My partner (now 'fiancée') and I had a fantastic experience! We were able to experience the Amsterdam light festival, and thoroughly enjoyed being guided through the city in tranquility. Thank you again!

Great tour through the prettiest part of Amsterdam. The host was relaxed and enthusiastic, he knew a lot about both the area and about the art pieces. The cushions were heated and there were blankets so even in the cold and rain we were warm and very cosy. He put the best Dutch snacks on the table: stroopwafels, Dutch cheese amongst other things. The boat is small and quiet so the setting was really intimate, way more romantic then the big noisy boats we saw on the way. Very good pick!
Thank you Rocco, really enjoyed this trip over Christmas. You made us feel very much at home on your boat and the lights were special.
Very relaxing experience, great guide, very informative. The boat was just perfect for our group of 7, small enough to be cosy, big enought to have comortable space. Overall super experience.
We did the Amsterdam Light Tour with family and friends. The heated seats were very comfortable. Rocco moves the boat (electric and noiseless!) very smoothly through the canals. He tunes in very well to the guests when he tells his story. And he ensures that all guests, whether they are seated on the left or right, can clearly see the light objects.
Thank you for making our special moment so magical! Knew exactly what to do and when :) Love, Aaron & Jess
One thing that I want to say Infront the whole world is that Rocco and his Romantic Tour Amsterdam is the most immaculate, full of passion and professionalism, true to his love and passion of providing an unforgettable experience. I proposed to the love of my life in his boat, and even though I was stressed about organising it, Rocco and his service went above and beyond to match what I wanted. Let me say this - it was even better than planned. Rocco, you deserve everything and more. My recommendation goes out to everyone !!! If you're going Amsterdam - Rocco is your man for the greatest experience you'll ever have!!!! All the Love 💖 Kris - Cyprus.
If you want to see lights in Amsterdam, you see better lights down the red light district!! Running over an hour late with no organisation. Awkward to see anything in over crowded boats that were over sold. Unless you were facing forward you couldn’t see anything anyway, however it didn’t seem that much was missed
Light sculptures were unlike other holiday experiences. The trip went at a pleasant speed unlike most other canal boat tours. Nice small number of passengers in the group so we could enjoy each other’s company. Tour guide was very informed about all the sculptures origins. Warm seats!
I can't emphasize enough how great this tour was, and is one of my favorite experiences I've ever booked in my travels. Rocco was a great tour guide and is knowledgeable and brought his personal experiences which made the whole tour intimate and special. The history and personal anecdotes were great and I highly, highly recommend this experience. I would rate more than 5 stars if I could!
We loved very much to be so close to all the light - and the guide, who knows so many facts and stories about all that. The little boat gave us a private atmosphere and the possibility to enjoy the tour by hot drinks and tasty foods.
Rocco and his team are so accommodating. We went in 2019 and had such an amazing time. Definitely a must see when you visit Amsterdam. Also love the snacks and fun stories.
We had a great time with Marc, it was second week into the art festival and yet we took a path not crowded and slow paced and as a result able to enjoy the whole thing even more and really just immerse ourselves in it! The boat was warm and heated seats really cool, prosecco and cream puff was great and not crowded, all in all, a good night! thanks for having both of us again!
The boat was nice and toastie on cold winters night..Rocco was a great host and I thoroughly enjoyed his commentary, his company and the company of the other guests..The light show was great...Highly recommend..
The experience was a delight. Small group on a lovely little cosy boat. Rocco offered hot chocolate, tasty profiteroles and Prosecco. He was very friendly and invited the group to chat about themselves which made me feel like I was with friends. I would definitely recommend.
We are so grateful to have been able to experience the Amsterdam Light Festival in this way. We gained so much more by being on a smaller boat with our guide who also has a background and personal interest in the art. As the bigger boats passed us by in speed, I felt lucky that we had the time to get closer and discuss further our impressions of what we were seeing. The mulled wine and snacks were also a nice touch. Our evening was relaxing and much more personal than what we would've had if we had chosen another option.
The best activity for our first visit to Amsterdam! Rocco’s service was excellent. He was very personable and knowledgeable about Amsterdam and the Light Festival. His boat was comfortable and cosy with yummy snacks and great gluehwein.
