We had a lovely afternoon with Fusina in her canal home. Planned this for arrival day after all night flight. Fusina was warm, welcoming and a pleasure. She explained much of Dutch culture and cooking. Then we made apple pancakes and bacon pancakes. She served us Dutch wine. Experience was exceptional. She made us feel like treasured guests. Just a great local experience we all enjoyed very very much. We would happily recommend this cooking class to all. It was fun and comfortable. What a great experience.

Itinerary
This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Meet your host Fusina at her canal home and join her in her cozy kitchen to learn to cook and flip pannenkoeken or pancakes, a very simple but typical Dutch meal. You can create savory pancakes with bacon (Dutch pancetta) as well as sweet pancakes with local apples. Your hands-on pancake cooking class during which you will learn to make a savory and sweet Dutch pancake from scratch will last about an hour and a half. Enjoy learning about the techniques involved in creating this dish before you sit down with Fusina at her kitchen table to enjoy a basic but authentic Dutch meal of savory and sweet pancakes. Your meal will include a savory pancake, a traditional Dutch treat and a sweet pancake for dessert. Immerse yourself in local Dutch culture as Fusina shares stories about herself, her family and the Netherlands during this unique Dutch culinary experience. Canal homes are a typical example of 17th Century Dutch architecture - charming apartments overlooking the canal, they are slim, high and deep so please expect a narrow kitchen.

What a great experience with Fusina! I learned so much about living in Amsterdam and the local foods. She was a patient teacher and encouraged me to try flipping my pancake when I was hesitant. Best of all the results were delicious!
Fusina was a delightful host and teacher. I was solo, but I had an amazing time. She was welcoming into her home, which was beautiful and very comfortable. She chatted and gave me insights into Dutch life and history of the city. She had snacks of cheese and cake, which she made from a family recipe. We made two kinds of traditional pancakes. She instructed me on how to do it all. She offered wine and drinks and was a great host to provide all of this for this booking. Highly recommend. She even gave suggestions for local spots to visit that were not the touristy type of places. .
Our history was delightful. She took time to share about herself and her passion for organic and sustainable food sources. She introduced us to other Dutch delights as well.
What a wonderful opportunity to be part of a Dutch home meal for a couple hours. The host was kind, confident and thorough in her training. It was also nice to learn about Dutch history and culture from a native. I even went to the store to buy supplies to take home and recreate the appetizer. I would recommend this experience.
Loved this private cooking class! I learned a lot about local cuisine and sustainability in the Netherlands, plus the food was great!
Fusina is not warm and inviting. Quite the opposite. I was more concerned with the cleanliness of her kitchen. No one was reminded to wash their hands before handling the ingredients or food. I did and I was handed a dish towel from the kitchen rack. How many people have used this before me. Where are the paper towels? The pitcher and glasses for water were etched badly due to hard water or were they dirty? Not inviting . I would never bring children to her home. This experience was a waste of money. Go someplace else .
We had a wonderful time cooking with Fusina in her beautiful canal house. She was warm, kind, and a thoughtful host. She even surprised us with some unexpected treats. Our group really enjoyed making Dutch style pancakes and having an authentic experience. Don’t wait- just book it!
This is a true dutch experience. I would recommend for any age group. Pancakes were outstanding, all fresh ingredients.
It was very nice!! Great food, wine , host. A++++
unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience from start to finish. The atmosphere felt very stiff and unwelcoming! We were hoping for a fun, welcoming experience where kid(s)would feel excited to participate, but that wasn’t the case. There was little effort made! Overall, it didn’t feel authentic or welcoming, and that really took away from what should have been a pleasant experience.
Witnessed a member of staff (Emma) complaining about a sore toe. She then sat down in the dinig area, took her sock off and picked at her toe. After that she replaced her sock and shoe and proceeded to deal with the clean knives and forks for the tables without washing her hands. This is totally unhygienic and unprofessional. I am a regular here. Not sure for how long now.
My daughter (14) and I had a lovely morning with Fusina making pancakes. She warmly welcomed us into her cozy home. We had a great time learning to make Dutch pancakes - one with caramelized apples and the other with crisp bacon. We enjoyed learning about Dutch culture, customs and food. Fusina also prepared other delicious traditional foods for us to try. We would highly recommend this experience.
We loved our morning baking and flipping Dutch pancakes with Fusina in her beautiful canal house! Fusina is a lovely host!
Superb experience! Fusina was so welcoming and hospitable. I really enjoyed visiting with her & making the pancakes. Her home is in a very convenient & easy to find location, and has an amazing view of the canal. I learned so much from her & am now inspired to look for experiences like this everywhere I go.
It is always so wonderful to meet a local and be welcomed into their home for an experience like this - to learn about the culture and the food and the people...we love to do this early on in the trip so that we actually feel more local ourselves as we continue in our holiday. Fusina gave us some fabulous restaurant recommendations for the remainder of our time in Amsterdam as well!
Fusina was a generous host! She taught us how to make Dutch apple pancakes and bacon pancakes. In addition, she provided us with homemade apple bars, Dutch cheeses and herring. Fusina was kind and gave us an insight into life in The Netherlands, as well as many great recommendations for the rest of our trip!
