Ben did an amazing job explaining everything to us about the dogs and their care. He also told us about the training for the Iditarod. He was a great guide.

We had an incredible time with Kate and the whole team. It was very informative and personable. The dogs are very well taken care of - and it shows with how excited they are to do the dog sledding. It was fun to take a tour around the site and learn about dog sledding history and how it connects back to Dallas Seavey. Would highly recommend if you’re a lover of dogs or animals. There were also reindeer on site to pet and feed. Do expect to get a little dirty but it’s well worth it.
The staff were helpful and friendly. Very knowledgeable about the dogs and the mushing experience. Spent time with the dogs after our ride and loved on them, they are all so sweet. Highly recommend!!
Oh this was just a fantastic & unique experience! Everyone was so friendly, the information you learn along the way is fascinating, the doggos have fun names, and Kate.. she’s likely the most beautiful human alive!
The AK sled dog tour was so much fun. We were able to visit and pet the dogs. The ranch had 80 kennels for the sled dogs The we got to drive the sled around the ranch trails. We learned about Dallas Seavey, the dog ranch owner and a 6 time Iditarod winner. The ranch/dog trainers were so nice and provided info about the dog training, food and what happens on the race. Highly recommend this tour.
An exhilarating ride! One of the windiest days of winter/spring, but we were well prepped by Salmonberry tours for the weather! The Seavey Kennel is extremely well kept and organized. Beautiful country, excited happy dogs and a staff ready to show you a good time.
This is the second time my family and I have done this tour and it was again fantastic. The dog sledding was fantastic with so many teams of powerful, but super friendly pups. Cooper did a fantastic job explaining a ton about the dogs, the Iditarod and all of the other sled races. We had a range of ages from 7 to 64 fun was had by all!!
Once in a lifetime experience. We had a great time mushing and cuddling with the dogs, learned a lot about dog mushing and Dallas’ journey and we even fed some reindeers. Fantastic experience.
Absolutely worth the trip! We had an amazing time. The guides Jess Carrie n Gabby were so friendly encouraging and knowledgeable. The dogs were so sweet and just happy to be on the trail. Highly highly recommend to everyone.
Initially overwhelming with all the dogs so excited to see us when we arrived. There were a lot of dogs:-) The dogs were extremely friendly and the staff was excellent. They were very informative and helpful. We mushed our own team of dogs, some of which were past Iditarod winners. The trail was beautiful and it was very fun.
This experience was amazing!! All the guides were super friendly and knowledgeable and gave great instruction. My husband and I had a blast and would do it again in a heartbeat! The dogs were adorable and friendly and the mushing trip was a good amount of time and was super fun without feeling like it was too much for a first time musher to handle.
This was a highlight of our March trip to Alaska. The kids (ages 10 and 7) loved it and so did us parents! It was really a nice amount of time driving the sleds compared to visiting the dogs and learning more about the Iditarod race. Would definitely recommend!
This was an amazing experience! Gabby was one of our guides, and she was great! She was so knowledgeable and encouraging. We were able to mush our own team and she gave us the perfect pointers to have a successful, memorable time! Flying through the woods with the fresh-fallen snow with these dogs was an once-in-a-lifetime experience!
My fiancée and I did the winter tour with a group and it was simply wonderful. Abbie answered all our questions with patience and enthusiasm. The mushing was amazing - no experience needed! The dogs were all social and friendly. 10/10!!
The scenery is amazing, the dogs are awesome athletes and Gabby and crew are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly
A Must Do experience while visiting Talkeetna. The guides and dogs provided us with a once in a lifetime educational, memorable, and dog sledding experience.
The crew and dogs did an outstanding job to make this an enjoyable experience. Cooper and Jess were friendly and knowledgeable. It was interesting to learn more about the Iditarod and especially these pups. The sled ride itself was great. Not too difficult, but you had to pay attention lol.
A quite ride through the woods. Cost was reasonable. Everyone was very friendly and knowledgable. Picked us up at the hotel, was about 4 hours total, 1 hour on the trail. They give you a lesson on the basics and you can drive your own team or they will drive for you. You just follow the team in front of you. Not hard at all, the dogs do all the work. Do come prepared for the cold zero degrees Fahrenheit. They have very limited extra cold weather gear . Two other couples joined us 2 people per sled with 5 dogs each. Cate was our lead musher, she was great. To ride all you really have to do is get there, but to drive you need to stand 30 minutes to an hour if you don’t trade out drivers.
