Anyone visiting Amsterdam for the first time should take a boat ride on the canals because it is the waterways and their history that define the city. And Amsterdam Boat Adventures provided a great tour. There's is a small boat which can be open or more closed depending on the weather. The size made for a much more personal experience because you are really there with a guide. For a 10:30 AM sail, my wife and I were the only passengers. Our guide was great, explaining the canal system and many of the sights we passed. I chose this tour because it is referenced in Rick Steve's guidebook to Amsterdam. He was right, it is a wonderful tour.
Our family of 5 - ranging in age from 0 to mid sixties - enjoyed our cruise with Joe tremendously. He was engaging, knowledgeable and entertaining and we learned a lot about present and past Amsterdam. Would 100% recommend!
The captain and boat were so nice. It was such a great relaxing way to see the city. Definitely recommend doing with a group!
A wonderful tour of the Amsterdam canals. The boat and especially Captain Eddie were fantastic. I highly recommend it. One of the highlights of our visit to Amsterdam.
This was a great canal tour. In the past I did 2 other canal tours with different operators and this was by far the best. First of all - an hour and a half is a perfect amount of time to see so much at a relaxed pace. There was a great combination of fun and laughs along with interesting explanations (by our fantastic guide, Antila). Went with my husband an 11 year old son - both also loved it, my 11 year old was very engaged! I highly recommend this tour.
Amazing tour. Great value for money. Eddie is fantastic.
Attila was our tour guide and it was very relaxing. He was very knowledgeable about the architecture and the whole history of Amsterdam. We had a nice group with us and it was just it was an open boat on a beautiful day and it was just a perfect tour.
We booked a 1.5 hour canal cruise, departing at 11.10am. We easily found the departure point & were met by Jamie who was welcoming & friendly. It was a little rainy during our tour however we did not feel uncomfortable at all. Jamie ensured everyone on board was dry & comfortable. Jamie's commentary was informative & easy to listen to. We chatted with others on board - small group tours are the best. We would highly recommend this company & their tour offerings.
Adam was very knowledgeable about Amsterdam’s history. Great tour-would recommend especially to get a good overview of the city.
This is a very nice way to see Amsterdam! Silent, electric, comfortable boat, and a well prepared captain with very good knowledge of Amsterdam. Highly recommendable!
Great tour - good value, easy to find. Captain Griffin was excellent!
Our captain Gus was friendly, fun and knowledgeable, bringing his personal insights of Amsterdam to the tour. He spoke just enough about the sights and history. The small boat was super quiet and comfortable with perfect views for everyone. We saw the sun set and the full moon rise. An ideal evening!
This was a lovely little tour and the ideal intro to Amsterdam. The host guide was knowledgeable and local and struck the ideal vibe that reflects the history and culture of the city
This tour was the highlight of our 3-day stay. Our guide Griffen was engaging, funny and informative. The boat was clean, comfortable and it was so great to be able to go through the narrow canals that the big boats can’t. I highly recommend this tour!
Adam was a great guide. The trip was fun and very interesting
A great quick canal tour! I was pregnant on this trip so we didn’t want a longer 3 hour drinking trip. Our guide was funny, informative, showed us great spots for views and brought us to so many different types of neighborhoods. I’m really glad we chose this over some of the bigger company tours.
Our weather was terrible - cold and raining do dress appropriately. The boat was not well sealed so most of the seat cushions were wet. I would have liked more commentary on the places we passed.
Super, nice Captain. Knows everything worth knowing about Amsterdam.
Brilliant 90-minute tour with Captain Griffin, an American who has lived in Amsterdam for five years and knows the city and its canals inside out. With only 12 guests, it's personal and informative, and the small boat gets into narrow waterways the big cruisers can't reach. There's a canopy if it rains. At €29, it's excellent value. Highly recommended!
Captain Atilla was great! He was knowledgeable, fun and the boat was very comfortable. Would highly recommend him.
Captain Guus provided a wonderful boat tour of Amsterdam’s old city center. His knowledge of the area is remarkable, and his character was charming. Guus speaks English very clearly so there was never a struggle to understand him. The pace of his presentation was spot-on; we never felt rushed. We feel that all tourists will be fully satisfied with Guus as their guide.
Attila was a pure joy. Providing a personalized experience where he met all of us where we were at and let our curiosity drive the information.
Great tour with Guss, friendly with knowledge of Amsterdam. We were met with a yank that started our trip with good conversation.
This is a laid back, enjoyable tour with a guide who has spent his life here & loves Amsterdam (Captain Eddie). We loved it! In a smaller boat you can go down some neighborhood canals and get a real feel for the city. We highly recommend this tour with Captain Eddie!
This might not be the bargain of your lifetime, but with 90 minutes, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and insights and fun facts that you're not likely to get on the bigger tours, it's highly recommended. Kudos to Griffin for being an excellent captain and tour guide.
This is certainly a wonderful introduction to Amsterdam! Our guide/captain Eddie was humorous, relaxed, and very knowledgeable.