This is the best way to see the Festival of of Lights. Being with just a few other people in a small boat allows a more personal connection and intimate experience than sitting in a row seat with 40 other people and listening over the intercom. This was a wonderful experience. Deep was a great guide and shared a number of very cool stories about the Netherlands and himself.
This was an incredible experience! We did this on our last night in Amsterdam and it was a magical way to end our trip. The artwork was beautiful and I loved hearing the background to each piece. You can tell that Rocco put in a lot of work to make this an intimate, personal canal ride for everyone present. Couldn't recommend this enough! I went in November 2019.
The trip was great. I recommend it to everyone who is visiting magical Amsterdam. we enjoyed the ride on a cozy boat with the best view of Amsterdam possible. Even if it was cold outside it was warm inside and we could go in and out to see the sights and drinking hot wine
Rocco goes the extra mile to make sure everyone is comfortable and happy. There are lovely snacks (AMAZING CHEESE) and either wine or tea. Me and my partner really enjoyed the boat trip to see the lights and thought that the whole experience was very personal. Rocco know lots about the light festival and Amsterdam. He’s also just a nice guy and even gave us a little gift at the end! I would highly recommend this tour and would definitely go on Rocco’s boat again if I were to go back to Amsterdam!
I was interested in this particular tour because it looked to be more intimate and personal than some others on offer, and that proved to be true! Rocco is a fantastic host who is gracious and generous. He also outlined interesting contexts for the works of art in the light festival, as well as the city spaces around the canals. I highly recommend the small boat, and especially Rocco. It is worth noting that communication around booking was also excellent.
To celebrate my birthday I did the Light Festival boattour with one of Rocco's collegues. Just 7 people onboard (me and two girl friends and four people of another birthday party, from Vienna), with heated seats, blankets and lots of typical Dutch snacks and gluhwein or tea to enjoy. The small boat could get very close to the art works and our guide gave us accurate information about Amsterdam, the canals and the artists participating in the Light Festival. It was a wonderful and personal experience, much better than onboard of one of those big tourist boats, we imagine. We loved it!
Rocco’s magical lights boat tour was an incredible experience that we will remember forever. He provided snacks, wine, tea, and conversation. Rocco was very sweet and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend!!!
Really enjoyed our cruise to see the light sculptures in Amsterdam. The captain was our tour guide and really tried to make things personal by getting the guests on board to chat away, drinks and nibbles on offer at all times, discussed the art work with us as well as other stories about the history of the city. Very nice and cosy. Would highly recommend to others.
The tour was the highlight during our stay in Amsterdam. The whole group was rather small which made the whole experience more personal. Moreover Rocco served delicious Glühwein, cookies and cheese! We really enjoyed the 2 hour tour as Rocco took the time to cruse around all installation making it possible to have a better look and take great photos. Rocco himself was a great tourguide letting us know the perfect mix between Amsterdam itself as well as the Light Festival! Go for it !
The trip was so lovely and romantic. The boat was very comfortable for about 10 people and it was very comfortable with seat heating and plankets. The skipper and host rocco decoratet the small table in the middle with flowers and prepared cookies cheese and chocolate way enough for all the people on the boat. The mulled wine was delicious and limitless on availibility. Rocco had a story to tell all the way and was even answering all the questins been asked in his best knowledge. It was such a warm athmosphere and great experience, I could not whish it to be done better. Thank you Rocco. BR Andreas and Sarah
Every year I take a boat trip for the Amsterdam Light Festival. This year I chose the tour organized by Rocco, and I must say that it was a great experience! We sailed through the canals for two hours, so we had enough time to admire the art works and the canals, to have conversations with the other guests and to enjoy the gluhwein and the Dutch delicacies. So my choice for next year is already clear. Thanks Rocco!
As someone who lives in Amsterdam, I know that many canal cruises in the city are complete tourist traps. This one is certainly not! The boat is small and intimate and there’s a lot of attention to detail with the atmosphere created and snacks and drinks on offer. Rocco is a kind and gentle guide who is very clearly invested in making sure all of his guests have a nice experience. This was the ideal way to see the light festival and the canals which take on a haunting appeal at night time. Thank you Rocco and Romantic Tour for a wonderful experience!
I was thrilled to find this experience and avoid all the tourist traps. Rocco's Warm hospitality, attention to detail and great knowledge makes for a fascinating journey of the light festival and the city's history. There was a generous spread of snacks, delicious gluhwein, heated seats and blankets to make a super cozy experience. This is highly recommended!!!
