The experience as a whole was great and extremely interesting. We were a little confused and concerned at first, during the meeting and pick up point. There were many buses going to Pompeii and we, along with a hundred other tourists, had to ask each bus travel guide if our names were on their list. Once we got that all figured out, the rest of the trip was wonderful. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made our tour very interesting. Pompei was very crowded and sometimes it was very hard to hear our travel guide, because another travel guide for the group behind us was talking louder. All in all we are so happy we chose this tour.

Travel to Pompeii by bus
The ruins of Pompeii are a vast archaeological site in the southern Campania region, near the coast of the Gulf of Naples. Once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried under meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The preserved site features remains of excavated streets and houses that visitors can freely explore.
The Civil Forum is the centre of daily life in the city, on it are all the main public buildings for the administration of the city and justice, for the management of business, for commercial activities, as markets, in addition to the main places of worship in the city.
The Temple of Jupiter dominates the northern side of the Forum, and behind it stands scenographically the Vesuvius. With the deduction of the colony (80 BC) the temple was the subject of a radical remaking and became a real Capitolium, with three statues of worship of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, imitating those of the Capitolium of Rome, placed on a high base, So that they are visible to those who passed through the square of the Forum.
The Macellum of Pompeii was nothing more than the town market where people could buy groceries. Located north-east of the Forum, the complex had to remain away from the square not to create too much crowding, given the large number of people who certainly frequented it.
"Via dell'Abbondanza" is one of the main streets of the ancient city of Pompeii, in Campania, which connected the Forum with the Amphitheatre.
The Stabiane Baths were built at various times. The initial phase of construction dates back to IV a.c. (the gym with the trapezoid base). The baths that we can admire today were built in the II sec a.c., a period when Pompeii was subjected to a major renovation. In the spa, not only did you take a bath, but you also discussed politics, battles, trials, women.... It was the town hall where the facts of the day were discussed.
The Pompeii Lupanare, with its erotic paintings is one of the most famous buildings of the excavations and had the function of brothel.
After that, jump on board to be transferred to the entrance of Mount Vesuvius at a height of 1000 meters.
Once there with your alpine guide, climb up the crater where you have free time to enjoy the breathtaking view over the Gulf of Naples.
Early in the afternoon, return to Sorrento to your hotel or meeting point.

Hiking boots would be very helpful, definitely no open sandals. Also wear sunscreen. On the top could be windy. Pompeii was very crowded.
The tour of Pompeii was outstanding; remember to bring water. Luncheon at the winery provided a straightforward, enjoyable meal with several dry wine tastings. Mt. Vesuvius offered remarkable views of Naples. Expect crowded streets and the driving habits of Italians. It’s a full day and can be tiring.
Pompeii had such great interesting history. The hike up mount Vesuvius was harder than what we expected but worth it. The terrain is pretty steep and difficult since its volcanic ash and gravel you’re walking up and down so wear comfortable and good walking/hiking shoes
Everything worked like clockwork. Paula was our guide for the day and she made everything clear and easy to understand. We started on time and she took us to the meeting point at Pompei where we were guided around by a local expert. Don’t be surprised if you end up going h to a jewellery shop first (the toilets are clean so it’s worth it). We then made our way by bus to the lunch venue which was a lovely garden setting with local vegetarian food. Plenty of wine and a lovely limoncello. Then we went to Vesuvius and walked up the last 250m elevation. Amazing day and good value for money. Thanks Paula.
Good day. Pompeii tour was excellent. Am was good as temp was lower. Ouch stop was excellent and worth the added charge. Volcano trip was nice but was difficult to traverse the last part to top. Should probably indicate it is more than moderate. Great tour
Paula the guide and Gaetano the bus operator took us on an amazing tour of Pompeii, lunch at a charming winery, and Vesuvius. Paula was very knowledgeable and kind when we were a few minutes late. This was my second visit to Pompeii, although very hot, was interesting and moved along. I would anyone to book AmoItaly through TripAdvisor.
The hike up to mount Vesuvius should not be skipped. The weather was hot but no matter what just wipe the sweat and keep going the views at the top are worth it
This was a wonderful day trip to Pompeii and Vesuvius. The tour guide at Pompeii was a hilarious local with so much knowledge of the ruins. Followed by a light lunch (no protein) with wine tasting at a local winery. Then the trip to the Vesuvius crater. The only thing to be aware of was if you do the full day tour, you'll be hiking the last part of the volcano (inaccessible by bus) after having had plenty of wine at lunch, so stay hydrated.
