We spend an amazing day with our lovely guide Bee. The tour was very well planned and executed. Bee was extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife and scenery, had great hidden gems up her sleeve and on top she was a good hang - fun and sweet. We had the best day, highly recommend.

Itinerary
Your local guide plans each day's route on the day. Every morning, we check the weather, road conditions on the Icefields Parkway, and the ice on Abraham Lake, then choose the order of stops so you see each one at its best. Dress for a full day outside in freezing temperatures. Wear warm layers, a hat and gloves, and waterproof winter boots. Conditions in the mountains can change quickly. The stops below are a sample of where the tour may go.
Walk out onto the frozen surface of Abraham Lake, just east of Banff National Park, where methane bubbles freeze in stacked white layers beneath clear ice. Your guide finds the best patch of ice for the day, so you can see and photograph the bubbles up close.
At Bow Summit, the highest point on the Icefields Parkway, your guide fits you with snowshoes or ice cleats and shows you how to use them. If you can walk, you can snowshoe. Follow a snowy forest trail to the Peyto Lake viewpoint, where the lake's famous wolf-head shape sits below a ring of peaks and glaciers. The walk is optional but well worth it: an easy to moderate 1.5 km (0.9 mi) round trip, about 45 minutes.
At 1,920 m (6,300 ft), Bow Lake is one of the largest lakes in Banff National Park and the source of the Bow River. In winter it freezes into a wide white plain beneath Crowfoot Mountain, with the Bow Glacier, part of the Wapta Icefield, spilling down the peaks above it.
Every full-day tour includes Abraham Lake, Peyto Lake, and Bow Lake. Along the way, your guide may add extra stops based on the weather, road conditions, and recent wildlife sightings. These could include Waterfowl Lakes, Herbert Lake, Cline River Falls, or a quiet roadside pullout with a view worth stopping for.

I’m so sorry I forget my guide’s name but he is a warm and lovely person full of knowledge of animals and everything. He has 4 years of experience. He loves chewing candies and good at everything. He gives me a very unforgettable experience!!!So professional and friendly!
Had a great all day tour seeing a variety of different sights, from elevated viewpoints to sublime, vast natural expanses. Our guide, Rae, was spirited, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the area. Since we went in the spring, weather conditions meant we didn't get to see ice bubbles, but the journey was still worth it - we even got a close-up view of a big horn sheep herd lazily grazing in the middle of the road!
Had a fabulous day exploring Icefields Parkway , Peyto Lake, Abraham Lake ice bubbles and Bow Lake. Simon was a great, well informed guide. Saw long horn sheep meandering on the parkway!
the tour itself was EXCELLENT and tess was a wonderful tour guide. but if you book this, contact radventures directly to order lunch and rent equipment like snowshoes and skates. you cannot do these things through viator and you cannot do them after you've left. but there's no place on the tour to get lunch. either bring your own or order directly through the tour company.
Every stop on our tour was fantastic and unique. Our tour guide Simon was excellent and provided lots of interesting information about the sites, the area, history, wildlife, etc. He was also so welcoming and friendly and made the trip really fun. Appreciated having good bathroom stops and multiple hot drinks along the way as well. Lunch was very tasty too.
The excursion is great, our guide he was wonderful. The lake had plenty of bubbles and was nicely frozen over. All the stops were beautiful. My only complaint is it literally says in the viator page contact RAD for ice skate rentals. I literally did several days before and was met with a, oh you booked with viator we can’t rent you skates but if you cancel with viator and rebook with us you can then rent skates. So basically was being told cancel, rebook so we don’t have to pay Viator anything and then we’ll let you rent skates. Seemed like shady way for them to avoid paying Viator a booking fee, if you don’t honor what it says on Viator don’t be on here on the first place. I kept my Viator booking and simply walked on the lake. We considered renting in town and brining them ourselves but opted just to walk on the lake. Again let this take nothing away from the tour and the guide but the office is trying to avoid viator bookings.
