Beautiful night. Lovely staff helping you go through everything. Outstanding event. Wood would recommend it to anyone. I will return again.

Itinerary
Come experience the world's largest accessible Dark Sky Preserve and North America's smallest town with us. Your tour starts at the Main Lodge of Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, steps away from our 38-seat dome theatre. This unique experience is only available in Jasper, and it's more than a planetarium show—it's an interactive journey with a knowledgeable local guide. You'll get to explore the wonders of the night sky, from Indigenous constellations to the Aurora Borealis over mountain peaks, from views of Rocky Mountain glaciers from space to the edge of the universe and back. And don't forget to ask your guide questions after our descent back to Earth! Experience all of this and more from the comfort of a climate-controlled dome theatre.
Come and explore the night sky with us! Put on your warmest clothes and join us outside the Planetarium to get an up-close and personal look at some of the most powerful telescopes in the Rocky Mountains. When the skies are clear, we'll provide guided viewing through our telescopes. Even if it's cloudy, you'll still get to see 4K replays of the views we capture during clear nights. Plus, you'll learn all about the science behind the Northern Lights, get tips on photographing Auroras, and have the chance to get your hands on a Moon rock, and even a Mars rock! Don't miss out - join us to explore the night sky!

Starting with the good, all the people guiding the experience were amazing. Kind and engaging. Looking through the telescopes was cool as well. Now maybe we didn't look at the info close enough, but the entire experience is in tent structures, so completely outside. The planetarium itself is quite small fitting maybe 30 people. It's a portable tent thing, not bad per se, but just not what we expected. We attended on a cold night in early October and it was maybe 40°. The heat was on in the planetarium when entering but then off for the show and it got freezing! Overall we felt it a bit lackluster for the price. if you’re looking for a true planetary experience, this is not it. If you want to see some stars through the telescope, touch some space rocks, and learn a few things about them, that part’s pretty cool. and just to mention, this is inside a large resort property, so you park and find your way to the main lodge, walk in the spa entrance, and then you’re waiting outside a art gallery until they line you up and you walk outside over through a fence into a small area where the planetarium and the other tents and telescopes are. It’s not hard to find, just keep your eyes peeled for the signs.
We were rather disappointed. The planetarium was a tent in a parking lot. I understand there may be issues with having a permanent structure inside a national park or with other restrictions but . . . Once taken to the tent, there weren’t enough of the recliners to look at the presentation displayed on the ceiling of the tent. But that meant several of us were in regular chairs along the edge straining our necks. There was a display in another tent which was just okay. We were then split into smaller groups and taken to different telescopes in hopes of seeing different stars/constellations - however there were clouds moving through- not within the control of the vendor. My traveling friend and I both thought this was overrated and overpriced. Sorry to say we do not recommend.
Your guides very knowledgeable and entertaining! Planetarium part of experience great! Sadly we had an early time slot so even if we had not had a rainy evening we couldn’t have done the telescope part. However the short discussions about asteroids and meteorites was very informative and holding a moon rock and a Mars rock were kind of exhilarating! The discussion about the northern lights was very informative and good! We didn’t get to see any northern lights while we were here but we remain hopeful that someday we will! Good show!
The planetarium show was at a style and substance level geared to grade school students. Most of the photos shown were outdated - only one or two from the Hubble telescope and none from the James Webb space telescope. In the telescope viewing part we saw mostly small sparkling dots look like slightly larger sparkling dots. The presenters were obviously very knowledgeable and passionate about astronomy. But that didn't save the day.
We did the planetarium and telescope tour starting at 9.45pm. It was a perfect night for looking at the stars and we started with a short walk to the planetarium tent. It’s generally very well done and the guide was informative. The we went outside to see specific items in the night sky thru 4 telescopes. That was very good. It was dark - obviously- and you needed to be careful especially on one of the telescopes where you had to go up a few steps on a metal ladder.
We spent 12 nights in the Canadian Rockies. It was a perfect trip except for the Planetarium experience. After being greeted by a young man, we walked through a dark parking lot to the area where the tour began. It was very dark and there were no lights. I am 77 years old and I was afraid I would trip and fall. Then we watched the overhead video which had people with masks on. They didn’t even show all of the planets. After that we went outside to see the sky/stars through telescopes. I assumed they would be very powerful and we would get a clear beautiful look at the sky. I was so so wrong. Once we had to climb a 6 ft aluminum ladder to look through one of them. I was afraid the ladder would turn over because it was not bolted down. When I got to the top and looked through to see the stars it was difficult to tell what You were seeing. The guide said “oh it just looks like a cotton ball”!!. 😱 I saw more stars with my naked eyes. I couldn’t wait for the tour to be over. It was a waste of our time and I certainly regretted spending over a hundred dollars on this disappointing tour. My advice is to skip this experience.
