Spectacular Chena Hot Springs Northern Lights Experience

We were very disappointed in the choices our Guide made. He picked us up half an hour late and catered to the needs of another Tour Group in the interest of getting more jobs with them. The quality of the van was poor - uncomfortable seating with a cracked windshield. There were eight of us in the group. Six of us waited in the van for at least 2 hrs while our Guide chose to cater to another tour group guide in the interest of getting more gigs with her. It was very disappointing. We will certainly be looking for our future tour needs in companies other than Viator.

John picked me up from my hotel right on time. The van was large and comfortable for the 5 of us. During the ride he gave us lots of information about Alaska, the Hot Springs and anything else we wanted to talk about. The Ice Museum is beautiful but small. The appletinis in the ice glass looked cool but I’m not sure it’s worth the money. You could probably see everything and get pictures in about 30 minutes. The Hot Springs were heavenly. Very relaxing after 2 very long nights. Quick tip: Don’t forget flip flops, shower shoes, etc. I hadn’t originally planned to do this tour so didn’t have any and my feet were frozen by the time I walked down to the springs. They do have them for sale onsite but they can be pricey. You also may want to bring 2 towels as the floor in the locker room is quite wet making it difficult to change without your pants getting soaked at the bottom. We didn’t get food from the restaurant. The Activities Center had quick meals and a microwave which was sufficient for us. We chased the Auroras on the way back and were lucky enough to one pretty good show and one amazing display. John and Parker took very good care of us and as a solo traveler, I felt very included and had a great time!

Johnathan was a great guide. We did a two in one bucket list tour and he took it over the top. We went to the ice bar, swam in the hot spring and saw the northern lights all on one tour. Thank you Johnathan.

It was the perfect experience : the history of the town and the surrounding area, the drive, the moose, the ice museum, the hot springs, the northern lights ! A huge thank you to Nate for such a magical night !

We had a great time. Our guide arrived in time. He was very friendly. We had great time with him. He found a place where we had the best view of Aurora. He took nice pictures. We recommend this tour, it was a great experience.

Experience was great! It was nice to venture off and do your own thing at Chena without having to be on a schedule. Hot Springs was nice despite other reviews Ive seen. The best part was our guide, Blake, was so attentive and throughout the whole night made sure we were having the best experience possible. Would definitely do this tour again. Thanks again Blake!

AMAZING experience. Great guide Nate. He made sure we saw the sights such as moose on the way there, the hot springs were spectacular AND he found a perfect place to see the aurora! We loved it all.

Had a wonderful trip to Chena Hot Springs with the Heart of Alaska Tour company. Nate our tour guide was very attentive and made sure everything was organized and went well for our trip. He was great at spotting Moose on our drive and made an extra special effort to see the Northern Lights. Would definitely recommend them.

Kevin was a welcoming and informative guide. On the drive to the springs, he told us of the history of Fairbanks and stopped the car for wildlife. We saw 4 moose from the safety of the car. He guided us through the hot springs and ice museum upon our arrival. We had ample time to soak in the spring and it was a relaxing evening.

The restaurant was very slow, food was good, but it took way too long. Gift shop was great, nice prices and variety. Showers and changing area is a big challenge, too close together.

Tour guide Kevin spotted moose on the side of freeway when drove to Chena Hot Spring so we were able to take picture of moose. It’s good experience soaking in hot spring with below zero temperature. Kevin was diligently looking for Aurora after we finished hot spring, and all suddenly he spotted it and stopped the car. We all were wowing and staring to the night sky seeing the DANCING AURORA! That’s so amazing beautiful !

Kevin was very amiable and informative. The pace was good. Chena restaurant service was very, very slow. I think they were short staffed. The salmon was overbooked for my taste, not with the price. The hot springs were relaxing, though the walk from the bathhouse to the spring in a swimsuit at -30°F was brisk to say the least. On the way back Kevin helped us find two spots to view the Aurora. We had some good luck. You can't plan that. We got back very late, but it was with it.

It was so fun time thanks to Kevin. Although I was alone and couldn’t speak English fluently, Kevin talked to me a lot and I could enjoy it. He’s super kind and nice!! Also his driving is comfortable. It was memorable time when I ate dinner with all participants and Kevin. Although It was disappointing how we couldn’t see Northern Light because of the weather, he would take you to his recommended place as long as the weather condition is good. I can’t recommend this enough. 日本人の皆様にもおすすめします！

Hot springs are great! The guide took pictures us soaking in the hot springs! But it was cloudy and no spectacular auroras could be seen.

The Chena Hot Springs experience is truly enjoyable, with the hot water offering great relaxation. My only disappointment was not witnessing the Northern Lights during that trip.

Awesome tour. Kevin is a great tour guide , very knowledgeable , and a very safe driver as well. Highly recommend the tour. The hot springs were very therapeutic ( both ice bath and hot bath in one Lol ) and Kevin also stopped for photo ops of the lights on the way back and even took our pictures. Will definitely repeat whenever i am back in Fairbanks.

Our tour to Chena Hot Springs with Kevin was absolutely amazing! Even though the skies were cloudy and we weren’t sure if we’d see the aurora, Kevin kept our spirits high and shared so much fascinating information about Alaska, the lights, and the area. When the restaurant at the hot springs was fully booked, Kevin went above and beyond and made us a cozy campfire nearby, where we grilled reindeer sausage and enjoyed a delicious s’mores casserole. And to top it all off, we did get to see a glimpse of the northern lights, and Kevin took amazing photos of our group with them! He was kind, genuine, and made everyone feel comfortable and cared for the whole time. If you’re heading to Chena Hot Springs or hoping to see the aurora, book with Kevin, you won’t regret it!