We had an absolutely brilliant day. Snowshoeing on Bow Lake in the morning sun was a real highlight. Charlie, our guide, was fantastic—he suggested we stop there first because the light was perfect, and he was right. We hadn’t actually booked the snowshoeing, but Charlie had already spoken to his boss about taking us since the conditions were ideal. We felt so lucky to have that experience, especially since we never would have guessed how much fun it would be. Our main reason for booking the tour was to visit Abraham Lake and see the famous ice bubbles, and that certainly didn’t disappoint. We were given spikes to walk safely on the ice, and Charlie made sure we reached the best spot where the bubbles were clearly visible. The hot chocolate and s’mores were such a thoughtful touch. Charlie’s knowledge of the region and the lakes added so much to the day. We truly had the best time, and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone.
Friends Diane (Sam) Hordern, Carol Shannon & Sue Laroux went on this excursion today. We had the most wondrous & gorgeous & beautiful spectacular experience. Our guide was Charlie & he gave us an interesting & most informative tour of the Banff environs. I was very impressed with His friendliness & ability to cater for all his clients. We enjoyed the lunch & the hot chocolate! Yours sincerely Sam Hordern
Luba was our guide today. What a legend, he is such a nice human. Loves his job, experienced all around world on epic hikes and an ultra marathon races the trip was so much more informative, fun and relaxing because of him. Thanks Lubo. I wish you all the best.
Brilliant tour, even better than expected. Our guide, Lubo, is a walking encyclopedia - so knowledgeable and friendly, really made the day … :-)
Fantastic trip to Abraham Lake, Bow and Peyto Lakes. Could not more highly recommend this trip. Made even better by the guide Charlie who whilst not only being a great guy had an incredible knowledge of the area.
Tess was a wonderful guide to the ice fields and bubble lake where we snowshoed, cramp-on hiked and enjoyed the beautiful of natural Canada. Our three generations of family enjoyed it together.
Excellent tour through the Icefields Parkway with our tour guide Nolan. The road had just reopened after heavy snow and avalanches and Nolan was great at guiding us through some amazing sights, safely. Great winter views of places we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to see on our own. We were able to see Peyto Lake, Abraham Lake, and Bow Lake and gorgeous scenery on the drive throughout. Nolan was great at answering our questions and providing a local’s understanding of Banff NP and the surrounding wilderness. Highly recommend!!
My husband and I had an amazing time on the Icefields Parkway tour! Nolan was an incredible guide and made the trip great. He was very concerned with our safety after so much snow had recently fallen. We were able to enjoy all the stops along the way and all provided breathtaking views of Banff NP!
We booked the Icefields Parkway & Ice Bubbles of Abraham tour during our 2025 year-end Christmas/New Year trip to Banff, and it was an outstanding experience. Our guide, Noland, was fantastic — knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely caring. He is also an extremely safe and responsible driver, which made a huge difference given the heavy snow and winter road conditions. We felt completely at ease the entire time. The snowshoeing and the walk on Abraham Lake to see the ice bubbles were both unforgettable. Everything was well organized, and the scenery was absolutely stunning. Highly recommend this tour and Noland as a guide.
The guide Lubo was very knowledgeable and helpful. He ensured we had fun and were safe. The adventure of ice bubbles and snow shoeing were fun. Scenery was magnificent.
We had the best day with Charlie! He arrived on time to pick us up and told us how the day would go. The van was comfortable and nice, we had a small group on our tour so there was plenty of room. Along the whole drive Charlie offered lots of information about the local history, the mountains we saw, and interesting facts about our stops, which were all really good and each unique from the other. This tour was awesome and I highly recommend it! Thanks to Charlie for making it such a great experience, even adding in bonus stops with the extra time we had, and for talking all of our photos!!
