Awesome, the museum has so many automotive items that I was familiar with but hadn’t seen in many years. Train was nice and a respite from the walking we did. Great items in the gift shops. The blacksmith presentation was really nice.
This is an absolutely terrific place for all. Adults, kids and anyone that loves history, amusement parks, cars, trains, etc. will love this place. The Gasoline Alley museum is one of the finer automotive museums we've been to and there is a train, a steamboat, oil well, windmill and numerous other things to see and do. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the amusement park rides. You can easily spend the whole day here!
We had a great day at the Heritage Park - far exceeding our expectations. Parking was $13 for the day (pay at rather confusing machines). It was quite a long walk from there to the main part of the site but there was plenty to see en route. We started with a ride on the Paddle Steamer which was relaxing and enjoyable and then took the steam train around the site. We subsequently visited a selection of houses and other buildings which were fascinating - especially when the always-friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff told us about their history. We learned a huge amount about the settling of the province and establishment of farms by immigrants. The exhibitions of train carriages and cars were fascinating - in fact there was so much to see that we only covered half of what we wanted to visit in one day. There are plenty of good and reasonably priced places to eat and loads for children to do. This was the best Heritage site we have ever visited and was a wonderful day out. We look forward to returning to see more and strongly recommend it to anyone visiting Calgary.
The park is huge with a great assortment of things to do and see. We especially liked the car museum, ferry ride, antique trains and train ride.
We love heritage Park from the train to the horse wagon ride! The cookies from the bakery were so good we begged the recipe!
This was a wonderful experience. I loved learning about historical Canadian culture. (Visiting from Atlanta GA). Rode the train, watched the reenactment events, visited many of the buildings on the sight, talked to a lot of re-enactors, picnicked, and just had a great time.
The park has to have the friendliest staff in the world. Every contact I had was so inviting. The admission fee was reasonable for everything that was offered. I arrived later than I planned, so there were things I did get to do, even in the 4 hours I was there. Each area had its own theme, and the staff were dressed for the time and place they were located. As an international visitor an did not have a car. Getting to and returning from was challenging. This is my only criticism.
Outstanding historical venue, from the moment you enter until you leave you're immersed in the history that built Alberta. Villages from all eras, trained docents/actors and actual First Nation representatives take you back to historical events, answer questions, and provide a terrific opportunity for both young and not-so-young visitors to learn about the people and places of Alberta in a unique and !memorable way. My husband is disabled and uses a walker. There is a bus for transport with a terrific driver, the steam train has a special car with a lift for visitors with mobility issues, and Gasoline Alley has elevators to all levels of the automobile museum!
There is so much to do and see! The people running each house provide very interesting background info and stories. You do get a nice glimpse into life in the past. We loved trundling around the park on the train. Gasoline Alley is a wonderful addition you can easily spend 2+ hours inside. The vehicles are simply amazing and I love all the old gasoline pumps. There is so much to see that you really need multiple days to see everything. A must-see if you are in Calgary.
The Park is a joke! We've been to many parks/museums of this type all over the world, this is definitely the worst one. A parody. I have no idea why the locals are so proud of it, probably because they had never seen anything better. Even if it was a free admission I would still doubt if it's worth wasting my time.
The entire place feels like stepping back in time, with beautifully preserved buildings, friendly staff, and plenty of hands-on exhibits. I appreciated how relaxed the atmosphere was, even with families and tourists around. The views of the reservoir and the city skyline made the experience even better. It is one of those iconic Calgary spots that you can return to multiple times and always find something new to appreciate.
Only one small museum was open. We did not get any experience. My child was looking forward to a boat ride, train ride and other rides. All this was closed, the park itself was closed also. There was no value for money and we just wasted our time.
A great historical park with lots of activities. Love the theme and all food they serve here. We will be back in the future
Outstanding history of Calgary Museum and experience. Great value for money, and would advise anyone to go. Great for adults, kids, grandparents. Disabled friendly, lots to do, excellent staff. Cannot praise it more.
We needed to kill some time after Banff in Calgary before our flight left. My husband and I spent about 4 hours in Heritage Park, and really enjoyed iti! If you want to experience life 100 years ago or so, this was really fascinating! I loved the train ride, being able to see the inside of the old train cars, and especially Main Street that was set up like a town from the 1920s. Even authentic horse manure in the streets:). It was fun seeing the kids on the old carnival rides, we rode the big swing and ferris wheel. It is a big park and although they have train and horse and buggy rides around, it is a lot of walking. Good food choices and treats. The workers were knowledgeable about their craft.
