Really recommend this tour. The whole day went like clockwork, very smoothly. Luigi our driver was great. Lia our guide in Pompeii was very informative, knowledgeable as well as being funny. I strongly recommend going to Pompeii with a guide to get the most out of it.
Our guide, Mario, was very knowledgeable, with a great sense of humor. Fun day!
Our guide, Luigi was amazing! He was attentive and informative. I would be thrilled to be on another tour led by Luigi. Theresa, who led our tour of Pompeii, is an actual archaeologist! Her tour of Pompeii was educational and fun. She really made the whole experience come to life.
Overall a good trip, but I didn't get my downloaded (?) audioguide working at mount Vesuvius. Was great anyway to climb and see the volcano and the view over Naples. It was hard to estimate how long it takes to climb and come back, so an estimation would be nice when to start returning. Pompeii was amazing!! Our guide Mena was very nice and knowledgeable. It was lovely to have her as our guide! Also it was good to have such a small group (10) that we walked together and didn't have to wait a big group to gather between sights and everyone gets to see things without having to wait long behind others. Small group highly recommended! :) Safe driving, good car, thank you Luigi!
This trip from Sorrento starts with a 30-minute climb up Vesuvius. Once at the summit, you are rewarded with sweeping views of the Bay of Naples and Sorrento, and a view into the magnificant crater. The climb is quite a hike, but well worth the effort. Refreshments are available along the way. Next is Pompeii, the ancient city buried by Vesuvius in 79 AD. Heavy morning traffic cut our snack break down to 40 minutes, but our guide was excellent, leading a two-hour tour that offered a fascinating look at daily life and Roman plumbing innovations not matched until the 19th century. You would need four to six hours to see everything, but two hours is enough for a strong overview. Be prepared for a lot of walking, some of it uphill, and bring plenty of water—you will need it!
We were part of a nice group of 8 in total. The minibus was comfortable and air conditioned. Transfers worked ok, but we got separated from the group when getting the shuttle back down to the car park at Mount Versuvius. I think this made our tour late and we lost some time in Pompeii. Anyway, we walked to the crater of Mnt Versuvius in about 25-30mins. Definitely wear walking shoes or similar. When we got to the crater, the views were amazing (when the clouds moved out of the way). The climb was relatively easy but walking down was slippy at times. We were given 1.5hours to walk to the crater and back which was fine for us. Also, there are free festival style toilets before you climb, but take loo roll and hand sanitizer. I didn't have to queue very long to use the loo either. When we arrived in Pompeii the driver (he didn't introduce himself) suggested a restaurant for lunch which was next to our minibus. We took our own food so we walked into the town in the 50mins available for lunch and sat in a square overlooking green lawns, official buildings and a church. Most of the shops were shut because it was lunch (we wouldn't have had enough time to browse anyway), but plenty of cafes and restaurants were open. We bought a delicious ice-cream! Then we met back at the minibus and we were driven to the main entrance of Pompeii. The driver passed us over to an official Pompeii guide and we joined a large walking tour. We were supposed to start at 2:30, but it was nearer 3pm so we only had just over 1.5hr for our tour. The driver was picking us up at 4:30pm. The tour guide did note this and made sure we visited prominent areas of Pompeii. At the main entrance of Pompeii there are free toilets too. The Pompeii guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and answered lots of questions. We were shown the remains of grand houses and the beautiful decor which wasn't destroyed during the earthquake or eruption 🌋. Also, we saw the spa, brothel, bakery, shops the stunning amphitheatres and more in-between. The time did go by quickly. Walking shoes definitely needed around Pompeii too. At the end of Pompeii the driver was waiting for us and drove us back to Sorrento. There was a restaurant called Kontatto by the drop off point so we ate there afterwards as we were very hungry. Kontatto had a very good menu including pizzas, salads, fish n chips, pasta and more. The perfect way to end a full day. I made a point about toilets as there aren't many, especially free, in Sorrento.
