So this is a tale of two halves…excellent pieces on display lots of Banksy, Warhol and other notable artist and great digital displays…. But here’s the thing, it’s in a house and so is really hard to manage the visitor flow well abs it only takes one ding at standing in a doorway and that’s the whole room backed up. It was too busy really and a to move from room to room. It might be better early morning/evening but our flight time meant we had little choice on timing.
Great collection of provocative modern art. Buy your admission ticket from the Museum to save 10€ and the audio guide is free.
Cramped and thinly stocked compared to its London twin. The visit is over in no time, spread across three small floors, with little explanation and no effort to put the works in dialogue with one another. A lazy museum, in short.
I loved the depth that this museum put into banksy with such little space, it showed his artwork brilliantly! However there was little basquiat artwork and i would buy a ticket before going as the line was long for people who hadn’t before going, but that doesn’t take away how pleasant my experience was and I would highly recommend visiting.
Not great - nice to see some Bankseys up close, but they are way overselling the Warhol, Haring, and other artists of which there are only one or two very minor pieces - unless you are completist probably overall not worth it. Also can easily buy tickets directly.
This is one of my favourite experiences in Amsterdam. So much fun. And great photo opportunities. Use NEFEAST5 on GetyourGuide when booking and get 5% off also
A perfect small museum with lots of artists that have made an impact in the world.
We spend just over an hour there as a group of 15. We were let in in groups of 5 to space out the visit and stop us feeling crowded. the exhibits were out of this world, all contemporary artists some bordering on futuristic but all absolutely stunning. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A wonderful experience for a reasonable admission fee.
Art works are very different and interesting to view. You only need about an hour to view everything.
Lots to see great building to show off some great art work loved it
It was a decent experience with some interesting artwork. Wasn’t very big & I didn’t think warranted the price.
We both enjoyed the experience and would recommend it as a place to visit.
Let's start with the name: "Moco" apparently stands for "Modern Contemporary," but after our visit I've decided it actually stands for "Mostly Copies." The vast majority of what's on display isn't a singular, precious object you're privileged to stand before — it's a print. A print you could, theoretically, buy in the gift shop five feet away. There's no scarcity, no exclusivity, no sense that you're in the presence of something irreplaceable. You're in the presence of a very expensive poster shop with mood lighting. Then there's the location. Tucked smugly into Amsterdam's museum district, right alongside institutions that have actually earned their address, Moco borrows credibility by proximity alone. Step inside, though, and the illusion collapses immediately — this is obviously a converted townhouse. The "galleries" are what used to be bedrooms and hallways, there's no coherent route through the place, and you spend the entire visit doing an awkward shuffle-dance with strangers because there's nowhere for the crowd to go but through each other. The real masterpiece of disappointment, though, was the "exclusive" pink room — a paid add-on, no less. Picture it: a room painted pink, some NFT art flickering on a screen (truly the pinnacle of scarcity and exclusivity /s), and a "complimentary" Polaroid photo that turned out to be out of focus and mostly a picture of a wall. I've taken better photos accidentally in my pocket. One star, and that's generous — it's for the paint colour in the pink room. At least that was in focus.
The place is rather small.. it’s a 30 minute max visit and DON’T PAY FOR THE PINK ROOM !!! It is a classic SCAM !!! They put you in a room with 3 pink sofas and that is the experience.. make you a polaroid picture and go out. What a way to steal your money.. SCAM SCAM SCAM
Great experience. Mind blowing art works spread over several floors so lots of stairs and narrow passageways. Good gift shop.
There is a decent collection of modern art spread out over 4 floors of what seemed to be an old house. We paid £29 for 2 tickets - this was a discounted price because we had an NL museum pass. Highlights for me were the artworks by Banksy and Robbie Williams. You can use the museum’s website to listen to commentary about the art on your phone.
Took a run through on a hot August Saturday. This museum is essentially a house that was converted to house displays. Some rooms are cramped especially when there is a crowd inside. Some rooms could barely hold 4 ppl plus displays. Explanations of pieces were written well. An audio guide is available as well. I enjoyed the video montage/meditation pieces, Banksy dollar bill, and Grim Reaper.
The museum was great to see the contemporary artists artwork. The audio guide didn’t work. A huge collection of Bansky art pieces was there. The tour was about 1 hour long.
Fantastic muesum to wander through, but was very crowded (in March) so allow plenty of time to wander through to see all the rooms and exhibits.
A collection of modern artists, well laid out, each given a chance to shine. Great use of available space
Great exhibition, but as usual, overpriced. Not sure how they come up with the cost.
Overcrowded tourist trap - the art inside - no conception, some good pieces, however, it's focused on someone who is not in art at all. General public. Expected it could be interestring for 12-year old boy, no.
I'm not a diehard art lover but this was a great place to visit with my teens. Fun. Good variety. Enjoyed the experience. Teens were engaged the whole time! Worth it.
To many people To much art in to littel space
Poor museum. We live in a complex age and it was disappointing to see an art collection completely unprepared to meet it. The “immersive digital art” is a social media photo opportunity. The Banksy reproductions are… fine but uninspired. Worst of all, some of the displays use AI-written text, as if the museum was acknowledging its completely empty perspective on art today. Does not deserve its place next to the two other museums nearby.
The worst museum I ever went to. It costs € 30,00 and it doesn’t worth even € 5,00. I wouldn’t go for free.
Charming old building houses this small museum. Artwork was disappointing because all the prints were covered with reflective glass … difficult to see or get photos. Intentional??? Beware … very steep steps for all levels!
So many amazing pieces of art by artists i have waited decades to view.
