Ketchikan Salmon Fishing Adventure

Capitan Justin gave a great day of salmon fishing. Wonderful adventure with lots of fun and plenty of fish, even a salmon shark adventure!

We did a family salmon fishing charter with Alaska King Fishing in August, 2026. Our captain met us and dropped us off right at our cruise ship dock. Our party included my two grandsons age 6 and 12. Moses, our captain, was extremely helpful and patient with the boys who were "over-the moon' excited about being able to reel in some nice pink salmon. Our 4-hour charter was cut short because we limited out in about 2-1/2 hours! A fabulous experience- would highly recommend these guys if you want to book a fishing charter out of Ketchikan.

Unbelievable experience!! Our captain was great, boat was great, views were fantastic and over had a wonderful time! Silvers and Kings didn’t cooperate but had all the action with pinks wanted and did get a couple bonus silvers.

We had a great day with Captain Moses. Moses was waiting for us as we departed our cruise ship and quickly got us loaded and on our way. After a short ride we were fishing and enjoying the day. Our group caught 7 pink salmon and 2 coho and took advantage of having it processed and ship back home. We would highly recommend Moses and Alaska King Charter and hope to some day return.

We had a great experience. We were all (4) able to catch our limit of salmon plus a few bonus rockfish. We had originally planned to halibut and salmon fish, but Alaska restricted keeping halibut on Thursday’s, the day we could go. Alaska King fishing charters let us change our reservation to salmon only with no problems. Our guide, Kevin, did an excellent job of putting us on fish. We were catching fish when from what we could see other boats around us were not. Thanks again for the great memories.

Awesome experience all the way from booking to meeting up and of course during the fishing. Reggie was very knowledgeable, flexible and helpful and made this a great trip for us. There were always 3 lines active (unlike some I saw that only put 1 line in at a time) so we caught several coho and rockfish. We had the salmon processed and shipped to our home. Definitely would recommend

Fished with Captain William and his daughter in mid July 2026. Everything about the fishing was fabulous! We caught very large King Salmon. Capt. William knows his business as does all of his family. He took care of having the fish processed and sent home for us to enjoy. I HIGHLY recommend booking fishing with Alaska King Charter. You will catch and feel like family in just 4 hours. We loved it so much we are planning to fly back to Alaska next year just to fish with Capt. William on his wonderful boat that met or exceeded all our needs.

Overall a bit of a disappointment. Weather was miserable, of course, it's Alaska so we knew this was a risk. Caught no Salmon, only 3 small Cod. We trolled for hours in the same spot without any luck. Only moved to a new spot once. Was hoping this would be the highlight of our trip to Alaska, based on web site and marketed testimonials. I really had my hopes up so was pretty disappointed in the day. I read that June was a good month for Salmon but our guide told us that end of June and beginning of July was not a good time. Hmm?

My wife and I wanted to skip the cruise ship excursions during our port day in Ketchikan. Since we love to fish, my wife found Alaska King Fishing Charter online and booked after a great phone call, trusting their 35+ years of family-owned experience. Her choice completely blew away our expectations! The logistics were seamless. Our captain, Moses, was waiting right at the dock with a massive smile the moment we stepped off the cruise ship. The clean, organized boat was less than 100 yards away and stocked with snacks and drinks. Moses gave us a choice between keeping fish or heading to a catch-and-release spot with more action, on our half day trip. We chose the action, and boy did he deliver! Within minutes, we both had fish on the line. We caught a total of 7 King Salmon—each at least 20 lbs—including a monster 38-inch fish weighing over 40 lbs! The wildlife was spectacular, featuring whales, and numerous eagles swooping just 20 yards away. But the absolute best part of the trip was Moses himself. As a Native Alaskan, his unbridled enthusiasm kept us stoked all day. He was funny, professional, and shared beautiful stories about his family, culture, and growing up in Alaska. He is truly an inspiring, all-around decent human being. Props to my wife for picking the perfect local charter. We cannot recommend Alaska King Charter and Moses enough!

We had a great time, we called last second after arriving from our cruise in Ketchikan and they picked us up within 15 mins. We had a tight schedule and the captain worked within these parameters and we caught several huge kings and had us back with time to spare. It was a very enjoyable trip with some great first time memories made and definetely will be using them the next time we are in Ketchikan.

We booked a 4 hour salmon fishing trip and had the best time. Kevin our captain/guide picked us up literally right next to our cruise ship, and he was waiting for us as we walked off the ship. The boat was in great shape and clean. After a short ride Kevin got us set up on downriggers to troll for salmon. The boat is equipped with Garmin gps/fish finders so Kevin knew how deep we should be fishing. Within minutes of dropping our lines we had our first fish on. We hit mostly pinks, but did catch some baby kings (had to throw them back) and my daughter got a decent silver. We also got a Little Rock fish. There were times we had 2 fish on at once, and another time while bringing in a fish a whale surfaced next to us! Overall a great trip. We could only do 4 hours due to our cruise schedule but would recommend 6 hours if you have time because it is so great.

