Great excursion to 4 beautiful villages. Learned how they make cheese and watched the craftsman make wooden shoes. Our guide Amna, was amazing.

Anma was awesome guide for our day. Very knowledgeable and fun to hang out with as we visited four places- we changed up one location because we visited on another tour and she was very accommodating.
We had an absolutely fantastic time on our Amsterdam towns tour, and a big part of that was thanks to Enrique. He did an amazing job from start to finish—knowledgeable, engaging, and incredibly friendly. He made everyone feel welcome and comfortable, and you could tell he genuinely cared about making the experience special for us. His insights and storytelling really brought the places to life. Highly recommend this tour, especially if you’re lucky enough to have Enrique as your guide!
Our tour guide, Tir, was fantastic! He tailored the day to what we wanted to see and showed us places that we wouldn’t have gotten to see. It was fun, informative, and made a perfect family day tour.
We did not go to Marken as we were told that the road was blocked and they don't take the detour. Very disappointed and a substitute destination was not offered. I learned from the locals at Volendam that the road had been blocked for at least a month so why sell me the tour and not want to take us to Marken because the detour was an inconvenience to the driver. Guide was not that informative and just mostly dropped us off at each stop which were just tourist traps. Didn't inform us much about each destination. Very disappointed. In reality we could have just hired a driver because that is what we got instead of a tour guide. In Volendam we texted the driver that we were finished and he didn't respond so I had to ask the restaurant that he wanted us to eat at which we chose not to, to get in touch with him. He claimed he didn't see our text. During the ride he didn't inform of us sights. Not happy!
It’s disappointed that the journey to Merken was cancelled on the last minute and we were only informed on the departure date at the meeting point. It could have been informed a few days before and we could reschedule our trip. The guide Amanda although is a bit green but she is ok and we have no complaints.
This is the best activity that I did during my visit to Amsterdam. The team gave us plenty of time in each of the stops to enjoy the towns and take photos/videos. Amanda our guide was very sweet and gave us a lots of interesting facts and information on all the places that we visited. I highly recommend Camaleon tours and this tour.
Our family enjoyed our tour so much through the beautiful villages. Enrique was so patient and flexible with our schedule. He was very knowledgeable . He gave us s a great restaurant recommendation for a most delicious lunch. Pleasant personality and highly recommend him.
We had such a great time on our private tour with Juan to Zaanse Schans, Edam, Volendam, and Marken. He was super friendly and really knowledgeable—he shared a lot of interesting info about each place without ever making it feel like a lecture. At Zaanse Schans, we loved checking out the clog-making demo and browsing the cute gift shop. Edam was such a charming little town—it felt so peaceful and picturesque, like something out of a storybook. Juan recommended a great spot for lunch in Volendam, which was one of the best meals we had. We also enjoyed learning about how the Dutch built and maintained their dykes—those illustrations were really cool. In Marken, Juan gave us a great explanation about the history of flooding in the Netherlands and how the country manages its water today. It gave us a whole new appreciation for how much thought and effort goes into keeping things running here. He spoke English really well and made sure to guide us along less crowded paths, which we really appreciated. Juan was also super patient and understanding with our group’s needs while keeping it well-paced. We’re really glad we had him as our guide—it made the day feel easy, informative, and fun. Highly recommend!
We had an incredible tour of Zaanse Schans, Edam, Volendam, and Marken with our guide, Enrique. His knowledge of the region’s history—especially how the Dutch transformed wetlands into farmland—was absolutely fascinating. He brought to life the story of these charming towns with insights into their culture, heritage, and the impressive engineering that made them possible. The visit to the windmills at Zaanse Schans was a highlight, offering a vivid glimpse into traditional Dutch industry. In Edam and Volendam, we experienced the unique character of each town, from cheese markets to quaint fishing villages. Marken was equally charming, with its colorful houses and peaceful atmosphere. Enrique’s passion for Dutch history and his engaging storytelling made this tour both educational and thoroughly enjoyable. We left with a deep appreciation for the ingenuity, resilience, and culture of the Dutch people. Highly recommend!
Enrique was fantastic. We had a wonderful day exploring towns outside of Amsterdam. Learned so many things we would have never known by just visiting ourselves. We enjoyed farms and sights and great spot for lunch! Highly recommend this tour. You will not be disappointed. Thank you for a fantastic day and experience Enrique!!
It's maybe one town too many for one day, but overall an excellent experience. Saw and learned a lot
Our driver was very flexible, friendly and helpful with suggestions. The small towns we visited near Zaanse Schans were fun and interesting. His contacts made it easy to get into places like a busy restaurant and cheese tasting.
We had the absolute best time with Enrique. He was so knowledgeable and was willing to answer all of our questions. I really liked that we were not with a big group and having to wait for everyone. We were able to spend as much time as we wanted at each place. It was definitely worth it to do the private tour. I would do this tour again, anytime!
