Amsterdam: Van Gogh Museum (Private Tour With Art Historian)

What an incredible tour of the Van Gogh museum we had!! We learned so much from Bram and were able to look at the art through a different lens. He was so knowledgeable about the subject matter, as well as other artist and museums that we brought up. Would recommend to anyone who is looking to have a further understanding of Van Gogh’s work throughout his life.

We had a very good tour with Bram. He is knowledgeable and very passionate about art. We learned so much walking through the Van Gogh Museum with him and listening to his stories.

Noah was so wonderful! She made Van Gogh come alive for us, and her enthusiasm was contagious. Seeing the paintings though Noah’s eyes and extensive knowledge gave us a whole new appreciation for Van Gogh’s works and his life, and I now see some of my favorite paintings in an entirely new light. We only had one full day in Amsterdam and we are so glad we spent a few hours of it exploring the museum with Noah. We learned so much and had a blast with our small group. The way she explained his work, struggles, and journey helped us connect with the artist on a much deeper level. Her passion and storytelling made the experience truly memorable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the museum!

Our guide, Titia, plainly had a love for the work of Van Gogh and conveyed it throughout her presentation. Her enthusiasm and breadth of knowledge really brought Van Gogh alive. We were amazed at how fast he worked on his paintings. When the tour was over we could begin to recognize paintings from his various periods. Wonderful!

Bram reached out ahead of our tour to set a meeting spot that was easy to locate. When we got to the spot he was there and was immediately very open and kind. We had a great “get to know each other” conversation and found we had much in common. Bram is very easy to talk to. We discussed that we had read the Van Gogh biography by Andrew Graham-Dixon so Bram tailored his info to meet us where we were, and didn’t repeat info we knew. He helped us to negotiate the crowds and take a smart pathway through the exhibits that gave us a clear view of the life of this amazing and complicated painter. Bram also added fun tidbits of his visits to the museum when he was a kid and how the museum was so accessible to children. Bram was very knowledgeable but also just a fun person to walk with. We would highly recommend him to others as a guide for the Van Gogh museum.

Titia was a great tour guide!! She was so knowledgable and extremely engaging. I really like that this tour is very small. Another tour I had was 20 people and it was so hard to keep track but this small group was well worth the value.

Pricey, but well worth it if you’re truly interested in Van Gogh. Our guide , Celine, has worked as a researcher for the Van Gogh Museum and is thoroughly knowledgeable about his life and work. This was one of the best guided tours I’ve experienced — Fannie was an energetic, friendly, and knowledgeable guide whose excitement for Van Gogh is contagious. She explained not only his techniques but also his life and how his life story shaped the acquisition and expression of his techniques. She had plenty of historical anecdotes and additional media to augment her tour, and brought us to and gave context for all of the key pieces in the collection. Truly an all-round experience for the curious individual, art lover, or anyone wanting to learn a bit more about the icon that is Van Gogh. Cannot recommend this tour or Fannie in particular enough.

It was a wonderful 2 hours with Titia. She was knowledgeable, passionate, engaging, and friendly. The information she presented was both rich and incredibly moving. The pace was perfect . I will take many wonderful memories of this experience with me.

What a fabulous tour! Aucke was our guide and he was incredibly knowledgeable about Van Gogh’s life, the evolution of his artistic style over the years he was active, who influenced his work, and the artists whose work he influenced. The museum itself is a beautiful modern space and the way the exhibits are presented and laid out are very smart and intuitive. I have been before but today we brought friends with almost know knowledge of Van Gogh and they were fascinated. Thank you to Aucke and the Amor Artrium team, it was a wonderful day!

The Van Gogh tour was the highlight of our whole trip to Amsterdam! Titia is an INCREDIBLE guide, art historian and storyteller. My Mother and I took her Van Gogh Museum tour and had such a blast learning details about Van Gogh's life and painting journey. The stories and explanation of technical elements made me appreciate his art with much more depth. The museum is a beautiful archive of his life as an artist and his bond with his brother, Theo, which was brought to life through our guide, Titia's, stories. Titia is an Art Historian with a wealth of knowledge, who is very receptive, fun and open to answering questions. We wish the tour could've been hours longer because we were having so much fun learning! 10/10 Recommend. Also, of course, the art is STUNNING, emotional, vivid and deep.

Our small-group tour with Titia was fantastic. There were only five of us (our party of 2 plus a family of 3), which made the experience personal and relaxed. Titia did an amazing job weaving the story of Vincent van Gogh’s life as we moved through the museum and viewed his work. Her commentary was engaging and kept our attention the entire time. I didn’t expect to come away with such a deeper appreciation of Van Gogh’s art and technique, but Titia’s explanations of his methods and the context behind the paintings really brought everything to life. Our tour with art historian Roser was exceptional! We had visited the Van Gogh museum twice before, had taken the audio tour, and we really wanted a deeper understanding about the art and the artist. Roser did not disappoint. She came with stories, letters, photographs, and a passion about the subject that was contagious. We learned so much about Van Gogh’s history, his family, his psychological demons, his inspirations, and his dreams. Roser gave us such a comprehensive picture of this complicated, misunderstood, beautiful human being. It was quite emotional. Would recommend this tour (and this tour company) to anyone who loves art and/or history.

After waiting a lifetime to visit the Van Gogh museum, we couldn't have been happier with our experience. Our tour guide, Ank, was so knowledgeable and passionate about her topic. We learned with our brains and felt with our hearts. She brought Van Gogh to life. A bit of confusion with the tickets (which was no fault of this tour operator) led to this company going above and beyond to make sure we had our Van Gogh moment. This tour was worth every penny.