We booked the planetarium show and telescopes activity months ago before leaving the UK. Due to the wildfires in BC the air was a bit smoky and it was also quite cloudy on the evening that we went, b it we had a great time nonetheless, and would certainly recommend this activity to others. The rain check guarantee meant that we were invited back another night for the telescopes activity, free of charge. The staff were enthusiastic, knowledgeable and excellent. Each of them ran a different part of the evening, and they were very happy to chat and answer questions. All in all, a great evening!
Wonderful presentation and experience for my entire 3 generation family. Perfect ending to our vacation. All presenters were outstanding.
The skies were a bit hazy due to forest fires further away, but still the stars came out and were both impressive and awe inspiring. The initial talk in the planetarium was well delivered and put the size of Earth and our galaxy (even galaxy cluster) into perspective. I felt so tiny. The telescope views were not as clear as I would have liked, but the computer image telescope was amazing. We were a group of two families with 5 kids from 9 to 14 and they all came away inspired. It was also great to hold some real pieces of meteorite. We did the earlier session due to the age of the children, but the skies were still darkening and I would recommend the later one if you can manage to stay up!
Such a cool night with the stars and telescopes ..a bit of rock from mars and other extra planetary rocls Too … and that was before learning about the aurora and then… the telescopes ! It was amazing using the lasers to see what we were going to be looking at and then clambering up Steps to peek through eye pieces and see the stars ! The final screens showing the view through the largest Telescope Was really impressive . Learnt a lot , clear night and wonderfully Enthusiastic staff ! Thankyou
A great planetarium show, plus several exhibits and discussions about meteors and auroras, and viewing through telescopes with knowledgeable presenters; well worth it!
Such a cool late night activity for the family. Start off with a show inside an outside portable dome in some 0 gravity chairs and tour the night sky via projector and then head outside ans view stars and planets through 4 or 5 differ et telescopes. The staff are very attentive and knowledge on the subject. Parking js easy and included in your ticket. Plan this for a day that you dont have to wake up early the next morning because you will be home late
Disappointed with a couple of areas. Firstly the planetarium display was quite good, but the transitions zoomed so fast at times to make one feel unwell. Secondly, given the weather could not support telescope use, that part should have been cancelled which is something that we checked for, rather than providing an academic presentation. Disappointed for the money.
This was a great experience, made even better by the clearing skies we enjoyed that night. All the guides were quite knowledgeable and friendly. We especially enjoyed the telescope portion: so much to see with helpful guides.
Not worth the money. It is a series of tents in a parking lot of the Fairmont. You sit in camp chairs. Several astroid pieces to touch and a telescope aimed at the sun. Run by 20 somethings with little knowledge beyond their script. Cannot believe we wasted all that money on such a rinky dink operation.
Off night but the staff tries hard. We booked the combo planetarium and telescope tour. The planetarium equip had to be rebooted, and the guide's microphone stopped working. Outside it was a partly cloudy night, and the crew didn't turn off the bright lights in one tent until we asked so we could see the sky better. Positives were that the crew seems to know more than they cover unless asked. They have a nice scope with a video camera and 2 large monitors to display for guests. On a cloudless night well after dark, I imagine there are some impressive images for guests.
The planetarium show was cool, with lots of nice visuals and live commentary. The telescope was okay, but looking through the lens one by one takes up quite a lot of time. The workers absolutely try their best though and gave lots of information!
Amazing!!! Tyler and his team are so approachable, knowledgeable and truly passionate about what they do, it felt like we spent the night with friends who just happened to know everything about the night sky. They bring the beauty and mystic that can be found there alive but speak in terms us non-scientists understand :) Thank you so much! An absolute must-do in Jasper!!
During our recent stay at Jasper Fairmont (March 24th - 26th, 2026), my husband and I , as well as two other couples who traveled with us, booked the 9:45 pm planetarium and telescope experience offered by the hotel. We found this to be not only a huge disappointment but clearly a misleading and fraudulent way to acquire revenue. Nothing prepared us for a makeshift igloo looking outdoor tent called a planetarium, with lawn chairs and a space heater in the middle. It was below freezing temperatures in Jasper! The video projection is 20 minutes long, with very loud music that masks any attempt of an explanation provided by the narrator. And of course, no refund for the "unused telescope experience" due to bad weather. Oh, but you can come back within two years and use the telescope.... After the 20 minutes video projection one of the members of the planetarium team asked all of us to gather around a drum barrel fire, to go over the next steps. Keep in mind, this is happening during a very windy night and as I mentioned before, below freezing temperatures. Then they directed us to another outdoor tent with a tv screen and NO SOURCE OF HEAT....NOT EVEN A SPACE HEATER! We lasted 3 minutes and had to ran back to the main building. What a fiasco! My husband and I, as well as our friends are all retired and have saved our money after working very hard for many years to have a nice vacation. We all felt so defrauded for waisting approximately $150.00 per couple!
