Sleigh Or Wagon Ride In The Arctic Country Side

Super friendly hosts - awesome scenery riding on horse drawn carriage through wilderness with no one else around. The girls driving the wagons and the guys helping out were very friendly and helpful. The owner and his son were both really engaging to talk with. Wish we had booked the northern lights tour here as well. Their ranch is amazing, the people fantastic and the scenery and experience memorable. Thank you Arna and Quentin

Excellent pickup at cruise ship dock. 20 minute ride to stables. Ingeberg was a great driver of our sleigh. She gave good information about our horse and other breeds at the ranch and was a competent guide. We rode for about 40 minutes near the Alta River and then met up with horseback riders who were on a similar tour. We shared a warm berry drink, coffee and a wonderful cinnamon bun around a wood fire. We returned on a 20 minute ride to the stable. We highly recommend this tour for people of all ages.

The sleigh ride was awesome and views incredible.the host could not have made it better. Gorgeous route and we stopped for traditional snack in a warming hut! This was the highlight of our Norwegian vacation.

This is a family business who take pride in their business. We were picked up at the port (we arrived by cruise ship) and taken to the family farm. Once there, we were given additional outerwear to assure that our sleigh ride would be a comfortable experience. The wooden sleigh was a work of art outfitted with reindeer skins to sit on and a plush blanket to guarantee that we would not get chilled. We were driven into the woods which were blanketed in a mantle of virgin snow. We passed frozen waterfalls, the Alta river and open meadows. It felt like we were riding through a snow globe. Lots of animal tracks including moose. But no sightings. About 3/4 of the way, we stopped at a wooden hut with a roaring fire. Besides being served homemade jerky and freshly made cinnamon rolls, we were entertained with stories and history of the region. It was a relaxing, and enjoyable activity. I would recommend without reservations. If we had more time, I would have stayed overnight in their Northern Lights cabins. Next time!!!! They also rent horses and the riders seemed as happy as we were.

From the Moment Johnny (the owner of the farm) Picked us up in Alta it became a truly magical and memorable experience. We arrived at the farm with a wodnerful greeting from our guide Fenna. A young Dutch lady working at this farm In Norway who spoke near perfect English. A very knowledgeable, extremely interesting confident young person, by the time we finished our journey we felt as though we had know her for years. We met our horse and Fenna made sure we were warm in the cold weather suits provided and the reindeer skin blankets. Once she had made sure we were totally comfortable we made ready to set off. Our incredible journey through the forest, along the river bank and with a view of the mountains with the frozen waterfalls was remarkable. We reached the end of the trail and turned around to return to the farm and stopped at a little hut about half way back to the farm. Fenna made a fire, which was very much appreciated as temperatures now well below zero. The fire roared and coffee was made accompanied by warm berry juice, with an optional Norweigan Reindeer snack to experience a new taste. little did we know that owners wife had sent some homemade cinnamon buns which were warming by the fire in foil. They were amazing a very warm and welcomed treat, to end our wonderful snack and chat with Fenna. With a short tirp back to the farm as the daylight dwindled perfectly finished a truly magical wonderful experience, Thank you all so much for warming our hearts and enriching our lives :)

We absolutely loved our evening at Flatmoen Natur. We had a horse drawn carriage ride through the countryside, followed by a delicious meal by the fire in a charming wooden structure. A very cozy experience. We were lucky enough to catch sight of the Northern Lights, too! A perfect evening with the wonderful staff!

This tour was overbooked for their capacity so 1/2 the group sat around a fire pit for an 1.5 hours waiting for the 1st group to come back. You end up in a wagon that only takes you back on the same road that you drove in on. It was very disappointing as we were expecting to see backroad country landscapes. Perhaps with snow it's a better option. Staff was very nice and friendly.

From start to finish, this experience was amazing, pick up and drop off at the port was perfect. The ride was wonderful, our guide Tina was funny, friendly and professional, the food she cooked us on the open fire was delicious. The whole experience was magical and I would do it all again in a heart beat, Thank you so much for a wonderful evening.

Absolutely amazing trip, picked up from the cruise terminal, journey to the farm was great, some lovely views, whole experience amazing, met the horses, sat with a lovely couple in the sleigh, had very warm blanket over us, the scenery on the ride was amazing, well informed local stories, stopped along the way and had cinnamon buns cooked on the open fire and hot berry juice and coffee, and lovely ride back, so glad we did it.

