories, showed hidden treasures. While learning interesting details about history of the netherlands, we laughed a lot because our guide was a bright and sparkling storyteller.
We visited the Rijksmuseum with a group of friends. Our guide Roser served us with a solid portion of art history knowledge spiced up with trivia. She put it all in the context of Dutch heritage and mentality which, as an ex-pat living in Amsterdam, I have found the most interesting. Thank you, Roser and Amsterdam Experiences!
This tour was one of the best tours I have ever been on, anywhere in the world. Our tour guide was engaging and made the content attainable, interesting and a bit humorous. I recommend this tour to anyone who is specifically looking for a deeper connection to the art and history, a feeling of immersion and a bit of humor. It was especially lovely to feel absolutely comfortable in this setting with strangers who quickly felt like old friends.
