Authentic Cooking With Locals: Meal, Wine & Scenic Views

What a wonderful experience!! It ended up just being the 4 of us (husband and 10 year-old twins) in the lovely back patio/garden of their home overlooking the cliffs and water. Rocco and Carla were so kind and welcoming and engaged with our kids. We were there in the middle of a July heat wave but were still very comfortable, with fans around and the breeze off the water. We came on bus then foot from a swim at Fiordo Di Furore, so the water, wine, and appetizer they prepared at our arrival were very welcome!! And the food was delicious!! We all enjoyed learning the different pasta shapes and tools and tricks to make it. And the dessert cups were fun to assemble and a sweet treat at the end. We highly recommend this experience and would to return one day.

Our cooking experience with Rocco and Carla was THE highlight of our trip to Praiano! From the moment we arrived, they made us feel like friends in their home rather than guests at a cooking class. Everything was incredibly authentic. The ingredients came either from their own garden or were locally sourced, and many of the recipes had been passed down through generations of their family. Carla taught us to make pasta dough from scratch, showed us how to create different pasta shapes and how to make ricotta gnocchi. We even made a special dessert that Rocco ate as a child. Of course, there was also their homemade red and white wine! 🍷 We cooked, drank wine, laughed, and listened to stories about their family, food and traditions. An unexpected bonus was the other couples in our class. By the end, we all felt like friends! Sitting together afterward and enjoying the meal we had created made the experience even more special. This was so much more than a cooking class — it felt like spending an afternoon in an Italian home, sharing food, wine, family traditions and lots of laughter with new friends. We had an absolutely fantastic evening with Be Genuine in Praiano, taking an authentic Italian cooking class with Rocco and Carla. From the moment we arrived, Rocco and Carla were warm, engaging, and genuinely passionate about sharing their food, their traditions, and their love of Praiano. This felt like so much more than a cooking class, it was an experience. One of the things that made it particularly special was learning that many of the ingredients we used came directly from their small terrace farm right here in Praiano. They even produce their own wine and olive oil from the fruit grown on their property. It doesn't get much more authentic or local than that! The cooking itself was relaxed, hands-on, and a lot of fun. Rocco and Carla did a wonderful job of making everyone feel involved while sharing the stories and traditions behind the food. For us, this was exactly the kind of experience we were hoping to have on the Amalfi Coast ... great food, wonderful people, authentic Italian traditions, and a beautiful setting in Praiano. We had a lovely experience learning to cook pasta and gnocchi in an intimate class of 6 people. We got to choose from a few sauce options and pasta shapes. Very informarive, homely and welcoming experience overall.

Cooking class with Rocco and Carla was a great experience. We got to try local recipes with homegrown ingredients. It was a very traditional and family oriented experience that I would absolutely recommend!!

Super unique experience at a local family's outdoor kitchen, with amazing view of the Mediterranean. Homegrown, organic, and all super fresh. We learned how to make pasta and stuffed zucchini both were delicious. Rocco and his family are very hospitable and have lived and farmed their garden for 6 generations.

Rocco was truly great! If you’re looking to do a cooking class in the Amalfi area then I highly recommend him. At first I was expecting a cooking class with other groups but this was not the case. Rocco welcomes you to his own home and will give your group a true one on one experience. They are locals to the area and will show you what Italian really means. That may sound intimidating at first but that’s not the case. Rocco and his wife bring a personable experience you won’t forget.

You are welcomed in to their outdoor patio. Fun to get your hands a little messy making the pasta dough and then rolling out different kinds of pasta. And finally eating your work! So fun to have a small setting and visiting with our hosts and others on holiday. Do it!

It was amazing!!! The view from the outdoor kitchen was beautiful. It was so fun making pasta and the sauces that Roco’s wife made to go with the pasta were amazing. One of the best meals we had in Italy. Roco was so nice. He waited with us in Praiano to make sure our taxi showed up. Very kind!!! I highly recommend this cooking class.

Carla and Rocco were wonderful. Everything about this experience was special- it was a truly authentic Italian experience out of their own home (with a stunning view of the coast). Apart from the tourist traps on booking sites, they started their business by advertising via signs on the beach years ago. They’re the real deal. Food was amazing, and every detail was well prepared and came with generations of Italian family cooking history. The wine was fabulous too! Thanks again Carla & Rocco!