We really learned a lot in this class. It’s a very simple recipe that anyone can do but the history and hands on learning process is so valuable. She also had several cheeses, homemade apple pie, and herring for us to try. I also really loved how she explained the use of ingredients and focused on healthy foods.
Fusina welcomed us into her beautiful home over the canal. She was a patient teacher, letting us measure the pancake ingredients and encouraging us to flip the pan in the traditional way! We enjoyed learning about everyday life, as well as special traditions in Amsterdam, capped off by sips of delicious wine after eating our creations!
Great experience. The host is super friendly and entertaining. Good conversation and great teacher for sweet and salty pancakes.
The class was educational and the bacon pancakes were our favorite. We learned about some more of the Amsterdam history as well.
It was a wonderful experience, it was very good. Learned a lot about Dutch life. I would recommend it.
An excellent option for those who enjoy international cuisine… it’s something different, and Mrs. Fusina is very friendly, pleasant, and highly knowledgeable in traditional Dutch cooking. I definitely recommend her!
My son and I did this experience and had the best time. The host was amazing and taught us so much about the Netherlands food and traditions. It definitely is a must do experience if your visit the Netherlands.
Our host, Fusina, shared her home with us and her grandmother's recipe. She was very warm and friendly and we felt so comfortable. It was a very personal experience and the pancakes were yummy!! Thank you, Fusina!
What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon learning about Dutch food, agricultural products and culture! We made sweet & savory pancake versions and were able to try other Dutch foods as snacks. Our hostess made us feel welcome and comfortable. The location of her home in the historic district could not have been better.
Fusina is wonderful, patient and concise with instructions on making the perfect apple and bacon pancake. She exudes high level of professionalism and subject matter expert when it comes to source and quality of local food ingredients. I highly recommend potential customers to book this cooking class with Fusina.
We had a great time at this class. The location was great, looking over the canal. We made apple and bacon pancakes. I even learned how to flip it without dropping the pancake. We enjoyed great local wine, fantastic local cheese, and of course delicious pancakes. I would definitely do this again!
We had a lovely time with Fusina making Dutch pancakes and chatting about all sorts of things! It's easy to tell how much she loves local food and wants to share it with others. She also communicated promptly and went out of her way to accommodate my specific needs, which was greatly appreciated. I would wholeheartedly recommend the experience to others!
A must do in Amsterdam! Spending time with Fusina was great. She told us so much about the people of Amsterdam and the culture! Tasted traditional food and drink and learned how to make the pancakes! Great experience and highly recommend!!
I had taken this lesson last year and enjoyed it so much that I brought my grandchildren with me on this year's trip. We had a wonderful, memorable time, and now the kids make the morning pancakes!
Whenever we go to different places, we like to take a cooking class to get a hands on experience with the local cuisine. Our kids enjoy cooking and we find it helps them connect with the local culture. This time, we were in Amsterdam and searched for a class to learn to make Dutch Pancakes. We spent almost €275 for a family of four (two adults and two kids – ages 9 and 11) on this local activity in the center of Amsterdam. The value for us was not there. I would not recommend this “Pancake Making Class” to anyone that actually wants to learn to make pancakes. It was not a cooking class, it was not even a get involved and do some cooking. My wife and I basically sat at a table drinking tea while the two kids helped Fusina make three pancakes. We expected to get our hands dirty with food and cook. That did not happen. Her kitchen is not set up to host a cooking class. We’ve done several cooking classes both at home and abroad and we’ve always had a space for each person with their own ingredients and utensils to make the dishes. We expected that we were each (especially for the price) making a sweet and savory pancake, not making 1 of each total and if my kids hadn’t begged to make a second savory pancake, I’m pretty sure it would have ended with the two pancakes – the dutch pancakes are thin, somewhat like crepes with the ‘filling’ cooked into the layer instead of being wrapped in the pancake after cooking. We were offered some local delicacies such as cheese and Dutch apple pie, but we were expecting a hands on experience and to enjoy the food that we all worked to prepare. The hostess did not eat anything, just stared at us and asked strange questions. Honestly, it felt like we had paid to sit around a table and entertain the host – a job at which we were abysmal failures according to her review (see below). “The guests were Americans living in Ireland. The 11 year old son broke one of my Delft blue plates. It was a bit strange experience with the kids shoes on my couch, 4 mobile phones on the table, very American way of having a conversation, or trying to have one. The father asked if he could pay for the plate, but I said it was fine. He did not leave a tip, which I would have done. Just wanted to let you know what happened.” Yes, we are American, but what does that have to do with anything? Honestly, I did not feel comfortable with Fusina telling us how she does not like people from Belgium and based on her review of us, she does not like Americans either. Yes, my son did break a plate, only after he tripped over a leg of a chair and fell in a very small kitchen area. We offered to pay for the plate but Fusina refused. As for the 4 mobile phones on the table, yes they were there. My daughter was taking notes on how to cook the pancakes, noting down the recipe and what she needed to do to make them again (something our other cooking classes didn’t need because we were provided copies of the recipes to take home), my wife was taking pictures of the kids helping Fusina make the pancakes and well, I was just bored as my expectations were to cook, not sit, eat snacks and drink tea for €275. As for leaving a tip, this one shocked me the most as in the original listing gratuities were listed as included in the price of the experience. See photos attached. On top of all that, the description that was listed on the Viator website was not correct. It stated the following: Experience the city like a local as you visit an organic grocery store with your host to pick up ingredients, then get hands-on practice mixing, cooking, and flipping the Dutch delicacy, before sitting down together to enjoy your included pancake lunch. Your hands-on pancake cooking class during which you will learn to make a savory and sweet Dutch pancake from scratch will last about an hour and a half. We did not experience an organic grocery store or pick up ingredients, we did not leave her house, we sat at the table listening to her tell us how she goes out to find locally supplied food. And as mentioned, there was no hands on pancake cooking class for the adults, the kids did help Fusina make the pancakes, but categorizing this as a cooking class is taking liberties. She did mention a few things about the area she lived in, but we didn’t experience the city as a local. The description also included the following: Gain insider insight, tips, and recommendations from your local host. The only tip we received was don’t drive a car around Amsterdam.
