Itinerary
Learn how to make Portugal’s most iconic pastry in this fun, hands-on Pastel de Nata cooking class in Lagos. In just 2 hours, you’ll become a pro at making homemade Pastéis de Nata from scratch — from creamy custard to perfectly baked, golden pastries. Guided step by step by our team, you’ll learn the techniques behind this traditional recipe in a relaxed and social environment. This experience is perfect for food lovers who want to do more than just taste Portuguese cuisine — you’ll create it yourself. During the class, you will: • Make the custard from scratch • Prepare and work the pastry • Assemble your own Pastéis de Nata • Bake them until perfectly golden Some steps may be shared in pairs to keep the experience dynamic and interactive. At the end, enjoy your freshly baked Pastéis de Nata — warm, crispy, and just out of the oven. If you prefer, you can also take them with you. What’s included • All ingredients and equipment • 3 homemade Pastéis de Nata per person • A tasting with a glass of Port wine • Tea or juice as a non-alcoholic option • Water throughout the experience • Recipe PDF sent after the class

Theory v practise a good balance & easy to follow with good step by step explanation. A good team event and a great way to meet new people.
Lots of interaction. Fun experience. The Kichen is very clean, very organized and the instructor and her assistant are very pleasant.
Fun way to spend a morning, and sample the delicious tarts at the end. They were so good we plan to make them at home.
My mother in law & I joined this class last week & we definitely had a great experience. The ladies instructing were the sweetest and were so patient and kind. Truly a 10/10.
We had so much fun making our pastel de natas! Definitely a must when in Lagos!
It was absolutely amazing! High energy, very good instructions and delicious pastels de nata!
Such a fun and authentic experience. The pastel de nata class was really hands-on, easy to follow and a great way to learn more about Portuguese food and culture. And of course, eating them fresh from the oven at the end was the best part! A special thank you to Filipa, who was welcoming, patient and made the whole class relaxed and enjoyable from start to finish. Definitely one of our favourite experiences in Lagos and something we’d highly recommend.
I had such a wonderful experience. The instructors and other participants were great. I can’t wait to make these at home!
Fantastic time baking pastel de nata. Jo was warm, funny, hospitable and made our experience thoroughly enjoyable! The whole family loved it!
My sister and I were so excited to find a cooking class while we were holidaying in Lagos. When we arrived we were greeted so warmly by Fabi, and when our chef Jo arrived, it felt like we were ready to bake with old friends. It was a real hands on experience with the whole process of making the pastei de nata and Jo was an excellent teacher. The two hours simply whizzed by and when we got to eat what we made, we felt like we were in heaven. There is nothing like a warm pastei de nata, fresh from the oven to fuel your soul. As soon as we got back to our apartment, the recipe had already been sent to our emails. I highly recommend this cooking class, as we absolutely adored the entire experience. Thank you Jo and Fabi, we will always remember this wonderful experience. Love Rowena and Tracey Brewer (via London and New Zealand)
We had an amazing time making pastel de natas in this experience. We had a full group but we all got a lot of attention so that everyone’s turned out perfect. We enjoyed learning about the techniques used, and how shop-bought versions differ to homemade ones. We got to make 3 pastel de natas each and of course they all turned out delicious! Definitely recommend this experience.
We had a wonderful experience at the Pastel de Nata baking class at The Kitchen! Everything was very well organized, the kitchen was spotless, and the small group of only four people created a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Our chef was teaching her first class in English, and she did an excellent job. She was very kind, professional, and explained everything clearly. We started the class with a delicious homemade Port wine cocktail, and at the end we enjoyed a small glass of Port wine together while tasting our freshly baked Pastéis de Nata. It was a lovely touch that made the experience even more special. We had a fantastic time and are now excited to bake Pastéis de Nata at home. We would definitely recommend this class to anyone visiting Lagos or Algarve!
Very enjoyable would highly recommend
So much fun and wonderful instruction. Our family of 5 had a great time. We hope to make these again when we get home
This experience was wonderful! Very hands on and fun. The instructors were very knowledgeable and helpful to be sure we understood each step of the process. Added benefit was the wine drinks to sample as we baked and as we ate our finished pastry. Definitely a recommended activity while in Lagos! Looking forward to making this at home. Obrigada!
The class instructors were so nice! They taught us tips and tricks of how to make pastel de nata at home!
Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. We found ourselves comparing all pastel de nata that we ate to the ones we made in this class.
Wonderful experience. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and delicious end result! Couldn’t believe the layers we created in the dough. It was a highlight of our trip.
Thank you Joana and Lara for the wonderful experience and good coaching. We will definitely make more pastel at home!
The whole experience was fab. Jo and Lara really looked after us and trained us well. We will deffo be making Pastel Del Nata back in London very soon.
Nice and cozy room, excellent teachers, great company and tasteful pastel de natas. Best way to spend some hours!
THAT WAS THE BEST WAY TO SPEND OUR MORNING. Lara and Jo were very nice and helpful. It was a great experience. I would love to come back.
It was a fun class to learn the technique. However for the price we each paid and having to work with a partner, which was not specified I feel the price is excessive. You make “3” tarts. One lady in the class demanded to work alone while the other 8 of us had no choice (unless requested) to work in pairs. If you are going to do a “pair” thing then the cost should be half of what it is. An individual doesn’t get the full experience being paired up unless they requested to do so. For me I feel I paid way too much money to be paired up with someone when I never requested that. I would have had a way better experience doing this on my own which I thought I was doing. Money brought in for a two hour class that morning was over $900 just for the morning!! Seems a little excessive .
