Great tour guide but tour seemed unorganized. Ben was very informative and blended historical information with humor. We covered the Amsterdam Red Light area but the tasting part of the tour never really materialized. We had to suggest the one stop we made to taste local food.

The smallest house of Amsterdam was built around the 1700s and was first used as storage place for the VOC trading company. Later on people started living in the house for a very long time.
The area is a part of the Red Light District, tob e specific, part of the Old Town area. So this is the oldest part of the city that is why there is a lot of history as well.
Pub The Ape, also known as Int Aepjen in Dutch. Built around 1540 and one out of two remaining wooden buildings left in Amsterdam. Which is very special as there was a big fire in 1452 and after that point the government decided that buildings should have brick facades.

Our tour guide Andrea was fabulous and made it feel like we were hanging out with a friend. We really enjoyed the history and she was extremely knowledgeable.
Andrea did a wonderful job of showing us the sights and food of Amsterdam. She explained the history and culture of the Red Light District and the area surrounding it. She introduced us to food we wouldn't have known to try. She was very informative and fun to be with.
Andrea took my wife and I on a wonderful tour. We were the only ones on the tour and Andrea treated us wonderful. She let us do whatever we wanted. This was not just a typical Red-light District tour. We learned so much local history and tried several types of food. I would recommend this tour to anyone.
Great and informative experience with Andrea
Our guide was fantastic and really knew his stuff
Great tour of this diversified area with long standing history . Andrea was a fabulous tour guide. Very knowledgeable.
Scarlet was well versed and gave insight to all the secrets of the district.
Our guide took time to get to know us and understand our expectations prior to taking us on the tour.
Kevin did a great job telling us about the red light district and a little about the people living in the red light area
Really good tour, very informative friendly and at the right pace . Andrea was a really good guide and we really appreciate the time she took to really explain things to us.
Rich and awesome experience the whole way through! Andrea was fantastic knowledgeable and very kind. All our questions were answered with poise.
Andrea was our amazing, informative, wonderful guide. She provided a very complete history of the red light district as well as of the city of Amsterdam. Pointed out key buildings and explained events that have shaped the city today. She provided a matter-of-fact descriptions of the historic and current laws regarding the red light district. Stops for pancakes, jenever, croquettes and stroopwaffles added appreciation for the area.
While the tour guide gave an interesting tour, he was reluctant to let us have any food. He offered us only 2 instead of the 3 selections advertised and asked us to share .. the 2 options in themselves were subpar … a boring stroopwaffle and a fast-food South American wrap. Was he looking to pocket the allotted cash? Not sure. Pretty disappointing as we’ve been on terrific secret food tours before with guides taking us to hidden jewel restaurants for fantastic treats.
This was an excellent tour and worth every dollar spent. Robin was our tour guide and he was exceptional. I highly recommend this tour. The 2 hours flew by. We liked that this tour was just our private group. If we visit Amsterdam again, we plan to book another tour with Robin. Can’t speak more highly of him.
Very informative, guide was knowledgeable about the area and the history. Was a littlie taken back that a child care center next to the brothel.
We booked multiple tours while visiting Amsterdam and this tour was our favorite. Aarre was entertaining and knew all the great food spots. He took us off the beaten path and we got to try some unexpected treats. We thoroughly enjoyed touring with him and highly recommend this tour!
This was a fantastic one on one tour with lots of history about the area and explanation about the red light district with a little traditional dutch food treats along the way.
Our tour with Aarre was great! He struck the perfect balance between educational and fun. He shared interesting facts we wouldn’t have learned otherwise, along with lighthearted stories and conversation that made the tour really enjoyable. So lunch fun, highly recommend!
Aarre was the best. He's very knowledgeable in the area's history. It was like hanging out with a friend. Highly recommend his tour.
Our personalized tour with Aarre was exactly what we ordered! We loved viewing the city of Amsterdam thru the eyes of a local and enjoyed some of the tasty Dutch foods. Our guide was both informative and entertaining - perfect for our group. We would recommend Aarre for our friends and family who plan on using Viator to see this magnificent city.
This was truly one of our favorite tours. Aarre’s deep knowledge of the area, combined with his warm and charming personality, made the experience unforgettable. As a group, we all agreed—he was our favorite guide.”
Horrible experience. The weather had high winds and tain and they expected me to subject myself to those unpleasant conditions. Don’t waist your money or time with this tour - the tour guides are farmed out by a business and that business is beyond horrible.
We had a great tour! So much information we never knew. Great having a few food stops was a great little extra. Definitely recommend Thank you Catherine
A lovely experience! We thoroughly enjoyed our walking tour of the Amsterdam Red Light District. A great lesson on Amsterdam history and culture. Just a perfect couple of hours with a very knowledgeable and pleasant tour guide!
We had a lovely time at the Clayton Hotel. The room was a nice size, the private balcony was small but had a wonderful view. The hotel staff was very helpful and pleasant. The hotel is in a central location close to everything we wanted to see. I absolutely loved the outdoor restaurant and cafe overlooking the fountain. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Great guide fantastic personality and lots of fun and yummy food! Stopped at some local food spots that were authentic and knew our guide well.
Very informative tour, and Andrea has so many details! The food samples are also good, but the wealth of history of the district is the real reason to do this tpur.