The team were amazing it’s an awesome family business that have seen the niche in the market and been able to set up their business to support and expand on opportunities , a very personal and professional experience and I would highly recommend.from the personal pickup at our boat to the cinnamon scrolls made by the operators wife it’s first class.very relaxing and amazing way to see the countryside and gain local knowledge

The sleigh ride was so much fun! The sled was filled with blankets which kept us warm and dry during the ride. We stopped for snacks and had the most wonderful tea and coffee next to the fire. The scenery was beautiful and the guides were fantastic. Highly recommend!

Magical ride thru a winter wonderland. Wonderful morning experience. Johnny. Picked us up at our hotel. The farm is lovely. You can tell it is a family business by the care they take in everything and the love they show the horses. We took a long leisurely sleigh ride. They provide the gear to keep you toasty and warm. Stopped for drinks and Mom’s home and cinnamon buns. Heard local stories and was lulled into the sounds of the forest and the rushing water of the lake. Perfect way to end our trip in Alta

Our Sleigh ride around the arctic country side was an amazing experience! All the views on the ride were just breath taking. Our both the Guides, the one who picked us from hotel and the one who was riding the horse were great! They interacted with all of us very well. The homemade freshly baked Cinnamon rolls that were provided along with Blueberry juice was just delicious. All in all I would recommend everyone to do it.

This was a brilliant excursion. We were picked up from the cruise port which was easy due to the car having “Flatmoen Natur” on the side. We were then taken to the farm for the sleigh ride. Which was magical. We were the only 2 on the tour so going through the woods on the sleigh was very quiet and peaceful with a bit of snow falling. We then had coffee and cinnamon rolls heated up over a roaring fire which was a lovely touch and a bit different to the usual excursions where we had a coffee in a lodge at the end of the sleigh ride. I highly recommend this excursion, everything was perfect and everyone was really friendly.

This is a “not to be missed” excursion! It was magical and exhilarating from beginning to end. Our host and guide, Johnny, made sure that we were well suited up for a trip into the Alta forest and countryside at a temperature of -21 degrees Centigrade. Boots, mittens, snowshoes and snowsuits along with warm blankets were all provided and we set off into the beauty of nature! A campfire stop with hot drinks and cinnamon rolls (freshly baked by Johnny’s wife) was a treat indeed. I thoroughly recommend a trip with Flatmoen Farm and the lovely family that run the excursions throughout the year. You can have a cowboy experience in the summer or evening book a cabin to stay in with a glass roof and jacuzzi to enjoy the northern lights :). Magical!

Excellent experience with this family business, We enjoyed the picturous winter lands / horse sledding/ delicious tea and cinnamon pastry/ and listening to the johny’s experience about horses ,horse riding, farm management…

Everything about this trip was magical. Johnny and Levi were great. Food on the trip was delicious - a totally unique and wonderful trip, the highlight of our holiday.

We had an amazing trip with the horse sleigh, trough the darkness looking over the beautiful artic landscape. We stopped at a little hut with a bonfire and got a lovely home cooked meal, cooked on the fire. We a night with good conversations and good food while sitting in what felt like a real life christmas card. The hosts were very kind and sweet people. We had a night we will never forget and recommend everybody who is visiting Alta to book this experience. You won’t regret it!

Coming from Australia we took the opportunity to experience Norway with a local in a unique way. Johnny met us with a smile on his face and a friendly helping hand when I needed extra help getting into the coach and sleigh. He was genuinely interested in where we were from and shared his knowledge of his local town. The farm is beautiful and we were kitted out with extra gear just to be sure we were warm, introduced to his son and the pony then into the sleigh for our journey along the Alta River. We were joined on our trip by a lovely young couple from Sweden. The ride was magical .. the sleigh bells were ringing and I had Bing Crosby singing White Christmas in my head even though it was March. Flatmoen Natur is a family business who welcome you into their wonderful world for a period of time to share the magic that is Alta and its country side in a very unique way. I would highly recommend this adventure.