My husband and I loved this museum and it was great to start from top to bottom of the museum , defiantly recommend.
I had the Iamamsterdam card and entrance to this museum was included in it. The price to enter is around the 20 euros mark so I am going to review it based on that price. This is very much a modern art museum. There was quite a good variety of pieces to look at - different genres and styles etc. A lot of the more famous pieces were just reprints though. Some of it I just looked at and concluded it was not art at all but just a hoax being called art. However, that is for each person to decide. The pieces in this museum will definitely cause debate. I will say that it was an interesting visit and would just about say its worth the admission price. I spent about maybe 40-45 minutes in here and I would say i enjoyed the visit. This museum is a short walk from the Museumplan tram stop.
Unfortunately, the museum was very disappointing. First of all, it was heavily overpriced and felt like a cash grab. Yes, they had works from the artist mentioned, but as many of them were prints from original (of course, understandable with street art) it felt like I could’ve had the same experience from the internet. The works were also very similar to each other both in topics and methods, which was a shame for a museum attempting to familiarise new audiances with contemporary art. I hope that in the future they change the info text to talk more about the artist and the work they are presenting instead of speaking about the museum and its goals, and giving guides on how to interpret the pieces mixed with motivational advice like ”don’t forget that you’re a diamond too!”
Visiting Moco Museum was a very enjoyable experience, especially seeing works associated with artists such as Banksy, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Yayoi Kusama, KAWS, Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst gathered in one place. The museum has a vibrant atmosphere and presents a strong selection of contemporary and modern art that many visitors will appreciate. That said, the museum can feel quite crowded for the size of the space. Limiting visitor numbers slightly could help create a calmer and more immersive viewing experience. Another aspect that could be improved is the lighting and framing presentation. Because of the many windows in the building and the reflective glass used on several framed works, reflections sometimes make it difficult to properly view the artworks. Museum-grade anti-reflective glass would greatly enhance the experience. As someone working in visual art curation, I would have appreciated a slightly clearer narrative flow between sections and artworks. With such an important group of artists, a more connected exhibition structure could further strengthen the storytelling and dialogue between the pieces. Overall, Moco Museum remains a memorable and worthwhile visit in Amsterdam, particularly for anyone interested in contemporary art and iconic modern artists.
Don't waste your time or money. Far too many people in the museum. I dont even know how that many people safety wise could be in one small building. Don't go.
Paid around €50 for 2 tickets, we visited this place due to how amazing it was portrayed online. The tour itself takes about 30 minutes max to see everything in there, too many guests let in at once and very busy inside. Some of the art work was interesting but definitely not worth the money. The immersive section was very basic, only had a couple of rooms that were interesting.
Nice Art. I think it‘s a Bit expensive because the Museum is Not that big but its a Great Expirience for every Art lover
Overpriced for the amount of exhibits. Not really worth spending the money for 30mins max.
Didn’t enjoy this museum, ridiculously crowded and full of small spaces that couldn’t accommodate all the visitors. Also found the collections very limited. Enjoyed Banksy, Robbie Williams and digital immersive art pieces. Best thing I could say about the museum is the cloakroom for one euro and also a nice selection of items in the gift shop.
We managed to get a special offer in tickets, which made this even better value. Even at full price it's not expensive. Whilst small, the rooms are light and airy and well suited to showing artworks. Those on display were well curated and with excellent explanations and were a great variety.
Lots of people recommended a visit here and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We booked it in for a rainy day as it’s majority inside. Would definitely recommend.
Not much to see, too high an entry fee. Save your money and go to Stedelijk instead. Seriously, it's three levels, with three or four rooms each. OK it's Warhol and Banksy, but the ground floor is about some footballer.
My wife and I visited Moco in Amsterdam recently while on long weekend in Amsterdam. We both enjoy modern art and this one did not disappoint. It is in old house so there are exhibits on different levels. It was little crowded due to limited space. Really enjoyed the special exhibition on Johan Cruyff. There are some outdoor art to also see on way out. Recommend to get tickets ahead of time.
The works in question aren’t very inspiring and the way they are presented is quite nauseating. The only real reason to visit would be the immersive experience rooms downstairs but overall it’s just not worth the entry cost.
A great art gallery. Full of great Modern artist. We are a family that likes Banksy. The gallery is great location off the Tram stop of Museamplien Amsterdam. It is pretty expensive but Amsterdam does change a lot for ALL galleries and museums. We used a discount code that brought it down in price. There is a Free garden with art in it if you just want to do that. The building is small and unfortunately many visitors are wandering around oblivious of their surroundings in a small venue so its is frustrating to wait to see art. There are lots of photo/interactive opportunities. I was excited to find Robbie Williams art in the Amsterdam one. I thought it was only in the London one. We has a great 1hr or so in this Gallery.
Very interesting with a variety of contemporary art in a relatively small space. It is better if you can climb stairs.
Really crowded - didn’t seem to be any control of people coming in so it was difficult to see the exhibits. There isn’t that much to see and you could be done in less that an hour
Highly overrated: 25 euro for less than an hour? Far too expensive! Visit the Rijksmuseum or the Stedelijk museum, that's art for money.
Wonderful experience. Bansky is a master of truth.
The museum is small, very crowded and feels a bit forced. It's like a sample collection on "this is what modern art could look like". Not worth the money.
Really liked this venue from start to finish as it's quirky, different, and has plenty to say for itself🤩 Definately worth a visit not matter what your age. While kids won't want to go anywhere else 😊 Just be mindful though, if you have mobility difficulties, these are going to be challenged there as there's no lifts etc.