Really well thought out tour. Good communication, transportation from Talkeetna, and a fun experience for the whole family.
Amazing experience! Qualified mushers are talking about dog mushing history, introduction to mushing, great experience of "YOU drive your dog sled". Just amazing!!
From Pennsylvania, 2nd time working with AK. Loved the experience the first time so much, I brought a friend to experience it. Fun, knowledgeable and very capable staff. My thanks to our guide Jess and Shyan for sharing with us what you love to do. Well Done, Dave
Wonderful, all around! Learned to drive a sled dog team, and crushed it (as the kids say)! We learned so much about the Iditarod, Dallas Seavy, and the dogs - many who just ran in this year's race! These dogs live to pull and run - I've never seen such happy dogs! Meeting dog champions, and playing with the puppies was just the best. Easy to get to their meeting place too, and then they take you to the kennels. THIS is the "tour" to take in Talkeetna!
From booking, to pick up and experiencing the magic, this is hands down one of the best travel experiences I have ever had. I booked last minute and was able to chat via text day of to make sure everything was set up. Then Holly picked me up (and the small group booked at the same time) and took us to the site. The drive was filled with trivia and history. Once we arrived we got to meet over 150 dogs, including champions from various Iditarod races, puppies, retired champs… and even some Reindeer! Chole helped me run my team and was such a peach to work with. She made me feel comfortable and confident to drive the sled and took some great pics of me with the dogs. Between her and Holly I left knowing 150% more about dogs, mushing, and the Iditarod AND full of love from cuddling all the dogs. I truly cannot recommend this experience enough. I will be back and brining my friends on our next visit to AK!
What an amazing experience! Wether you are a dog lover or not. Amazing people and dogs all in one place. Learned a lot about sledding and it was fun and very interesting. Holly was great and made it the whole experience enjoyable. Abby was our musher and we had a great time! Highly recommend AK Sled Dog Tours.
Brilliant professional team. Winter and Abbie were so helpful and knowledgeable. Amazing scenery and experience. Can’t recommend it more highly
One of the best tours ever! We visited the area where the new pups and current mushing dogs live. So interesting to hear about their training and mushing as a sport. We then went on a mushing ride where you could opt to ride and/or drive. So beautiful and we loved the dogs. Highly recommend this outfitter!! Cheyenne and Winter were great !! They both went above and beyond to help with a special needs accommodation !!
6 time Iditarod champion, Dallas Seavey runs a superb kennel and sled-dog touring operation! I highly recommend this experience to anyone who loves sled dogs. Abby & Jessica were terrific tour guides who not only took us out mushing but really did a deep dive into the facts, history and daily of life training sled dogs for the Iditarod! I can’t wait to head back to Alaska just to drop in and see how the new puppies are doing! I highly recommend this tour!!! The scenic views are endless and the dogs couldn’t be happier!! ❤️
Our guide was amazing- SO knowledgeable and personable. he had so many interesting stories about moshing and the big race across Alaska. He had great rapport with the guests
Great team and super dogs. Everybody is very friendly and very helpful. As for the dog they are looking for cuddles but once on the trail it s just run and having good time.
Great experience. We loved learning about the dogs and the history behind the team. Playing with the puppies after was great- I just wish we were in a larger pen as mentioned on the website vs. the small cage with 8 people.
