My daughter and I booked this dogsledding adventure over spring break, and we had such a great time. We ended up being the only two on the tour, which made the experience feel even more personal and special. The team was very accommodating, and our guide, Mike was fantastic. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the dogs, the Iditarod, and dog sledding in general. He shared so much interesting information throughout the trip and was also kind, polite, and easy to talk with. You could tell he really cared about the dogs and the experience he was providing. The tour lasted about two - two and a half hours, which felt like the perfect amount of time. It was a memorable experience for both of us, and we would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a fun and unique adventure!

Itinerary
Get ready to not only meet the dogs but also ride on a sled for a truly authentic experience, which you can do during the day or at night! You’ll learn about the tradition and sport of dogsledding, meet some fantastic dogs and explore the wilderness with them. Take an enchanting 1 hour dog sled ride through the woods and experience a bond between humans and dogs that is thousands of years old. Feel the dogs’ excitement as you pull up to the kennel and are greeted by the team. After an introduction to the dogs and instructions about riding on the sled, you and your guide will be off on a scenic 6.5 mile sled ride together. If the conditions are right, you’ll have a front row seat to some of the best Denali views in the area! Your guide will stop throughout the ride for photos, and to let you switch positions between standing and sitting on the sled. After the ride, you can take time to pet the dogs and give them lots of love. Average tour time is approximately 2 hours total. Time on the sled is around 1 hour.

Had an excellent time with our son and his family on this dog sled tour. We had 8 dogs per sled with one of us standing in back, the guide standing in front of that person, and one sitting in the very front.
Rhone and Joshua were the best! They were extremely social and knowledgeable. They suggested we take photos and took our family photo without being asked. They were very kind to our 5-year daughter and engaged with her. The dogs were very friendly. Would definitely recommend this family owned business!
My family and I had an incredible time with the team and the dogs. It was definitely the favorite part of our Alaska trip. They provide additional layers, gloves, boots, hand/feet warmers to ensure you are comfortable and warm. The route and scenery was absolutely beautiful. The dogs were fun to interact with. Each one had their own personality.
Alyssa was a fabulous tour guide/musher! She was very knowledgeable and personable and we had a great time meeting her and the dogs! I highly recommend taking a tour with Susitna and I'm so glad we picked this company.
What a magical experience dog sledding with Susitna Dog Sled Adventures! We had the best time getting to know the Iditarod racing dogs and sledding through the snowy trails! Learned so much from Alyssa. She was so sweet and accommodating. Thanks for having us and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Booked a tour for the new year with Rohn and his crew and had a great time despite it being about 8 below zero. They had a warming cabin on the property and allowed us to borrow a better set of boots, parka and gloves which were necessary. We were warm enough to enjoy the ride on their training course. The dogs were awesome and we learned a lot about the Iditarod race from our guide. We were able to switch up who rode on the front and back about mid way. Overall, I would recommend doing this for anyone who wants to experience dog sledding.
We had such a great experience with Susitna Sled Dog Adventures! This was a bucket list item for our family and Christmas present for our boys and it did not disappoint. Rohn and his team were great and we all learned so much from our mushers. All of the dogs were gentle and loved attention from the kids. My 10 year old can’t stop talking about his experience to anyone who will listen. Beautiful views! We will all be watching and cheering for RohnToNome this year!
What an amazing experience! The owners are wonderful and full of awesome information. They are warm and gracious hosts and share their beautiful slice of heaven with passion and joy. Thank you so much! Beautiful!
This was the highlight of our vacation! Rohn was terrific. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. The hot cocoa and spiced cider after the trip were a nice surprise. It was obvious how much Rohn and his wife care for their dogs. I would recommend Susitna Sled Dog Adventures most highly!
Great experience, friendly owners and mushers, dogs happy and wanting to run. Everybody welcoming, the dogs too :) We chat a lot and got interesting infos. Trail was nice, a bit slushy and watery at times as April was warmer then usual. Communication through emails was swift and helpful. Loved the whole experience!
My niece and I did a winter sled tour Iditarod weekend and had a wonderful time. Our guide was excellent and full of knowledge and he and the owners are passionate about the dogs. We had plenty of time to meet every dog in the kennel (even the puppies!) and then the tour itself was just the right length and positively gorgeous. I've lived in Alaska for years and have never gone dog sledding- now I understand the addiction. Highly recommend booking your tour with this kennel!
