Amazing and beautiful place. Learned so much and saw many Wolfdogs. Took the Interactive tour that was well worth it. Got to personally meet these amazing animals. The self guided walk about is well organized and descriptive. Sadie, our interactive guide was terrific! Super experience!

Just go, you'll love it! These are spectacular animals. And to interact with them? Just that much more wonderful! And, all of the staff are great. We were vacationing in Banff/Lake Louse when we happened to find Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary on Maps. How absolutely fortunate that we found the website! It's such an amazing experience and a chance to learn about these wonderful wolfdogs. It is truly something that must be experienced. You'll never forget it. As I said, 'just go!'
Wonderful experience! Very friendly and knowledgeable care takers. The wolfdogs are beautiful and very well taken care of.
This is an amazing experience. Dress warm if the weather is a little cooler because it's mostly outside. Be prepared to take your time.
Great place to visit, learnt so much about wolves and wolf dogs, a wonderful place designed to protect and educate. Helpful staff and lots of information to take in. What a wonderful cause and well worth a visit. 🇬🇧
A real highlight of our trip. Very educational (even the hard truths about how wolfdogs came to exist in the first place). The tour is very well designed to make sure that the ambassador dogs receive the most human attention, and that the high percentage wolfdogs are not disturbed too much. The animals have a lot of space, this really felt like a place that cared about the wolfdog welfare. Would definitely recommend, lots of parking available and lots of cool stuff in the gift shop.
We went on the Intro Tour here, a great experience. They do great work by rescuing wolfdogs and effectively giving them a second life. For those that don't know, a wolfdog is a dog which has been especially bred to have a varying element (percentage) of wolf, these are bred specifically because some people think it's cool to own a wolf (or a dog which looks like one) as a pet, but as they are part wild animals, they still have wild traits amd do not, in the main, make good pets, which leads their owners to getting rid of them, which leads to most of them being put down. The sanctuary is able to provide a home for a small number of them and also educates people that owning one of them is a bad idea.
Beautiful and scenic sanctuary walk, the wolf dogs are so beautiful to see up close. Saw so many! Nice you can wonder around and spend as much time as you would like on the self guided walk
Staff were very friendly and the overall experience was great. I loved meeting the wolfdogs, goats, and chickens. It was such a surreal experience. I recommend dressing warm and bringing an umbrella just in case. If you’re in the area, you need to visit!
Good for family with kids, and worth to wait for the information session
Great experience! It was nice cool weather so we got to see a lot of the wolves being active. We have two boys and they loved it.
I visited on my way from Banff to Calgary and had the meet and greet with the wolfdogs. It was such a lovely sanctuary, the staff were very kind and knowledgeable and the wolfdogs are incredible. Well worth the detour.
Great experience, very knowledgeable staff. Lots of beautiful wolf dogs. Parking is easy and cute little gift shop.
Wolfdogs are awesome!!! Even with the cheapest admission we still got to see the wolfdogs up close. Be sure to align your visit time with the Wolfdog Wisdom sessions to howl with the wolves! Very educational, fun, and definitely worth the price. Not too crowded either
It was very cool seeing all of the wolf dogs. This place has wonderful enclosures for them and you can tell they are very well cared for. We did the tour and enjoyed learning their stories. We had a lot of fun feeding the goats, chickens, and guard dogs too.
Really good experience and worth the money. The sanctuary is well spread out and maintained. We opted to do the self guided tour due to the timing but it would have been great to hear the information provided in a guided tour. That said, the many information boards around the paths were very informative. It was lovely to see so many dogs being cared for in such a nice environment.
Our visit to was absolutely unforgettable. The sanctuary is beautiful, well maintained, and surrounded by stunning scenery that makes the entire experience feel peaceful and unique. We did one of the interactive tours where we were able to get up close and personal with the wolfdogs, and it was truly an amazing experience. The tour felt very personal, and the staff took the time to answer questions and share so much information about the animals, their behaviors, and the importance of conservation and education. You can really tell how much care and passion goes into looking after the wolfdogs. The experience was not only exciting but also incredibly informative. We learned so much during our visit, and it gave us a whole new appreciation for these beautiful animals. Seeing the wolfdogs up close was breathtaking, and the connection you feel during the tour is something we will never forget. I highly recommend visiting Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary to anyone looking for a meaningful, educational, and unforgettable experience.