Enjoyed the whole experience. Planetarium was intimate and informative. Dress for the weather. We had a beautiful almost totally clear night. Much to see. The telescopes were a cool experience. We saw Beetlejoice, Saturn, the 7 sisters and others. This could be and should be set up with a permanent structure. The guides extremely knowledgeable and very good at sharing so all understood. Totally worth it. Great experience.
Well this is a different and totally fun Planetarium adventure. The planetarium is only open at night and Jasper is a Dark Sky area, so it is dark. The planetarium was just a couple of blocks away from our Cabin next to the Jasper Park Lodge. You meet at the Lodge and walk to the planetarium, so use your phone flashlight for a little help on dark and in our case icy and snowy walkways. First we went into their domed planetarium like tent, that holds about 34 people. It was like a camp night adventure except with projections of stars instead of a campfire, and very comfortable seating (camp style). They have a 40 minute program that covers events in the sky and the Jasper Dark Sky Preserve. The narrator was very good and very knowledgeable. Afterwards we made the rounds of several different stations that talk about meteorites and share samples, watch instant replay of live views from their telescopes and have a chance to look through a variety of telescopes at the stars. We are in our 70's and we were pretty tired by the end and pretty darn cold (we are from Arizona) so we decided to leave before it was over. The staff, in addition to being really smart, were so kind and helpful getting us back on the right path to our cabin. We stopped by the planetarium office on our way back and asked who these young men and women were in this very small town that were so knowledgeable. The manager told us they are mostly astrophysicists and a few space nerds. Very impressive and very very fun. Worth it!
This was our second time going and even though it was a little cloudy they really tried hard to give us a great viewing. It was delightful and everyone should go experience this, it is awesome!
The planetarium show seems a bit dated. The images seemed a bit washed out? Unfortunately, it was a cloudy night and bitterly cold so the star part didn't happen. Not their fault of course.
A great experience. Very knowledgeable guides. Answered all our questions. Was a little cloudy but still got see moon and Jupiter. So interesting.
Very informative tour about the stars, planets, and the universe. Unfortunately, because of the cloudy conditions, I didn’t see much of the skies nor the Northern Lights. Did a bit of stargazing. Staff were very friendly and kind.
All members were very informative and you could tell they had a passion for astrology and the wonders of the universe. We had a bit of a cloudy night but they still managed to catch some stars for us and gave us a rain check for a better night.
Honestly this was such a cool experience! The whole experience was incredibly interesting. The dome was such a great way to visually move through our universe and understand it in its magnitude. Although there was cloud cover and we weren’t able to use the telescope the presentations on the Auroras, meteors, and the telescope photo presentation from Jake and Casey was still worth it. Will be returning to use the telescope!
A fantastic experience at the Jasper Planetarium tonight - eye-opening and informative - loved the power of storytelling and the knowledge and enthusiasm of the staff, especially Jake. Unfortunately, the clouds didn’t clear for star gazing and dancing auroras, but we still left with a feeling of awe and wonder. Thank you! 🙏
What a terrific experience. Informative, entertaining and unique. All the team presenting the tour were helpful and obviously love what they do. Almost on cue, the cloudy skies cleared and enabled us to look at the moon, Saturn and twin star systems through the telescopes. Even more on cue, the Northern Lights made an appearance. Amazing. Our 90 minute tour ended up being 2 hours. A fantastic experience
It was very interesting and fun experience. The Planetarium was very informative. I learned a lot about the meteorites and the aurora.
Our group had an excellent time at the Jasper Planetarium! Our guide Josh was very knowledgeable and provided a great narration. The experience was breathtaking and educational, and I would highly recommend!!!
It was very much aimed at children. We picked a cloudy evening so not much to see. The set up could be smarter. It seemed a bit shabby. The staff are lovely and enthusiastic. A wonderful location if you pick al cold clear night
Very technical - included First Nations information and stories. The telescope view of Saturn and its rings was awesome!
The team there was very helpful to me with my mobility issues and I was able to enjoy the show and participate. The only disappointment was not being able to see Jupiter, but i guess it wasn't in our sky that night. Great fun! The narrator had a phenomenal voice, smooth like velvet, almost lulled me to sleep. He could easily market his gift on the world stage.
