Join a walking tour of the Archaeological site of Pompeii of 2 hours with an official guide ! After the eruption of the Mount Vesuvius in the 79 AD, the city was submerged by a torrent of lapilli and lava which petrified the city preserving all the manufacts and infrastructures from the passing of the years.
The Civil Forum is the core of daily life of the city and is the focal point of all the main public buildings for city administration and justice, business management, and trade activities such as markets, as well as the main places of citizen worship.
The Temple of Jupiter dominates the north side of the Forum, with Mount Vesuvius scenically rising behind. When the colony was founded (80 BC), the temple underwent a radical renovation and became a real Capitolium with the three cult statues of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, which looked like those of the Capitolium in Rome, placed on a high base so as to make them visible to whoever passed in the Forum square.
The Macellum consists of a tuff quadriporticus with a hall for worship in an elevated position on the eastern side, in line with the entrance. The copies of two marble statues, a female and a male armed, are found on the niches of the side wall, together with the fragment of a larger statue, probably pertaining to an emperor, Titus or Vespasian, indicating how this area was intended for the imperial cult. To its left is a room for meetings of a sacred board and to the right a large room with a masonry counter perhaps for fish to be sold.
Via dell’Abbondanza was the ancient main street (decumanus maximus) of ancient Pompeii, which ran across the city in the direction east/west from the Forum to the Porta Sarno. In ancient times the street was crowded and noisy with many shops, workshops ("officinae”), cafes, snack-bars and restaurants for food and drink
The Forum Baths are located behind the Temple of Jupiter and date back to the years immediately after the founding of the colony of veterans by General Silla (80 BC). Women's and men's quarters had separate entrances. The men's section presents an apodyterium (dressing room), used also as a tepidarium (for medium temperature baths), frigidarium (for cold baths) and calidarium (for hot baths). Like many buildings in Pompeii, the baths were heavily damaged during the earthquake of 62 AD.
Via delle Ville (often referred to as the path to the Villa of the Mysteries) is a scenic road located outside Pompeii’s city walls, leading away from the Porto Ercolano gate. This ancient route is famous for connecting the urban center to the suburbs, passing through a significant necropolis lined with impressive tombs. Its most famous destination is the Villa of the Mysteries, a suburban estate renowned for its breathtaking frescoes depicting Dionysian rites, offering a quiet, atmospheric contrast to the bustling city streets.
The House of the Faun (Italian: Casa del Fauno), built during the 2nd century BC, was one of the largest and most impressive private residences in Pompeii, Italy, and housed many great pieces of art. It is one of the most luxurious aristocratic houses from the Roman republic, and reflects this period better than most archaeological evidence found even in Rome itself.
The Large Theater of Pompeii was built from the Romans on the slope of a hill located in the area; they took advantage of the natural depression of the mountain to create a majesty auditorium divided into 5 sectors. On the stage were played tragedies of the Greco-Roman traditions.
The Basilica, with its extension of 1,500 square meters, was the most sumptuous building of the Forum, and its space was used to carry out business and for the administration of justice.

Excellent service and very knowledgeable driver and your guide!?
What a great staff! I left my backpack in the cab getting to the tour. The staff , and especially Roberto, worked hard to track down the cab and get my backpack back. No easy task because I didn’t know the cab number or the driver’s name and there are a ton of cabs in Sorrento. Roberto knew somebody who knew somebody and was quickly able to get my bag. The rest of the staff who had made numerous calls then quickly made arrangements for a train as the bus had to leave on time. We were assigned a new group and our guide Melanie was incredible! I really thought we were going to miss this fantastic tour but the team saved the day. BRAVO!!!
The tour was amazing thank god it wasn’t to hot out we went at 9am to start the tour so it wasn’t crowded so much especially since it was a free day for people i would definitely recommend doing a tour since our guide carolina was very knowledgeable and knew exactly where to take us to show us all the best areas of the site i booked a tour through viator it was a private tour with a driver that picked us up from our sorrento hotel and afterwards dropped us off he was extremely friendly and he even stopped for us to take a picture at a beautiful spot don’t get me wrong it was a little expensive but definitely worth it. thanks to carolina we learned all about the history of pompei it was very interesting she was a great guide again it was definitely a memorable tour i’ll never forget thanks to carolina
Organized and comfortable . Great communicators and staff it with the best people . Highly recommend !
Amazing experience! Our guide, Vincenzo, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about Pompeii. We were able to skip the line and get into the ruins immediately, and he navigated us through sites that were off the beaten path where it felt very few (if any) other tourists were. We learned so much about the ancient city and their efforts to conserve the area. Private driver hotel pick-up and drop-off was also a major plus!
Excellent from start to finish. Guide trounced himself at pick up point. Gave us clear information. We left on time. Guide gave us lots of local information about the local route we travelled. Met by super Guide, who guided us around Pompeii. Lovely journey home by driver of coach.
Great tour and a fantastic guide. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. Well worth the money. July is a little hot but was advised to go early morning and this was arranged.
Angie was great! Approachable, welcoming, passionate in her execution, and knowledgeable for the guided tour of Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius. The overall service she offered was on time, to the point, clean and there was nothing that she was not prepared to do for all group types to make the day enjoyable for everyone. I would recommend for singles, couples, and families with children and I will certainly attend one of her other tours to explore this part of Italy on my future trips to Rome.
Everything was just wonderful. Sasa, our guide was amazing and entertaining! Everything was perfectly organized! I highly recommend! Best regards, Bogdan
Ugo super preparato e bravissimo. Complimenti anche al direttore Dott. Zuchtriegel per aver organizzato tamponi rapidi all’interno del sito. Visita che consiglio a tutti!