My girlfriend and I booked this as an independent trip rather than our usual of doing it via the cruise line. We were a little hesitant as this was our first time doing this but needn't have worried. Johnny picked up as at the Tourist Information in Alta as promised and took us to his farm out of town. Johnny and his son Levi looked after the whole group (8 of us) and talked to us and went out of there way to make us feel welcome. The sleigh ride through the forest and down along the Alta river was fantastic. We were out for about 45 minutes and then we went to a small wooden hut to warm up by the fire and drink a mulled drink (non alcoholic), coffee, lamb ham and the some fantastic home-made cinnamon rolls. We spent about 30 minutes here and then returned to the farm to change as some of us had been given snowmobile suits to keep us warm on the journey. Johnny then kindly returned us back to cruise ship. I would certainly recommend using this company and if when we return to Alta, we will be looking to book another trip.

We were well wrapped with, provided clothing, for our sleigh ride during a snowstorm. great scenery, most peaceful. Hot Glug/coffee in front of a warm brazier made it even better

Great experience! Very informative tour guide/driver during a close-to-nature sleigh ride, passing through mountains and valleys. Intimate small group of people (4) in the sleigh and a feeling of “getting away” on a kind of a “private tour” compared to events crowded with tourists etc. Nice with a stop with fire and local snack and stories. Just do it!!!

Above & beyond all expectations our evening with Jonny & Levi of Flatmoen Natur on our sleigh ride kindly pulled by the gorgeous mountain flower under the northern lights is a experience you will never forget. If you visit Alta then you have to do this, it is a truly magical fairytale, personal, once in a lifetime experience made extra special by so many individual, bespoke extras. It’s such a magical experience being pulled on a slay through the crisp white snow, on beautiful soft fur blankets with a back drop of mountains, through the woods and Alta river. When you arrive at the outside camp with a warm fire you are treated to hot glogg and sliced cured meat followed by the most amazing reindeer dish all made on the campfire, then all fished with a homemade cinnamon roll and coffee. Your hosts Levi and Jonny make your feel so welcome, comfortable are very personable and tell great stories whilst always ensuring your warm enough & have a full cup of glogg or coffee. Book a sleigh ride under the northern stars with Flatmoen Natur, you will not be disappointed & will be telling all your friends & anyone you know visiting Norway that they too have to book & go on this truly magical experience!!

Amazing afternoon and unlike any other vacation trip ever taken. So peaceful driving through fresh fallen snow with such beautiful scenery. The refreshments were lovely with salted lamb, gug and a hot cinnamon roll to complete the afternoon. Well worth every penny, would highly recommend.

I really enjoyed everything about this experience!! Johnny & Levi were really so friendly, they picked and dropped me off at my stay, Gave us interesting information about the area, some horse riding tips, were really fun to talk and chat with. Riding in the sleigh was really relaxing, you just sit, deep breathe and enjoy your surroundings. [The beautiful white snow, mountains, the frozen river ..] Had a great chat, delicious hot drinks & homemade snacks around the campfire as well. Would definitely book for another trip with them :D

Beautiful experience, super friendly as we have been received, worry about your warm clothes in case you travel in winter season as we did, excellent food, beautiful walk under the stars!! a MUST-SEE excursion and more than recommended!!

A magnificent expedition!! The friendliness and super friendly treatment have given us a very good opportunity to know human warmth!

We found it fantastic! We did not have the brilliant opportunity of a night with dawn, but the opportunity to stroll by the frozen river Alta, standing in a typical cottage, fireplace and a typical meal (ren sandwich with cabbage and cloudberrie cream) and dessert heated cinnamon bread (mother recipe according to the brothers who welcomed us throughout the tour!!!

What could be more wonderful than Norwegian horse-drawn sledding in a forest and along a river. Isn't it a fairy tale? They also cooked me live and live. Walk, landscape, shelter with bonfire, food. All eco friendly lol!. All Nature to enjoy and commune with Father-Mother God.

Johnny picked us up in the center of Alta, provided us with additional very warm coats and shoes and wrapped us in a cozy blanket and off we went through the beautiful snow landscape, through nature to the Alta river, past frozen waterfalls.At a stop in a warming cabin with an open fire we were deliciously supplied with hot drinks and delicious snacks by him and his son Lewi.Many friendly conversations with the two rounded off this impressive tour.We can enjoy this horse-drawn sleigh ride away from mass tourism. in the far north of Norway highly recommend👍👍👍