Kevin was great as a guide. Very knowledgeable about the area and where we were going. Spent time educating on what produced the northern lights colors as well.

It was an amazing experience, the cqlm bath in the hot springs, the beautiful Aurora Ice Museum, the stars in the sky... But the best time was the bonfire and the auroras, less intense that I wanted but we could see them ;)

Was so glad to have booked as this was the best time of my whole trip. The guide Kevin was so good with great personality. Gave us a lot of info & tips along the way. So much to say but do get the drink at ice museum, it is worth it. Do not forget bathing suit for hot springs as you will regret it. We ended night with fun as we had a nice group that evening. Kevin got some photos for us that I was grateful for also. Do not hesitate to book this tour, you will be as happy as I was.

Enjoyed an amazing tour with Kevin. Gave amazing history of the state and hot springs. The best part of the trip was the northern lights tour. Our tour guide found an amazing remote location and was able to see the Northern Lights. He was great and took photos for us, provided amazing hospitality and customer service. In addition, He provided a bonfire with reindeer brats, smores, & hot cocoa. I highly HIGHLY recommend booking this tour. It was an amazing once in a lifetime experience!

Nate the tour guide went above and beyond to make it a great night from the beginning. Picked up on time at our hotel explain the evening very detailed on the ride out to the springs joined us in the spring with his camera took pictures of everyone in our group and found us northern lights so we could see them in the evening

Was my first time in fairbanks kevin was very knowledgeable of the area and of great places to eat. He was also very knowledgeable of the hot springs location itself. He went out of his. Way to be more than helpful and to make our experience as great as it was

Highly recommend! Kevin from Heart of Alaska Tours is like your buddy who knows the best spots and tips. He got the front row to the Ice Museum, took photos for us throughout the night, and prepared Reindeer sausages and S’more for Northern Lights viewing.

This was a relaxing experience. Kevin is very knowledgeable an attentive guide. He has added a cookout which we really enjoyed. Even though we didn't get to see the northern lights Kevin made this worthwhile.

A really fun night between the Ice Museum, Chena Hot Springs and the chance for some northern lights. Kevin was a great guide and was tuned into the needs of the group. I appreciated the personal stories he shared along the journey and the at he was constantly keeping his eyes peeled for wildlife (we did see a couple moose on the way back) and for signs of the northern lights.

Kevin went well above and beyond expectations. He was not only flexible and INCREDIBLY accommodating, but he ensured that the entire experience was amazing… down to creating a video for us to take home and taking some breathtaking pictures as we viewed the northern lights. I cannot recommend him or this experience more!

It was such a great experience, the hot springs were so nice and relaxing. Kevin was so personable and knowledgeable about the area and the northern lights. He tried really hard to get us to a spot we can see the aurora afterwards too and took great pictures of us. You can really see that he is passionate about his work. I had a great time on this Aurora Hot Springs tour! Kevin was a fantastic guide—he still ran the full tour even though I was the only guest that day. The trip was relaxing and well-organized. The hot springs were very enjoyable, and we were lucky to see the northern lights on the way back. Kevin was professional, patient, and very passionate about travel. He also answered all my questions about Alaska and the aurora, and took beautiful photos of me with the northern lights. It was an unforgettable experience!

Went on the night of lunar eclipse. Soaking in the warm, mineral-rich waters of the hot springs is a must have Alaska experience! The contrast of the steaming water against the crisp, cold air was magical. But the real highlight, of course, was the northern lights, simultaneously happening when the blood moon slowly disappeared. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, providing fascinating insights into the aurora and the Alaska culture. The drive was smooth and comfortable. Kevin does a wonderful job at spotting the best view point for northern lights, even on a cloudy night! Just relax and enjoy the wonderful of nature while Kevin manning the safety of icy Alaskan road and hunting the ethereal dance of Aurora borealis. Highly recommend this tour!

I appreciated the fact that the tour was not cancelled despite the fact that I happened to be the only one that night. Kevin picked me up at the hotel, we started with the ice museum. I decided to skip dinner at the restaurant, but that would have been the next part. I stayed at the hot springs until it got dark, and then he took me to two different places to see the northern lights. The lights were faint but the stars were beautiful.

The tour operator is excellent. Kevin is awesome. The highlight of the trip was Aurora. Kevin would stopped at places to take pic for us. The hot spring is nice but nothing spectacular. Their ice museum is meh.

Best tour ever! From the careful driving on icy roads to spotting a moose casually sipping an appletini (just kidding—but we did see moose!), every moment was incredible. Soaking in the geothermal waters was the perfect way to warm up before witnessing the breathtaking Northern Lights. And the photos? Absolutely stunning! This tour was an unforgettable experience—highly recommend

This tour was an amazing addition to my stay in Fairbanks! I had so many things I wanted to experience, and this tour was the perfect way to check multiple things off my bucket list. Kevin was a fantastic guide—he was in contact with us before the tour, picked us up right on time, answered all our questions about Alaska, and kept the drive fun with his great sense of humor. The spacious van ride alone was worth the tour price, as the road conditions were way beyond my comfort level. I don’t think I could have made it to the springs on my own, so having a skilled driver made the trip stress-free. The ice museum was fascinating, but the real highlight was the hot springs—absolutely incredible! On the way back, we stopped at multiple spots to search for the northern lights, and we found them! The photos Kevin took of us under the aurora are my favorite souvenir and will definitely be next year’s Christmas card. Overall, this was an unforgettable experience and a true highlight of my trip. Thank you for an incredible night and for helping me cross off some bucket list items! Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Fairbanks!
