Capri First To Blue Grotto Semi Private Boat Tour From Sorrento

The weather hampered our trip into the Blue Grotto. Our tour allowed us to take the chairlift up to Anacapri which we throughly enjoyed. The views were beautiful and the shopping was well worth the trip over from Sorrento.

Just an absolutely fantastic day on the water with our captain Francesco and his lovely assistant. They were so delightful and so knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this trip.

Francesco and his first mate were terrific! Beyond the lovely boat ride and refreshing swim, they provided us good advice on how best to explore Capri and Anacapri during the land portion.

Definitely one of the highlights of our trip. A boat ride around Capri is beautiful. We did NOT get to go inside the Blue Grotto because of 'high tide.' (We spent almost $200 for this). What they didn't tell us is that for the previous 25 days, no one got to go in for that reason. They don't mention it beforehand, lest people won't sign up. But Capri and Anacapri (chair lift) are well worth spending time on.

Great captain and tour guide! The boat was very nice and spacious. Unfortunately the blue grotto was closed due to the tides, but they did a wonderful job of touring us around Capri on the boat and letting us off to swim. They even got off the boat with us to show everyone where public transportation was once we got to Capri. We would highly recommend the chairlift in Anacapri! The line was long, but the views from the lift and at the top were incredible! Then we had just enough time for a quick lunch in Capri and then headed back down to the marina. The boat ride back was beautiful!

We had to book this tour twice. The first time, we booked for Tuesday, and it was canceled due to lack of minimum participants. We rebooked for Thursday, and again it was canceled due to lack of participants. So they said they could reschedule us for Wednesday on an “upgraded” deluxe tour for small group, hydrofoil to Capri, private driver, 1.5 hr around the island. Though it wasn’t the same as what we were looking forward to, we said yes because it seemed like the only option that wouldn’t be canceled. We lost a lot of money on making changes for ferry rides and car rentals to be able to go last minute on this Wednesday. The group ended up being a total of 7, so without us they would have been short the minimum 6 and maybe would have canceled on the others too. So- logistics wise, this has been a terrible experience. But now let’s talk about the tour- the original experience was supposed to be “first to blue grotto” with time relaxing on a small semi private boat and seeing sites and swimming with prosecco and fruit and them 4 hours free time on land. They never mentioned the blue grotto was closed, by the way. It was all week and they knew it. What we got was what marketed as a “hydrofoil” but really was the public ferry with hundreds of other people, not even close to a semiprivate experience. Then you get on a small boat to go around the island (this part was finally nice, but 1.5 hours only). What they did not mention is that when we arrived in Capri we had to stand around and wait 40 minute foe the rest of the group to arrive, so wasting 40 minutes of our short day. Them instead of getting 4 hours of free time on land, we got a rushed 2 hours on Anacapri and 1 hour in Capri, before we had to get back in line for the ferry because you have to be back 45 minutes early to board the public ferry. (something I wouldn’t expect with a small private boat). Your “private driver” is basically a taxi bus- they tell you to take all your stuff every time bc you might get a different bus ride to next destination. We also had a guide, he escorted us from one place to the next, and gave some local information, and then let us go on free time. He was fine, but not necessary for getting us on the ferry or from one transport to another. Overall, I’m glad we didn’t pay full price for their deluxe version. I’m actually upset we paid Mondo anything at all and didn’t just cancel and self book. Don’t fall for their “upgrades” and ABSOLUTELY do not book this unless you can be ultra flexible and expect constant cancellations (even in high season).

The captain Roberto picked us from Sorrento dock and and called in advance to make sure we knew exactly where to meet and waved from the boat as we walked down taking the guess work out. He showed us some points of interest on the boat ride including some good swimming, made some restaurant suggestions and handled the arrangements for us. It was a good trip, well executed.

Great experience!!! Highly recommend! Don’t second guess booking it-just do it! The crew was awesome and made it one of the best experiences!!!