Unforgettable Dog Sledding Adventure – A Must-Do in Alaska! I booked a last-minute tour with AK Sled Dog Tours in Talkeetna, and it turned out to be one of the absolute highlights of my 10-day Alaska vacation. I am so glad I went! The facility is huge, and while there are a lot of dogs, every single one looks happy, healthy, and well cared for. The guides are true dog lovers who are passionate about their work and eager to share their knowledge. The tour began with a warm welcome inside a cozy guest house, where we learned about Dallas Seavey and the incredible world of sled dog racing. We then had the opportunity to visit the younger dogs and puppies before heading to the sledding area. The actual sled ride was nothing short of magical. With two people per sled, we were given our own team of eager, energetic dogs, and then we were off—gliding through forested trails and open fields. It felt like stepping back in time to an old Alaskan adventure, where the only sounds were the wind, the soft padding of paws on snow, and the excited barks of the sled dogs. No noisy snowmobiles—just pure, exhilarating mushing. Dallas Seavey's love for his sport and his animals is evident in every detail of this experience. It's no surprise he’s won the Iditarod so many times! Our brief time at AK Sled Dog Tours left us with a newfound appreciation for this incredible sport, and we were even lucky enough to attend the 2025 Iditarod Ceremonial Start afterward. To top it all off, I actually lost an important earring that day and called after hours to see if it had been found. Amazingly, Dacia messaged me the very next morning to let me know it had been discovered! She had it ready to return to me that same day—what incredible kindness and customer service. Thank you, Dacia! Thank you, AK Sled Dog Tours, for an unforgettable experience! You’ve gained a new fan base—we’ll be cheering from afar and reliving these memories for years to come. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommend!
This was absolutely amazing.....I got to be the musher and my sis the rider...I cannot express how incredible this experience was....a true Alaskan experience....
It was a wonderful experience. The staff was knowledgeable, helpful and shared their love of dogs, mushing and the outdoors. It made for a perfect trip from Talkeetna.
Pickup and transportation to the kennel area was flawless and all staff is super friendly. It was amazing to see the dogs and to cuddle with them: they are all so friendly! But absolutely the highlight was being able to drive a sled! That was so-so much fun. Oh, and let me tell you about being mobbed by a "gang" of 8-pound furballs! Beautiful trails through the forest; I was glad the dogs knew where to go :-) and they were excited and eager to run, run, run. Absolutely, 100% recommend this tour!!
Wonderfully unique winter experience. Perfect for dog lovers. I don't think I've ever been around so many dogs in my life. This is a great immersive experience that gives history and understanding of dog sledding and lets you try it out for yourself. Highly recommend.
It was a great experience, a very welcoming team and interesting to learn about some of the Iditarod processes. Strong recommend
We had an absolutely amazing time spent. The dog mushing looks scary, but both me and my friends was able to learn it quickly. Once we grasp the basics (and they also told us how to), it was really fun! Our guides Winter was really knowledgable and was able to answer all of our questions. She introduces us to the history of iditarod race and let us meets with all dogs. Puppies are so incredibly adorable!! So does all the adult dogs!! I am honestly not a huge dog person and I had a lot of fun with the dogs. I can tell how much everyone loves the dog. They are the friendliest and most sociable dogs I had ever met! Not to mention being incredible at pulling the sleds. The only downside is the weather, but that is out of anyone's control. It was really freezing cold. But overall, very satisfied with the time spent here!
We had an absolutely MAGICAL experience! It was everything we hoped it would be. It was educational, exhumed, and heart warming. We learned about sled dogs from puppyhood all the way to retirement….AND saw both ends of the spectrum! My 12 year old and 14 year old say it is the highlight of their trip. Holly was an incredible teacher. She really made the experience comprehensive and something we will remember for our lifetimes. Thank you!!
We had a wonderful day, just two of us on the trip with our driver Brook, as an Alaska local he was very knowledgeable & we had great conversations on our scenic drive. Winter was an absolute delight with her passion for the kennels, great instruction on the sled, we only tipped twice😀 The dogs and puppies were wonderful, hard to leave. Highly recommend this tour & Salmonberry tours for their excellent service
This was one of the best experiences we’ve ever had! The crew is phenomenal. Chloe, our guide, was so knowledgeable and sweet. She answered all of our questions, let us pet and hold all the pups, and took some amazing pictures of our family while sledding. I can’t recommend this experience enough!

I took my wife and kids (4yo girl and 7 yo boy) to this on 11/23/24 and the staff and Alaskan Huskies were amazing! Kudos to you guys on showing us a great time! We started off with a simple meet and greet with the staff and huskies then went straight into demonstrations on controlling the sled. Road trails for 45m then went tour the grounds and went into an open field with the new puppies. Then we went into one of replica stop areas for the Iditarod race and learned all about it. We then went look at the local reindeers that they had on the grounds. We finished where we started with some of the retired Iditarod “Husky Champion's! It was a blast!!!!!! - The Madere clan from Louisiana!
