My wife and I had a superb experience with Teun and Holland Windmills. We overslept, but Teun allowed us to start late and actually gave us an additional half hour. He was knowledgeable and personable, a very good driver, and overall made the day’s outing special for us. He seemed to know a lot of people - a no tourist dairy farm stop, for example.

Itinerary
Step back into the 17th century at the historic windmill village of Zaanse Schans. Enjoy entry to a fully operational working windmill and watch the massive wooden gears turning. Walk along picturesque historic wooden mills and scenic waterways away from the large bus groups.
Explore the cobblestone streets, peaceful canals, and historic warehouses of Edam. Known world-wide for its cheese history, this quiet town features historic shipyards, unique tea houses, and grand 17th-century architecture.
Visit an authentic local farm to learn the craft of traditional Dutch cheesemaking and wooden clog crafting. Sample a wide variety of freshly made Gouda and Edam cheeses during an interactive tasting session.
Stroll through the historic maritime town of Monnickendam. Marvel at the iconic Speeltoren carillon tower, charming brick bridges, quiet inner harbors, and former fishing boats docked along the quay. Monnickendam is also the perfect stop for an optional lunch at a lovely waterside restaurant, known for its friendly staff, cozy ambiance, and high-quality food at reasonable prices.
Discover Broek in Waterland, one of Holland's most charming and aristocratic villages. Wander past pastel-colored wooden houses, manicured flower gardens, idyllic canals, and the historic 14th-century Broeker Church situated at the peaceful Havenrak harbor. Because large tourist buses are banned here, you can enjoy a quiet, authentic atmosphere off the beaten path.
Enjoy a scenic drive back to Amsterdam through the historic Waterland wetlands. We navigate peaceful country roads and narrow bridges through low-lying polder landscapes that large tourist buses cannot access. Relax as you pass classic green meadows, historic peatlands, winding canals, grazing cows, and picturesque church towers on the horizon—the quintessential Dutch countryside at its finest.

Philip knows every place and everyone, and generously shares them all. We experienced the history of the country and city through his stories and experiences and special access at each stop. Our windmill tour in particular was exceptional. I highly recommend you take a tour with him!
Tuen gives the best tours. He is personable, beyond knowledgeable, and interesting. Don’t miss his tour to the windmills, Edam, and the quaint, darling towns outside of Amsterdam. It is a different world. Scenic, quiet, rural, and fun
The tour guide / driver was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the area, Philip meet all our expectations and more. From windmills to little towns anda church to have a drink. Would strongly recommend. 2 thumbs up!!!
Definitely worth it for us. We did not have to deal with a bus load of others on someone else’s schedule. Our guide was excellent.
Philip, our guide and driver was amazing. We were taken to places and experienced things that we would not have on a group tour. Philip is a respected member of the Milling community and this added grately to our tour. We highly recommend.
We had a wonderful private countryside tour with Philip and thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was a perfect way to experience the beautiful Dutch countryside, charming villages, and local traditions outside Amsterdam. Philip was friendly, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to spend the day with. He shared interesting insights about Dutch history and culture, answered all of our questions, and made the entire experience feel personal and relaxed. We especially appreciated that we never felt rushed and had plenty of time to enjoy each stop. The tour was a great mix of sightseeing, local experiences, and time to simply enjoy the beautiful surroundings. One of the highlights of our trip to the Netherlands. Highly recommended!
What better way to visit the windmills than doing it with the ex-boss of windmills! Phillip was very relatable, friendly and informative. He will take you to the country side that is a nice contrast to the busy Amsterdam city Centre. Highly recommended. T
Philip took us to see the real Dutch countryside, complete with stories about its heritage and history. He took us to unique areas that were NOT crowded with tourists as per our request to stay off the beaten path. Philip was both extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. He never rushed us and let us spend as much time in the attractions that interested us the most, including the working saw windmill, the only one of its kind. A great tour and fun day with an excellent guide!
Philip our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He clearly loves his job. I very much appreciated the history and engagement throughout the day. I highly recommend
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommend this private tour! Thank you, Teun, for an amazing day exploring the windmills, cheese farm, and beautiful villages. Everything was perfectly organized, and having a private tour made the experience so relaxed and enjoyable. Five stars all the way!
Great cultural experience. Knowledgeable, helpful, pleasant guide. Bucket list item. Perfect for travelers of any age.
Fantastic tour guide, Wind mills history, cheese farm, great food. Got to see churches, towns and all the history to go along with it.