Our family of 8 (with 5 teenagers) were recently visiting Sorento on a once in a lifetime trip for my wife and myself (hopefully my kids make it there again as adults) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Sorento is beautiful and breathtaking at times. Along the way we booked a tour with Mondo Tours and based on that experience, I would definitely recommend booking your excursions with Mondo Tours. The day before our trip, Mondo tours contacted us for a free uograde that would give our family a semi private tour instead of the larger group tour originally planned. Including our family of 8, we went with 12 people. I was skeptical on the “free” upgrade but Mondo assured me that there was no additional cost as they simply wanted our family to have an amazing experience. With the upgrade he included both the boat ride around the island and grotto visit on the same tour which was not included in our original purchase. His crew of Alicia and captain Francesco were so accommodating and pleasant. They went out of their way to show us several beautiful grottos as we went around the island. They also took us to two places for us to swim offshore of Capri. Also, communication was great in terms of directions on where to meet and interim meeting points. Marisa our guide on Capri was equally pleasant. I loved to hear her love for her island. She was very knowledgeable and provided excellent recommendations for visiting the various parts of Capri. I do wish we had more time in Capri (upper area), but fully understand that there is only so much you can do on a tour like this. It’s more of a suggestion for Mondo Tours as they arrange for these tours and talk to their customers. Even the driver was pleasant and safe… given the narrow roads of Capri. I recommend the sandwhich shop right around the corner near our meeting spot (1 block from lift to the top of Capri). Good portion, tasty and affordable and allows you to keep on schedule while getting a quick bite. At the end of the day, it was the best experience we had over the two week stay in Italy. Anyway, I hope that is helpful for the next family that visits Sorento.

This was wonderful! It was our most favorite excursion of the vacation. Mauro was on time and pleasant. Damiano was an exceptional boat captain, easy going and gave us a beautiful experience on the water. Gave us plenty of opportunities for swimming and took us to see breathtaking views, which included lunch at a restaurant on the water in Capri.

We absolutely loved our tour with Captain Francesco! Everything was perfect and as promised and he and his crew member were very sweet and knowledgeable. Looking forward to our next trip!

Hello, we were a family of 12, we had a private boat tour of the grottos and Capri. we had an unbelievable day with Captain Francesco and Alexia; they treated us so special. This was our favorite day of our two-week vacation; I would highly recommend this tour. I can't say enough good things about this trip.

My family and I very much enjoyed the Capri Tour! The early start helped us to get to the Blue Grotto to have a nice experience before the crowds. Captain Francesco and Alessia provided a warm and pleasant atmosphere on the boat. The number of guests on the boat was just right.

We had such a great day! Alexis and Capt. Frankie were absolutely fabulous. The boat was so clean and beautiful. We were to blue grotto early and beat the crowds so we got right in. The guide who took us until the grotto was also great and had a wonderful singing voice. Haha. We had plenty of time to explore capri/anacapri on our own but were given plenty of direction on how to see and do the things we wanted to by Alexis and Capt Frankie. They even put us in the taxi and got us headed in the right direction. We wanted to do the chairlift to the top of the mountain. After our time on capri, we stopped for a swim in the sea and just enjoy the surroundings. It really was a perfect day. Highly highly recommend this tour.

Excellent service and highly recommended! Beautiful tour with incredible scenery. The captain and the boat were both excellent. We finished with a prosecco toast with the group, the cherry on top. Five stars!

My daughter and I spent 12 days touring Italy, and 10 of those days were spent admiring things, looking around, oohing and ahhing everything. We saw Michelangelo‘s David, we saw Leonardo da Vinci‘s last supper, we went to Pompeii, we saw the Colosseum, we did the most amazing things! But if you ask us what our very favorite day was during our whole trip? It was our day at Capri with Francesco and Alessia!! First of all, it was great being in a small group of only nine guests because we didn’t feel like we were just a number. Francesco and Alessia were so friendly and kind, and the boat was small enough to make it personal and fun! My daughter and I were sitting in the back, a newlywed couple was also sitting in the back. We were exposed to the wind and the water spray as the boat traveled. We didn’t say anything, but we were all pretty cold and getting wet. No one complained, but Alessia noticed, and she hurried down below and came back with some nice big towels for us to cover up with! How thoughtful! We sailed all the way around the island of Capri, stopping at the Blue Grotto, which is what my daughter and I had been looking forward to since she was 10 years old! It was incredible! We also stopped at several other places so we could take pictures. We were offered drinks a couple of times and that was appreciated! All in all, it was just really a fabulous day. My only regret was that I didn’t get a picture of them at the end!

Francesco and Alessia were fantastic. Two good characters with great knowledge of Capri and the surrounding coastline. It was a smooth ride their and back with plenty of time to explore Capri with a 4 hour stop there. I can't fault the trip, I got a tiny bit wet 🤏🏼sitting in the splash zone seat at the back of the boat but it was a part of the experience and you are on a boat in the ocean , you have to expect to get a little wet. 10/10 trip . The captain and crew completely to thank for that! 🛥️

We had such a wonderful time. We saw Capri through the eyes of our Captain and Assistant. They made it quite easy for us in ldg the trip to the Blue Grotto. We were only 8 pax and I would say everyone had a great time. Pls do the chairlift in Anacapri since the view from the top was truly Magical. 5 stars from us👏👏👏

This was truly one of the best day trips we took while in Sorrento. Our Captain was very friendly and took us around Capri island before and after our free time. Our boat arrived at the blue grotto right before opening time in the morning so we were one of the first groups to enter. Very beautiful day on the water.

