Itinerary
Our adventure begins in Piazza Tasso, the beating heart of Sorrento. Here your local guide welcomes you with insights into the city’s history and food culture before the tastings begin.
Our first tasting is a light and delicious local treat in a historic pastry shop. This sweet treat works as a perfect palate cleanser and welcome to the flavors of Sorrento.
Sit back and relax at a traditional family-run dairy and salumeria, where you’ll sample fresh cheeses, local cured meats, and a glass of regional wine—an authentic highlight of the tour.
Time for one of Sorrento’s most beloved dishes: homemade gnocchi alla Sorrentina. Served in a cozy family osteria, this stop captures the warmth of local tradition.
Step inside a historic limoncello producer to taste their original recipe, crafted since 1884, along with unique variations such as limoncello cream and melon liqueur.
Discover a historic shop celebrating Sorrento’s famous lemons. Here you’ll sample traditional lemon biscuits and candies, made with the same citrus that gives limoncello its world-renowned flavor. A light, refreshing stop that captures the sweeter side of Sorrento.
A surprise cultural stop off the beaten path: visit a tucked-away artisan workshop, a true hidden treasure of Sorrento’s tradition of craftsmanship.
We end in Piazza Lauro with a unique Sorrentine pastry and rich Neapolitan espresso, the perfect conclusion to a relaxed, authentic food adventure.

We all thoroughly enjoyed this tour! Lori’s, our guide, was the key. He was passionate about the local food scene, and seemed to know everyone in Sorrento. The food was amazing; easily the best gnocchi I’ve ever had. After the tour, Lori’s was kind enough to follow up with restaurant recommendations for both Sorrento and Napoli! If you like food, I highly recommend this tour.
It was wonderful. Lori’s was personable and knowledgeable. We ate and drank our way across Sorrento.
Giovanni was amazing! Highlight of our trip!!! We learned so much about the Sorrento culture and the skilled artisans from here ! Every single place we stopped was well worth it! We highly recommend !!
Giovanni was an excellent host… Lots of yummy authentic Sorrento food. Only 4 of us in group so it was great. Would highly recommend
Giovanni was the perfect host. The food was outstanding and only 4 of us in the group. This was the highlight of Sorrento. It’s a must do ❤️
Giovanni took us to shops and restaurants and introduced us to the locally produced foods and drinks. Without his guide, we wouldn't be able to pick these stores by ourselves since we are new to the place and there are so many stores in the area. It would be impossible to for us to pick a good one. We went to a Gelateria, delicatessen, limoncello shop, gnocchi restaurant, and a bar. While walking around the main shopping streets, he pointed the famous landmarks and gave some information about them. It was fun, tasty, and informative.
10+++ Giovota was our guy today outstanding everything about it. It wasn’t only a food tour. It was a tour of his town and it was absolutely amazing. He exceeded our expectations.
We had a great tour around Sorrento with Giovanni. He was extremely accommodating by moving our tour a day earlier following our plans changing which was great. He provided a great history of Sorrento (being a local) and some fantastic food and drinks stops to try local dishes, from restaurants to small local grocery stores. They only take 10 people on each tour, giving it a more personable experience, and there were only four on our trip, so it was great. Would highly recommend for those looking to learn more about the history of Sorrento and try some fantastic food. Giovanni also provided us with a list of local restaurants, and we tried one on our last night (Donna Sofia) which was really good :-)
We did this food tour on our first day in Sorrento. We loved it! Giovanni took us to off the beaten path places where the locals eat. Everything was delicious and there was plenty of food. We had just enough walking between restaurants to be ready for the next tasting. We got an overview of the town and a list of his favorite restaurants for the next few days that we will be here. I highly recommend this tour.
The food-tasting tour of Sorrento was a wonderful experience. It involved several stops at family-owned businesses, which we appreciated. Our tour guide, Loris, was kind, friendly, informative, and humorous. I highly recommend this tour with Loris.

The food tour was excellent. We enjoyed our time with Giovanni. In addition to the fabulous food he introduced us to, he also pointed out city landmarks that we would have missed on our own. We would definitely recommend this tour.
This was such a great way to explore Sorrento! A little history, a little walking, GREAT FOOD and limoncello with chocolate! We had a fun group and that helps!
