Itinerary
Located between the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum at the famous Museum Square you will find the Diamond Museum Amsterdam. While the museum prepares for its new home, the highlights of the collection are on show in a temporary exhibition, with a guided diamond factory tour on one ticket. Amsterdam has been the City of Diamonds for four centuries, and many famous stones were cut here, such as the Cullinan (the largest diamond ever found) and the Koh-i-Noor (the mountain of light). Learn about every aspect of the world of diamonds. From the origins of diamonds, to the valuation, different types of diamond and the attributes that make them special and so valuable. Watch master polishers turn rough stones into brilliants in front of you during a 30 minute guided factory tour, gaze upon the diamond encrusted version of 'Starry Starry Night' by van Gogh, see how kings throughout history showed their power and status through our replica crowns and the famous diamond-studded ape skull.

I have paid 9 euro to have an audio guide with very few explanations on the process. Workers were doing nothing at the moment of the visit. We have ended the tour in less than 30 mins . It Is like to pay to just enter in a jewellery.
Really enjoyed our tour. Patricia our guide was excellent.
Was able to meet Pauline and was an amazing experience, her stories and Guinness record amaze me.
Great museum. Although mostly replicas, the guide was very knowledgeable. It helped when I and my wife visited the "Tower of London" and saw the crown jewels.
Amazing experience! The tour was incredibly fascinating, and the hospitality was absolutely perfect. A special mention to Mr. Simone Pilla for his kindness, professionalism, and for guiding us through the incredible world of diamonds. His passion and knowledge made the visit truly unforgettable. Highly recommended!
This was interesting to see how the diamonds are cut; and of course, to see the gorgeous sparkly gems!
The tour was excellent, with a very informative guide, who clearly loved his job. As well as an understanding of the work of diamond polishing, the way they are valued and presented, we got to see a wide range of diamonds up close.
We had a wonderful time on our tour. We were able to talk with one of the diamond polishers and learn so much! Our tour guide took us in a special room and showed us some loose diamonds and some diamonds under a microscope, and that was fabulous. The tour guide was so good at answering all our questions, and made it a really fun experience. I highly recommend a tour, and would definitely trust Royal Coster Diamonds if I was looking to buy a diamond.
Awful Experience. A total waste of money. At the very least we expected to see diamonds being polished with an explanation from the polisher of what they were doing. This did not happen. One polisher spent all the time we were there on her phone. Another two just talked to each other. None of them tried to engage with myself or my partner. We would actively discourage others from this 'tour.' in the end we felt we spent €9.00 each to visit a jewellery store!
The tour was very insightful on how a raw diamond is turned in to the final jewel, both from a manufacturing perspective and also on the history. Well worth a visit for those interested in jewellery
While we did enjoy most of the museum we found some of the content in correctly titled and the audio visual in need of an update with some listening devices broken
It was not possible for us to get the QRCODE as well as the tickets before the events. We could not understand why.
Short but interesting visit offered in several languages (Spanish among others), with a competent and nice guide. At the end, you can admire different collections, including different sort and size of diamonds. Really appreciate the fact that you are not pushed to buy. A relaxing visit in a very convenient place (in the museums area).
A different experience. We can learn about the history of diamonds and other details. You can also see the fabric and store for free. Recommend.
We had a lovely time. The tour guide was knowledgeable and we got a free gift afterwards. We went here as part of a museum day in Amsterdam and can’t fault it really. It’s small but mighty!
Amazing and extraordinary! Every girl should visit this magical place! Staff was very friendly and polite and there is a discount on products between Christmas and New Year.
The room with all the “diamond” crowns was laughable. I swear, each description of each piece said something like “replica” or “recreation”, made of cubic zirconia. Some of the spotlights were out, making the exhibit kind of dark. They need to change the carpet in that place too. Overall, a huge letdown for a diamond museum in a city that is meant to be known for diamonds.
Diamonds… are always a girls best friend! Nice little museum that gives you some knowledge about diamonds and of course you are welcome to purchase on site!
Caster Diamonds has a free tour that gives you a look some of the work that goes into producing a stone, then ushers you into a showroom where you can see some lovely jewelry. The attached Diamond Museum is not free, but is more educational. Were I to do it again, I’d stop there first, then see the show room. I appreciated the benches out front. I waited there in the shade for my Van Gogh Museum time slot.
If you like wasting money, dismissive assistants, dust covered plastic gems, broken toilet seats and empty heist ticket machines this is the place for you.
We came here as part of an iamsterdam card. We came in a group of 14 with 8 children. The lady who we seen on arrival was rude beyond words! Barely spoke, when we clearly were confused about the set up. Once we were served she was ruder still. I collected 5 tickets for my family and 1 for a friend who was with us. She didn’t realise we needed a ticket to get in. Upon asking for her ticket from the lady she was spoken to abruptly and told, and I quote,” YOU walked off and I wasn’t running after you”! An “excuse me you need a to wait for your ticket” would of been sufficient! I actually would of asked for my money back if it wasn’t part of the card. Disgraceful!
I've been before as I got my engagement ring here so popped back but found the staff a bit off this time. The person who greeted us went to a very well dressed woman on a tour first and seemed pit out it was us who wanted help. He then asked if we wanted to stay downstairs while they did some work on my ring but we asked if we could go upstairs and he agreed. We were offered a drink but felt the while time he was not happy with us there. My first visit we spent a lot of money but I wanted to get a plain wedding band but I'm not sure he understood so I gave up. Everyone was pleasant but the initial disappointment in his look ruined this repeat visit for me.
Both the Heineken Experience and The Blue Boat Tour were very informative. Relaxing and at your own pace.