We really enjoyed visiting Pompeii. The tour provided lunch at a local olive oil and vineyard farm - it was a lovely setting with delicious food. We then went to Mt Vesuvius- my family enjoyed the climb- the views were amazing. The tour was a great day!
Roberta was an excellent guide. Full of information. Would recommend this tour
Desiree was a fantastic guide and was informative and humerous for the Pomeii visit. Unfortunately the Mt. Vesuvius visit had to be cancelled dou to bad weather but Buyourtour refunded that portion of the cost.
Great day! Tour guide was great, good knowledge of Pompeii (made it come alive through story telling) and was able to guide us around large groups (to avoid waiting in long lines) without feeling that we missed anything. Lunch was good, beautiful grounds and a nice break. Walking up the volcano was very challenging physically, but we found it worth it.
We spent 2 plus hours touring Pompeii with a very knowledgeable guide. There was about 10 in our group. We stopped for lunch at a very nice and reasonably priced restaurant (about 20 euros per person not included) so if you don’t bring a lunch there is an option. The hike to the crater was a bit of a challenge but well worth the effort. It was a very nice tour and a great way to experience two iconic sites.
It is a wonderful day full of adventures- Our Pompeii guide was very experienced and archeological experts. Very busy with cruse ship excursions - worth the adventure. Lunch at the Farmhouse lunch was delicious. Mt Vesuvius was a strenuous hike up for 25 minutes, worth it if physically able.
Well organised trip. All effortless for us. Guide at Pompeii was excellent and very informative. We had another group join ours which made sticking with the guide a bit tricky as it got quite busy difficult
Bus driver, Mario, had crazy skills! Maneuvering all those winding roads & avoiding the daredevil motorcycle drivers was a show itself! Pompeii was nice but our tour guide didn’t offer as many details as other guides we heard provide. We had two teachers in our group who would have enjoyed learning more lesser known history of the site and excavation. We appreciated the stop at the Limoncello shop on the way down from Mt Vesuvius. The owner put on a great presentation and had us try Limoncello with buffalo mozzarella, and it was delicious!
At Pompeii there is so much to see and our guide was superb at making sense of it all - as it can be overwhelming. It was an amazing place. The lunch and wine tasting was lovely. We liked the wine so much we bought some bottles to take home. Then on to climb the last 240m of Mount Vesuvius. We had a beautifully clear day, so our pictures are great of Naples, Sorrento peninsula and Capri. We particularly liked stopping on the way back to see Peter whose family business makes variations of limoncello with his massive sweet lemons. Again we ended up buying some (a bottle of limoncello mozzarella and also the rum limoncello) to take home with us. On so many tours there are lots of hidden extras that you need to dip into your pocket for. On this one there are none which was quite refreshing. All 6 of us had a great day thank you and wouldn't change anything about how you structure this trip. It was awesome. Thank you.
A very well organized trip with great experience in Pompei ; a good guide and wonderful trip to to top of Vesuvius. Thanks a lot for this !
Our trip to Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius was wonderful. Paula was very knowledgeable with a very pleasant personality. Lunch was perfect. We also made it to the top of Mt Vesuvius with much encouragement from Paula and the views were stunning. We have found that driving in Italy can be a little scary, but thanks to Mario’s amazing driving skills we felt very safe. We would highly recommend your tour. Pamela and Harvey (Australia) x
We had a wonderful trip to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius The guide at Pompeii was so knowledgeable and kept the pace just right for the group- the headsets were also great so that everyone could hear. The lunch and wine tasting was delicious and we made some friends with another English couple and a couple from the Pennsylvania. There was lots of laughter and great conversation. The hike up mountain Vesuvius was a fab way to walk off the lunch and views were stunning over the Naples Bay As a last treat we had some Limoncello tasting and this was also a great addition to the day. I would highly recommend this trip. Rosie Lee
Pompeii was very busy. Whilst the guide was clearly knowledgable the group was personally too large for me. The radio kept cutting out as we were too far away from her and by the time we got to the area she was talking about she was talking about something else so we didn't know what we were looking at. I would have liked to feel a bit more of the drama of the site but again this is just a personal preference. The few minutes at the brooch museum was ok to get use of the free toilets. Lunch at the vineyard was basic but adequate. Vesuvius views are amazing. Paths are all loose gravel and quite steep so not for the less mobile. Thought we were getting a guide for Vesuvius but just walked on our own. the stop at Peters lemon shop on the way back was very entertaining. Good value trip would just have preferred a smaller group to go round Pompeii. Hotel pick up was not an option for this trip but when we realised that we had passed our hotel on the way out of Sorrento they were accommodating in dropping us back at the village where our hotel was rather than us having to pass it and walk 35 minutes back.