Giovanni has an excellent knowledge of Sorrento and balanced our tasting tour with an historical perspective of the city. We benefited from the relationship he has developed with the providores and artisans we visited with him. The food and wine sampled was delicious and was representative of the area. A tour with Giovanni is a great way to get know Sorrento and some of the things it has given to the world. We had a wonderful day with him (and you won't need to have dinner).
We had THE greatest food tour of Sorrento with Giovanni. It was a small group of 8 so we were able to hear easily and enjoy each other’s company while learning about local food and artisan traditions. We not only visited food stops but local cultural stops and artisan stores. Well worth the price and you can feel the authenticity of Giovanni’s passion for his community. We booked through Trip Advisor however you can book direct at Varriale Experiences which I would have done had I known.
We went on the food tasting tour today with Varriale Experiences. Everything was exceptional. Giovanni was a fantastic guide. In addition to the wonderful food, wine and limoncello, Giovanni pointed out Sorento sights we would have missed. We would definitely recommend this tour
Giovanni provided an amazing guide and we loved his itineraries! We recommend that you start with his tour to get a feel for sorrento ( food, culture and just maneuvering this cute area. ) Meeting another couple from England was so much fun too. This was a small and intimate tour!
What a perfect experience to start your Sorrento trip. Slow paced guide, with informative Sorrento secrets with amazing tastes along the route!!!! Highly recommended
While Giovanni was our amazing tour guide, he advises that he's also the company owner and the creator of the tour. We met at the Tasso statue and walked to the various locations. While we didn't walk far, we were all over the area. During the tour we tasted over 15 different items. Our personal favorites were the caprese at a local deli, crema limoncello, and gnocchi, all made locally. Giovanni is extremely knowledgeable and easy to listen to. He knows a lot about the food and shops, but also about the local scene and history. He was born and raised in Sorrento and it shows up in his enthusiasm. After the tour he sent us lists of some other favorite food places and local spots such as museums. There was more than enough food and wine was also supplied. All the shops were within 15-20 minute walk from the starting point. We also saw an inlaid wood factory, which is a dying art in Sorrento. There were products for sale but it was not pushed. The presentation on how to make them was very interesting and informative. I highly recommend this tour both to get a flavor of Sorrento and for getting flavorful Sorrento!
What an enjoyable way to see the less "touristy" side of Sorrento. First of all, our guide was excellent! Giovanni was friendly and knowledgeable, but more importantly he took us to places we might not have visited on our own. He seemed to know everyone and each stop felt like we were visiting a friend's home. Even after the tour was complete he stayed in contact and gave us a great recommendation for Naples' best pizza. Thank you Giovanni! We also took the tour with another couple and the fellowship we experienced was an unexpected benefit. Walking through the narrow market streets, each of us seemed to take turns walking and talking to Giovanni, but that gave the rest of us in our little group the chance to connect. Experiencing the evening with fellow travelers made the tour even more memorable. The tour itself was wonderful. It followed a path that started at Piazza Tasso and wound its way through some interesting local sites as we moved from tasting to tasting. A special shout-out to Biagio Barile, the wood inlay shop - such an unexpected gem. From delicate little boxes to astonishing chess boards their workmanship is unparalleled. As for the food, we ate and drank enough to constitute a meal yet we never felt full because we walked everywhere. The food stops covered a representative range of local delicacies and they followed each other like a meal, from starters to dessert. Of particular note was the fresh fior di latte DOP, a unique mozzarella-like cheese produced only in the Sorrento area. The dairy we visited made it that day and it was a delicious balance of texture and flavor. The gnocchi alla sorrentina was also excellent with the basil adding a flavorful but balanced note to the dish. I mention this only because we had the same dish the night before at a different restaurant and the sauce was disappointingly bland with the only basil flavor residing in the leaf on the top of the serving. The limoncello purveyor was very engaging and walked us through the various types of limoncello he produced - very informative and tasty! Experiencing Sorrento in this way was a great decision and we would do it again 100 out of 100 times!
The tour was wonderful! Giovanni was an excellent guide, and the food we tasted was great. We left with full bellies and a better understanding of Sorrento!
We had a great time! Our tour guide was so nice and very knowledgeable. Would recommend. We enjoyed amazing food. We really loved the gnocchi. We also got to walk around Sorrento and hear about the history.
You get to know the intimate parts of Sorrento, in an orderly way to appreciate the food. Loris has an itinerary that lets you appreciate the quality of smaller family owned stores and restaurants in Sorrento. He also provides history and a few drive by art exhibits. Excellent!!!