A really lovely gentle boat ride round the canals of Amsterdam with Captain Eddie! There were 4 of us with our dog and Eddie made us feel really welcome. The weather started out a little rainy and so Eddie had the rain cover all prepared so we were nice and dry. Great commentary on the sights as well as day to day living in Amsterdam. Sun started to shine ro rain cover came off. Best of both worlds. A great tour - would recommend!
It was the highlight of our weekend in Amsterdam. Guus was great and very knowledgeable. We would highly recommend it.
More expensive than other tours, but the small group size, modern boat and excellent guide, Joan, was worth it.
Amazing trip which showed a lot of Amsterdam’s famous landmarks, and very interesting facts as well. Captain/Guide Eddie was very funny and knew a lot about the history of the city. Would really recommend this!
We were a group of 4 friends for this boat tour. No one else came so we had the whole boat to ourselves! Capt. Julia was lovely and we enjoyed discussing Amsterdam with her greatly. She's a fountain of knowledge and it's clear she has a deep love for the city. The boat itself was absolutely what we were looking for for this type of tour. It was open air with an awning for strong sun or rain. I prefer this much more than the enclosed boats or ones with the plastic windscreens. The seats were very comfortable and spacious. We had a great time! One small suggestion would be for the company to provide some type of signage to help guests locate the boat more easily. The address provided gives the general location but not a specific boat slip.
This was definitely a trip highlight for us. We did the 8:30-10pm small boat tour. Our guide Attila was charming and interesting. The boat was very comfortable and quiet and we appreciated the blankets and comfy seats. It was nice to start the tour in daylight and then have it gradually turn to night while you’re on the boat. We really enjoyed this and totally recommend it.
Captain Griffin is wonderful. He is American so shares those perspectives. He is very knowledgeable and helpful.
Captain Atilla was such a great guide. He shared stories from his own explorations of Amsterdam and took us to quieter places as well as the hustle and bustle . Showcasing the beauty of Amsterdam from the water while sharing his wealth of information about the different districts, architecture and history. It was a smooth ride through a beautiful city. And our captain made it extra fun. We had a full tour, 12 people but it wasn’t crowded. And Atilla would pause at particularly scenic areas so we could stand to get even better view and pictures. Lovely time on the water. Would highly recommend the tour.
Joe was an amazing guide with a wealth of knowledge. We learned a lot and enjoyed the relaxing ride through the canals.
We went to the 10:30 tour and it was lovely! If you're looking for a little family owned operation, a more intimate / small group adventure, and great tour guides (Captain Julia is the best and only female guide of the group!), this is a great choice. Highly recommend.
I booked as I did not want the tourist trap options (despite being a tourist!) and wanted to understand more about the city. We attended as a party of three. Travelling as a lone parent with my two sons 12 and 15 , we were with three couples and our captain, Jamie. we all really enjoyed the experience and I can’t recommend it enough for any parties - my sons loved it, I did and I would do it again next time I visit with or without them. It was informative, stylish, relaxing and interesting to see the city from the canal and Jamie was kind, chilled and knowledgeable. The boys loved that he showed us the primary school he attended- a true local and we all valued his love and insights of his city greatly. Highly recommended
Jamie was a very knowledgeable and friendly local host. The trip was really enjoyable and would highly recommend it if you’re after a small group boat trip, as opposed to the larger tourist boat trips.
Very relaxing and comprehensive tour of the city's waterways with a pleasant and very informative guide. The boat is equipped with sun shades for hot weather and a store of reasonably priced drinks including water, cold beer, and chilled rosé
Super nice tour with Guus, who made it a very custom experience with great crowd interaction, exactly what we hoped for.
Lovely evening cruise around Amsterdam’s canals with just 9 of us in the boat with Skipper Atilla. And what a well-informed, entertaining and thoroughly laid back guide he is. Can’t recommend this experience highly enough. Thank you Amsterdam Boat Adventures and Captain Atilla for a memorable evening.
What a nice, comfortable, easy and funny boat trip through the canals of Amsterdam. Our whole family enjoyed it very much and loved to listen to cäptn Julias hints and storys. Worth every Euro.
Great tour! Julia did a great job to show us the sights. Our 11 months old enjoyed it and got to take a great nap on mom.
Adam was an amazing tour guide! His discussion of historical, economical, natural, political, and cultural items, as well as his personal experience was phenomenal.
Nice relaxing way to see the canals. Our guide was super knowledgeable and very friendly. Would definitely recommend
Captain Eddie was an amazing tour guide. Really fun and relaxing 90-min experience seeing beautiful Amsterdam. Captain Eddie was a great and knowledgeable host, and also knew when to pause the commentary and let the magnificence of the scenery take center stage. Highly recommend!
Wonderful guide with good sense of humor. Very informational! Highly recommend!
Captain Julia is absolutely awesome and so knowledgeable, funny and very articulate. Captain Julia made our canal cruise tour a true delight!
We went on the Amsterdam Canal Tour by Open Boat, July 23. It was a small group. Our captain, Joe, had us introduce ourselves with a brief comment about ourselves before the tour began. When the boat started moving Joe told us how the canals came to be, and how Amsterdam got its name. He talked about interesting sites as we made our way through the canals. We all shouted out questions along the way, and Joe gladly answered them. It’s a fun informative 90 minutes. We’re glad we didn’t miss this tour!