We booked this tour as it stated that the kennel was run by a 5 time Iditarod race winner so we thought it would be good. We weren't wrong. In the booking, we opted for the pick up which was located at a local restaurant. This was good as we had breakfast there prior to the pick up. The van for the pick up came right on time and there was just ourselves and one other couple. The trip was about 15 minutes out of Talkeetna. It was on very snowy and icy roads so I was glad I wasn't driving. You arrive into a large yard and are greeted by a huge kennel site with over a hundred dogs. You go and get sorted out inside a building, get any gear you need and get a run down on what is going to happen. They have some retired sled dogs in there so you get your first taste of sled dogs. These dogs were amazingly friendly but were more interested in staying in front of the heater. You go outside and get a run down on the sleds you are going to drive and get a quick lesson on how to control it. They then load the dogs onto the lines. The dogs are so keen to go, they are raring to be put onto the line to get running. They use the tour dogs, these are the ones they use as they have the champion Iditarod dogs in another section You then put the passenger on the sled and the driver jumps on and onto the sled brake, and the team take the rope brake off so you are ready to go. The tour leader rides out front on a snow machine and leads the way and dogs race off after this. You are followed by another tour guide behind to help if you have any issue. You are then off actually driving a team. What an amazing experience. It was a dream to do this. What an amazing life to live. The dogs are purebred champions. It was amazing to feel just how hard the team of six dogs pulled. You drive for about half an hour and then pull over to swap drivers. The tour guides also give you some tips about how to drive the dogs if they see anything that can help you do better. I got some tips and this helped immensely. You get to interact with the dogs and grab some photos as well at the mid point. After you finish driving the sleds, you pull back into the yard and park up. Once completed, you then get a tour through the kennel and have more interaction with the dogs. You get to meet champion Iditarod winning race dogs. You also meet the new pups as well. It was excellent. The dogs are very friendly. You also learn about how they care for the dogs and they are treated with love and respect and are greatly cared for. These dogs are loved and adored and have an amazing life with only the best care taken of them. Dallas Seavey wasn't there as he had just won his sixth straight Iditarod and was about to return with them. We thank the team for giving us an utterly amazing time and helped us tick this off our bucket list. I can't recommend this tour enough. It was truly an amazing and unforgettable experience.
Sarah, Chloe and Amelia did a fantastic job! We were so impressed by the the dogs. There were almost 100 of them. Any that we interacted with were friendly and well socialized. We took cart rides (no snow) and enjoyed driving them ourselves. Then Chloe gave us a tour of the kennels and the equipment used. GREAT, authentic Alaskan experience.
Awesome experience! We were too late for snow mushing and too early for dry mushing, but they improvised with a side by side and gave us the same full experience. Samantha was extremely knowledgeable and we learned so much about mushing and the running of the Iditarod. Her passion for the dogs and the sport were evident. We interacted with the dogs and their pups also. First class operation all the way around. I highly recommend them!
While we chose to ride instead of mush, this excursion was fantastic. Not a simple ride around the field, you get to mush through the woods for a few miles. The staff is wonderful - you can tell they really care about the dogs and that everyone enjoys their time. We got to get up close and meet some of the animals, see the puppies and equipment used. Learned just how much work goes into the Iditarod. They put extra effort into helping a family with children enjoy their ride - staff even took pictures for them. Took the time to answer everyone's questions and did a great job taking the bus through the rough road to get there. We got picked up in Talkeetna - you should let them drive you there, as the road can get a bit rough. Highly recommend!!
It is the best activity in my life for sure! I’ve had so many various activities over 20 but this is the best!!! The teams are very kind, nice and friendly. I love to super recommend this activity to my friends and family. Thank you for your kind and passion!! The experience and dogs(Coman, Venus, Mani.. ) Will be remembered forever in my life. Go ahead with this team without hesistance!
People are very nice and explained instructions very well. Very pretty views. Once in a lifetime experience. Should be on everyone’s bucket list
The best dog sledding tour out there! You get to drive your own sled! They teach you!! The dogs are so happy and well taken care of! The staff is so helpful and made it extremely fun. We also got to play with puppies!! I’ve been twice now and will only go here!!
I absolutely loved my time mushing and hope to return and do it again. We went on a 3 mile loop through the woods and got to meet several race dogs.