My friend talked me into the night dog sledding experience. And im so glad she did. If you want breathtaking views, this isn't it. If you want to feel what it is like for most sled teams and what they really do (which is often night work), this was so cool. Now, we had a great night. It was I. The mid-20s were so not horribly cold, and the moon was out lighting up the snow and trees. When you pull up, the place looks a little rough, but the people and the dogs are super friendly. I've been around working dogs. These dogs were amazing, just wanting so many pets and so happy to be selected to be on the team (they use a rotation, which is awesome). They have around 60 dogs. Now, for those of you who don't know. They are tied out with their own little house. These dogs love the cold, and sledding is what they love to do. If it bothers you seeing a bunch of dogs tied out individually with a dog house, stay home. These dogs are very well cared for mad it is obvious by their demeanor and how happy they all were. The owner and the other musher, Nathan, were wonderful, happy to explain or answer any questions. The experience on the trail was a little over an hour. Bundle up. They also have some spare outer gear if you need another layer. One person rides o. The back the other sits in the sled. Halfway through, you switch if you want. If in Alaska I highly recommend it. The trails were amazing. We even passed another munching team out for a run, and it was amazing to see how the dogs work. Worth every penny for this girl.
My wife, my mother-in-law, and I all went dog sledding with this company. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had while traveling anywhere! Our musher/guide, Nathan, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about his work. You can tell that the kennel truly cares about their dogs, and the experience is better because of it. We had plenty of time to meet and greet with the dogs and never felt rushed to do anything. They even had warm gear like boots, coats, and gloves for us to borrow in case we needed anything additional! We got to pet the dogs while Nathan set everything up. Two of us sat while one of us stood, and Nathan was in control from the back speaking commands for the dogs while telling us all we wanted to know about mushing. The trail was absolutely beautiful and it was even snowing! It was a pretty perfect experience and we all highly recommend this company.
We had a spectacular time sledding with Rohn and his dog team. The location is incredible, so serene and peaceful. Views of the mountains were so beautiful. Rohn was a great guide, we were in good hands and he answered all our many questions! Alyssa was so helpful and even rescheduled us when needed. The ride was exhilarating and they are a top knotch business. The fact that it is a family business - 2nd generation Iditarod is great . The dogs are so sweet and energetic too, well cared for and happy - you could tell they were thrilled to be out running. This was one of my favorite activities in Alaska! Do yourself a favor and book with them - it’s well worth it.
Wow! Didn’t even know this was a true bucket list item, but YES! It is! Lovely family, warm, helpful, and THE DOGS! What a treat! Wear warm layers and be ready for awe inspiring adventure. THANK YOU!!
This was a 60th birthday to myself and it was money well spent. The dogs LOVE to run and were friendly. The ride was sooo much fun! The hour long ride was spectacular and since we had a clear day I got to see excellent views of Denali along the way. The not quite 2 hour trip from Anchorage was well worth it. Do yourself a favor and book with the Susitna Sled Dog Adventures! It was easy to book via their website. They were reasonably priced and the only outfit that would take a solo rider and not charge for two.
We had an amazing time with Susitna sled dog adventures! Rohn and Alyssa were amazing and so welcoming from the moment we arrived till when we sadly had to leave. This was a huge highlight during our time in Alaska and I highly recommend you book a tour with them. Thanks again for the amazing time.
We had such a great day at Susitna Kennels. Alyssa and Rohn were laid back and friendly and the dogs were wonderful. We got to spend a long time with the dogs which was very different from another dog sled experience I had in Fairbanks. All around great day and would love to sponsor a dog in the future.
where should i start from, Alyssa and Rohn are great people. they have alot of passion for what they are doing. their dogs are so energetic and the good thing is that they offer tours late thru the season because they are located up north from Anchorage and the snow really melts slower there. Def recommend them if you want to have fun with your family.
We loved the ride! Alyssa, Rhon and their dogs make a great team. We learned a lot. The ride is picturesque. Dress warmly, and then add another layer or two!
My gal and I had an unforgettable time with Rohn, Alyssa, and their amazing dog team. Their knowledge and love for the dogs, mushing, and Alaska are contagious. The experience was such a great memory that we'll need to book next season and make it a tradition.
