The Path of the Gods is an absolute MUST DO on the Amalfi Coast. We walked from Bomerano to Nocelle, then continued down the famous 1,700 steps into Positano. IMO you do NOT need to pay for a guided tour. We caught the 7:10am SITA bus from Amalfi to Bomerano (Agerola) — about a 50-minute ride along spectacular cliff roads with hairpin bends and massive drop-offs. Tickets were €2.40 each. The yellow-vest SITA ticket seller was not there that early, so buy tickets beforehand if you can. Unsure whether the driver always sells tickets at that hour. Bomerano is the final stop. From there, use Google Maps to walk to the town square only a few minutes away. There’s a great café there with excellent coffee, prepared rolls for takeaway lunches, and a toilet (you’ll need a token from the café). The trail itself is very well signposted. When you reach the directional signs for Nocelle, take the “2 hour” route. The path is rocky and uneven in sections, so proper walking shoes are essential. Walking poles are ideal. Take water. The views are simply breathtaking the entire way — cliffs, coastline, villages and sea. One of the best walks we’ve ever done. There are no public toilets in Nocelle, so stopping at the first café you see is a smart move. From Nocelle to Positano you have two choices:• Walk the 1,700 steps down — moderate to hard going, especially for older walkers. About 45 minutes for younger, fitter people.• Catch the local bus. The local bus leaves roughly 10 minutes before the hour from the upper level near the car park. Don’t follow the main stairway down to Positano — continue along the path and up a few stairs to find the stop. The driver collected fares onboard — about €1.80 each. One warning though: when the bus arrived it was complete chaos. There’s no obvious queue area and everyone scrambled to get on because the buses are small and fill quickly. Unfortunately that seems fairly common around the Amalfi Coast — roads, buses and ferries can all feel a bit disorganised and overcrowded. Even so, this walk is unforgettable and absolutely worth doing.

We did this hike ourself, caught a local bus to Amalfi, then amother to Bomerano. Then took our time hiking the trail no agenda no rush, let those on tours pass us and stopped when ever to soak in the wonderful views. So it cost us 2.40 euro for the bus ride and thouroghly enjoyed the peace and quiet when we waited for people to pass. Even stopped for a wine near the end at a little grotto in the middle of no where.
We chose to take the public bus to Bomersno and do the walk self guided. The sheer scale of the 'actual height' is deceptively disguised as the walk starts of proper footpath with stunning views. You climb and descend with ease until you reach a junction. This states high path or low path When I saw the actual height of the path and the fact there were no barriers. I realised I wouldn't be able to do it as Im neither part mountain goat or that great with heights. However, descending to the low path was no walk in the park. The incline down is steep and uneven underfoot. The corners are also sharp and steep. I nearly had a meltdown until an angel named Diana went by my side blocking the sheer drop until we met the barriers. The views then were beautiful and I could truly enjoy them. The walk is taxing and challenging on terrain. Many walkers had poles. Its also very long, taking nearly 3 and half hours. The pit stop at Nocelle was welcome but beware waking to Positano afterwards as there are 1700 stairs down to another mile walk along the crazy roads. Worth it but you need to mentally prepare.
This hike is not for the faint of heart. Please no seniors that can't handle walking or need help or assistance with their bags or water? The views are stunning. The traffic was minimal as this is not such an exciting event but a theatrical pleasure for the eyes.
Friendly and patient guide with exceptional local knowledge, safety and hospitality. Luigi greeted us with the warmest smile and provided information how to be safe on the trail. The views of the Amalfi Coast were stunning and we learned about local mountain culture, history, flora, and fauna during the hike. The visit with shepherd Antonio was a perfect resting point half way with the antics of the farm animals (Eros, Bo, Luke, Limoncello, and Limon), folk song, natural wine and traditional snack. We started with a morning hike and avoided the midday sun. A definite Highlight of the trip.
The hike tour with Luigi was absolute magic!✨ He was the most caring and knowledgeable guide with ever had, he gave so much local information and anedoctes, it was mesmerising listening to his stories and wisdom of the land the local nature as well as the mythology of the area! He took as to an absolute stunning spot in a Shepard's cave to have a delicious fresh lunch overlooking the cliff..omg it was a speechless experience✨ We loved every second of it! We definitely reccomed having a tour with him😊 We can't wait for next year's visit to have another hike together! Francesca & Juan
Luigi was a fantastic guide on our hike. He took time to point out all the local flowers and vegetation native to the area. He was very knowledgeable on alternative routes to make the most of the time we had to spend during the hike. We would highly recommend Luigi to anyone who wants to experience this beautiful hike.
