Everyone needs to witness this part of history and never forget it. The guide was so well informed and the walk through this part of Amsterdam was hauntingly beautiful. Don’t miss this.
This was an excellent experience. Our guide James, was a true historian, with a friendly conversational manner. He was very receptive to questions and encouragement our input. Highly recommend!
Aaron was very Knowledgeable, interesting and amusing. Would highly recommend a Semi-guided Tour with Aaron. Jeanette from Canada
Aaron was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the history behind Amsterdam and the Jewish Quarter.
Great tour. Very knowledgeable guide. Easy walking. Rich in details about the impact of the war & the Nazis on the Jews of Amsterdam & the Netherlands
One thing that’s important to know is that this is not a tour that includes Anne Frank’s house. Our tour guide, Marion, made that clear at the very beginning of the tour, but offered to include a walk (about 45 min) to see the house from outside. Otherwise, it was a great overview of Jewish monuments & architecture, with lots of historical information provided by our guide. There is a fair amount of walking.
Aaron was a terrific guide. Very informative and had strong customer service. Recommend the tour. Of note, it is about Anne Frank and the Jewish Quarter. The tour is not around the house.
This was a marvelous tour. Our guide was so kind, informative, and had absolutely expert knowledge. I would encourage anyone with interest to take this tour. A very powerful experience about a dark chapter in Amsterdam's history.
The Jewish quarter tour is excellent! Never knew such things existed till our guide brought us there
Aaron was very knowledgeable, engaging and really seemed to like what he was doing. We felt lucky that he was our tour director.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable.
Our guide was amazingly knowledgeable-and we really enjoyed the tour. The description of the tour and the picture on it was misleading specific to visiting Anne Frank house, which is not included.
Meaningful experience without being too heavy for teenage travelers. Our guide, James, was knowledgeable and sensitive to the history.
The experience and was completely worth it. This thing has a character minimum of 100 characters so I am writing this to reach the minimum req.
You need to know that you do not even see the house that Anne Frank lived in. Our tour ended 1.5km from that home. That was very disappointing for us. The guide, Aaron was very knowledgeable about the history from WW2 but that was only part of what we expected.
Walked through Jewish Quarter with knowledgeable, personable tour guide. Would be interesting particularly for history buffs. A truly dark time in history. Tour doesn’t include walking by Anne Frank’s house.
James was a great guide. Well informed and well prepared. Hit many hi lights of the Jewish Quarter. Smooth all the way.
Tour was very informational, spent the right amount of time at each stop. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. Learned many facts about how the Jewish people were treated and how some of them survived by hiding. Great tour and would recommend it.
Our tour guide was very knowledgable and the tour covered a lot of points of interest. This was a wonderful tour.
Very educational, good pace, learned more about what happened to the entire Jewish community vs just seeing the Anne Frank house.
Great tour. Many interesting facts. Amazing guide - James is extremely knowledgable person. Highly recommend.
We thoroughly enjoyed this walking tour. It provided a powerful, deeply respectful look into Amsterdam’s history during WWII. We learned so much more than we expected about the regional Jewish community, their vibrant culture, and the challenges they faced. The guide, James, did an incredible job of weaving Anne Frank's personal story into the broader history of the neighborhood. Please note that this is entirely an outdoor walking tour; it does not take you inside the office or the Secret Annex where Anne Frank and her family hid. However, seeing the surrounding area completely changed how we viewed the city's architecture and historic sites. We high recommend this tour
The guide was informative and knowledgeable. He engaged the group and had an American father and Dutch mother so his perspective was interesting. We enjoyed learning about the sights he pointed out.
Very interesting experience. Highly recommend . James was great and gave great information. Good pace.
Aaron was an excellent tour guide, combining his strong historical knowledge and storytelling talents together to make this a memorable experience.
Don't miss this beautiful tour! James is a fantastic guide and I was amazed at all I saw and learned today. Well worth the time and effort!
Our guide Aaron gave us a most interesting and informative tour on the Jewish quarter. He is well educated in the area and very well spoken. The tour points out significant locations such as where the people had to register as Jews, where the Jewish council was, where they got their stars and so on. It also visits the memorial and explains the Hunger winter. Aaron is extremely knowledgeable about the Holocaust and we learned so much.
Best tour hands down! Our guide, Aaron was extremely knowledgeable and was able to explain any question you asked! He is truly one of the best tour guys we have ever had. Not knowing much of the history prior, we left with a wealth of information. Despite the rainy weather, Aaron was able to find dry spots and cover everything about the Jewish area!
Aaron was very knowledgeable, HOWEVER, he did not come prepared for a rain or shine tour. We did NOT see 1/2 of what we were supposed to see and were left 30 mins walk away from the Anne Frank museum/house. The whole group (8) were left to fend for ourselves to the final destination. We were told it was a rain or shine and we all came prepared but not Aaron. We definitely should get at least reimbursed for half the tour as it was not at all what we paid for!!!!!
