Joan was an excellent and knowledgeable tour guide. I so enjoyed the wildlife tour. The glaciers were an experience as well

Itinerary
Alaska Wildlife Conservation center is Southcentral Alaska's # 1 visitor attraction. The Wildlife Conservation Center is a non profit sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska's wildlife through conservation, research, education and quality animal care. Visitors can expect to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region and having the opportunity to observe a diverse array of native wildlife up close, including bears, wolves, moose, wolves and eagles, among others, in a spacious 200 acre carefully designed habitats that mimic their natural environment Its an unforgettable experience that fosters a deeper appreciation for Alaska's wildlife.
Brief stop in Portage Valley, where you will see several hanging Glaciers which once extended the entire length of the 14 mile valley. Portage glacier has receded back approximately 2 1/2 miles and has left behind a dead lake! The glacial remnants seen today are Explorer, Middle, Byron, Burns, and Shakespeare glaciers. While still massive in size, these glaciers stand as smaller reminders of the immense ice sheets that once covered this landscape. Next will be a walk through the rainforest, afterwards enjoy your ride back to Chugach State Park and marvel at the stunning views of Turnagain Arm.
At Beluga Point, visitors can enjoy breath taking views of Turnagan Arm with its sweeping coastal scenery, and rugged cliffs, often in spring and summer you can see glimpses of beluga whales swimming in the waters. Turnagan Arm itself, offers possible opportunities for wildlife viewing, including Beluga whales, Dall sheep, Bald Eagles and sometimes bears, as well as scenic vistas of the Chugach Mountains and the unique phenomenon of bore tides.
Scenic drive to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to and back to Anchorage is 2 hours and 30 minutes. Total round trip.

Joan was full of knowledge about the area and the wildlife conservation center. We booked this last minute and highly recommend this for a nice outing and to see wildlife.
Our guide Dan was fantastic. Went above and beyond
The guide was wonderful very knowledge of the area and she had a great personality.
Truly enjoyed the tour! And saw belugas at the Beluga point! Very organized and very punctual guide Kris made it a day to remember! Even though it was raining, it was still very beautiful!
Great tour! Really knowledgeable and fun. We Saw a lot of animals and learned a lot. The van was clean and had snacks and water.
Guide was great and the conservation area was very good. Hazy weather limited the visibility of the glaciers.
The tour was exactly as advertised. Our guide has made Anchorage a home for many years. He is a professional tour guide with many stories, jokes and songs.
Great experience!! Saw a little of everything! Well worth the money!!!
It was wonderful! The scenery was breathtaking, the weather was perfect and our guide/driver was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Great family experience that all ages can enjoy. Beautiful scenery and our guide, Willow, did a wonderful job and is very knowledgeable about the area.
The driver was great in terms of personality and information, however, we went off itinerary for a drop off in Whittier which we had to go to the next day anyway so didn't need to see. I think this was combining two different aervices. We wanted more time walking around the animal conservation center. Several others agreed this wasn't fair that we spent all that time going to Whittier when we signed up to see other things. We could have used that time walking the sanctuary. This is not the only tour where we lost time due to other's agenda and we can't give 5 stars anymore when this is the case. Had we had been able to walk around more, we would have.
It was a great tour. We were able to see many animals and our guide Dan was Knowledgeable and accomadating.
It was a great experience. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly! We saw beautiful sights along the way. We didn’t get to see any wildlife outside of the Conservatory, but it was a nice stop. Also we could have had just a little while longer at each destination on the tour, maybe even 10 minutes. Stopping by a waterfall would have been nice too. We drove by briefly… But overall great trip!
You cannot miss going to this wildlife conservation. Wonderful wildlife in a near-perfect location
Driver/guide forgot his headphone/mic so rear passengers could not hear him. As a driver he tailgated other vehicles. He was very knowledgeable and took us to great locations. Was very informative.
I had the best experience with white Raven tours. The tour guide was awesome. It was a great day and lots to do. We made fourstops. It was just an amazing day. I would definitely do it again.
Even in inclement weather our guide/driver Dan was fabulous and quite informative. Even saw a large Bull Moose coming out of wild forest along roadway from Dead Lake area
We enjoyed the wildlife sanctuary and the walk through the rainforest. The weather was uncooperative so we weren't able to see the glaciers . Good way to spend some extra time before flying home
Dan was an experienced tour guide. He was full of knowledge. I felt safe with him as the roads looked hard to navigate with the wind. He was kind to my kids and took us to see everything the tour had to offer.
Our excursion was a lot of fun Dan with White Raven was awesome, you have heard the saying when you’re delt lemons in life make lemonade. That’s exactly what Dan did made the experience great with the heavy rain we were experiencing we saw lots of bears , a wild moose on the roadside. He didn’t want us to be disappointed bc of the weather and added a little bonus of stopping at the chocolate shop.
This was an awesome experience and I loved how upbeat snd knowledgeable our guide was!
We throughly enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide, Joan did a wonderful job and is very knowledgeable with Anchorage and the surrounding areas. This is a great way to seeing several different places.
I had an incredible time on the tour with white raven tours! I was traveling solo, so I appreciated the small group atmosphere so I could get to know some of the other guests. Joan was absolutely amazing! She shared so much fascinating information with us about the local area, Alaskan history and culture, the wildlife, and more! She was kind and was able to answer all our questions. I would highly recommend this tour!