We thoroughly enjoyed this cooking class at Rocco and Carla’s home—truly, it doesn’t get more authentic than this. Rocco kindly met us and guided us down to their home, which is set high above Praiano with absolutely beautiful views. Carla, an experienced chef and mother of two, was a wonderful host. She taught us how to prepare homemade pasta, meatballs, stuffed peppers, and a delicious dessert made with mascarpone cheese, cookies, and cocoa powder. Every ingredient was incredibly fresh, either grown right on their property or sourced locally, including the wine. One of the best parts of the experience was sitting down together to enjoy everything we had prepared—it was all absolutely delicious and made even more special knowing we had created it ourselves. This is a must-do for anyone looking for a genuine, hands-on Amalfi Coast cooking experience in a warm and welcoming setting.

Rocco and Carla were wonderful. We enjoyed the cooking class, their homemade wine, and eating the homemade bread and cheese. They made us feel like family, and enjoying a meal in their backyard, while learning to make pasta, isn’t an experience I’ll soon forget.

We made stuffed peppers, pasta and a mousse dessert, with wine made from their grapes. The class was me and my husband plus another couple. I would absolutely recommend this class!

What a wonderful, educational and fun cooking lesson with Carla and Rocco! We learned so much! For our stay in Praiano, this was the icing on the cake that consumated our terrific experience in that overwhelmingly picturesque, beautiful Amalfi coast town filled with the most friendly and helpful people. They did a great job explaining everything in a way that was easy to follow, while still making it fun and engaging. It was also really special getting to try their homemade wine and it added such a personal touch to the whole experience. On top of that, we had a great time with the other couples in the class, which made it even more enjoyable. It felt less like a class and more like a fun, shared experience. Rocco and Carla were amazing! They went above and beyond to make sure we had the best possible experience - so much so that they reached out the morning of our original planned day to give us the option to reschedule for the following day due to bad weather. We were so glad they did because it would have been a completely different experience. The food and wine were amazing. It felt like we were making dinner at home with long time friends. Many of the experiences on the Amalfi coast can feel inauthentic and touristy, but at Be Genuine, you so clearly get a true experience of what it is like to live in Praiano. Carla, our teacher, spoke fantastic English and had lots of tips and tricks learned over generations of Italian cooking that she was more than happy to share. The atmosphere of their quaint outdoor kitchen, the intimate setting with a small group of guests and the knowledge and experience shared was just perfect! Highly recommend!

Outstanding cooking experience combined with a very personal sharing of a true farm to table lifestyle made this experience extremely well worth it. The cooking class was extremely fun; my wife and i learned how to make pasta from scratch. From the time Rocco met up with us to walk to Bè's 'outdoor kitchen', we were amazed that we were going to experience 'cooking' italien favorites. We had a wonderful afternoon preparing the 'family recipe dessert' with Carla and learning the basics of making different types of pastas. We came to Praiano as a 40th birthday treat for my wife and wanted to do something fun and authentic. This experience fit the bill perfectly. Rocco was great fun and came to meet us and take us to their intimate garden kitchen where his wife Carla taught us how to make some traditional Italian dishes with the ethos being that using amazing produce (mostly from their own garden) and not overcomplicating the food with too many ingredients, but rather letting produce itself sing was the best approach. It was all fantastic, but the pasta making was the highlight. Carla made it look so easy! And helped and encouraged us to achieve the (almost!) same result. Thanks Carla and Rocco!

The food was delicious , the conversation very entertaining and educational - great to hear how Rocco and Carla are carving out a life in Praiano - similar to the 8 generations before them! We did a couples cooking class while staying in Positano. Clara and Rocco were lovely people! They taught a very authentic cooking class with teaching how to make many different dishes and the history of the food. We med a delicious stuffed eggplant appetizer, homemade pasta, and dessert. We also got to try 3 different wines. Everything was handpicked from their family’s garden/farm which has been around for 6 generations. Highly recommend this cooking class!!

Incredible experience. Rocco and Carla were both very informative and hilarious. Was really cool to be able to learn and cook in their garden, which gave a real local feel and they helped give us trustworthy suggestions for where to go on the rest of our trip. The food was great and really fun to make. We also tried a lot of wine that was probably the best wine we had all trip. Highly recommend.

The class took place at their beautiful home where we had views of the ocean. We enjoyed their home made wine, lasagna, sausage, and bruschetta. Everything was grown at their home. Rocco entertained us with stories while Carla got to work showing us the art of pasta making. Then we ate our project for dinner with a simple sauce made with fresh vegetables from their garden. A tasty homemade dessert topped it off. Highly recommended!