Large park with many exhibits recalling the history of the Canadian West. including the indigenous encampment, fur trading industry, fort establishment, building of the cross-country railway, settlement, sternwheeler era, early pioneers and farming / ranching, A step back in time. Many exhibits had tour guides present to explain the artifacts and answer questions. Highly recommend it for the whole family.
Heritage Park is a pleasant venue to visit, as long as you are not using their parking facilities. We visited recently, and were presented a parking ticket for parking in their lot. As a tour operator, one lesson I learned long ago is that you NEVER ticket an out-of-town car when they are visiting! Perhaps a courtesy ticket woud have been a better choice. This is not condusive to encouraging future visits. As a tour operator, I will be recommending that my clients bypass Heritage Park, in favor of places that are more tourist friendly. And you should improve your signage at the lot to indicate that parking is not included in your pricey entrance fee.
It was a great experience! Total immersion in the historical period, reinactment actors performed really well. Lots to see and lots of things for the kids. My 7-year old daughter was excited! I highly recommend it!
After spending almost a week in Banff National Park, we had just one day to spend in Calgary, and I’m so very glad that we decided to go to Heritage Park for most of it. Being a train lover, I really enjoyed the train ride with the steam locomotive. One tip - while I don’t know if it is always this way, be aware that the train does not stop at every station on a trip around the park. But that wasn’t a problem because we had a nice rest on one of the many benches by the station. (We’re in our active 70’s, but pacing ourselves really helps.) My wife and her twin sister also really enjoyed the carousel and Ferris wheel, and the other “old-time” amusement park rides looked enjoyable as well. We had a wonderful lunch at the Wainwright Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed going through the various houses and other buildings throughout the grounds. We didn’t have time to go to the Gasoline Alley museum or ride the trolley at the front of the park, but who knows, maybe we’ll be in Calgary again some time!
Charming village setting of historical interest. The Gasoline Alley Museum had some beautifully restored automobiles and more old gas pumps than you could ask for. Plus, an operating steam locomotive.
Still a pretty good place to visit. However, it is seeing signs of a deteriation. Visited many times over the last 3 years. On any given day there seem to be several of the historical buildings/exhibits that are not open - even during the peak summer months. Not enough staff on the museum side? Also, it is a relatively rare day when the streetcar, steam train, and paddle wheeler are ALL running. The paddle wheeler has not been operating for a long time this year (since early July 2025 according to their wdbsite) and heard that there were days when all 3 were not operating! This last weekend, even the premiere food service building in the historical town square (Wainwright Hotel) was closed because of some sort of maintenance problem. Hope they can turn it around but the trend since COVID has been very concerning.
Visited this with my brother and was surprised with the variety of history offered. It was good to walk around seeing different properties etc. disappointed that the Steamer was not sailing and whilst going around a lot of the exhibits were closed so didn’t feel great value for money. Train was good, well staffed. Most staff were friendly and knowledgeable of their subject. Good ice cream job. Worth a visit
We went on a fairly rainy day so the place was relatively quiet. The staff were friendly and accommodating. There was lots to see and do there - our kids loved the mini midway.
My wife and I visited Heritage Park when we were staying in Calgary. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when I discovered Gasoline Alley!!! Wow, the quality of all the displays is amazing, and the majority were donated by one man!! The village is really interesting as well, even though we are from the UK and used to really old buildings, it was fun to see all the different wooden structures that were over 100 years old and to hear their stories - amazing when you realise some were still lived and worked in up to the late 1970s!! All staff encountered were friendly and knowledgeable. Well worth a visit and if,like me, you're a petrol head, you can easily spend a day here.
This is a strange combination of historic village, animal farm, train and boat rides, amusement park, and transportation museum. It is quite large, large enough that a full size train goes around the park with four station stops. Because all the different parts run together, you have to buy admission for the entire park, which costs $27 (US). Because there is so much to do, the price isn't bad, but if you don't have the time or inclination (it was in the mid-80s when we went, too hot to walk far), then it's too expensive. We just wanted to see the Gasoline Alley Museum but had to pay the same as everyone else. The museum had a good antique car collection, and an excellent antique truck collection, mainly delivery and gasoline trucks. It also had a great collection of antique gasoline pumps in mint condition. In fact, they were so clean they looked like reproductions. As long as we were there, we took the train ride. It's a quarter mile walk to the nearest station. The train runs every few minutes and has 19th century passenger cars and wood benches, so not comfortable but it's only a 5 minute ride or so. The boat on the river wasn't running, no explanation. The amusement rides are mainly for children. In fact, the entire park is geared towards families with young children.
We were really excited to see the gasoline alley museum. Unfortunately when we got here, the entrance was $40 per person because it included the park. We had no interest in going into the park just the museum, but you can’t buy tickets for just the museum. So we had lunch at Selkirk‘s, which is good and then went home. Very disappointed.