After arriving early, we were surprised to discover the reservation my wife made 2 months prior was nowhere to be found. Fortunately, a couple did not show up, so we were able to join. Our guide, Rocco Vermijs, is the reason I'm rating this experience EXCELLENT. He shared his story, was extremely personable, gave us all a history lesson, and added some additional insight regarding some of the Light Festival installations. He didn't have all the answers, but was kind and patient with some of the more "outspoken" guests, and deftly navigated through significant boat traffic. He went above and beyond to ensure everyone enjoyed the experience.
From the moment I booked Rocco's light festival tour I was excited! Advertised as an intimate cruise along Amsterdam's picturesque backdrop I can assure you it does not disappoint. You are welcomed aboard with a glass of hot, spiced mulled wine. A delicious winter treat to warm the belly. (tea is also available) and a carefully selected assortment of Dutch snacks to tantalise the taste buds as Rocco captivatingly tells you tales from the city that you will remember long after you depart. The silent boat itself is enclosed with the possibility to open the windows for photo opportunities. Heated, cushioned seats and provided blankets make it all the more cosy to experience the brilliance of Amsterdam's lights by night. By the end of the tour I had smiled, laughed, ate, drank and made new companions. Would I do it again? Yes! In fact I tried to do it again with a friend from out of town. Sadly we didn't plan ahead and there were no spots left so we decided to do The Official Amsterdam Light Festival tour and what a bore that was. It was a completely impersonal experience. Like going to a late night diner on the side of the road wondering why you were sitting in a window letting time pass by. My friend actually fell asleep. I cannot recommend Rocco's Light Festival tour enough. Looking for something to do in Amsterdam no matter what the weather? Book a tour with Rocco and experience the beauty of Amsterdam in an intimate setting. Listen to stories and warm up with mulled wine. Meet people from near and far as you share an experience you will look back on for the rest of your life.
This is the perfect way to spend an evening in Amsterdam, the boat is very cosy and super quiet so you have the most relaxing cruise possible. Rocco is a great host and makes sure all your needs are taken care of. Definitely a mist do when in Amsterdam!
It immediately started well with a very welcoming reception. Cozy, comfortable and a drink. Then a nice cruise through the canals. We received a personal and expert explanation of what we saw (Amsterdam Light Festival). I really enjoyed it a lot! Recommended! (Oh yes: nice boat!)
We had the choice between being cold or being asphyxiated (at least greatly inconvenienced) by the smell given off by the extra heating on board. Comments read on a smartphone...
Thanks to Rocco for his hospitality, kindness and listening. If you are looking for a romantic walk under the sign of art and culture, Rocco is for you! Former ballet dancer ‘art’ is a part of himself and his knowledge of Amsterdam is beyond doubt.Go see him for unforgettable memories Nicole and Dorian
With a small snack, delicious mulled wine and interesting information about the individual sculptures we enjoyed a cozy quiet tour through Amstedam's canals. Rocco passes on his love and passion for Amsterdam and art to his guests. It was a lot of fun. We can only recommend this.
We found it very good and would book there again! A small covered boat with seat heating, blankets, hot drinks and snacks. Rocco doesn't just ride the track, but explains the artworks and their statement. The Light Festival is very nice and made for viewing from the water. We would always prefer this tour to one of the classic tourist steamers or open boats.
Very personal tour. We have seen all the sculptures up close and well explained. Mulled wine, cheese and waffles created a cosy atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Despite the bad weather, it was great to visit the canals and admire the light installations on display at this time of year, all accompanied by hot wine, biscuits and chocolates. Skipper Rocco was a fantastic guide.
When my girlfriend came around the corner with the booked tour on our short break, I didn't feel like it at all. A boat tour through the canals – immediately I had the usual Touri rip-off in mind. But I was pleasantly surprised. We were lucky that night and were only four of us on the small boat. Rocco has made the tour a truly personal experience. After almost two hours with Stroopwaffles, cheese and mulled wine, we had not only seen the really great light cult tracks, but also learned a lot of background about Amsterdam and just had a nice conversation with each other. Further advantage of the small boat: We could see many sculptures from several sides at once, while the large excursion cutters only passed them quickly. An absolutely recommended excursion and a nice start for a wonderful December evening in Amsterdam. Anytime again!