One of the best tours we’ve ever been on. Charlie our tour guide couldn’t have done more and was so knowledgeable and chatty. Really really loved every second of it
This trip has been the highlight of my trip to Banff. Abraham Lake is magical. To walk on an aqua lake with bubbles. I could hear the bubbles forming. Great photo opportunity. I also enjoyed snow shoeing at Bow Lake and ice shoeing at Peyto Lake whilst it was lightly snowing. The landscape is stunning. Our guide Tess was very knowledgeable and took plenty of photos for us. Lunch was delicious too and they catered to my gluten intolerance and my daughters peanut allergy. I highly recommend this tour, you won't regret it.
Nolan was wonderful guide/driver for our private tour up to the ice fields with numerous stops on way in both directions. Johnny Simpson and Bow Lake, wedding Veil waterfalls, the Ice Fields and glaciers and Peyto Lake to name a few. Our small group of three were educated with his knowledge of various sights and flora and fauna.
The locations were stunning with blue lakes and epic glaciers. The bus was comfortable and well stocked with water. Simon our guide was funny, knowledgable and really down to earth! Fully recommend
What a fantastic experience. We spent the day visiting the Peyto Lake lookout, Bow Lake and Marble Canyon. Nolan was an excellent guide. He was professional and well informed and he was also able to tailor the experience to suit the weather conditions. We would totally recommend this tour.
Beautiful way to see the area. Lots of stops for photos and leg stretching and we did a couple of decent length hikes. We hiked with micro spikes and snowshoes. Nice small group let us have good conversations while we drove. Simon our guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and that really added to the experience. An absolute must do if visiting Banff as the mountains outside Banff and the drive along the Icefield Parkway were all spectacular!!
Our tour guide, Mitchell, was amazing! He took care of every detail, provided interesting back story to the areas we visited and made sure everyone was well cared for, no matter the levels they were at.
Mitch was an awesome guide. He knew his stuff and made sure everyone was comfortable. The trip itself was well worth it. Great short hikes with great views.
This was an excellent tour and Tess, our guide was lovely. She was very knowledgeable and helpful as was Harry who was assisting her that day. The scenery was amazing, interesting and I enjoyed the whole trip. I definitely recommend this tour and order your lunch through them as it was very good.
After having knee surgery I was concerned that I would struggle with the walking in this trip, but Nolan was amazing! Apart from making sure I was ok, he helped me in so many ways, for example, putting on my ice cleats and always being considerate and thoughtful. At the same time, he was a mine of information and shared his knowledge with all of us in a lively way, answering everyone’s questions. Nolan made a point of talking to everyone on the trip and made us all welcome. He made sure we all had the opportunity to visit ‘restrooms’ (toilets) which is actually very important when out for the day! There were plenty of opportunities for taking photos at the amazing places we visited and Nolan offered to take photos of individuals or families. At the end of the day, he offered to drop everyone off at a convenient location, which was welcome after a full day out. Nolan was a cheerful, polite and very friendly guide and I have no hesitation in recommending him, and Radventures if you are looking to book a tour.
Definitely the highlight of our Banff trip. Michael F., our guide was fantastic, ensuring we had a safe and fun experience. Skating on Abraham Lake was amazing. The scenery is spectacular. Snowshoeing at bow lake was fun. Hiking to Peyto Glacier was great and he helped spot big sheep horn. He took great photos of us as well. Super knowledgeable guide. Learned so much about the area. Do this tour!
This has to be my favorite tour. It was a total of 3 people which was perfect. We were able to take our time and enjoy every bit of this tour. Our tour guide was Tyler who was very knowledgeable and a great conservationist. Our group was great. The icefields were amazing and we got there just in time. As we were leaving a huge tour group was coming out on the ice. Radventures knew the perfect time to get to where we needed so we could get some great photos. Definitely a 10 out of 10.
It was amazing tour- Taylor was so informative and energetic. Also it was so nice that there were only 3 of us on this tour. The hot chocolate definitely gave me a boast after a very cold weather. Definitely will book again with them when coming one summer.
