Itinerary
Start with Amsterdam's most legendary apple pie at this 400-year-old brown café. Paired with your choice of coffee, cappuccino, or tea, you'll discover why this family recipe has attracted locals and visitors (including Bill Clinton) for generations.
Jordaan, one of Amsterdam’s most characterful neighborhoods, was once home to workers, artists, and migrants. Its narrow streets and canals tell stories of resilience, creativity, and community that continue to shape daily life today.
Taste fresh herring and crispy kibbeling at a classic Dutch fishmonger. Watch skilled fishmongers prepare the herring in the open back area while soaking up authentic local atmosphere.
Taste a selection of organic Gouda cheeses at a historic Café. This traditional brown café offers a warm, authentic setting to enjoy the rich flavors of Dutch cheese at different stages of aging.
Walk along one of Amsterdam's most beautiful canals, admiring the stunning 17th-century architecture while your guide shares stories of the city's Golden Age and its influence on Dutch cuisine.
De Gangen Willemstraat, known as "the hallways" or "the slums," were once home to the city’s poorest residents. Cramped and overcrowded, these narrow alleys behind the houses were plagued by disease and hunger.
Discover a unique catering shop where women share their culinary heritage. Here, the chef serves her homemade flavorful highlight among authentic home-cooked meals from around the world.
Stop by and enjoy a classic Dutch treat. Watch as fluffy poffertjes are made fresh on the griddle, then served warm with butter and powdered sugar. A sweet taste of the Netherlands!
View the exterior of this poignant historical site as your guide provides context about Amsterdam during WWII and its impact on the city's culture and cuisine.
End your tour with crispy bitterballen and a smooth glass of jenever. Enjoy this classic Dutch pairing in a cozy, nostalgic brown café beloved by locals.

Our guide Paul was so much fun. He was really knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the food and history of the area. He made us all feel very comfortable and I highly recommend him.
We had the BEST time on our food tour with Steve in Amsterdam! His personality, friendliness, and knowledge of the city made the entire experience so much fun. Every food stop was spot on, and it felt like we were discovering hidden gems that most tourists would never find. Not only was the food amazing, but Steve also shared so much interesting history about Amsterdam and gave us great recommendations for the rest of our trip. He truly made the tour feel special and personal. We honestly almost didn’t want it to end! If you’re visiting Amsterdam, I can’t recommend Steve enough. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!
Sabrina was both knowledgeable and engaging and the 3 hours just flew by. Thank you Sabrina!
The food tour was awesome! Great mix of food and history and Sabrina was the absolute best! We loved it and loved being able to see Amsterdam this way!!
So much great food and lots of in-depth knowledge. Sabrina is an excellent host, full of energy and enthusiasm. One of the best experiences of our trip!
Our food guide was Paul. Lucky for us we were the only two people on the tour, so not only did we get a food tour, we got to know Paul. Our stops included a cafe that served great apple pie, a shop that served herring which was really good even though I didn’t previously like herring, a mini-pancake shop, and an Indonesian restaurant. All of the stops were local spots and we probably would not have found them on our own which made the experience interesting. There were also many little stories about Amsterdam making the walk from one restaurant to another fun and interesting. Paul was funny, easy to be around, and very engaging. We highly recommend Paul and this tour.
Sabrina is awesome! Lots os walking and lots of food!
Wonderful experience! Sabrina was great.
We had an amazing day with Alda!!! She was delightful and very knowledgeable about Amsterdam and the food place we went to. We visited 6 different restaurants and everything was delicious. We were stuffed and very happy. We did a private tour… highly recommend.
Loved our food tour!!! Such a fun way to see the city and have a dinner with many different bites! The rain made the evening even more memorable:). Our host did an amazing job with great information about everything!!!
Gerard was a fantastic guide and we enjoyed his tour immensely
Paul was great. He was awesome.
