A friendly experience. Our hostess welcomed us into her home graciously with conversation and lovely environment. Well prepared and thoughtful gifts. Delicious pancakes and local wine. We made one sweet and one savory pancake. She taught us how to flip the pancakes with one hand and no spatula! She also gave us a fabulous dinner suggestion which we were so happy we attended. Try Badcuyp for dinner if you want a delicious local experience in a beautiful setting!

We booked the Dutch pancake experience because a hands-on activity combined with food is always a win. The experience takes place in the host's home, where they share a bit of history, introduce different types of pancakes, give you a chance to practice your flipping, and offer some local delicacies to taste (if you'd like). It was a simple, fun experience and a genuine taste of Dutch culture.
Amazing experience, very relaxing and easy-going, she was personable and offered a lot of insight on how life is in the Neverlands, well worth the money to do something non-touristy
Fusina provided the most wonderful lunch experience. Her canal apartment was clean and beautiful and the view unmatched. She started us off with cheese and wine. She even made us an apple tart from her grandmother‘s recipe. Then we made Dutch pancakes. One savory one sweet. Beyond delicious! we had incredible conversation and she has a great sense of humor. She even gave us a gift to take away. Truly one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam. If she doesn’t put a smile on your face, nothing will!!!
It was great to meet Fusina and spend two hours in an authentic canal house, talking about life in Amsterdam, sharing stories, and sampling Dutch specialties while making pancakes. As nice as it was, and I highly recommend the experience, be aware that it is pricey and what was provided is not exactly commensurate with the cost in my opinion. A small cheese platter, some herring, a half glass of wine, and two types of Dutch pancakes that we made were on the offering, all delicious ( and fun) but I have to be honest.
Our family of four -- twin 18 year-old boys and their 50-something parents -- had an absolutely delightful time with Fusina in her gorgeous home overlooking the canal. Absolutely everything -- the coffee, the cheese, the pancakes, the wine, the hospitality, the warmth -- was just perfect.
It was lovely to visit in the chef’s historic River front home. She was so welcoming and friendly and we had great fun making pancakes and sharing a meal.
Make sure you read the entire reminder letter. I just used the directions to meeting place. I never could find the place. When I arrived back in my hotel room I went back and re read everything. After walking up and Amstel, I was standing right in front of the place. However, by then I was late.and would have missed the beginning so I left.
I enjoyed the experience. Only trouble I had was exact location. I arrived in the right area, it could have been me, and my understanding of the address, so it would be in my part. But aside from that it was an enjoyable experience
Fusina, our instructor, was awesome! This class was a lot of fun, and a nice way to meet fellow travelers.
As instructed we arrived 15 minutes prior and host was irritated stating that the class begins at 11. We only made 2 Dutch pancakes for 4 people. Then followed by 4 small pieces of herring. However, her home was very clean. When class was completed we weren’t even given the option to use the bathroom. This does not qualify as a full lunch and left hungry. In my opinion this was definitely not worth the money.
My son and I had the best time making pancakes and learning about the Netherlands food and culture. The host was amazing and made us feel welcome right when we walked into her home. It was a highlight to our trip and I would recommend you do this if you ever visit Netherlands.
I was extremely disappointed with this cooking class—it felt like a complete waste of 182 euros for two people. The moment we walked in, the host immediately launched into a tirade about her antiques, warning us to “be careful with my antiques!!” This set the tone for the entire class, making me feel nervous and unwelcome. From the outset, when we introduced ourselves and mentioned we were Americans, her judgmental attitude became even more apparent. It quickly devolved into what felt like a “my country is better than your country” and quickly devolved into “I am better than you”, which was totally uncalled for. Rather than enjoying a fun, interactive class, we got a lecture on politics and superiority. Even the beverage service was off. We were offered the usual coffee, tea, water, and juice options, but when I asked about wine, she scoffed, saying something like, “I have wine and beer but it’s way too early for that!” all while giving a sour look that made me feel judged for my simple request. The class itself was a mess. We ended up making only two tiny pancakes—one apple and one bacon—and the entire process was marred by her constant criticisms. When the apple was nearly rotten and difficult to cut, she snapped, “The apples are being cut too thick, please cut them thinner or else we will have to use the whole apple,” even going so far as to flip the pancake over the sink instead of on the counter. Small talk quickly turned sour as well. When a majority of us admitted we didn’t usually cook, she shot us a judgmental glare and an awkward silence that only added to the tense atmosphere. I even shared that, due to my unpredictable work schedule in medicine, I often rely on quick meals like oatmeal, nuts, fruit, and eggs. Instead of understanding, she scoffed and made an unnecessary comment about my age, insinuating that I cannot continue to work that way for much longer. This was by far the worst cooking class I’ve attended—what was supposed to be a fun cultural experience turned into an uncomfortable, judgment-filled ordeal. Save your money and look elsewhere if you’re after a pleasant, engaging culinary lesson.