The tour itself was excellent, our tour guide Phillip was very knowledgeable, especially about the windmills, he even arranged for us to go up into a mill that nobdy else was allowed to go in. He even went out of the way to pick up one of our grou that at the airport that did not come on his original flight. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 is because he does not seem to like Americans and had a lot of snarky comments about them.
This was a private tour. Just 3 of us and our driver/guide. It was wonderful with a hotel pickup. We learned so much and could make any extra stop we wanted to for photos or more photos. No rush, personal, comfortable, fun, educational and our guide/driver Philippe was so personable and a wealth of knowledge. He made the day extra special and a great experience.
Philip was great! We had such a good day, and even our teenagers stayed engaged and interested. We had a behind the scenes tour of the windmills, and spent the rest of the day seeing the countryside.
We booked multiple tours while visiting Amsterdam and this tour was a BIG hit with our group. Phillip was entertaining and knowledgeable. He took us off the beaten path and we thoroughly enjoyed touring with him and highly recommend this tour!
My husband and I had the most amazing experience touring the Holland windmills and surrounding countryside with Teun. Teun is a wealth of knowledge and didn’t hesitate to answer any questions we had. In addition to touring the windmills, we visited several cute small towns outside of Amsterdam and ate lunch at a lovely restaurant near a beautiful marina. We visited a cheese farm where they also demonstrated how wooden clogs are made, but the real treat was touring a small local family dairy farm with baby cows! Thanks Teun for making our tour of Holland one we will always cherish!
This was such a great way to see the historic windmills, the countryside, small towns and visit a cheese factory and clog making demonstration in a private schedule. Totally stress free and our guide Teun was friendly, knowledgeable, good driver and flexible with our time as we were running a bit late. Such a great way to experience some of the most touristic sights without being coralled in a big bus. Very satisfied and would highly recommend this for anyone looking for a private experience.
This was an exceptional day in the small towns outside of Amsterdam. We had the privilege to enjoy our day with our guide Tuen. He was obviously proud of his home and was a wealth of knowledge. We loved experiencing the inner workings of the windmills, tasting many flavors of cheese, and driving through the tight streets in the villages. He chose a picturesque location for a delicious and authentic lunch. He worked extra hard to make every minute count and recognized the importance to get us back to the ship on time. Thanks a million Tuen (aka Mr. T)
Phillip was outstanding. He was Knowledgeable, courteous, safe and entertaining. He got us into behind the scenes places and was a pleasure to be with.
This tour was the highlight of our trip to Amsterdam. Philip was wonderful. We learned so much about the history of the windmills, and we even got to see a spice mill and saw mill up close and in person. We also really enjoyed spending the day with Philip, getting out of Amsterdam, having lunch with him and talking about his life and the Netherlands in general, and seeing beautiful villages we would have missed if we just stayed in Amsterdam. If you want to see some of the Netherlands outside of Amsterdam, just book this tour!
We had great private tour with our tour guide Teun. We saw several quaint Dutch villages, several windmills, a working dairy farm, learned how cheese and wooden shoes are made and so much more! It was an amazing fun filled adventure. We would never have been able to do this on our own. We would highly recommend this tour!
We had a very pleasant day with John visiting villages north of Amsterdam. He knows the area and people which made for a very smooth journey.