The planetarium was very interesting-a unique experience. The presenters were knowledgeable and enthusiastic I learned a lot
Our email confirmation told us to come 10 minutes prior to our time. We were actually that 10 minutes late due to Elk being on the highway and traffic being stopped. The instructions were not clear on where to check in. We asked a staff person where our activity was and he showed us. We did walk in after they had just started. The narrator asked our names. Told us we were too early for our scheduled time and we should leave until our 9:45 pm time. There were possibly 6 people in a pop up tent made to be a planetarium. He asked a gentleman and his young son to stop whispering and leave. My reservation were for 9:00 pm on my email confirmation.. I did find the actual planetarium “check in” site and inquired as to time and our being dismissed. I was told unfortunately my reservation was for 9:45 pm so if I didn’t mind waiting for the 9;45 pm session I could go. We left and went back to our hotel. I can’t say if the actual presentation is good or not. I can say it is not in a planetarium but a tent with a slide show. Definitely not what I thought I was paying $279.00 for 4 people for.
The beginning of the tour in the Planetarium was very interesting and informative. However, when our group went outside with all the other groups to use the telescopes, it was very unorganized. It is totally dark with people all around and you're told to follow a certain person ( if you can see or find them).
An enjoyable experience! The dome show was great and the time spent with the telescopes afterwards was also fantastic! The host/guides were all knowledgeable and friendly. The evening was clear so we had perfect viewing conditions. It was cool to be able to see the Milky Way with the naked eye. Definitely recommend this tour! Tip: Get to the JPL early and enjoy a pre-tour cocktail in their lounge 😉
Really disappointing deck chairs in basically a tent. After the “tent “ at the start we proceeded to the outside where the main presenter was standing beside a fire pit , and told us what the balance of the evening would be. At that be point my wife and I both looked at each other and knew the expensive evening would be poor fair and we were not disappointed. The first presenter we could not hear her and we quickly lost interest and left. I would recommend downloading some of the many instructional material on the stars and universe that’s out there . An expensive evening that we , I have to say, were looking forward to on our trip around Canada I personally would not recommend going to
All presenters and guides super nice and helpful. Nice and informative sky views of the stars. Totally worth it. Guest parking is at P3
Maybe I’m jaded because I was disappointed in this “Planetarium.” It was a tent outfitted with a projector. I left after a half hour with the following telescope event because it just wasn’t what was advertised. I should’ve paid attention to the negative reviews. Wildly overpriced!
This was a great tour and the staff were very knowledgeable. The telescope part after the dome was definitely more interesting and engaging. We had a clear sky and saw and stars and got some really cool pictures of the stars.
I would echo al the other one star reviews. Not worth the time or money. The staff are well meaning but it is a tent on an old tennis court with a few rocks in it.
We were surprised to see that the “planetarium” was in a tent. We expected a building. We knew the telescope part would be outside. Unfortunately we didn’t read the part about standing for long periods. Perhaps having chairs in the other 2 tents would reduce the length of time standing. It was cloudy on our night so we couldn’t use the telescopes. The 2 year period to come back is great for locals but a partial refund would be nice for those who are on a once in a lifetime vacation and have no chance of returning.
To call this a planetarium is a fraud. It’s a couple of tents and reclining lawn chairs, with college age kids reciting Google information and passing around three-d printed rocks. Complete waste of time and money for anyone over the age of five.
Great night and fun experience The presentation and dome was amazing All the individuals who presented were so informative
This was a disappointment. We expected a scientific based presentation, not one focused on more of a Hollywood sensation approach. There were way too many people in our group. The people in the back could not hear what the guide was saying in the front. The planetarium was a tent in the middle of a field and there were only seats that reclined for HALF of the people in the very large group. The quality of the presentation in the planetarium was subpar. I think if the fire department were to visit, they would find a violation of too many people in the structure. We left after the poorly presented planetarium part when we realized that the telescopes were setup in the same field with people leading the viewing without any scientific experience and again very large groups. I think this would have been fun for when my son was 10 years old and expectations were low. Spending almost $100 a piece for the low quality was irritating to say the least.
This was promoted on 'rainy days in Jasper' - it definitely needs a clear sky, we were lucky with the weather, and I'm so glad we found it. The staff are really knowledgable and enthusiastic about astronomy - particularly Tyler (an astrophysist). I would love to come back to the dark skies festival in October.
Absolutely loved this tour! The 45 minute dome was informative, while still being entertaining! Plus our guide was more then happy to stick around after for my questions regarding the planets in our solar system! The telescopes where honestly the highlight of the tour for me! Getting to see distant star clusters with my own eyes throught the telescopes left me speechless! The clouds did roll in towards the end, and my guides mentioned a 2 year raincheck that I will be sure taking them up on to see more of the cosmos. Thank you to the guides for an unforgettable tour!