Great place which gives you an insight into the wolfdogs and their behaviours . Very knowledgeable team who are happy to explain things . What a great job they do, very passionate
Self guided tour at a slow ish pace, reading about half the signs and stopping to admire all that we could see took a little over an hour. Every part of our experience was amazing, down to the gift shop
It was such an amazing experience, to see these animals up close.... and then they howled!! We will definitely be back!
Absolutely brilliant! Would definitely recommend going
What an amazing experience. A wonderful place taking care of very special animals. We upgraded to the interactive tour and would also recommend that.
Very calming experience. Being able to hear their howl and see them roaming and in their element. The staff are all wonderful and love what they do. Definitely support the sanctuary and all the work they do to help these beautiful animals.
What a fun time. Being someone that is an animal advocate and in the veterinary field I always love tours that are animal related. The space provided for these rescue pups is amazing. Glad that someone is advocating for them. Learned about this place last minute, if ever able to go back will plan ahead of time to do the experience where you can interact with them more.
We went for the Intro tour and had a great time! The guides showed us a pair of high-content wolfdogs, Atka and Meeka, provided a talk on the animals and the sanctuary, and answered questions. It was just us and one other group (5 people total) in the talk. After that we walked around looking at the different wolf dogs and reading the signs. I was worried they would be hiding away because it's winter, but we saw plenty out and about. We were even lucky enough to hear them do a big howl!
I would definitely recommend taking the time to visit the sanctuary! It is a well run facility and the animals are well cared for! The animals are all beautiful and it is a great learning experience. It is sad to here the origin story of why the wolf dogs exist but it is great that there is a place for their rescue!
It's an amazing experience, you are right up close to the wolves . The facilities and wolf habitat are excellent
Seeing the animals up close is amazing, would absolutely come back in the winter to see them playing on the snow!
I cannot put into words how much we loved this and the interactive tour. It was an amazing experience that I will carry with me my whole life.
It’s lovely to see the wolfdogs in a safe beautiful environment! They look happy and content within their fenced boundaries!
Lovely to see the wolves. However very rude lady on reception who shouted out loud that I had no money on my card, when she in fact made an error and had to cancel and refund the transaction. She did not apologise and embaressed me in front of everyone .
What an amazing sanctuary. I would highly recommend a stop at this beautiful sanctuary, The staff was extremely knowledgeable and the care these animals get was second to none.
We did the interactive tour and it was very interesting. The Wolfdogs are quite independent so you may or may not get to touch them depends how they feel but we got to meet some of them. Well set up place with good information
We did the walking tour. We got to see several wolfs in different habitats. It was easy to find via google maps!
We did the interactive tour and it was wonderful. We (2 adults and a 17 and 19 year old) walked around first which allowed us to be more educated for the interactive tour. You go in the enclosures with the guide and get to feed the dogs treats and give them good pets. You can tell the owners of the sanctuary and the workers love the wolf dogs. We did this tour on the way from the Calgary airport to Banff. It was a great stop in the middle of the drive. We are super happy we did it.
This is an amazing sanctuary for these wolf dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and learned so much! The drive out from Calgary was not busy, so it was a peaceful way to spend the morning. I would definitely recommend this to any animal lover!
We decided to do this tour as part of our journey from Banff to Calgary airport to use up some time. I am so pleased we did it. It was truly amazing and my 15 year old son said it was the highlight of all of our animal experiences in our three week holiday to British Coloumbia and Alberta. Thanks you so much for the eduction, I didn't even know Wolfdogs were a things, I thought I had booked a Wolf Tour.
My rating is partially influenced by the price of $49 (Canadian) per person for what amounts to two 30-minute talks including a feeding session with two wolfdogs. The rest of the time we were free to wander around enclosures where we might or might not see a wolfdog at some distance. There are signboards at each enclosure giving a brief history and description of each wolfdog. The talks were interesting, but this seems like a bit of a tourist trap. My animal-loving daughter loved it, so for those that are interested, it's worth it. But for that price, I could see an entire zoo. It's for a good cause, so I didn't mind too much.
The weather didn’t cooperate but we still had a great time. It was cold and miserable for us but the Wolfdogs loved it. They were playful and gave us a really cool howling session. We learned a lot and enjoyed watching the enrichment activity with the person they have bonded with. It was such a cool experience to watch him and the Wolf dogs interact with each other.