It was a fantastic experience. Fortunately, the weather was very good and the road conditions were nice. Our guide Rae is a very energetic and kind young lady who has answered thousands of questions about the national park areas and other things and always makes our safety a priority. The hot chocolate in the afternoon just boosts the experience! Thanks very much for taking photos for us!
I had Nolan as my driver today for the Abraham lake tour. He's extremely welcoming and sociable. The weather wasn't in our favour at times so we spent many hours in the van but he got us all involved in conversation and made it a fun environment. Very knowledgable about the area, the wildlife, the lakes. Definitely the type of driver I want and enjoy on these small tours and never made us feel like we had to rush anything and went at our pace. Would 100% book a tour again under Nolan!!
It is a must do winter experience. It was stress free as we did not have to do the driving and we saw glaciers, frozen waterfalls, frozen lakes and most importantly the frozen bubbles of Lake Abraham. You could gawk in awe at the wonder that is the Canadian Rockies. We are now spoiled for mountains in America. We had Tess as a guide from Radventures and she was a 5 star guide. She was engaging, knowledgeable and took her job seriously. She included all of us on the trip and make us all feel like an integral part of the trip. Yes Tess' mom, she rocked it (You are welcome Tess and you did not have to pay us). We would do this trip again and highly recommend it.
Wow- what a great day! From hiking in to Peyto Lake in crampons, to all the beauty seen along the icefields parkwayand finally the ice bubbles- like alien bubble villages encased in ice. Awesome. The van/bus comfortable and clean and booking was easy with radventures Canada. They answered many of my questions ( we wanted to order a bag lunch and snow shoes) before booking- very friendly and professional company to work with. Our guide, Tyler ( or as I called him Kyle - inside joke) was professional , personable and very knowledgeable. He answered so many of our questions while also was able to give us so much information about where we were going, what we were seeing as well as the history of the area. You can tell he loved his job. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with him. And he’s a good driver . Well worth the cost and time. The day flew by! Lots of memories to return home with. Thank you.
The tour of the Icefields and Ice bubbles was amazing! Our guide Micheal F was very knowledgeable and helpful. He didn’t rush and showed us everything there was to beautiful Alberta and its lakes and mountains. Also his hot chocolate was warm and delicious!!
Our Australian family of four spent a month in Canada and did all sorts of tours and experiences but skating on Abraham Lake was unanimously voted as one of the top three experiences for every single member of our family. It kind of sits in one of those "things to do before you die" lists (especially for those of us who live in places where this isn't something we could usually dream of doing). The methane lakes are absolutely stunning and we are so grateful that we booked this experience. Geo was our tour guide and he managed the tour well. Very helpful with making sure we had what we needed and ensuring that those of us who were unsteady on the ice were feeling confident. My husband actually said that skating on the lakes was one of the best things he's done in his life (this is high praise as we travel a LOT and he's had all manner of amazing experiences around the world). This is a wonderful tour to enjoy some of the unique experiences of the region. Make sure you dress warmly. Really warmly. This tour definitely required warmer clothing than the other tour we did with this company to Lake Louise and Johnston Canyon. It's a good idea to just purchase the lunch on this one too. The Johnston Canyon tour you could easily grab your own lunch if you didn't want to preorder but that is not the case with this one. It's more remote, there is a lot of driving and you won't be finding anywhere to grab a bite on the way. Both tours we did with Radventures were great. This is the one to choose if you want something a little bit different and off the beaten tourist path a smidge though.
We had a wonderful time. Our guide Simon was informative, friendly and especially helpful. Abraham lake, with the ice bubbles, is very special and a must to see. If you are up for it, the ice skating takes everything to the next level. A long day, but an experience not to be missed.
Perfect day to Peyto Lake, Lake Abraham, and Bow Lake. At Abraham Lake, saw bubbles - both frozen and evolving. Our guide, Simon, was great. Enjoyed chatting with him.