Tirso was a fabulous and engaging guide. Very prompt and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this private tour.
This is the Best way see the outskirts of Amsterdam. Adrian was the perfect guide with plenty of knowledge and attentions. We went through every small town in the tour in a relaxed way. Definitely this was a highlight.
Fascinating trip. Loved the windmills but Zaanse Schans definitely is designed for tourists. Still a necessary part of the day trip for sure. Best part was seeing the quiet towns of Edam, Volendam and Marken. Wooden shoe making, cheese making. Best fish and chips lunch we have ever had in Volendam. Fantastic guide, Enrique. Very pleasant, knowledgeable and eager to share history and culture. We loved him. Highly recommended tour.
We had an amazing day seeing working windmills, wooden shoe making and cheese making. The visits to Edam, Volendam and Marken were so charming. Most of all the guide, Enrique, was engaging, knowledgeable and very kind. His ability to answer all our questions about Dutch history, geography, politics and religion in a manner that was both easy to understand and filled with insight was memorable. We will never forget our trip to the Netherlands and our excellent guide Enrique.
We had a great experience with our guide, Enrique. He went over and above to make our visits to Zaanse Schans, Edam, Volendam and Marken interesting and enjoyable. Thank you Enrique!
Might be the best tour we’ve taken. The perfect pace over the course of about 8 hours. We saw so much and it was all gorgeous. Our guide was extremely friendly and knowledgeable!!
We had a fantastic time with Juan exploring the different suburbs of the Netherlands. Juan was knowledgeable of the area, shared different fun facts, information and stories with us throughout the tour. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Amsterdam or the Netherlands.
We were extremely happy with our guide and driver, Juan. He was very cheerful, guided us to many wonderful places of interest, narrated the historical info of various towns, recommended a mouth watering restaurant. Basically, the whole journey was fabulous, enjoyable and was very well organised by Juan. We highly recommend to travel with Juan and this tour company.
We had a little snafu with the communication within the tour operators system, but once it was resolved, we had such a wonderful time! Henry, our guide had so much information about the places we went and was especially tolerant and engaging with my 8 yr. old grandaughter who loved him!
Tirso was outstanding! He accommodated mobility challenges with grace, provided personal recommendations at each stop and customized the experience to align with our priorities for the day. I HIGHLY recommend this private tour.
It was really amazing. The information and history really helps to better understand the local environment and why and how the culture was established.
Sergio made this trip an outstanding experience, right on time, perfect knowledge of the places we visit and a remarkable and profesional service.
Enrique was an awesome guide. very knowledgeable and pleasant. we loved strolling through the small villages
It was a perfect day of touring with Juan! He did a great job of showing us the signts and providing history of the area. The time in Zaanse Schans was amazing. We were able to get there before alot of the bigger bus tours and crowds to make it more enjoyable. It was also great to see the surrounding areas including Edam and Volendam. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a day trip from Amsterdam.
Another awesome tour with Enrique. It’s like spending the day with an old friend showing you the Dutch countryside. Learned just the right amount about Dutch history and saw so many iconic sites. Thank you again - this was our second tour with you we’ll do another when we’re back.
Amazing tour organized by Camaleon tours.. Our excellent guide Amna and excellent driver made our day. Amna was very professional, very knowledgeable, very polite and had great sense of humor. We were very happy with this tour and can recommend it to everyone.
This wasn't a private tour; however, the large group tour was not selectable from the drop-down menu. What we liked: The guide was friendly and welcoming and quite knowledgeable The variety of the locations was excellent The coach was comfortable and air conditioned (although the toilet was not open, which was problematic) The cheese shop: delicious cheese The walk through Edam: beautiful town and the guide gave some terrific insight into Dutch life What could have improved: The access to toilets: the confirmation email should have explained that there were no toilets accessible at the meeting point, nor on the coach and that at the first stop, customers needed to have exact change (50c) to use the toilet. Access to toilets should have been explained at the start of the trip; though the guide did mention it after the first stop and gave people guidance on where they could use the toilet (and for free). The last stop Zaanse Schans could/should have been first - by late afternoon it was inundated with tourists and too crowded. Also very expensive, especially to use the toilet (1 Euro). SO much walking. This should have been included in the trip description. More than 8km of walking throughout the day which for those with mobility issues became problematic. This was especially noticeable in Volendam where we were dropped off a 5 min walk from the town, but picked up a 22 min walk from the town.
I did the trip lead by Bea and I really like the way she cares about us and did her best to explain everything. Places were awesome, and food as well. I really recommend!