Paul was a great tour guide. He was amusing yet very knowledgeable.. Made us feel part of a special group
Great tour. Lots to eat and Paul was generous and told lots of great stories with true local’s knowledge.
Our tour guide Sabrina was awesome, she was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend time with, a 10 out of 10! The food part was the disappointment, the ad said 12 Dutch food tastings and 4 drinks, we got the 4 drinks but only 5 food tastings (or a total of 7 if we count each little square of cheese we tasted, the size a free sample you would get at the grocery store). We chose and paid more for this tour because it advertised 12 Dutch Food tastings, others advertised only 10, so only receiving 5 (or call it 7) not so great.
We were fortunate enough to have Gerard as our tourguide, he was extremely knowledgeable clearly has spent a long time in Amsterdam and he even gave us recommendations which we were so grateful for! It was great to learn about the history of this amazing city, we would highly recommend it for anyone who is curious about the dutch food and the history behind it. The food was plenty, each one more delicious than the one before.
We make it a point of taking a walking tour of every new city we visit. Today’s tour with Gerard was one of the best ever! Punctual, personable and knowledgeable. Gerard make the afternoon great fun as we sampled many local foods. What fun!
Fantastic tour with Jacob! Highlights of Dutch cuisine as well as good understanding of the city center.
Jacobo was a delight to have on this tour. Very personable and brought us all the tasty treats of Amsterdam with historical information
We had a fantastic time with our guide Stephanie on this Jordaan food tour! She was very knowledgeable and engaging, and all of the food was delicious! Highly recommend for anyone who wants to learn more about the food and local context of Amsterdam!
I rarely write reviews, either positive or negative but I will in this case because it may help to improve the product. We were highly disappointed in the tour. We have taken food tours in other major cities, which were great. This one was not although Amsterdam is a wonderful food city with interesting food. We started with 5 couples. Two dropped out, one of them used walking sticks and couldn’t keep up. So they took a cab to the last stop. Talking to the other couples, they said they felt as though they were in a race. Maybe selecting shops which are closer together so we move at a more leisurely pace or warning patrons would be helpful. For example, we each got a box of profiteroles which we had to eat on the run to the next stop. So we didn’t finish ours. The pace of the tour was not well thought out. Of the five stops only two were good. The profiteroles and a herring shop. The other three were bars which had nothing to do with the food. The first was an apple tart with whipping cream which was offered with beer and wine. Another was cheese with beer and wine. The cheese consisted of four cheeses, Gouda, an aged Gouda, a hard goat cheese and a smoked Gouda. Come on, this is The Netherlands. On the Amazing Race contestants had to match 15 different cheeses. Isn’t this supposed to be a food tour? A missed opportunity. Second at the different bars we had a range of four different beers, none of which were unique or memorable. Dutch are known as beer drinkers. Another lost opportunity. They’re not known for their wine. Maybe imported coffee or tea? Our last food stop was Indonesian food, served at a local bar. It was some kind of meat dish with unusual spices. It would have been better at an Indonesian restaurant where we could get a more interesting experience of the food. Again, with some average beers. Who knows what the Indonesians drink. This would also seem to have been a better tasting earlier in the tour rather than the apple tort. We took this tour, which was a little more expensive ($250+ for two) thinking it would be for foodies. It was more of a cultural tour and overpriced. If this had been our first food tour in a major city we would not take another. We did better watching “Some feed Phil” on Netflix and just wandering around.
Gerard was a fantastic guide in showing us the best food tour we've ever gone on across the world! He provided a great commentary of the Jordaan district in Amsterdam accompanied by the food and drink most representative of the area. Please note that this mid-day tour constitutes lunch unless you are very, very hungry.
I had such a great time on this tour! The variety of food and the length of the tour was perfect. Gerard was a fantastic guide- very knowledgeable, funny, and patient. I've been travelling solo and this was the perfect opportunity to meet new people and learn about the food, culture, and history of Amsterdam.