Captain Francesco was excellent. He made sure we arrived at the Blue Grotto early and we were fortunate to be able to get in. Also they took us around the island to see the sights and had time to spend on Capri and Anacapri. Small group of nine guests made it perfect.

Great trip to the Blue Grotto and around the island of Capri

We loved this trip! Mondo tours was easy to work with, and our guide, Alexis, and Captain, Francesco, were so kind and helpful. We were picked up in Sorrento and taken to the blue grotto, which we went into on small rowboats. We were then piloted the way around the island of Capri before having a few hours' time to be on land and visit Capri/Anacapri before heading back to Sorrento. The highlight was the time on the boat!

Overall a great experience to Capri; we were one of the first boats to the blue grotto so our wait was minimal; good value for $ spent

The Mondo tour of Capri was all we could ask for. Francesco (our pilot) got us early to the Blue Grotto, avoiding the long waits that can occur, took us on a comfortable and appropriately leisurely cruise around the Isle, and gave us 4 hours to explore Capri, before returning to Sorrento. Francesco and Alexia were knowledgeable and entertaining and took good care of us, and the boat was comfortable. They made it a memorable day.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Capri. The blue grotto was worth the one time experience. Our early arrival allowed us to not have to wait to get in. We especially enjoyed our boat ride around the island. The weather was not ideal. But captain Marco did an excellent job to make it as pleasant as possible. The on land portion was as good as could be expected for a very wet day. Spectacular scenery!

We truly enjoyed our Shared Tour of Capri with Captain Marco and Antonio. Marco is an outstanding captain and Antonio is an excellent first mate and guide. Both were friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They were prompt in picking us up at Marina Grande, Sorrento. They brought us to the Blue Grotto but is was closed so we cruised around the island stopping at many landmarks. Antonio provided information / stories for each landmark. We were then dropped off at Marina Grande, Capri for 4 hours of independent exploration. Captain Marco and Antonio were again prompt in picking us up. We cruised by the Blue Grotto again to see if it was open but unfortunately it was not. We then had some time to swim which was amazing! This tour is a perfect way to visit Capri from Sorrento! I would definitely recommend!

Overall feedback is the trip was enjoyable. Weather was not cooperating but not something anyone can control We arrived as #2 at the Blue Grotto however the skippers for the small boats were late - Our captain Damian counterproposed a plan to visit the other grottos and then return to the blue grotto. By then rain was starting to fall - damian took care to ensure we all stayed safe, stayed dry. We did return to the blue grotto - Damian got the attention of the skippers to ensure we got to visit inside the grotto. We made good time and landed at Capri town (marina grande) to roam around - gave good advice since it was raining that 6 of us share a taxi to get into the city the city centre. Everyone was back to meet Damian by 3:05-10pm. Again made good time in the rain back to homebase.

We had a wonderful day on our tour to Capri with our captain Damiano. Our group numbered 6, which was a nice small number. Damiano expertly guided us (with patience, as there was high demand) through the Blue grotto experience. He gave great advice as to how to best use our free time on the island. He was very welcoming and answered kindly all of our questions—it was a beautiful perfect day weather-wise so that was a plus! I would recommend this tour and Damiano highly! I had a lovely day touring Capri and meeting people from all over the world. The best part of the Island is AnaCapri - very pretty. Must see the Villa.

My wife and our two friends went with Captain Marco and his team to Capri. Well worth it, really cool sights and C. Marco kept us informed on what we were seeing, let us swim, got into the blue grotto and had refreshments for us during the cruise. Plenary of time on Capri to see the highlights and have lunch. Highly recommend and we would do it again when back!

We had a wonderful Capri tour with Captain Marco and Antonio! It was a highlight of our trip, particularly the chance to swim in the Mediterranean. They provided a smooth ride, showed us the highlights of the island, and adapted well to changing circumstances to make it a great experience. Although the Blue Grotto was closed due to high water, they took us to another cave that showed the same turquoise effect without the long wait.

I booked this trip with a recommendation from Rick Steves. This tour did not disappoint. We had the most incredible time. It was the perfect amount of a guided tour around the island with ample personal free time on the island. Captain Marco and his assistant Adriana did a wonderful time explaining all of the sites, and the sail around the island and from Sorrento were great. We loved the free time swimming in the ocean. The pick up and drop off arrangements were easy. Thank you for such a wonderful day!