What a lovely way to spend a couple hours in Amsterdam. Our lovely hostess invited us into her home. There were a total of 5 of us. Three of us were flying solo and then a mother and daughter traveling together. It was not just about making pancakes. We had nice conversations with the hostess as she described the culture of Amsterdam and the Netherlands. We shared our experiences with her and the others as well. As a group, we did make dutch pancakes and ate them, along with other snacks she shared with us. It was a very nice time and good to connect with others from various backgrounds. It is well worth 2 hours and the price! Thank you!
The Dutch pancake making with Fusina was one of our absolute favorite memories our 2 week European vacation. There is something so special about being in such an intimate setting in the land that you are visiting. Fusina’s home was so pretty, right on the Amsterdam canals: We sat together in morning light of her artistic living room and we shared sweet stories before we started baking. She didn’t rush the experience. I asked my teen daughters what they loved about the Dutch Pancake morning and they said they loved how kind Fusina was and how she let them do the baking and flipping of the pancakes. I would recommend this experience to anyone visiting Amsterdam. Fusina shared a memory that is much deeper than any souvenir, a life long memory for my daughters and I. Thank you for this special opportunity.
My friend and I booked this cooking class with Fusina on a trip to Amsterdam. We had an AMAZING time! Class size is limited as it takes place in Fusina’s house, which made for a very personalized experience. Fusina was a wonderful host and we got a chance to try a few local Dutch foods and learned a lot about Dutch culture. I highly recommend this class to all those who are interested in learning more about the Dutch culture and want to learn how to make a local Dutch recipe. If I ever make it back to Amsterdam, I would love to try one of her other experiences or even take this class again to learn more from her.
The experience was great. Fusina is a great host, and it my wife and I had such a great time. We enjoyed cooking, eating, and learning more about the history of the town. Highly recommend. Fun, unique experience!
We had a wonderful time learning about Dutch life and foods. We were able to see a Dutch home and were warmly welcomed. We highly recommend it.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Learning to make Dutch pancakes in this beautiful Amsterdam canal house was an absolute delight! The experience was not just about mastering a recipe; it was a journey into the heart of Dutch culture and culinary tradition. Our host was incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights into the history and significance of Dutch pancakes. The hands-on cooking session was both educational and fun, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the authentic techniques of pancake-making. The setting couldn't have been more picturesque, with the charming canal house providing the perfect backdrop for our culinary adventure. It truly felt like stepping into a postcard. And the best part? Tasting the delicious fruits of our labor together in this cozy, convivial atmosphere. The pancakes were fluffy and flavorful, served with a variety of traditional toppings that delighted the taste buds. Overall, this experience exceeded all expectations and left us with memories to cherish for a lifetime. Whether you're a food enthusiast, a culture buff, or simply looking for a unique and memorable activity in Amsterdam, I wholeheartedly recommend learning to make Dutch pancakes in this beautiful canal house. It's an experience you won't soon forget!
This was such an enjoyable experience! Our host was just so kind and informative, and her home is so lovely, with beautiful views of the Amstel River. We learned about Amsterdam, its food and culture, and speaking of food… wow! Everything was so delicious. We were served some lovingly prepared foods and then got to experience making two pancakes; a sweet and a savory. I can’t recommend this experience highly enough!
We had a wonderful time with Fusima in her lovely canal home! Had some wonderful treats and had so much fun learning to make sweet and savory Dutch Pancakes. We even flipped them and they didn't hit the ground! AND she sent us the receipes! What a wonderful and charming hostess! Would definitely do this again!
Fusina was wonderful. She patiently showed us how to prepare and make Dutch pancakes'. Her home is beautifully decorated. It was the highlight of our Amsterdam experience
I don’t think the description is clear enough. This was in someone’s home. This was not a professional environment with cooking stations. You are sharing the experience with others in the kitchen making one pancake which you all share. The host was friendly and knowledgeable and provided delicious treats. However, this was not what I was expecting and overpriced in my opinion. PS there were no aprons as in the picture.
Fusina was a wonderful hostess! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at her beautiful home. Conversation was interesting and educational and the food offerings were amazing! I especially enjoyed the Gouda cheese with the Appelstroop. It was so good I found some at a local grocery store to bring some home. The Dutch pancakes were SO good and was excited to learn how to make them and will definitely duplicate it with friends at home in the US. This was definitely the highlight of my first trip to Europe.
We had a lovely time! It was a very unique experience. Host was very friendly and knowledgeable. Sue made us feel welcome and helped us make some delicious traditional Dutch pancakes. We also had some traditional Dutch snacks as well as drinks and some wine. Delightful few hours.
This is a must do while in Amsterdam. Learning to make local pancakes, while also experiencing a local home on the canal. Exceptional host who provides local history and experience.