My tour guide was Ana, and she did a marvelous job! We learned about the history and local traditions of each place, and she also gave recommendations for what to do in our free time. In Zaanse Schans, I took her advice and went inside the Kat, and the machinery inside the windmill was incredible. Edam cheese factory was a short visit, but the cheese tasting was 10/10. Volendam is a beautiful fishing town, and we had the best Kibbeling (again, courtesy of Ana). I opted for the ferry trip (10 euros more), but it was well worth it. Overall, it was GREAT value and well organized. We were also lucky to have a group of cooperative tourists, and no one was late. Ana got the group together really well. If you sign up for the tour and are ready to just have a good time in the countryside, you will not be disappointed
Your guide never showed up and Viator did not responded to our request for assistance or apologized What an unprofessional operation
We had a lovely day out, and our guide was a nice fellow. We wound up not doing most of the touristy things, and instead went to see Hoorn via the dikes up north, which we loved. It was a lot of time in the car, which wasn't optimal, but we were certainly glad to avert the large crowds in some of the other smaller towns. I liked that we could personalize the tour and do our own thing.
Our guide Enrique was enthusiastic and super informative. He was also super patient with my small children. He took us to all the right places and showed us the greatest spots.
Our family had a great time together with Juan, and enjoyed his humor mixed with knowledge to ensure all age groups had fun. Got to see the beautiful windmills, learn about the dikes throughout the Netherlands, and the rich culture in the area. Thank you Juan for an amazing time! Highly recommend this tour for your family.
The guide did not explain the tours properly, for instance when we woukd leave certain places and meeting points. She didn't wait for us, we got lost, we didn't enjoy of the tourist attractions, we only had 1 hour in Volendam (where it was 2 hours), we weren't warned about the difficulties and times involved in walking with a baby stroller, it was difficult to keep up with the fast and intense pace of the tours. Everything would have been better if there were just 3 cities to visit slowly instead of rushing through 4. I do not recommend the tour for elderly people and families with babies and children.
Juan was our guide and he was very good at leading the group. Well planned trip and very well explained about Netherlands history and the places we visited . Highly recommend
Fantastic tour, great opportunity to see and experience the countryside, visit the windmills and learn about the manufacturing of cheese and tasting Very helpful and informative guide (Bianca) and friendly driver (Jack )😊
We thoroughly enjoy Zaanse Schans and the windmills. We walked all over the property and went into the lumber mill while in operation. Very interesting to learn so much about the windmills. We walked through Edam, had lunch in Volendam and strolled through Marken. We were quite surprised at how much walking we had signed up for. 22,000 steps each of us! You might want to caution others before they book this tour about the amount of walking. We are elderly, but very mobile so were able to manage. Others might not be so able.
Raphael was a great guide lots of information We enjoyed the tour and was great value. Would definitely recommend this tour
We loved the small town of voldendam and the fresh fish lunch! Zaanse Schanse was nice but very crowded. Our guide was knowledgeable and catered to our needs nicely. I would recommend some sort of mic system in the van, as those in the back could not hear.
Absolutely outstanding tour with our guide, Angela! Loved every one of the sites we visited and really enjoyed everything about Angela - she was fun, friendly, great explanations, and suggestions for further sight-seeing. Just an absolutely unforgettable day!!
It was a full day excursion and we had a great day with Eduardo. He was knowledgeable and a pleasant person to spend the day with. I would highly recommend this day trip from Amsterdam.
We could not find the meeting point and called 26 times to check with them to no avail. Result: MISSED TOUR, WASTED TIME AND MONEY. They wouldn't even refund us and never answered our messages ever since. Apparently this is a recurring issue with them, as the other tour guides there implied on the sence. Absolutely do not recommend.
My experience on the private tour to Zaanse Schans, Edam, Volendam, and Marken was absolutely fantastic. The views were breathtaking, and the tour itself was incredibly enriching. Exploring these picturesque destinations with a private guide added a personal touch that made the journey even more memorable. From the iconic windmills of Zaanse Schans to the charming streets of Edam, Volendam, and Marken, every moment was filled with wonder and beauty. I highly recommend this tour to anyone seeking an unforgettable exploration of the Netherlands' rich cultural heritage and natural landscapes.
We took the tour in march, our tour guide, Wybe was both informative and hilarious. We explained to us with so much pleasure and so kindly, you can really see he enjoyed it. We explained to us all the small things, even things that you couldn't notice if it wasn't for him. If the opportunity appears, we will take another tour with him, maybe somewhere else.
I didn't have many expectations given the cheap price but it was actually an extraordinary experience. The guide Carle (sorry if the name is not correct), incredible energy and very, very nice. She let us know that she was pregnant and it was so nice to let us know a part of her life. She gave us so much information about everything. I returned home very tired but very enthusiastic. Thank you I will take back some wonderful memories.
The places we visit was interesting, but the English from the tour guide wasn't great, had a hard time to follow. Besides that, they sold us on every time we were on the bus, a restaurant to buy the food in advance but we still had to wait a lot of time and couldn't check the location.