A beautiful sanctuary, great staff, and the wolfdogs provided a very enjoyable walkthrough with their antics and mere presence. Magnificent animals that are well cared for and respected. The temperature the day we were there was about 23 and it was sunny.
We saw a flyer at one of the hotels about this place and thought it would be a great stop on would way back to Calgary. You do have to get a little off the main road to get there, but we think it’s worth the effort if you have the time in your schedule. I think they had around 20 wolf dogs when we were there, but it can vary. You can tell that they take great care of these animals and try to respect them at every step. It was very interesting to learn how they determine when wolf dogs are high content, medium content and low content wolf dogs, and they have some of each at the sanctuary. You basically walk through the various enclosures (specially designed to keep both the wolf dogs and visitors safe at all times. The enclosures also include various features to help them acclimate to the environment. During our walk through, one of the workers entered one of the enclosures with 3 of the wolf dogs and provided lots of information about them as she brushed them (all were shedding badly as part of their normal seasonal process). After the talk, she then proceeded to feed them. It was interesting to see how the different wolf dogs reacted and protected their food. They also offer a tour (3 times a day I think) to give more detail about the wolf dogs and what they do at the sanctuary, but our timing wasn’t right for the tour.
I visited Yamnuska 6 years ago when last in the area, so was keen to revisit and see how it had grown and developed. It was wonderful then, and even more so now. They have so many wolfdogs in their care, but it's clear that they all have the space, care and enrichment that they need. Walking around the site and the different enclosures is great, with lots of info boards along the way, as well different talks during the day. I paid for the additional interactive tour which was fantastic, having the opportunity to meet two of the packs and the special characters in them, as well as learn more about them, wolfdogs in general and the centre itself. A definite visit if you're in the area.
We had a lovely time at the wolfdog sanctuary which was very informative. We paid for an extra intro talk and we learnt a tonne. It's clear that the animals live a comfortable life in this beautiful place.
We had a wonderful day at the sanctuary. It was worth every penny. We did the interactive tour and has a great experience with the wolf dogs. Then we walked around did some more educational activities, including a “group howl” that got the whole sanctuary howling. The tour guides were knowledgable and interesting, and the whole sanctuary was really well appointed. And it is great to support their mission. Can’t recommend more highly.
My husband is passionate about wolves. He loved it. Lady giving demonstrations was very friendly and informative.
We loved this. Arrived in time for the Wolfdog Wisdom session and Erin did a great job of teaching us about the wolfdogs while running a demonstration. Kudos to the people doing this important work.
We visited the sanctuary yesterday whilst staying in Cochrane with my daughter who has recently moved to Canada. We were overwhelmed with how special it was and how the wolfdogs are cared for so well. It was so evident to see the complete dedication and love these animals are shown by their carers. We were given an intro talk by a lovely girl at 12.15 introducing us to Aspen and Griz- she was passionate, helpful and obviously totally in love with the wolfdogs which was so endearing. She was super knowledgable and a wonderful advocate for the sanctuary.! We also met Erin who introduced us to the Pharoh pack. We were gobsmacked to hear after speaking to her that she had only been working at the centre for 3 weeks! Her energy was infectious and she exhibited such warmth, respect and consideration for the dogs as well as being interesting and captivating as she engaged with us and the pack. What a wonderful experience for us to see this fantastic centre in action. Knowing that Costco supply their foods has made me renew my membership for their UK store where I live. Congratulations to the team who recruit such lovely people to work at this amazing place and thank you for a wonderful day.
A new experience for us. Great day in the outdoors visiting with these animals. We learned a lot. The staff was very interesting and involved.
We were super excited for this experience to meet and greet the wolf dogs. It was nice to see so many up close and personal. The guide was extremely informative and bubbly. It was great to see all the wolf dogs are given large spaces to live and roam in. Unfortunately our only let down is the website is slightly misleading that you can actually walk around and interact with the wolf dogs. In reality you are to remain seated in chairs for the duration and cannot freely interact, which makes it hard to get the photos and the experience that is portrayed on the website. We understand this may be for safety purposes however, overall it was still an amazing experience.
Wolf dogs really well cared for..they would likely be dead if not there. Bah humbug to exotic pet trade. They staff are super caring and animals thrive. Lots of howling which was eerie and beautiful. Would recommend.