We loved the experience and the food was delicious
Amazing class! The instructors were fantastic, knowledgeable, and very helpful. I can't believe how delicious our tarts were. We also had the Port Wine pairing, and it was great!
Very nice and tasty experience how to make the Pastel de nata easily at home. Also the atmosphere with Joana and Lara was great and relaxed!
Great class, detailed instructions, lots of fun and well worth it! Would happily recommend to anyone looking for a new experience.
Had a wonderful time learning the technique of making the traditional Pastel de Nata. Joana and Lara were wonderful, informative, patient instructors. This activity is a must do and good for all skill levels. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the ending was delicious!
My friend and I very much enjoyed our Pastel de Nata cooking class Our instructor, Joanna, and her assistant were friendly and welcoming. We learned the technique for puff pastry, a skill we will use again. We learned how to prepare the filling, which was very delicious!! While we waited for them to bake we enjoyed chatting with the other students. This class was held in a spotlessly clean kitchen.
We came with friends and had a brilliant afternoon. The kitchen is amazing and Joana was very engaging and entertaining. The pastel de natas were absolutely delicious and we had great fun making them. Even though a few of them escaped their pastry cases they still tasted delicious! It was bought as a birthday present for my friend and Joana put a candle into one for us to celebrate I’d recommend this to everyone. Definitely a very memorable experience in beautiful Lagos. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to everyone.
Fantastic experience and great fun . Excellent tuition by lovely people in a beautiful kitchen. Highly recommended!
Fantastic experience! Jo was a wonderful instructor and her assistant Lara was also so helpful. They created an awesome, fun atmosphere, especially for us baking novices. The new location is beautiful! Would highly recommend. The oven had a slight issue on the day of our class; even then, the pastries were DELICIOUS!
The Kitchen (Jo and team) provided a wonderful experience for my girlfriend and I. We made the delicious Pastel de nada pastries and had so much fun doing so. Jo was so informative, lively, and made sure our experience was a 20/10. This has been the highlight of our trip. I could not recommend booking with The Kitchen more and when we return to Lagos, we will definitely be taking another class with Jo. Thank you for making our visit so special!! We had a blast.
Excellent fun 2hrs, learning how to cook one of my favourite sweet treats! Went with my wife and my mum, who is in her 80s, and the experience was accessible and fun for all of us. Joana makes the whole thing fun (even through the most fiddly steps) and the glass of port wine at the end was a very welcome addition:-)
We had a wonderful time making Pastel de Nata. The steps were easy and the end result was delicious!
My husband and 2 girlfriend's--all bakers and eaters of fine desserts--attended this class. It could not have been better. Learned some shortcuts to making both delicious custard but also fabulously flakey pastry. We can't wait to try at home.
We arrived (myself and daughter (15))to be greeted by Joanna- very friendly. There were 6 others who joined too. We had stations around the table in pairs. First of all we learned how to make the custard filling and then we had a go at making our own puff pastry. This was fab. Whilst the pastel de natas were baking, we did a quiz and were poured a glass of port. Once baked we tasted and sprinkled optional cinnamon (delicious). Thoroughly enjoyed our time and now feel confident to have a go once we are home. Thank you Joanna.
Jo was friendly, warm and welcoming. The class was well organised and lots of fun. Our pastel de nata was delicious. The venue was immaculately clean and we really enjoyed our experience.
This was a wonderful experience. My husband and I had a great time learning how to make Pastel de Nata. Joana and Lara did an amazing job. Unfortunately our Pasteis didn’t turn out too good due to our own fault(make sure you separate the egg yolks properly). Joana felt so bad that she made an entire new batch the next day and hand delivered them to all of us. She is a wonderful person and is very passionate about her cooking and teaching.
Wonderful setting and Joana and Lara were very knowledgeable about this treasured Portuguese dessert. Learned a lot and had a great time. Highly recommend.
A fun few hours and a tasty finish. Good introduction to cooking in Portugal and a sociable activity. Would definitely recommend.
The Kitchen in Lagos was one of the highlights of our trip. Margarita was a fantastic instructor, keeping things fun and easy to follow, while Lara (apologies if I misspelled) was incredibly helpful throughout. We baked pastel de natas from scratch, and enjoying them fresh out of the oven was unforgettable. This is an experience we’d recommend to anyone visiting Lagos. Pro Tip: Book ahead — it’s a popular class and worth planning for.
This was a fantastic fun activity to do while in Portugal. The class was very organised and professionally run and Margarita was so friendly and made us all feel very welcome. Learning to make the Pastel De Natas was a great holiday experience that I would thoroughly recommend!
Informative and fun. The host was friendly and helpful resulting in pastel de natas that tasted delicious. We attended with other solo and group visitors - everyone was made welcome.
Our family and a friend (daughters aged 12 and 19) attended the pastel de nata making class in August 2025. It was excellent. The class is very professionally run but accessible to younger and older people. We all really enjoyed the day and the quiz about the local area at the end was fun. I would highly recommend as it's a lovely way to experience a different side to Portugal and come away with a new skill.
This was the most fun I’ve had in a cooking class! The class leaders were funny and engaging. We learned how to make Pastel de Nata and the flavor was unbelievable. They had games for us to play while we waited for the sweets to cook. Loved that we got some port wine at the end with our pastel de nata. Absolutely recommend coming here for a class!
The instructors were very well educated and cultured. The entire process from beginning to end showed how well prepared and how well organized this is experience was. Not to mention the end product tasted amazing.
It was a lot of fun especially for a baking novice like myself. The small group dynamic meant that everyone was involved in some way. I would highly recommend this.
Great time at The Kitchen, really enjoyed the hands on experience to make the food. Friendly and fun, would recommend and English translation, very good.