It was a great experience. We were able to see a hanging glacier and the animals at the wildlife center. Our guide Dan was great, he took photos of us at each stop and was very knowledgeable.
We had a great time with a very knowledgeable and kind tour guide name Dan. We loved his stories and he can tell you all the best eating spots.
It’s a nice drive to the wild life conservation center and our guide Joan is very knowledgeable about the area and all the sights .
Joan our driver was amazing. Having lived in Alaska her entire life she was a wealth of information. Of course seeing the animals was a highlight. Being that close to bears was so amazing. Highly recommend.
Had a lovely time with the 830am tour, our guide was super great and made our time in Alaska that much more special.
We had a great time and a great guide. The wildlife preserve was a great experience a decent amount of animals and large habitats for them to live out their life. These were all rescues that wouldn’t make it in the wild on their own because of injury or other circumstances. On the way back, a guide stopped at a small pond with turquoise water, and while we were there, a large moose came right out of the bushes and walked across the whole area in the water in front of us.
A GREAT tour of Anchorage and the wildlife conservation. Kris was the BEST guide. We travelled with our young child and it was enjoyable for all.
Great views and the wildlife center was awesome!
It was fun and informative for Alaskan history. The wildlife center was probably our favorite, but the glacier was nice also.
The tour is amazing, but if the tour is full, it is very tight inside the van. I was seated in the very back with 4 thin adults and we didn't fully fit. Other than that, the tour is amazing the guide is incredible! He had great knowledge and was super entertaining.
Amazing experience with beautiful vistas! If you want to get close to nature in a safe manner, I highly recommend the wildlife conservation center. Our tour guide Kim was very knowledgeable and accommodating to everyone in our tour. I also enjoyed the bonus stop to Whittier. Highly recommend this experience!
If you don’t have a car to visit around, it’s a way to visit the conservation center but not a lot of glacier to see. The conservation center is nice.
It was a great experience. Would like to give special thank you to Dan from the pick up shuttle, he was wonderful!
This tour was disappointing, We were crammed into the back row of a van. There were numerous stops and it was difficult to get in and out. We are not large people - children would be ok in the back row, but that's it. Our guide shared too much information about himself and his family and not enough about what we were seeing. He shared some depressing stories about friends of his being killed by bears and a family who got attacked (let the good times roll). At the Center he dropped us off and said to meet back at the gift shop - no information about the animals from him or anyone else. We saw bears playing in water which was fun. The rest of the animals were in dirt enclosures and listless (it was a warm day). The Portage Valley Glacier area was beautiful but you can visit that on your own - as you can the Conservation Center. Skip this tour or make sure you get one of the guides mentioned by name in the positive reviews.
This was a great way to see the surrounding Anchorage area. Tim did a great job narrating our tour and was totally flexible in our itinerary. We stopped to see moose by the side of the road, enjoyed a leisurely visit at the Wildlife Sanctuary where he drove us to key exhibits and ensured we saw the highlights. Lovely walk in Portage with awesome glacier views finishing up with a delicious lunch in Girdwood. Hit Beluga point on the way back due to crowds and fog in the morning- and then we got to see dall sheep on the mountain. Wonderful way to spend our last day in Anchorage- the city is much nicer out of downtown.
Our guide Kris made our excursion. We stopped at a couple extra stops on our way to the Portage Glacier. Amazing photo stops. We also had a great group of 12 total. Great 4 1/2 hours in Anchorage
Really enjoyed this trip. The guide was fantastic and the trip was very well organised. We say bears playing in the water, moose and viewed some amazing sights around anchorage.
Kim was a great guide and very informative. She helped accommodate my mom's walker. The animals were all fun to see, especially the bears and baby bison.
Great way to learn about Anchorage, the surrounding area, and the wildlife there. Our guide was very knowledgeable and fun. We loved the tour.
The nice lady that was our guide was very friendly, full of stories and informative antidotes. The tour was thorough and gave more stops and opportunities than I expected. I could have gone longer but feel as if my family got everything we expected and more! A lovely way to learn more about our 49th State… Thank You!
Good to get an entrance level look at animals
This was a great tour and a fun experience! Dan was a fantastic and knowledgeable tour guide. The weather for the tour was pretty lousy with lots of rain and wind, but Dan had some alternative places we could visit to stay warm and dry. The Wildlife Conservation Center was excellent as well. Overall, it was a great time for an excellent value.
Had a great time. Our tour guide, Kris was wonderful and full of information. We took the morning tour which was nice as it left the afternoon to continue exploring if we wanted. Saw a lot of animals at the wildlife refuge and got a lot of amazing pictures of scenic views. Would definitely do again
The tour guide was very informative and was very successful with his own life stories. I found that to be genuine. He really told a story at every sight we visited. If I ever get the chance to visit Anchorage again, I will definitely take this tour again.
Very knowledgeable tour leader Joan. Interesting conservation centre and portage glacier information
Dan was absolutely amazing! My husband and I had such a great experience on this tour. He was incredibly knowledgeable about Alaska’s wildlife, glaciers, and history, but also made the whole day so much fun with his humor and great personality. He genuinely cared about everyone in the group, always making sure we were comfortable and even helping people in and out of the car. You can tell he truly loves what he does. The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, Portage Glacier, and the views through Chugach State Park were all beautiful, and Dan made every stop even more special with all the interesting information he shared. If you’re looking for a kind, caring, funny, and professional tour guide in Alaska, we highly recommend Dan. Thank you for making this such a memorable experience for all of us!
