Itinerary
Departure from Sorrento with your English-speaking driver
Walking tour of Naples' historic center. The Centro Storico of Naples is the largest UNESCO World Heritage site in Europe and the beating heart of the city’s 2,500-year history. Built upon the ancient Greek-Roman grid of three main streets called decumani, it is a vibrant labyrinth where Baroque churches, underground ruins, and bustling street markets coexist. Key highlights include the Veiled Christ in the Sansevero Chapel, the artisan workshops of San Gregorio Armeno, and the deep historical layers of Napoli Sotterranea. It is a place of intense atmosphere, where the sacred and the profane meet in every crowded alleyway.
Spaccanapoli is the straight and narrow main street that traverses the old, historic center of the city of Naples, Italy. The name is a popular usage and means, literally, "Naples splitter", infact it is a very long road and from above it seems to divide the city in two.
In the historical center of Naples, there is magical place; the San Gregorio Armeno alley also called in Italian "la strada dei presepi". San Gregorio Armeno is one of the most amazing attractions in Naples. You can admire numerous shops with creative nativity scenes and figurines in all variations. Besides the Jesus- and Madonna figurines you will also find detailed copies of pizzerias, fruit markets, all household objects, gastronomic delights, exotic animals, and sometimes even caricatured politicians and football players. They are all hand made from local artisans; their art has been handed down from father to son and each crib is studied in detail. You can get thousand of accessories and building material for your Neapolitan crib as well as the typical lucky charm: the Napolitan Corno !
Immerse yourself in the energy of Via Toledo, Naples' most famous pedestrian thoroughfare. Stretching over a kilometer, this bustling avenue is the city's beating heart, lined with grand noble palaces, trendy fashion boutiques, and historic pastry shops.
Piazza del Plebiscito is, without doubts, one of the most beautiful squares of Italy. It is a noble semicircular square built on the model of the Pantheon in Rome and it is embraced by a neoclassical colonnade. The two equestrian statues located in front of the church, represent Ferdinand I of Bourbon and Charles III of Bourbon and they are a masterpiece of Antonio Canova. According to the legend, it's impossible to walk through the two statues being blindfolded, due to a cuss from the Queen Margherita. She used to promise the freedom to the slaves who succeeded in the enterprise, but this never happened !
Spread over a lush hillside, Posillipo is an elegant residential area. From here, the view on the Gulf in unmatchable and it's the perfect set to take stunning photos with the Vesuvius on the back. The district hosts a stunning archaeological park also known as Pausilypon.

Step into the Galleria Umberto I, a masterpiece of 19th-century architecture and the elegant heart of Neapolitan social life. This grand shopping gallery will leave you breathless with its soaring glass-and-iron dome and intricate mosaic floors representing the zodiac. Located just opposite the San Carlo Theater, it’s a perfect example of the 'Belle Époque' style that transformed Naples into a modern European capital.

We had a call from the agency stating they were not sure if the tour on Sunday would happen- We told them that it was the only day available for us. They called back and said the tour would take place - and we are very glad it did. Luigi the guide and Carl the driver were excellent, and we were able to see a tremendous amount of great sights in Naples. We were a bit concerned about the reputation of Naples as being dangerous, but were pleasantly surprised that it was no more dangerous than any other city, and the people were very friendly. We definitely enjoyed this private tour and would recommend it highly.