I wasn’t sure when I first met Phillip how this day would go. Clad in a dapper vest and a walk that showed purpose he began immediately with a warm welcome and a slight hint of Dutch dry wit. I did, however, realize that if the layers to this onion were peeled back the tour would truly take on a life of its own and be more than we had expected. I wasn’t wrong. We began in Amsterdam city center and from there ventured quickly out to the countryside. Simple facts and nuances were given as the drive saw the busy city disappear in the rear view mirror and more narrow less traveled roads, although worn, now hummed under the wheels of the car. Phillip seemed beyond knowledgeable, but I sensed a slight hesitation to avoid a deep dive of historical references. I thought, “well that just won’t due.” I prodded slightly for more information and what my wife and I witnessed was an opening of Pandora’s box culminating in a wealth of information and a deeper immersion of the Dutch way of life. Phillip unbridled gave us the most amazing perspectives on the people of Holland. Already a dry wit and say it like it is candor we observed the richness of his culture rise further above the simple cliche moments to a robust description of the people he calls his countrymen and women. Of course we saw windmills and tasted cheese. Obviously we learned about the clogs and watched a charming Dutch woman demonstrate the old technique of craftsmanship. And yes we walked tiny villages adorned with history, pride and beauty, but that isn’t what spoke to us, or at least not one individual thing. It was the collective of a way of life that navigated new built-up land in yet an old setting. Dykes and canals that protect the farms from overflow and people who have seen the effects of weather over time, the ravages of war and the modernization of an industry replacing all but a few operating relics of a time so perfectly and honorably preserved. As I chipped away the bark on a water soaked log in the shadow of a long standing sawmill the laughs and comments I heard coming from the old men watching me find my stride whispered of shock that a visitor would roll up his sleeves and truly give it a go. I surly couldn’t understand the words being said but i understood the body language. It was a pride that i felt too in that moment honoring their craft. Paying my respects to the old way and also letting them know that I was aware this was a hard endeavor to de-bark a tree. Oh no I was not being laughed at, the laughing was with me as they saw me strike and scare up for more. It was truly a remarkable moment. And yes Phillip all right there in the mix making this moment happen. Baiting me along in the only Dutch way he can, with direct to the point ribbing and dry as the sawdust under the windmill wit possible. In that moment I’m not sure who was having more fun, me striking the tree, the old men clamoring for a view, Phillip egging me on or my wife with the camera making sure for the rest of time I have this moment. This level of depth continued throughout the day with Phillip’s world views from all his travel and life’s experiences. His rich knowledge of history fueled the mystique of the land we got to experience and see. I can’t recommend more this tour. I am truly honored to have seen this beautiful area and not just through the lens of a selfie or snapshots that are beautiful but without depth. This was an immersion into a full life moment. My wife and I were transported into a magical place. This is not just a tour, this is master class in Dutch life. And we only scratched the surface. Thank you Phillip.
Highly recommended for a small group (2-6 people). The country north of Amsterdam is a true treasure trove of incredibly interesting experiences, like why the invention of saw mills changed the course of world history. We saw multiple working windmills, cheese/diary farms, churches, etc. We highly recommend this tour with Philippe in his very comfortable over-sized van.
Teun took us on a tour of interesting and beautiful sites. His commentary was outstanding, giving us history and background information!
Our guide was wonderful and shared a great deal of information about the area. He was able to modify the tour to fit our family's interests. Would definitely recommend this tour.
My wife and I had a wonderful day with Teun. He is a very knowlegable and friendly guy and was open to our ideas, changes and thoughts to make the day special for us. Teun knows where the big tour buses are and if you are on his same page will avoid them wherever possible. Hitting areas and traveling on roads where the large group aren't are the the reasons we booked this trip. Teun delivered. We had a great time.
This private tour was great! The windmill tour of a working sawmill was wonderful. Tom took us to a lot of little cities and a wonderful place to stop and have lunch. He even drove back a half an hour to retrieve my cellphone that I had left in a bathroom. I will be forever thankful to him for doing that. We had extra time at the end of the tour to go by the neighborhood where he grew up. I would highly recommend this tour!
So many great things to say about this. Our guide, Philip, was fantastic. Perfect English, funny stores, great personality. He made sure our 17 year old son was involved and kept him engaged as well. Philip used to work at a windmill so he knew everything about them and was able to introduce us to several of the people still working there. Delicious lunch at a classic hotel in Edam, and a family owned cheese and clog farm instead of the usual tourist areas capped off the day. He was a big help suggesting places to visit and others to avoid. If you can do this tour with Philip you will not regret it.
One of the best tours in my life - everything was perfect! Our guide was very professional, friendly and made our trip very enjoyable and memorable . We had fantastic time!
Philip was an absolutely wonderful guide for our day trip to visit the windmills, cheese and clog making demonstrations and a beautiful tour of the outskirts of Amsterdam! He got us exclusive access to a windmill that doesn't normally allow tourists. It was fascinating seeing the workings from the inside! We also had a personal cheese making and clog making demonstration. Philip also took us to a lovely waterfront restaurant for lunch. We enjoyed talking with him as he not only had a ton of knowledge about Amsterdam and the Netherlands, but of the rest of the world as well. Everyone in the family, including my 10 and 12 year old kids thought this was a fantastic day and a true highlight of our visit to Amsterdam. We would all recommend this trip!
Our tour with Phillip was beyond our expectations. We went to Zaanse Schans windmill village, Edam, Simonehoeve cheese and clog factory and the beautiful fishing village of Monnickendam where we also had a delicious lunch. Beyond that we visited beautiful countrysides, saw old homes, farms and meadows with the huge Holstein cows. In the quiet and quaint village of Broek we saw a unique church with a bar at the alter. (Yes, there is a story but I will leave that to Phillip to share). Phillip was not only friendly and made us feel so comfortable and welcome but he was a wealth of knowledge. We learned so much from him and his experiences it just made our tour much more meaningful. We went to places we would never have seen on a larger tour and our experience at the windmill seeing the windmill actually working was most enjoyable. Phillip was truly passionate about sharing his knowledge and we so appreciated our time with him. Want to see the real Amsterdam? Then you really must do this tour with Phillip. Thank you Phillip!!!!