We had a great time on this tour! Catherine was an amazing guide — incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and personable. She gave us a thoughtful and respectful history of Amsterdam and the Red Light District, with stories and context that really brought the area to life. While the experience is marketed as a food tour, it’s more of a light tasting of three local favorites. Definitely don’t come expecting a full meal. We read reviews beforehand and ate before the tour, so we weren’t disappointed — just something to keep in mind. Overall, a unique and well-guided experience. Catherine really made it worthwhile!
This tour was the perfect mix of culture, history, and amazing food. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the Red Light District — sharing stories, history, and context that gave us a totally new perspective on the area. What made it even better? She tailored the food stops to exactly what we wanted. We skipped a few standard spots to try things that matched our tastes, and it felt super personal and relaxed. A must-do if you want to experience the Red Light District in a meaningful (and tasty!) way.
Fascinating and eye-opening! Wasn’t sure exactly what to expect on this tour but it was great! Andrea wove together the perfect combination of the history of the area going back to the 1400’s (loved the “Monkey Bar” story!) with delicious local specialities tasting and of course the unique area that is the “Red Light District”! She explained how the area came to be, the way the women are regulated and protected, and the fact that it is also a normal residential neighborhood with regular people living there. Staying on the other side of Amsterdam at the Ambassade Hotel in a much higher end area, we would had never experienced this unique area without Andrea’s tour.
Great overview of Amsterdam in general and the red light district in particular. Very flexible, was able to answer all my questions.
Our guide Andrea was awesome! She was able to answer all of our questions. We learned so much and had a great time. The food was amazing. I would highly recommend!
Interesting tour, gave insight into the working ladies, and other interesting facts about Amsterdam red light area. The food was also great
Wry informative! We learned so much about the history of Amsterdam and the RLD. The food was really great too.
The foods were amazing and I learned so much about Amsterdam and its culture. The city was unlike any other I have ever visited!
Good information. But don’t expect much in terms of food. We shared 3 stroopwaffles between 7 people and two turnover things with 7 people and did not get the third item. Disappointing as the food tour was what we were looking for
This was an excellent tour. We learned quite a lot about the history of Amsterdam, the red light distract and social/cultural perspectives.
Great tour with Andrea, she knew the history, laws, and culture of the district and was quick to point out unique cafes and historical bars in and around the area. The tastings were delicious - especially the pastry shop.
We had an amazing experience! Arie was great fun and we stopped at delicious places to sample various foods. He was funny and knowledgeable and made sure we got a good overview of everything from architecture, history and how the red light district works. The whole evening was top notch! Highly recommend it!
Very informative tour. We had a wonderful guide and learned a lot about Amsterdam. Katharine knew all the spots to take us. 100% recommend
My trip was already amazing but this tour must have been the highlight of my short stay in Amsterdam. Not only did I learn and see so many interesting things about the city but I got to taste some real Dutch foods and they were delicious:). Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city!
We met Catherine at the meeting place as planned. She was articulate, knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend two hours with. The tour was informative and the food was all fun. The food tour was casual food and all fun. We started with mulled spice wine. Gluhwein. Then we had a potatoe and meat krokett from an automat. Fried. Yum. Followed by Puffercheese, And a waffle. The final food was French fries with mayonnaise. Everything was delicious! Learning about the red light district and the history of Amsterdam was interesting and informative. This was a great way to start our stay. Highly recommend!!!
Kevin was a wonderful guide. Kind, informative and personable. We requested an easy pace due to a mobility issue and he was great. We sampled Surinamese cooking and a taste at FEBO. I would highly recommend.
The guide was excellent, taking us through the district's rich history and gave us a great look at its culture. We learned a lot from the stories our guide told us and it was a very interesting tour with some great food stops along the way!
Great tour with Kevin, who provided helpful and entertaining commentary. We went mid-afternoon, so the Red Light District wasn’t yet in full swing and we loved every minute. Thanks.
This was the most disappointing Viator I have ever booked. It was booked for eight people And as noted it was to include A food tour/tasting I expected when the guide showed up he would explain exactly how the two hours would work where we would be stopping for a tasting what it would be And how it would be handled at the locations where we stopped In Addition, I expected him to be prepared for a group of eight realizing we were out in public And in order for eight people to hear him he would have to speak up and/or stop more often than he did to assure, we could hear him He did not have a Vox or quiet speaker system we could not hear him. He walked way ahead and only spoke to whatever person was the closest to him. I finally inquired about the tasting and he asked us where we wanted to go. When I told him we had no idea, he made a few random suggestions, indicating he would take us there not that he would be explaining where we were stopping why he recommended it and what was included. We did not want to put ourselves in an uncomfortable situation since we had no idea how this was going to be handled when we arrived. Overall, he was a thoughtful young man probably doing the best he could And he did provide some information about Amsterdam overall, And details about how the red light district actually operates. We just felt it was very disconnected fragmented and he was far from being a polished professional guide We ended the tour early because we seem to be just wandering without any indication where we would be going next. I would not recommend this tour. None of our group enjoyed the experience or felt it was worth what we paid.
It was 👍 ce to have a very private tour and learn about life in Amsterdam. Aaron was excellent and would recommend him for any future tours.
Aaree was a fabulous and knowledgeable guide. We learnt so much and went places we never would have known about. Highly recommend.very intertour
Aarre Brenton was a great tour guide giving us a history lesson on the area, sampling new foods and a complete tour of the area.