Thank you so much we had the best day. The pick up and drop off closer to our hotel was really appreciated and the day was great. Bus was comfortable and Michel was a very good driver! And fun!! Paula gave us great information along the way as did the guide at Pompey. Lunch was great and a good break, the food and wine was lovely! Enjoyed Mt Vesuvius and the detail provided. And the unexpected gem at the end of the day stopping at the Limoncello shop was a lot of fun, really enjoyed it all! Well done and thank you
We had a fantastic day tour to Pompei and Mount Vesuvius. Everything went smoothly. The coach driver made us feel very safe on the crazy Italian roads and the tour guides were friendly and informative. The lunch stop and wine tasting was an added bonus with decent local food and good wine. Timings were just right and I’d highly recommend this tour.
Excellent trip, well organized with great driver and host. There was no hotel pickup but actually this was a good thing as we didn’t waste time driving from hotel to hotel the bus drove directly to Pompeii at 8am. Didn’t feel rushed at any point.
I cannot thank Mikhail our bus driver and Poala our host enough for their attentiveness of the group. We had an incredible time doing more than we even expected with not only visiting pompeii and climbing Mt Vesuvius, but also wine tasting, lunch, limoncello tasting and watching how seashell jewelry was made. There are a lot of experiences to choose from but I highly recommend this one !
Thank you to Paula, Annalisa & our driver Mario for a fantastic day. The tour of Pompeii was very informative, followed by a lovely lunch and wine and the winery & restaurant. It was too cloudy at the very top of mount Vesuvius to see much but still got some lovely views on the way up. Would recommend this excursion 🙂
We had a wonderful day! Both Paola and Micheal the driver were excellent hosts. Everything was taken care of for us. Our guide at Pompeii was also fantastic and very knowledgable and good company. We enjoyed the lunch immensely and were blown away by the service and quality of food and wine we were served. The visits to the cameo factory and the limoncello stop were an excellent way to break up the day. Please pass on our thanks to both Paola and Micheal for making our time on the peninsula very memorable. Excellent value for money and top quality customer care. We were also very appreciative of the contact messages from you as we moved to wards the excursion day. Grazie Mille!
This was a lovely day. The pick up was great, fab driver and fab guide on the bus and At Pompei. It was wet and cloudy at Vesuvius Which was a shame, but lunch was great and a visit to a limoncello shop was fun and delicious! Thank you for arranging the trip! 😃
Very, very good today. Paula was excellent! Guide at Pompeii was also excellent. The driver, Michaelo, was funny and a fantastic driver. Vineyard stop, very good. We ordered wine to be delivered home. Vesuvius stop was good, but wet. Can you change the weather? Ha ha. Was so special to hike to rim of Vesuvius with my son on Mothers Day. My husband napped on the bus while we hiked. Something for everyone. Truly, a great excursion. Thank you!
Excellent tour from start to finish. We were early and so was bus. Taken to Pompeii, where we met a guide who took us through the highlights of the history. Lunch was a short distance away with a tasting of 3 delicious wines. I had low expectations of lunch due to the reviews but the vineyard was a lovely setting and the food was good. Our group then split and the ones climbing Vesuvius went in one bus and we were taken close to the summit. It’s a tough walk but achievable, and the views are spectacular. Great organisation and great people on this tour.
My wife and I had a great tour to Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius today. Very professional staff and knowledgeable guides. All spoke great English (if that matters to you). Provided a great experience, including arranging lunch for us in a busy itinerary, along with a few extra stops am details that added to the tour. Would recommend as a good way to mange your trips to those destinations from the Sorrento Peninsula.