It would have been interesting to have learnt more about the cutting and polishing process involved in diamonds - which I was expecting to discover - but the visit was more about viewing different types of diamonds and then viewing diamond products. My wife bought a watch that was very nice, and the multi-lingual sales staff were informative. However, I think there should be more emphasis on education in the first half of the visit and reviewing products in the second half (which might also encourage more sales).
If you have a remote interest in diamonds, there’s nothing new you would have learned here. Not a word about blood diamond or even the process of making synthetic diamond. The only thing I’ve learned is that Amélie Mauresmo was the only winner of the Diamond Racquet! This is not surprising, because this museum is founded by a diamond polishing firm called Coster, that wants to lure you to go into the sales trap next door!
This was a very interesting museum. After a brief film, we wandered through all the displays. It was a sparkling adventure!!
Firstly it is quite expensive to enter. However I did feel that the self guided tour with good explanations including in English was insightful and I learnt a lot more about the evolution of diamonds. The museum enables you to understand the mining process as well as how they are cut, polished and graded. There are also replica displays of famous jewels from around the world. We found the staff to be a bit pompous which considering the price of entry was disappointing.
My son and I had a wonderful experience at the Diamond Museum Amsterdam. I even got a pair of diamond earrings. I am happy with my investment.
Very interesting and informative. Also liked watching the diamonds being polished in the factory too
Nice but not exciting. Since an appointment was required i was expecting a personal tour with live demonstration of cutting or setting. Instead it was a movie or written explanation of the displayed tools. The collection of crowns was amazing however. The selection of gift items was limited.
Enjoy the tour and love the history but the fun part was the diamond heist game, was great fun. Also added in another building showing how diamonds were polish.Very good activity.
We were in the area and decided to take a look. The admission price is a little high for what you get, although the museum was okay. Some good information on the history of diamonds. Some good presentations, some videos, some audio, and some replica displays.
Be very careful here! There is the actual Diamond Museum and then there is the nearby Coster diamond shop posing as a museum. The actual museum is interesting and does a good job (though with some quite dated materials) of describing the process of diamond mining, diamond cutting, marketing and design. It is worthy of 30-45 minutes if you are interested in mining and/or how diamonds are cut and polished - and particularly how this work was done in the days before the laser-cutting and other high tech processes of today. Then the warning - do NOT go to the Coster diamond shop/museum. While there is an opportunity to see a diamond actually being polished, the displays are very limited and repetitive of the actual Diamond Museum and the reality is that this is little more than a false front to shuffle you to the sales area. Really quite disappointing that a shop would be so blatantly deceptive as is this operation.
Not something special . It was a very nice museum with various of diamonds and the history about them. I would like to see more exhibits.
We are so glad this was included on our 1 Amsterdam card and we didn't actually have to pay for admission. This was a waste of time. It was small and not at all interesting. I did think the crown display was interesting. Way too many better museums in Amsterdam.
They never emailed me the scan code to enter so It took us 30 mins for the person to try find us in his system. He told us we were in the wrong place and go up the street to the warehouse diamond museum. He was wrong we were at the right place the 1st time. He finally just let us in. Once in it was extremely hot with no ventilation. For a diamond museum this place was cheap! Highly underwhelming! It was terrible. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!
This is just a welcome, less than 5 minute talk to shuffle you into the gift shop. Don't bother. There was nothing to educate about diamond cutting etc
All of the stuff essentially the crowns, the diamond is so beautiful and I just go to amsterdam like for see this museum
They have a really nice gallery! There is a game on top of the museum that’s really fun, we fell as Tom Cruise on mission impossible!
Highly recommend this tour if you would like to know more about diamond in general or diamond industry in Amsterdam. Great to have a guide with your native language. Thanks to my guide Jenny, I had a chance to learn and see something new. She is kind and patient, she has very good knowledge about diamond, she listened carefully to my questions and responded them professionally. One of my best experiences in Amsterdam !
What a lovely way to spend an hour or so. Our guide was so knowledgeable and answered the many questions my husband asked her. Such an interesting tour.
Very interesting museum. We enjoyed the tour and the shop afterwards. Great service and nice people.
Visited with my 11 year old son, museum is set up ok, mainly replica's due to security reasons off course. He really enjoyed the 'mission impossible" room on the second floor, gave him something to do after reading all about diamonds. The real treat was the visit to Coster Diamonds to see them working with real diamonds. Also the personal tour/explanation we got there was a real plus point and kept his attention.
Visited here with my family - two kids aged 11 & 14. It was fairly small place, that tells you everything you need to know about diamonds. A little repetitive and cheesy at times. Unfortunately, it just wasnt all that amazing because there weren't any spectacular diamonds to see, just replicas. It's ok if you have time to spare when in Amsterdam but I wouldnt go out my way to get here.
Worth a visit if you’re interested in diamonds, especially the polishing process and understanding quality measures. The museum itself is modest, but interesting. The showroom was lovely, and there was no pressure to purchase.
The tour was great, all professional, ordered and very well arranged. Exquisite elements, quite stunning. Do not miss it in Amsterdam!
If you want diamonds, this is the place, good discounts for tourists, otherwise don't go, there is not much to see here, just in the museum of diamonds.
This museum was just what I expected. The diamonds while fake for security reasons were beautiful and showed all the diamonds from Amsterdam for crowns, tiaras that the Royals throughout the world have used. I was surprised about the Asian and African crowns. The Shah of Persia (Iran) was there. beautiful. If you like diamonds this is a must.
Not that much to look at. A film at the start explaining about diamonds and how they are created and of the companies producing diamonds. Another room about how diamonds are created with a few bits of diamond jewellery and then another room with about 20 crowns which were mainly replicas. Also no provision for disabled people had to use the stairs.