We’re sorry but felt it was the worst food class we have ever taken. We have taken many. The canal house was charming and so was the host but the amount of food we cooked and ate was just ridiculous. We didn’t even have an entire pancake for each person. That’s not right. We felt ripped off. We have been to many classes and ate well. Each person was given a fraction of a pancake. It was ridiculous.
As soon as we stepped in the door, our hostess extended a relaxed and informative time to us in her own Dutch Home. Giving us the hands on opportunity of making and flipping Dutch Pancakes while being served on her antique traditional Blue and White Dishes gave us many unique memories to carry back home. Thank you so very mush.
We loved our time here!! So much fun and DELICIOUS pancakes!!! We especially loved the bacon one! She also told us about the local market that was about a 10-15 min walk from her home and we LOVED that as well.
So much fun and a great class! The pancakes and treats were delicious - and the house on the canal was pretty
Fusina is a gracious hostess. The morning was absolutely delightful. Since my husband and I had spent a couple of days in Amsterdam several years ago, I looked for something different to do. In the future, I will seek out these types of experiences.
We really enjoyed our time with Fusina, from learning to make the Dutch pancakes to seeing her interesting home and sharing delightful conversation. She was very knowledgeable and informative, and provided an excellent introduction to our time in the city. A great way to start our visit in Amsterdam!
After arriving in Amsterdam on a very early flight from the US, learning to make Dutch pancakes and sharing an enjoyable conversation at Fusina's home on the Amstel River was a perfect start to our stay here. We sliced apples, flipped our large pancakes in the air without dropping them, and enjoyed eating what we prepared, along with other local treats provided by the hostess. Tasty!! Fusina was very friendly, welcoming, and made sure we had a wonderful time. If you are looking for local Dutch "flavor" (pun intended), you'll enjoy this charming experience!
Super fun!! Home was beautiful, Fusina was an amazing host, great conversation, incredible food…definitely a great way to introduce yourself to a new travel destination! Highly recommend this!!
There was not much cooking involved. The hostess was lovely and provided food and wine. There was great conversation about travel and Amsterdam. The pancakes were delicious and easy to replicate at home. This was held in a lovely house across from a canal. It was a bit pricey.
Wonderful experience! The home is beautiful and we learned so much about the culture while enjoying pancakes we made. The host is kind, genuine and knowledgeable. I really great authentic experience. Highly recommend.
This was such a fun and cool experience for someone like me who loves food, cooking, and learning about the culture of a new place. The house was beautiful, and the host was very kind and informative. We started with some snacks, some chatting, and then got into the pancake making. Everyone got to participate, and it was a really nice time to meet some new people and learn a new recipe. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Amsterdam!
Met a great group of young women and the whole experience,, from cooking.. to learning about Amsterdam to sharing stories.. loved it!
This is the best chance to see a real Amsterdam chef and her lovely kitchen. Our host was so charming and the hospitality and instruction she offered second to none.
It was very nice. Fusina was great chatting and tasting was great. I actually thought that we would each get to make a pancake. There were two other ladies. We made two pancakes which were great. I would go again. But I would like to do the whole process. Not just one part. From beginning to end or just cook the pancake.
A wonderful experience with Fusina! She is so kind and welcoming. She truly enjoys entertaining and cooking.
This is one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam. It was a delight to make Dutch pancakes with Fusina and to learn so much about the city and its history. She welcomed us into her home and we were treated so well!
My husband and I enjoyed the whole experience of being invited into a canal house to learn how to make Dutch Pancakes but more importantly interact with a local who explains life in Amsterdam.
Loved, Loved, Loved this experience! Fusina not only showed us how to make the Dutch pancake, but was a lot of fun to hang out with. My husband, daughter and I loved this so much we asked if we could schedule a food tour with Fusina. We were lucky! The next day she took us to several shops and introduced us to many local dishes we would have never found without her. Fusina made all this so fun! Being able to hang out in her home and enjoy a relaxed and informative conversation with her ranks very high on our list of favorite things we did in Amsterdam. The view from her home is stunning and historic! And, it should be said...The pancakes were delicious. :) Thank you Fusina!
Experience with local citizens, enjoyed the opportunity to cook with a local and enjoyed the new taste
We were with our teenage granddaughter and Fusina made it fun with all of us. The conversation was informative, the cooking was fun and the food was delicious. One of the true highlights of our trip. The granddaughter has continued to talk about it! Do not miss this fun event.
What a great experience, I would love to do this again ! The food was amazing and the hospitality was great
Lovely experience. Very welcoming and great to learn and chat more about Dutch culture etc. thank you so much Fusina!
Great to meet Fustina and hear about the history of the city, canals, her family and learn to make sweet and savory Dutch pancakes at home. Nice personal experience… She does walking tours as well…
Gracious host, and lovely, relaxing experience. It’s wonderful to spend time in a local home. Thank you for opening your home to us!