Tour guide was incredible. We learnt so much, he is so knowledgeable and has a very pleasant disposition. Highly recommend this
Our tour guide, Scarlett, was a fount of information. There was so much to see and learn about that we wished the tour was about 30 minutes longer.
This was a good tour until about the halfway point when our guide was confronted, cited and fined by the police for not having a valid tour operator license. The tour abruptly ended standing on the street. Hoping for a50% refund since we got half a tour
James is terrific. Learned much more than we ever expected. A must in Amsterdam. Tells much more of the actual events during this time.
James was our tour guide and he was fantastic. It's hard to put into words exactly what one should feel while on this tour. With everything that's going on in the world, it felt extra special to take this tour on Dodenherdenking (Remembrance Day) this year. I took one star off because the tour really needs to be renamed without Anne Frank in the title. The tour talks about the family a lot and therefore should absolutely remain in the description. I read reviews and descriptions extremely carefully and therefore knew exactly what to expect. Of course, a very nice couple showed up thinking they were going to the Anne Frank House and you could feel their disappointment. The title and photo just feels a little 'bait-y'. Like others have said, if you can't get into the Anne Frank House, you'll definitely get a broad perspective of what that community as a whole experienced on this tour. I found this from a travel blog that recommended it if you couldn't get tickets to the House and like I said above, it did not disappoint.
Very interesting and informative tour! Our guide was incredible and had an amazing way of telling the harsh and cruel history of the jews in Amsterdam during WW2. He was good at including us in the tour and he clearly didn’t just talk from a rehearsed script but from knowledge and interest for the history. Would definetly recommend to everyone interested in WW2 and history in general.
James was such a terrific guide!! He was so very knowledgable about this very important historical area. This tour was especially important as we took it on Remembrance Day. While most tourists just visit the Anne Frank house, this tour adds a whole deeper level of understanding to this area known as the Jewish Quarter. We now even have some followup to do on our own as James suggested several books to read and series to watch!! Very well worthwhile and would highly recommend!!!
James was an excellent tour guide It was a great way to start our Amsterdam adventure Would recommend
Wonderful and very informative tour—learned so much. Request JAMES, if possible—he was an AMAZING guide!!
The tour guide of the Jewish district in Amsterdam was remarkable- calm, thoughtful and deeply knowledgeable. He shared insights about the holocaust that I never heard before, and just as importantly, he helped us understand how such atrocities unfolded in full view of everyday people. His ability to present such difficult history with clarity and depth made the experience both moving and unforgettable. Without question, this was one of the best and unique tours of my travels- do not miss it!
Our guide James gave an excellent & informative tour. It was a well paced story & walk around the Jewish neighbourhood showing the impact of the nazi occupation on Jewish Community of Amsterdam. Revealing the unrecognised memorials & landmarks that tell the story. A recommended tour for your time in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam is an amazing city with unimaginable history. I learned so much during our tour of the Jewish quarter in Amsterdam. Our tour guide was a professor in Amsterdam. He was so passionate about the Amsterdam’s history. We toured so many amazing historical sites with its background history. We loved this tour. If you are looking for a memorable historical amazing tour, this is for you!
Our guide was very genuine and clear. We got more information about this area than if we had just gotten on a tour of the Anne Frank House. Highly recommend this tour.
We never saw the Anne Frank house which is why I signed up to go. The tour was over and someone said “ we didn’t see the Anne Frank house” he said it’s just down the street and pointed in the direction…,,that’s why I took the tour! I was disappointed and had to find it myself which took awhile as this was my first time here.
James was passionate and knowledgeable about Jewish history in Amsterdam. I would definitely recommend him to friends. He showed us places we would never have known about.
This is a really worthwhile small group walking tour of the area known as the Jewish quarter during WW2. James are guide was so knowledgeable, affable, easy to understand and very open up discussion and questions. He showed things it would be easy to walk past - eg small plagues embedded in the stone paths and explained their meaning, took us to two memorials - the Jewish names listed in alphabetical order of the 130 000 Jewish killed in WW2 in Amsterdam, and the Auschwitz memorials as well as the building where the Jews were held before deportation. It was all moving and so interesting.
Our guide James was very knowledgeable and helpful!!! Though we did not see the Anne Frank house, we would do this again!
Good intro to the history associated with the Jewish community in Amsterdam. Tour introduces you to concept of Stoppelsteins, frames the history of how the ghetto came to be. Erin was very knowledgeable and did a great job in providing his historical perspective and his personal insights given his studies in genocide.
Outstanding tour, very informative. You will learn about history that you never imagined and see many different interesting monuments and symbols of world war two history.
James was very personable and Knowledge. He was a great tour guide. I thought we would have walked to Ann Frank's house (at least to see it from the outside). However, James showed us some sights that were not well known as well asthose known. Very impactful tour. We will never forget.