This tour was terrific!! We got a late start because of weather delays, but Loris sent us on the perfect journey through the streets of Sorrento. We tasted pastries, meats and cheeses, pasta and wines. Finishing at the perfect cafe. He was a rock star !!
Small group of tourists enjoying food in Sorrento with knowledgeable guide. Nice to try tastes of different local foods.
This was our first food tour but it won’t be our last. Giovanni was a great host and took us to a range of places in the town centre to sample some fabulous food and drinks. From delicious Italian pastries to gnocchi, cheeses, cured meats and limoncello, there was nothing we didn’t enjoy. Not even the rain could dampen the tour. Would highly recommend.
Giovanni was an amazing tour guide. I really enjoyed the experience. Learning about history and the food. Everything we tasted was yummy. I highly recommend
We had an excellent food tour of Sorrento with Giovanni! He took us to a wonderful pastry shop for rum baba, a dairy farm market for excellent provolone, salami, Caracalla, the best tomato salad and nice red wine, two different limoncello shops for tastings and another family restaurant for the perfect Sorrentine gnocchi. Giovanni was very well spoken, provided background on the traditions of the Sorrentine ways and was overall a great host. We highly recommend this tour!! Do not eat breakfast before the tour, you will receive ample servings along the way.
Excellent food tour with a great selection of local delicacies and drinks. Tour guide Giovanni superb - lots of local knowledge and history given. He also provided a list of best places to eat .
This is a great way to learn about Sorrento and taste its special delicacies. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it. Delicious food and a lot of fun!
Giovanni designed this tour perfectly. He showed us local restaurants that we would have never found on our own. These owners welcomed us into their business and had us sample their speciality foods from local sweet treats, to meats/cheeses, to lemoncello, to candy to Gnocchi. Overall, it was an outstanding experience and one I would highly recommend to any visitor to Sorrento.
We thought this was a sampler of local Italian cuisine. Not so - Giovanni guided us through a moveable feast of food, wine, and treats. Fun and informative.
This was a really excellent tour. Giovanni was very entertaining, and provided interesting information about the history of Sorrento, as well as a great selection of food tastings. Highly recommended.

Loris gave us a great food and drink tour in Sorrento. We had 10 different tastings from local, family-owned places and everything was exceptional and tasty. Highly recommend this tour as a way to get oriented to the city. There is a lot of thought and love put into organizing the tour and it shows.
Highly recommend! A great welcome to Sorrento by Giovanni, Prince Henry's twin! The small group format was truly wonderful and each stop offered a new element of the Sorrento food scene. Giovanni's personality and knowledge made this a must do activity while in Sorrento.
Giovanni our guide was amazing. He took us to original family and heritage owned places across Sorrento. Not only did we taste and learn about the food, wine, and spirits, we met the people who create these items. I have spent over 30 years in the fine wine and food industry. I have travelled extensively. This is a wonderful opportunity to get a historical and homemade taste of all that Sorrento has to offer! Giovanni made it understandable, interesting and accessible to a variety of people from all of the world. Highly recommend for a lovely evening out in Sorrento. Grazie Mille Giovanni!!
Loris was a fantastic private food tour guide. His passion for food and Sorrento was clearly evident. We enjoyed all the small family owned establishments he brought us to. This was our best tour experience. He was an absolute pleasure to speak with as well. Highly recommend this to to all. Thank you Loris! Tyler and Angela!
We had the BEST time touring around Sorrento and eating some of the most amazing local flavors with Giovanni! Could not recommend this tour enough. Go when you first arrive in Sorrento so you know the lay of the land, what’s best to eat, and some history while you’re at it 😃
Giovanni gets a strong 5 stars from us for his food tour. His knowledge of the city of Sorrento, its background and food selections were top notch. As first timers to Italy and Sorrento, Giovanni offered us so much more to us than simply the food scene in Sorrento. Giovanni was timely, responsible, friendly and we found our conversations with him to be highly informative and simply fun. If you’re looking for a good time, friendly conversation and food highlights of Sorrento, I’d highly recommend Giovanni!
It was a wonderful experience. Loris was an exceptional guide and introduced us to many foods and explained the culture and the history of what we were eating and drinking. Would highly recommend the tour and Loris. Not only did he share his culture but wove in personal experiences to hi-light what we were enjoying plus was enthusiastic about what he was explaining. Would do it again on my next adventure.