We had an exquisite time on our tour of North Holland! From windmills to cheese tastings to seeing baby calves on a private farm, this was an idyllic tour of the Dutch countryside. Teun, our guide, was fantastic, providing in depth information throughout the trip. 100% will recommend to all family and friends who may visit The Netherlands in the future!
Teun will bring you outside the usual places. He’s great. He’s nice. He’s untiring. Church with a bar. Farm with animals. Dine at a small town. So many surprises.
Phillip was positively exceptional from start to finish!!! His knowledge and expertise second to none …. Behind the scenes look at the mills from a miller - superb! Hidden gem spot for lunch was truly a treat, not to mention the cheese tasting and wooden shoe experience- SIMPLY the Best!!! Any viator visitor would be lucky to have him!
Philip H. was so knowledgeable about the places we went to. We learned so much about the windmills and how they were used in the past and what is happening today. We were able to go see Linseed oil being made and were surprised at how this seed (flax seed) is used to make paint. Then he told us how the Dutch and Brits use it. Then he took us off the beaten path to see beautiful small towns, taste and learn about cheese as well as see wooden shows being made. The icing on the cake was the lunch we had in a church that also is a cemetery inside. Philip was also very engaging and accommodating to some mobility issues we had. I have taken quite a few private tours and Philip and this tour are at the top of my list!
We had a great tour with Teun. He was very pleasant and informative. We saw the windmills and had a great experience at the cheese factory. I would highly recommend this tour and Teun.
It was delightful seeing the windmills of Holland and all the quaint little villages. The wine and cheese tasting was great. Our guide was Fantastic. We had a Great time and highly ethos tour
Our guide Teun knew so much about the Netherlands! It was wonderful to have a private tour without all the hustle and bustle of a big bus. He took us to spaces most tours don’t go and told us all the tidbits. They picked us up at our hotel and gave us recommendations of restaurants and attractions with links. It was worth every penny! Thanks Teun!
The views were amazing!! We enjoyed seeing this part of Amsterdam! The tour guide was very knowledgeable. Amsterdam is beautiful!!!
Teun provided a very informative and enjoyable 7 hour comprehensive day tour which included an in depth tour of the windmills, cheese farm, and clog making. We explored many small towns including Zaanse Schan, Marken, Volendam , had a lovely lunch in a fishing village, views a cattle farm and ending in a quaint old village of Church Broch. Great guide! Highly recommend!!
It was just awesome. Our driver/guide Philip was extremely knowledgeable, couteous, took us to places which otherwise wouldn't have been possible in a group tour.
This guided tour was the best part of our trip to the Netherlands. The tour guide, Philip, was great. We got to see and learn so much about the Netherlands and its windmills, countryside, etc. This private tour was so much better than a big group tour. We strongly recommend this tour!!
Philip was an amazing guide. Took us to places coaches could not get to. Very knowledgeable historian. Very relaxed day with great lunch venue seeing windmills, cheese facility and clogg making. Philip adapted the trip to suit us. Going inside the working mill was the highlight.
This was an outstanding tour! Tuen was an excellent host and a wealth of information! We were able to tailor the itinerary to our tastes very easily. Tuen was also excellent about trying to avoid crowded spots where the tour busses and masses of people were. I would highly recommend this private tour over a group one. It was very personalized and we all loved it! And Tuen was fantastic!
We were lucky to have Teun and Phillip, both part-owners of the company, as the guides for our family of 9. We actually went on two tours with them- one to Keukenhof and Delft, and one which was a highlights of Holland tour. I was hesitant to use the same company twice, in case we didn't like them the first time, but they didn't disappoint. From the get-go, they were welcoming and friendly. They also took special care in accommodating my dad, who can't walk quickly or for long distances, taking breaks as needed, or even going to get the cars for us so he didn't have to walk as much. If we ever go back to the Netherlands, we will definitely be getting in touch with them again!
Our guide took us through amazing small towns, into fascinating windmills, and to Edam where we got to see cheese being made and how clogs are made. Our tour was 7 hours and it flew by. Philip was fantastic we highly recommend this tour guide!