Lovely walking and tasting tour. Our guide Jacopo was warm and welcoming and shared many historical facts and insights about the areas we walked through and the places we visited. We greatly enjoyed the food and the company
Eating Amsterdam canceled on us the morning of this tour - unapologetically. We booked a private tour 4 months in advance. I have NOT received a refund. I have NO idea how to go about getting my $550 back but trust me DO NOT BOOK with this company!
We had a wonderful experience on our food tour. Jacopo was friendly and knowledgeable about the neighborhood and the local food scene. It was a nice small group of 4. We enjoyed a variety of foods, tailored to food preferences and allergies. We came away full and with many further food suggestions for the rest our visit. It was a very memorable experience and highly recommend when visiting Amsterdam.
Fantastic tour with amazing food choices and most importantly, Stephanie was a bright, knowledgeable and thoughtful guide who gave a true taste of local culture and history! We had a great experience!!
Jacopo was a wonderful guide. Very knowledgeable and helpful. We were impressed by the number of foods we were able to try and left the tour full and happy!
5. Gerard was wonderful. He had great knowledge and was very easy to spend time with. He kept the tour moving at our pace. We would highly recommend him.
Gerald was a super guide. He told us stories and showed us points of interest on top of our food tour. He went above and beyond. He made sure that as a solo traveler I was able to go in the correct direction to my hotel.
Such a fun way to taste some traditional Dutch food while learning the history. Sabrina made the experience so fun, informative and engaging! Such a highlight and a great way to learn the lay of the land.
Sabrina was a great guide. I’d highly recommend this trip.
Alda was friendly and super knowledgeable. We absolutely enjoyed our tour with the perfect ending on the boat, enjoying the canal.
Fantastic history lesson from Sabrina with delicious food!!
Had a fantastic time. Sabrina is a delight! Enjoyed the combination of walking and canal tour.
We had a lot of fun on the tour. Great food (and drinks), weather was accommodating and Sabrina, our guide was funny, knowledgable and great to speak with. I now know why the carrots areorange!
Fantastic tour with great food and cultural perspectives from Sabrina!! Loved the bitterballen and the nacht tripel
Jacobo was so good showing us the best place in Amsterdam!!!
Lots of food, all really good. I didn't expect to like the pickled herring, but even this was good. Highly recommend if you enjoy good food and exploring at the same time. A little bit of interesting history is shared along the way, all very interesting. Thanks to Jacopo for the tour.
Amazing tour with a engaging history of this city
Great experience! Would definitely recommend! Jacob was awesome!!
Steven was brilliant , funny with much useful Information ! Thank you steven
Very confusing and hard to find the pickup location. The ride itself was great. We had Thom and he was a pro at driving the boat and very informative about the city.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Jordaan Food Tour with guide Paul tonight. Paul was very knowledgeable, provided historical context and was very entertaining. We especially enjoyed our Indonesian tasting. Highly recommend this tour. If you book, be sure to arrive hungry so you can enjoy all the tastings.
We did the Jordaan Food Tour with Dutch Tastings on September 5th, and since no one else booked that time slot, it turned into a private tour for our small group. Sabrina was an excellent guide, taking us to truly local spots, sharing great stories about the Jordaan’s architecture and food culture, and timing everything so we never had to wait. Every tasting was delicious and unique, and the Dutch pancakes were the standout of the day.
Our tour guide, Sabrina, was very knowledgeable of dutch food, history, and traditions. The food and drinks tasting selection was meaningful. All cafes we visited for food testing were very accommodating and friendly. She made us want to visit Amsterdam again.
Elena was an excellent guide. All the food and drinks were amazing.
Paul was wonderful! Very knowledgeable.
Alda was a fabulous guide! We really enjoyed experiencing the food of Amsterdam. The cheese stop was my favorite! The Indonesia restaurant stop was delicious and unexpected. The best was the canal ride. A perfect way to explore Amsterdam.