Great place for kids to learn about wildlife however on the downside the animals looked bored to me.
Heritage Park is a great experience to have in Calgary. They have rides, boat tours, a petting zoo, and a train that goes around the whole entire park. All the stuff listed above is free with your ticket into the park. Heritage Park also includes a long list of historical things to learn about. This is a good place to go with a large group. This place is also quite popular with school’s going quite often. Overall, the experience here was great and I would definitely suggest to go to any people coming to Calgary.
We have been loyal Heritage Park visitors and annual membership holders for 4 years now. We love the park. So, why the 1 star? TheHeritage Park advertising proudly presents discounted annual membership pricing for the 60th anniversary, but it does not include parking, unlike all the previous years! So, needless to say, I am stuck with $40 parking tickets now and I am not happy.
We landed in Calgary and were going to drive straight to Banff but at the last minute decided to spend several hours here and we are glad we did. First of all, it is on a beautiful piece of land next to a gorgeous reservoir. It's also very educational depending on how much attention you want to pay to that aspect. There are tons of things for kids to enjoy from the different modes of transportation (train, wagon, tractor, etc) to the old time amusement park. And all of that is included with the entrance price which I appreciate as I hate being nickeled and dimed once I'm already in. To really experience everything in the park you would have to come back on multiple days because it is so large.
I’m extremely disappointed and frustrated with Heritage Park’s misleading and unfair handling of memberships. We purchased the yearly pass, expecting it to provide what was promised: unlimited access throughout the season. On Saturday, May 10, we made the 40-minute drive (with a toddler!) excited to finally enjoy the park after a long winter. We even skipped our child’s dance class to make the visit special. Instead, we were met with confusion and frustration. To our shock, we saw more than a dozen other families with kids walking away from the entrance — all turned back because, despite being members, we had to pay full admission due to an event that day. This was never communicated via email, even though we are fully subscribed to their updates. No warning. No courtesy notice. Just a surprise charge at the gate. Apparently, the management was counting on the fact that people, having already arrived, would feel forced to pay the full admission price. So, our day was ruined. To make matters worse, the cashier told us this would also happen on multiple dates in June. So what exactly are we paying for with this membership? Heritage Park’s management clearly believes it's acceptable to change the terms whenever it suits them — leaving paying members completely in the dark. We felt disrespected and outright cheated.
I went to the Heritage Park spring Ghost tour, it was a great experience. Adam was our tour guide and was truly awesome at his job. He stayed in character, talked loud and clearly and was entertaining and funny. The park has plenty of history and is a nice walk. The tour took 2.5 hours, and we got to see the inside of a couple buildings as well go to an attic of one building that is not typically open the public. It is not a truly scary event if that is what you are looking for but lots of great history and stories about ghost encounters in the park. Overall would recommend, and if you can go with Adam it will be a truly fun experience.
The exhibits were amazing. We took so many photos. The venue was meticuliously maintained and all staff were friendly and knowledgable. John was a treasure trove of imformation and knew so much about all the vehicles on site. We would highly recommend.
I bought tickets to the Heritage Park Roadshow on Sunday, April 20, 2025 based on the fact that they advertised vintage side car rides and a show & shine. I went down and found out that BOTH events were NOT going on, despite being advertised! I am beyond disappointed! I will NOT be attending this event ever again! A true disappointment! Do not advertise things if they are NOT going to be happening! I've enclosed a photo of the Heritage Park website advertisement, showing that the vintage side car rides were supposed to be going on all weekend, including Apr. 20.
the heritage park is worth the visit which invluded the free train ride from the parking lot .. the vintage cars was my highlight of the visit hoing to callgary this a must visit. no regets here
The food selection was incredibly bad. The only place to get a kid friendly lunch was the hotel and it was busy. The Cafe was also busy and in the past they served sandwiches and chili. This year they served some kind of Thai or something similar. Unfortunately customers did not know this until standing in line for a minimum 20min. The only way to see the menu was to stand in line as the menu was at the till at waist height. Many angry and disappointed customers walked out after waiting in line for nothing. This was brought up with the manager at heritage park that day. She was rude and dismissive. A customer mentioned that she was diabetic and needed to eat. After standing in line for over 20 min to find out it was a type of food not appropriate for a "family friendly" park and there were no other option other than a gingerbread man. The manager suggested to bring your own food. Seriously??For $19.99 admission to walk around a virtually closed park and ultimately a glorified christmas market we expected more from Heritage Park. It definitely was not a great Christmas experience. Nothing really for family's to do unless one pre purchased a wagon ride or stood in line for 1.5 hr for a wagon ride and a market, no edible food and an ignorant rude manager. Seen no Carolers or any music. It was an expensive boring disappointing day only made worse by the "manager". I should have saved my money and went to the zoo lights. At least you can get a kid friendly meal there and not need to bring outside food. Do better heritage park.
