Cruise passengers: read the cancellation policy very carefully before booking directly. We considered spending NOK 30,000–40,000 on an overnight package at Sorrisniva during Viking Libra's January 2027 call in Alta. My concern was simple: what happens if severe weather or sea conditions prevent the ship from docking and we therefore have absolutely no way to reach Sorrisniva? Sorrisniva confirmed that its normal cancellation penalties would still apply. Their position is that they cannot assume the financial risk of weather, transportation disruptions or cruise itinerary changes and recommend that guests obtain travel insurance. I find that policy particularly surprising because Sorrisniva works extensively with cruise lines. Viking itself sells multiple Sorrisniva excursions, including Igloo Hotel Overnight and Igloo Hotel by Snowmobile. Another established Alta operator we contacted specifically confirmed that if our cruise ship cannot dock, we will not be charged because they consider that a force majeure event. That is a far more customer-friendly approach. Sorrisniva may provide an excellent product, but expecting an individual cruise passenger potentially to lose thousands of dollars when the ship physically cannot reach Alta is a policy prospective cruise guests should know about before booking directly.

How come this hotel doesn’t have 5-Stars? Exceptional service. Exceptional food. Fantastic location. We had 2 suites for our family (Pulitzer and Field from 14th to 15th July 2026) and we simply loved everything. The staff throughout were beyond friendly and welcoming. The food? Like angels kissing our tongues. One can taste the love the chefs have in cooking. The suites are squeeky clean and are very large - the views onto the river is amazing. A meditation! We totally fell in love with this jewel. Sadly, they are fully booked in February when we wanted to come back. We put a pin into our plan for later in 2027. Thank you for making our stay here so memorable.
Sorrisniva is a breathtaking Arctic hotel that offers a truly unique experience, especially its famous igloo hotel made entirely of ice and snow. The rooms are beautifully designed, the service is excellent, and the surroundings are peaceful and scenic. It’s a perfect place to enjoy Northern Lights, adventure activities, and fine dining in a magical winter setting. A once-in-a-lifetime stay! ❄️✨
Even though the ice hotel was starting to melt due to the unusually warm weather in Norway it was still a magical experience. It was our 3rd visit & probably our last but I do recommend going there should you be in te area.
🌟An Unforgettable Arctic Experience - True Nordic Luxury with a Personal Touch Our stay at Sorrisniva was absolutely exceptional. We booked the Mary Suite and were blown away by the unobstructed floor-to-ceiling windows that stretched from the living area into the bedroom, offering breathtaking snowy views. The suite was the epitome of cozy Nordic luxury, with incredibly comfortable bedding and pillows that ensured a perfect rest. We also appreciated the thoughtful twice-daily housekeeping that kept everything impeccable. The front desk staff were consistently helpful and courteous, and we were impressed by the variety of tours available. Since we came specifically for the aurora, we joined the northern lights hunt for two consecutive nights. A very special thanks goes out to our guide, Petra. She is a true professional! She meticulously analyzed the weather and other conditions each night to determine the best possible location for viewing. Her dedication paid off—we witnessed the most spectacular auroras of our entire Norway trip! Petra also kindly offered a complimentary photo service and sent us all the stunning pictures afterward. A quick tip for fellow guests: I use a Samsung Android phone. I found that by taking Petra's already great photos and maxing out the light balance, then playing with the saturation and contrast or a filter, you can really make the colors of the aurora pop! Thank you, Petra, for your patience and attention to detail. Thank you, Sorrisniva, for a truly memorable Arctic adventure. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.