Our driver Luigi was fantastic and informative, he took us to Vesuvius first due to the weather and then to Pompei in the afternoon. Pompei was amazing but very very hot. Our historical guide was lovely and very knowledgable. Obviously we all wanted to take photographs and see everything , however there was not enough time in two hours. At the end we did not have the opportunity to visit the souvenir shops which was disappointing and we did feel hurried. Next time we would stay in Pompei or go on the train from Sorrento which would have been cheaper and given us more time to explore.
Shame we did not get more time at Pompei.
Fab trip. Very well organised. Our guide Mario was knowledgable and funny and kept everyones energy up as we ascended and descended the mountain. We had a different guide for pompeii and she was fab too. The ear pieces made it easy to hear what she was saying even amongst all the visitors from other groups - a clever system I hadn’t seen before. The bus was also cool which was a joy in between the activities.
We had an amazing trip to Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii, and our guide, Hilaria, truly made the experience unforgettable. As an archaeologist, she was incredibly knowledgeable, bringing the history to life with fascinating insights, while also being funny, engaging, and passionate throughout the tour. The tour was the perfect length and struck a great balance between being informative and deeply moving. The pick-up and drop-off were straightforward, everything was very well organised, and the whole experience ran seamlessly from start to finish. Excellent value for money, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area. Thank you, Hilaria, for making it such a memorable day!
We had an amazing trip to Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii with our guide, Mario. He was funny, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. His stories and sense of humor made the history come alive and kept the whole group entertained throughout the day. Thanks to Mario, the tour was not only informative but also a lot of fun. He truly made the experience worthwhile, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area!
We enjoyed the tour, it was well organized and our guide Mario have us interesting information about the area. We recommend it!
Easy to find, comfortable ride to Vesuvius with friendly driver. Audio guide gave interesting context to the climb towards the crater. Spectacular views. A welcome 45 minute break for lunch before heading to Pompéi where we met our guide. A very big site with so much to discover and explore. Glad we went with a guide but also that we went in May and not the height of the summer - so busy already. Well worth it though. Well organised and stress free
Vincenzo was so knowledgeable and pleasant. He was clearly vested in Pompeii and ensuring we had a thorough tour. I would absolutely recommend taking this tour with Vincenzo!
The driver does not speak much English, but he did navigate the traffic very well and was very patient. The ruins of Pompei were much more than I expected and amazing. Our guide for the tour was very informative!
Amazing experience! Driver arrived on time and was very polite. Mount vesuvius is a must!!! & Our guided tour at pompeii with Vincenzo was so gooood! He really knew his stuff and made the tour fun. I recommend 100%
The activities themselves were great. The organisation let the day down as it was very rushed which spoilt the experience. We were sent clear instruction of where to meet at 9.30 to start the tour, but one couple could not find it. They were located after 20 mins and we then went to pick them up. We were thus 30 mins late leaving Sorrento, which meant it took 2 hours to get to Vesuvius rather than 1 hour as we hit the traffic. Because of this we were only given 1 1/2 hours to climb Mt Vesuvius which meant it was rushed, and my friend and others did not have time to reach the top. Because we did not have time, two of the other couples were late down, so we left late for the Pompeii tour and had no time to eat anything or get more water even. The Pompeii tour with Paolo was great - very interesting, and done at a good pace. He had so much information to share. The problem lies with the tour operator - either they need to factor in that people may not find the meeting point and start 30 mins earlier, or leave without everyone if they are more than 10 mins late. This late start impacted the whole of the day. Also note that the Vesuvius tour was self guided so you need to download the app and bring headphones. The Pompeii tour was a larger group of 14 people which I was not expecting, but Paolo made it work fine with headsets so we could all hear the fascinating history. In summary I would highly recommend you climb up Vesuvius and have a guided tour of Pompeii, esp if you get Paolo, but use a different operator.
English tour guide Theresa was perfect, very friendly, a lot of humor, additionally also archaeologist, so we learned many more details about the excavations! Thank you for the great experience!