This was the best experience! The food was incredible and it was fun learning about more about typical dutch dishes! I had the best time flipping the dutch pancakes as well! Fusina was a very warm and welcoming host which made the experience even better! I will be booking this class again next time I am in Amsterdam!
Fusina is an absolute sweetheart! The food was also delicious! Overall an amazing experience & would definitely do again
Fantastic experiences. Would highly recommend, Fusina was engaging and made us feel welcome. I wish we had more time to book her food tour, next time.
Fusina was a gracious host who taught us to make both savory & sweet Dutch pancakes that we not only loved but will make at home.
Fusina is wonderful! The experience was great. It was so nice and warm to be in her lovely kitchen, too. The pancakes turned out very good and I can’t wait to make them back home!
What a wonderful experience - I was celebrating my birthday with my teenage daughter who has learning disability. The host was very understanding even when the first pancake she flipped did a triple twist and ended up on the floor. The video to You’ve been framed will easily cover the costs - well worth the experience next to the canal.
Fantastic experience! Make sure you arrive hungry! We were looking for something unique and we love food—we could not have chosen a better experience. We were a little nervous as we tend to be shy, but Fusina is an amazing hostess and immediately made us feel right at home. We loved seeing her home and the “real” Amsterdam experience. It was so much more than just learning to make Dutch pancakes (but they were so good and so much fun to make!) Fusina is a wealth of information on all things local and had multiple bites for us to try—including herring! Not something I would have ever tried on my own, but I’m glad I did and I did like it. She truly opens her home and shares her experiences and love of food and local Amsterdam with you. Our friends that went home early were very jealous of our experience. I highly recommend and want to go back to do her market tour!
Lovely person to learn about Amsterdam & see how a native lives but this is not a foodie experience.
My wife and I had a delightful visit with Fusina. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and a wonderful cook and teacher. Recommend this activity highly.
we had a great evening sharing dinner with Fusina in her home! Fusina shared many Dutch traditional foods and shared her experience growing up in the Netherlands! We enjoyed our dinner with her!
This was an amazing experience! The host was very welcoming and the pancakes were delicious and easy to make.
What a great experience My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment Our hostess was warm and welcoming as well as very knowledgeable
This is a must do when you are in Amsterdam. The host is absolutely wonderful. I love how she welcomed me to her beautiful home, it was wonderful experience.
Well worth the couple of hours we spent doing this whilst in Amsterdam. Fusina is so friendly and knowledgeable as we made (and ate!) pancakes and talked about life and culture in Amsterdam. Something quite different to walking around and doing the normal tourist things, but we've definitely taken away lovely memories.
Loved the experience with Fussina going to the market and then to her home for a lovely luncheon. I will highly recommend the tour.
Wow what an incredible hostess. So knowledgeable of the consumer markers in Amsterdam. I love the move to fresher, and smaller using local produce and dairy. Although I did not toss my pancake, it was amazing and so very delicious. Thank you for the relaxed time we spent
We enjoyed our visit with Fusina, and especially the chance to learn from her about Dutch culture, food, and holiday traditions. We knew ahead of time that the class would be simple, as we were just making pancakes, but we had a good time making (and flipping) them and thought they made a delicious lunch. Fusina also provided some appetizers: herring with pickles and onion, Dutch cheeses with appelstroop, and a salad with Dutch shrimp, all tasty. The rainy weather cleared just as we arrived at her place, so she took us for a walk to a wonderful cheese shop (where we sampled some local cheeses) and two local markets (one supermarket and one organic market), which were all interesting. We also appreciated the chance to see Fusina's beautiful canal apartment, as we had been wondering what these houses were like inside.
This was such fun. Fusina is a great host, and it was a true pleasure to spend time with her in her home, make Dutch pancakes - even flip them! and then enjoy eating them. This is a fun thing to do if you enjoy meeting locals, if you enjoy the kitchen and foods, and if you want to shake up your day! Great for any age and even kids. Thank you Fusina!!!