We enjoyed this tour. Having a guide and a driver really takes the stress off when you are packing so much into limited time. Patty, our guide, is excellent. It is hard to say enough about how she added to our experience. We really appreciated her knowledge, her true passion in story telling, and her ability to navigate crowds. One comment, we did have trouble finding her at the start of the morning. We were at the “meeting point” indicated in the instructions. She had no sign with our name or logo, ”share tours”, of your company (as the instructions indicated). Our phones were on airplane mode (that being our mobile plan). It was chance (another guide pointed her out) that we found her. The best part of the tour was the boat ride around the island. We were unprepared for swimming. As this was not fully explained in the written instructions. Wear your bathing suits. The boat will stop for a brief swim if you would like. But know that does cut the time from your day in town. The Blue Grotto was closed on our tour day. That made things easy for my family. We did not want to waste time in-line. However the other family on our tour boat that day indicted that they wanted to do the grotto if it was available. I’m not sure how that would have worked. I believe we would have stopped and had to wait. So just be prepared. In town, Patty navigates crowds, points out the public restrooms, and guides you through the towns so you feel like you get the most you can in the day. She will suggest a place to grab a quick lunch but we had brought a sandwich as the instructions had suggested. Our time with Patty and her stories are a highlight of our trip to Italy.

Giovanni and his son were incredible. We were scheduled to do the blue grotto, but the weather did not cooperate. Instead we did a trip around the full island and it was even better. We still swam in the green grotto. There was lots of caves that Giovanni masterfully fit the boat into. Lots of cool local knowledge from Giovanni as well. Do it!

Alexia and the captain, Marco, were friendly, informative, and made this trip so much fun! They took us straight to the Blue Grotto first thing to avoid the crowds that come later. Then, we were given 3 hours in Capri to do whatever one wanted to do without the pressure of a directed tour. Everyone on the boat did whatever they wanted to do. We decided to head to Anacapri by taxi to ride the chair lift (which was fantastic and had incredible views of the island), and then we took a taxi to Capri and had lunch and walked around some. Each ride was short. Overall, it was just enough time. After we met back at the dock, they took us around the back of the island and we circled the whole island before heading back. First, we stopped at a green grotto. We then stopped at a white grotto. We later stopped at a beautiful swimming spot and many of us jumped in and swam for a bit. Some on our boat didn’t know to bring bathing suits but we had worn ours. We then went past the houses and yachts on the luxurious back side of the island, and finally to the famous Faraglioni rock formations. It all was so beautiful. I can’t say enough about how nice Alexia and Marco were. A fantastic experience! Bring cash because you will want to tip them for sure!

This is my second time using Mondo Guide Day Tours. They are so accomodating. I hired a private boat to tour around the island and then visit the island. We totally connected with our scipper Damiano. He was very personalble, we talk about family and even met his holder brother and his friends. He was very informative about the history of Capri. We visited the different grottos and it took us to the calm areas to swim and cool down. He sertainly made our trip more enjoyable. I highly recommend renting a private boat for the day to visit Capri and experience the beauty both by land and by water.

This full day shared tour of Capri and the Blue Grotto from Sorrento was one of the highlights of our trip! Our boat captain Marco and tour guide Alessia with Mondo Guide were simply fabulous! Our day started at 8 a.m. in order to get to the Blue Grotto before the rush. After that beautiful and unique experience, we were dropped off at the Marina Grande to explore the Island on our own for 4 hours. Alessia gave us good instructions on where to catch the bus or taxi and some things we could do on the island. My husband and I headed directly to Anacapri in a taxi and rode the gondola to Monte Solaro. Views are amazing from there. After seeing the sites in Anacapri, we descended by bus to Capri town, enjoying the shops and having lunch before returning to Marina Grande to continue our excursion. We spent the next 2 hours on a tour around the island by water. That part of the trip was extremely relaxing and beautiful, taking time to anchor and swim for a bit, then to see the Faraglioni rocks, other caves and the green grotto. All in all an amazing day! We shared this tour with 4 other amazing people we met that day which contributed to making this such a fun time. This was the 3rd excursion we booked with Mondo Guide on this trip to Italy and all 3 excursions were fantastic, communication was easy and everyone at Mondo Guide was very responsive and helpful.

Our family of 4 had such an amazing day on Capri with our guide, Andrea! This is our third time booking this same tour with Mondo Tours over the past four years. First ourselves, then with friends and now with our adult children. Each time was as special as the last. The logistics were perfect - we moved seamlessly from the Capri harbor to Ana Capri and then to Capri and back to the harbor for a boat tour around this gorgeous island - on a very busy, high season day. Andrea was so attentive and responsive to our needs and questions. We had the insider's track to the best views and walking paths, shopping, gelato and lunch on the boat with delicious, fresh island-made caprese sandwiches. Captain Marco and Guide Alexis assured our safety and enjoyment. We loved cruising around the island - beautiful views of land and sea and a flotilla of massive yachts! The town of Capri was pretty but very crowded mid-day Sunday. We finished with a swim in the warm, salty water. Fond memories.