This is my favourite attraction in Calgary and has been for twenty years. I never get tired of going there. There’s so much history to learn and I never can in one day. The people that work there are all so passionate. It’s infectious.
We went to Ghouls Night Out on October 24, 2025. Before the pandemic we had done many years of the Halloween park night. This year was a disappointment. Upon entering the park there was a man with a microphone sitting near the old hearse. He was weird with his comments and not in a Halloween way. It was not an enjoyable way to enter or leave the event. The volunteers giving directions and information were great. Our favorite moment was when a gentleman walked down the middle of the street calling 'make way for the dead, make way for the dead. And then a horse and carriage hearse followed, The corpse in the coffin made his presence known. Unfortunately the park was too dark even for a Halloween event. It was so dark, we couldn't see the other guests costumes unless we were right next to them. And it was hard to view the decorations and volunteers who where dressed in Halloween costumes along the pathways as lighting was so poor. Again after attending many previous years, we found this year to have been too dark to enjoy the event.
My girlfriend @ I did the Ghost Walk Tour on Oct 17th @ 7:30 with Levi. Levi did an awesome job telling Ghost stories and history of many of the buildings in the park. It was obvious Levi loves his job by his enthusiasm and humor. It was a neat experience walking through the park at night. Thank you for providing flashlights that we got to keep.
Well worth a visit, historical recreations and genuine relocated buildings, plus funfairs and rides on steam train and paddle steamer. The food service was quite poor - it was hard to get in anywhere in September and they had run out of basics. Plus, in the ice cream shop, an elderly lady slipped and fell hard on a floor spillage in the ice cream place. To my amazement the staff not only watched and ignored this, they didn't even clear the spill. I moved the queue cone onto the spill... Personally, I'd be suing them if I were her.
Makes a visit to the park quick with fast access. Just had to go to the admissions person who verifies your passes and your off. Excellent to visit in a Fall setting .
Hadn’t been to heritage park for about 12 years. Really enjoyed the newer energy and coal mining exhibits. View from there of the reservoir and mountains was beautiful. Fairly new laundry building on Main Street was really well done and interpreter in the laundry was excellent. Interpreter in the woodworking shop was also excellent. Also really enjoyed building with historic road and construction equipment. And the train buildin with restored engines and passenger cars. Baked goods from bakery are as good as ever
So much to do, even for seniors. We rode the train, paddleboat, went to the amusement park and rode the Ferris wheel and merry-go-round, and the horse drawn wagon, and toured the antique railway cars. Capped it off with a delicious dinner at the signature restaurant. September was the perfect time to visit - glorious weather and small crowds. Kids were having a blast, and there was even a wedding on the grounds that day.
The park was in a beautiful location and the historical re-enactments were educational. We really enjoyed the boat ride as well!
Heritage Park in Calgary is a fantastic destination for a family outing. The park stands out for its welcoming policy on food and drinks, allowing visitors to bring their own and enjoy a picnic-like atmosphere—a rare perk that saves a lot on expenses compared to other parks where you can easily spend over $100 just on meals. Though tickets are on the pricier side at $36 for adults and $26 for kids, the experience is worth every penny. The park is meticulously managed, from parking to rides and everything in between. It’s incredibly clean, with free water fountains and spotless washrooms, ensuring a comfortable visit. Highly recommended for a day of fun and relaxation!
I was amaze by the collection of vintage cars and trucks housed in one roof! We enjoyed both riding in the train and also Moyie (the boat). I took several photo of different old structures in the village- it was fun! The park personnel have dressed in nice costumes were very entertaining. The food in main dining hall was not as good as expected although the service is great.
What a great place, from beaver hunter forts to masonic lodges this has a lot to do. Where else can you get a trip on a steam train and then on a paddle steamer. These places are invaluable for saving a country’s historical buildings. All the actors are great to talk to and knowledgable. Some great shops and stalls to also see and a great sweet shop!
Really well-run facility... don't know if "park" does this place justice. We recently spent a chill Sunday afternoon here and had such a pleasant experience. There's something for everyone - history, scenery, animals, reenactments, rides, yummy snacks and unique shopping opportunities. I would highly recommend it for anybody staying in Calgary.
We enjoyed visiting and experiencing Heritage Park on our visit to Calgary. Seeing the historic buildings provided an insight to the history of Alberta. The historians located in each building were very friendly as well as knowledgeable.
