Canmore: Stargazing And Nature By Nightfall Walking Tour - 2hr

Our Canmore event was canceled due to flood damage and maintenance so they contacted us to join the Banff group. There were 40 of us split into two groups. Our guide was Ella. She provided us with very knowledgeable star information. We found constellations, Venus, Polaris, the dippers, the Milky Way and much more. The total walk was about 5k and we were on a wide paved path or boardwalks most of the time. She was very personable and told several stories from the indigenous people as well as mythology. While walking it was sometimes difficult to hear but most of her talk was at selected stop points along the way. We were delighted she had studied the stars in order to give us the best experience. Be sure you have bug spray!!

Knowledgeable, calm entertaining good local guide, Jacob. His presentation, choice of venue, pace and terrain, stories were all tailored for a mix of Canadians and tourists in group. We were lucky in sharing the trip with excellent people who shared amazing photos of milky way, northern lights etc.

It was a really great experience. We really enjoyed it. Even though it was a bit cloudy in the beginning we saw a lot of stars. Our guide was really nice and could tell us a lot of interesting things about the nature, wildlife and different stars constellations. He even gave us some great recommendations for the next destination of our roadtrip. We would totally book this tour again.

Exploring the night sky in bear country could’ve been intimidating, but Euen’s calm presence, extensive knowledge, and clear passion for what he does made us feel completely safe and at ease. He shared fascinating facts about the stars, constellations, and the surrounding wildlife, making the whole night both educational and magical. His warmth and professionalism truly elevated the tour. Jacob was an incredible guide, giving us the true highlight of our week in Banff and Lake Louise. Great stories, great pictures and a true Canadian adventure. If you’re spending an evening in Banff, this is an absolute must. You’re truly out in nature, and you’ll remember it forever!

Fantastic tour, more than we could have imagined. The guide did have some very awkward guests that he dealt with very professionally so as to not affect any other guests. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't find a gentle walk and incredible views with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide.

We really enjoyed our evening “star” gazing despite it being cloudy. It was interesting walking with Jacob and listening to his wisdom of his native Banff. Sadly I wish we could have done more hikes with him, however, it certainly will be on our list when we return, because we really would like to return to this beautiful area. It was nice getting away from the crowds on this hike as even late in the season, there were plenty of crowds. Thanks Jacob, we’ll be back.

This experience was made great by our guide: Jacob! He showed us how to take photos of the stars using our iPhones! Super cool, see our attached photos. Jacob is packed with knowledge of both the area of the hike, it’s history and has a pretty decent understanding of astrology. He has a delightful sense of humor and honestly made the experience very light-hearted and enjoyable. Keep in mind, nothing is guaranteed due to weather conditions and time of year, but something worth checking out to enjoy the beauty that Alberta has to offer.

Great knowledge and humour from Jacob. Loved the photo opportunities at dusk. It had been a cloudy day and we thought this was going to be a total waste of money. Couldn’t be further from the truth. Loved all the stars. Would defo do again.

This is definitely a must-do whether you’re in Banff or Canmore! We had Alpine Jake as our guide and he alone is reason enough to take part in this experience! He is incredibly knowledgeable of the area, and makes you feel incredibly safe as you trek through the dark woods. Be prepared for some scary folk tales that will get the hair on the back of your neck standing, but also for some incredible views & pictures! Definitely would recommend for all ages & experience levels, and we’ll definitely book with Jacob again if we find ourselves in the area!

Our tour with Jacob was unbelievable! He is a great experienced guide and very knowledgeable. We learned a lot about Banff National Park and had lots of laughs along the way. We enjoyed a surprise treat and stargazing looking across the Bow River. We would definitely book another tour with Canmore Trails and Tales the next time we're in the area. This was the last of 4 tours we booked with this company. We met our guide outside of Banff near Lake Minnewanka. We walked to and around the lake for nice views of the night sky with no light pollution. I imagine this would be a perfect spot when the northern lights are out. Jacob, our guide, was funny and very knowledgeable about the area. The road to the lake is in a wildlife preserve and Jacob gave us a night safari on the drive out spotting a very cute white fox and deer. Would not hesitate using this company again.

The guide was amazing and knowledgeable. Scenery was breathtaking. Dress warm as the wind can be a bit cold.

We took this tour on December 1, with Jacob. He is a great guide full of amazing information. We learned a lot about the area and had fun hiking and laughing along the way. We enjoyed a surprise treat while we looked out over the town of Canmore and surrounding area, from the highest point of the tour. Our family would definitely book another adventure or two with Trails and Tales the next time we're in the area. We definitely recommend them.

Jacob was a great guide and very knowledgeable. We did have some chatty little kids with us who were very cute so we really didn't mind not catching view of any late night animal activity. It was our first night hike and we really enjoyed it. Just the right length.

We had a great night tour with the guide Jacob. Beautiful view of the city at night and of the sky. Nice to get out of our confort zone to walk at night. Felt secure and have a lot of fun. Will recommend it

My boyfriend and I were the only ones on the tour for the night and we had a blast with Jacob! Saw some beautiful mountain and river views, as well as a couple of elk! He was very knowledgeable and we had great conversations about the trail, wildlife, and life in general. Jacob made us feel safe even when it got extremely dark, telling us what to look out for and safety tips for hiking in the mountains. We definitely recommend this tour to everyone and hope that we can tour with Jacob again in the winter for some star gazing!

It's my first time doing a night-ish tour and it's great! Our tour guide Jacob was knowledgeable and a super fun guy. He accomodated our last minute request of bringing a dog, so a safer detour was in place. The adventure would be a lot scarier and closer interactions with the wild life. We saw an elk on the way, a good thing our dog is trained but don't take chances with wildlife. I would recommend Jacob any time as the way he approach the tour was fun, full of trivia and he brought awareness and importance to protect nature and educate people in respecting it as well. I would recommend this tour for friends who want a sense of danger. Lol I'll be trying this tour again on Nov/Dec to experience the Northern lights view.

It was such an amazing night. We were so lucky to have a private tour by Jacob. He was amazingly knowledgeable, understanding and funny. I would recommend anyone who loves to watch the stars, walk in nature and get lost in the moment where you can forget your daily challenges. It was one of the most beautiful and breathtaking experiences we have ever experienced.

What an amazing night and tour! Jacob is a knowledgeable and fun guide - we had so many laughs! Once you leave the town lights behind you, WOW what an amazing night sky which included Mars, an almost full moon and the Big Dipper. Would highly recommend this tour if you love looking at the stars. Ask for Jacob :)

We took the "Nature by Nightfall" tour on a beautiful late September night. Jacob is an energetic and friendly tour guide. We had a lot of fun, learnt a lot about the area and felt very safe with him walking through unknown forest in the dark. We set up the telescope near the riverbed and had fantastic views of the moon and stars. Jacob was patient and encouraged us to find our own stars in the night sky. We took some wonderful night time photos and had a brilliant evening. Highly recommended.