We had a fantastic time on the Radventures Icefields Parkway and Ice Bubbles of Abraham Lake Adventure. Tess was a true professional and guided our tour with her knowledge and expertise. The weather wasn’t favourable with a blizzard making visibility quite poor. Tess drove extremely well in the conditions and after asking if we were all happy to continue, made the call to journey to Abraham Lake first. What an awesome experience this was walking on the bubbles and seeing large slabs of ice rising out of the frozen lake. On our way back, the weather conditions had eased and we were able to enjoy the fabulous views overlooking Peyto Lake. The hike there and back was a tonne of fun too with some mischief making in the snow. I highly recommend this tour and thank you Tess for a fantastic day out (especially on your birthday)!!
Tyler hosted the Ice bubbles tour at Abraham Lake and I can’t recommend him enough. Incredibly knowledgeable, prepared, and kind. Highly recommend this tour!
We had a great day out exploring the Rockies mountain on this day trip with our guide Tess. The ice bubbles experience on frozen Lake Abraham was a blast and the kids had a lot of fun in the snow too!
Cameron was an excellent guide. He explained clearly the plan for the day and was flexible when we wanted to stop and take in a view. Walking poles provided and he gave people options. Very knowledgeable too. Good packed lunch provided. Small size group. And he was a very safe driver. THANKS
My daughter and I went on this tour with Emma as our guide. First of all, Emma was fantastic ensuring everyone was safe and being taken care of. We had very mixed group from an age and ability standpoint. Emma ran around to make sure no one was left behind, but she did not let those more nimble be neglected either. Also, she is an extremely sweet sociable person and we were extremely blessed to have her. Please note that it is a moderately strenuous tour. The descent from the Icefield climb is steep and some people were sliding down if not given a helping hand. The ice field was my daughter’s favorite spot visited. With the slightly overcast sky, she felt it otherworldly. We also really liked Mistaya Canyon which has a beautiful falls we had a small hike to. Other stops included Peyto Lake and Bow Lake (which was so beautiful surrounded by white capped mountains). Also on our excursion, we saw some big horn sheep at the ice fields and passed three bears.
Great trip, so much fun. Very chilled pace which is great. Lovely places to visit and fall about in snow!
Best ending to our Banff vacation, our tour guide Micheal Frymus was amazing and made the whole trip enjoyable. Had fun with my friends. We will miss Banff bae.
Just been on the most amazing trip today. Tess our guide was outstanding, so friendly and knowledgeable. Took great care of us and was so full of enthusiasm that it was infectious. The stops were just perfect, if you can walk 400m you will manage this trip and be able to enjoy it. A couple of gentle inclines but easily managed by a near 80 year old with arthritic knees and walking with poles. Great communication with them when I checked a couple of things out before we went. Absolute must if you are in Banff, a very unique trip and an elevation to your normal amazing lakes experience. And if you get "Tess the best" she will ensure you have a great day.
This was a fantastic tour. Mitch the guide was skilled, helpful and informative. Even though it is a long drive, Mitch was pointing out mountain peaks, explaining the movement of glaciers and generally a font of knowledge! The highlight for me was walking on Abraham Lake and learning about the ice bubbles (thermal gases), and hoary frost frozen in the thick ice. Afterwards my reading of Wikipedia unearthed the sad history of the formation of this artificial lake and the dislocation of the Stoney Nakoda First Nation tribe. While I pay tribute to the original First Nations tribes, the natural phenomena occurring at this Lake are intriguing. Other stops were made along the way there and return, with many photo opportunities of frozen lakes, mountains and glaciers. Thoroughly recommend.
Abraham lake, it’s unique beauty that can’t find in other place, worths the whole trip. This tour took us to four different lakes, they are all beautiful. We also spent time to explore. It was a wonderful experience. This trip exceeded our expectation.
Amazing experience with our tour guide Tess! Beautiful drive along the Pkwy with stops also at Peyto and Bow. We took so many pictures with the menthane bubbles. Highly recommend this experience.