Luigi was wonderful. We hiked with him on two different days. On both days he was patient and took us to different sites that we would have missed if we hiked alone. On a personal note, Luigi was down to earth and really wanted to make sure that we enjoyed the tour, which we did!
The tour was fantastic! Booking was fantastic, as well! We even needed a little customization to our plan and Luigi accommodated us very very well. The guides knew the local farmers which made the tour so very special!
Luigi was a fabulous guide! He was very knowledgeable about the whole coastline, including the history, the agriculture, and the local culture. He has an obvious love for the Amalfi coast - its beauty, its culture, and the treasure of hiking through the whole region. He was mindful of our desired hiking pace, informative and helpful about sections that required heightened awareness. You will not be disappointed in him, or the Path of the Gods!
Highly recommend! The absolute best hiking tour we have done! Luigi, our guide was amazing! Very knowledgeable. We met a local shepherd and saw his house along the hike and had fresh bread/cheese. I will be using Luigi again when we return to the area more amazing hiking experiences!
This is a magnificent hike but I found it way more arduous than the reviews suggested. I began with a friend from Bomerano which is about a forty minutes very windy (as in switchbacks) bus ride from Amalfi. You start at around 2,000 feet. The hike is listed as moderate difficulty with an elevation drop of 200 metres or about 700 feet. However my I watch indicated I gained 725 feet during the hike. So be prepared for lots of elevation change both ways. There are some steep, rocky sections both up and down. My friend was challenged by the first steep section and turned back. I carried on but found it way more intense than expected. I completed the hike to Nocello. After the hike is over, your walk is not - there are steep stairs to the bus station to catch the bus down to Positano where I caught a bus to Amalfi. Incidentally the buses are incredibly crowded. Overall I walked 3.7 miles in two and a quarter hours. Average heart rate 130bpm so it’s a good cardio workout. I am so glad I did it, but it is not for the faint of heart, or those wearing inappropriate footware.
Luigi was a wonderful guide who advised us on the options and took us on a hike that started and ended in Agerola. He explained all that we were seeing and gave a wonderful history of the land. His love of the area and joy of hiking was contagious. He made sure we stopped at the best places for views and to take in the scenery. He also took us to a shepherd’s hut for a lovely lunch along the way. He was a joy to be with and we would highly recommend Trekking Amalfi Coast and Luigi.
Amalfi, March 2022:- Path of the Gods - I was with 2 retired friends and we had the most amazing hike with Luigi, although he rated it as an 'easy path', not true for me, but still very doable with Luigi from 'Trekking Amalfi Coast' . Gaetano from 'Goinitaly', was also with us but it was through Luigi that we had booked. We had a real 5 star experience (moderate difficulty for me), and the lunch in Antonia's (the shepard) hut was very interesting, tasty and good 'craic' (fun). Thanks to you both for your expertise and generosity that made our day memorable and possible.
Gaetano and Bruno were not only incredibly helpful with questions, handled transportation needs, they gave us such interesting facts along the hike, they knew when to take breaks, refill water bottles, made us an amazing lunch at a Shepard’s hut! Our group of 12, aged 55-15 loved every second of this memorable day!! I highly recommend Gaetano and this incredible experience.
Definitely a unique and unmissable experience. The period was not so apt as I did it on the bridge on May 1st and there were a lot of people. The departure was in Amalfi by bus to Bomerano and already the bus route along the coast deserves so much. The view along the path of the gods is breathtaking and spectacular. My advice is to get there a little trained, because although mainly the path winds down slightly, there are steps on the rock both downhill and uphill and in the long run you can feel it. Once in Agerola, you can take the bus to Positano, or continue along the about 1700 steps all downhill and after walking the path of the gods, they become challenging. Once you finish the steps, I thought you would get to Positano, but there are another two kilometers on foot, so if you are tired, in Agerola maybe it is better to take the bus. Finally from Positano, I returned to Amalfi by ferry, after a long wait at the pier and unimaginable chaos... but all this is fully repaid by the spectacular path of the gods
I hiked this trail with some friends. Beautiful experience, but not as I thought and had read. The information found on the internet is conflicting and difficult to understand. We did not find a high and a low path. It was a single long route that ended in Nocelle (a hamlet of Positano). We decided not to take the very long staircase that would have taken us to the town, but rather we took advantage of the public transport that arrives in the square every hour.