When we planned our Alaska vacation, I knew my husband and two sons would want to fish — but I didn’t expect it to be such an amazing experience! From the moment I booked our charter, everything was easy. The person who answered the phone was friendly and informative, and when fishing day came, it only got better. Our skipper, Justin, is hands down one of the coolest people we’ve ever met. He was easy to talk to, clearly knew his stuff, and treated our 10- and 12-year-old boys with respect, like they were part of the crew. Even though the fishing started out slow, Justin went above and beyond to make the day memorable. The boys caught sablefish, and by the end of the day — salmon! We were all thrilled, and so was Justin. It’s rare to see someone genuinely happy to make kids’ dreams come true, but that’s exactly how Justin is. We had such a great time that we’re already planning a trip back to Ketchikan next summer just to fish with him again. We highly recommend Alaska King Charter - especially Justin!

5 stars all the way ***** Kevin took us out salmon fishing. He knew the area very well and our family of 4 was very comfortable on this boat. We caught so many fish, we had to stop fishing because we had reached our limit! Bonus was the many bald eagles we saw during our adventure, including one flying right over our boat very low. It was a beautiful trip, and Kevin was able to dock his boat basically directly behind our cruise ship, which made for a very convenient pick-up and drop-off.

We had Kevin as our captain, who was amazing and fully of local knowledge. When we started out a little slow due to the tidal waters going out, you could see his frustration to the slow start. We soon hauled in 10 Silver Salmon and 2 Rock Fish. We caught 2x that amount, but those Silver's are slippery! We also had a Bald Eagle flying no more than 10 feet off the deck of the boat. Incredible day on the water! Highly Recommend this outfit and ask for Kevin!! Stay away from the Cruise Line tours - book on your own for a personalized and more exciting experience!

We had a great time with Captain Mike! We originally planned to fish for salmon, but he recommended we fish for cod and halibut as salmon fishing hadn’t been very good recently. We got a ton of cod, an unexpected shark and halibut, and our anchor caught a halibut! Mike was super chill and helpful and knowledgeable and we 6 of us had a great time!

Justin was awesome! Never went more than 10 minutes without a fish, great energy and attitude which made it a great stop in Ketchikan for us and our 3 boys! Highly recommend Justin!

Epic 3 hours with Captain Mike! In the first five minutes we landed my 35lb King, then never went more than 15 minutes without another salmon, landing 4 big Silvers, 5 Pink, 1 Chum, and several other Kings that we released. We quit 1 hour early because we had enough!!

It was and amazing experience. Kevin was a great guide and had us catching fish the minute the line was in the water. Watching my kids catch a salmon for the first time was truly a once in a life time experience.

From the minute William set the lines, we started catching. He worked tirelessly to get us on and keep us in the King Salmon. My family had a fantastic time catching fish! Can't wait to go back!

This is a great fishing charter in Ketchikan. Kevin is an excellent guide, the boat was clean and stocked with everything we needed for a fun day on the water. Kevin is very knowledgeable of the area and put us on Kings, Silver & Chum Salmon and Rockfish. Excellent trip and if you’re looking for a guided fishing charter, this is a great one!

We had an amazing time with Captain Kevin. We were all able to catch some king salmon and even caught some chum salmon. I would highly recommend this company. Extremely organized, professional, and fun. We will be coming back again. Thanks again Kevin for a great time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our four hour fishing trip with Justin. He was super funny and knowledgable, and he really made a tougher day of fishing enjoyable. We were grateful to each bring a home a king salmon and have cool stories to tell. Would fish with him again anytime.

What an amazing father and son team! Put us Olin fish and were great company on top of that. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to scratch halibut fishing of their bucket list!

Kevin was our captain for our all day private fishing charter. We purchased the combo but he gave us the option to stay on the Halibut and Cod we had found. He was very professional, kept us all (6) baited at all times, and let us do as little or much as we wanted. We are a family of 3/3 boy/girl and everyone had a great time! We easily caught our limit of Halibut. The boat was new, heated and had a restroom to keep all family members comfortable and enjoying our day in Alaska fishing. Thank you Kevin for an amazing day, it was the highlight of the trip for our 4 young adult children!

Had a short cruise stop with an outdoors loving family who wanted to try at least some of Alaska's fishing. My wife booked away from the cruise and was so easy. Got calls back about what was hitting and what William could do to maximize our trip. Settled on salmon and Rockfish - we all hooked into several and had a great time - William became one of the family in a short couple hours. IF (not when) we get back we'll be on his boat again!

As a group of four adults, we had mixed experience levels from beginner to intermediate but none ever fishing for salmon, let alone in Alaska. While we were hoping for Kings, we quickly understood the time of year was not right to target them, so we switched gears to target some pink salmon, and did we ever catch them. We had to quickly evolve an assembly line with the crew so we could keep up with the amount of hook ups we were having. After just near an hour including travel time to the location, we had our limit of pink salmon in the boat. A gorgeous day had us back at the dock early to enjoy the rest of what Ketchikan offered. Would highly recommend.

The trip was totally a blast and awesome. Was struggling getting something booked with the 3rd party companies that would work with our cruise time. Contacted them directly as we were on our way to the cruise and they got us in without any problems. Dad and I both caught keeper king salmon and loved every minute. Can't thank alaska king charters enough

This was one of our best excursions of our trip. We caught our limit in less than 2 hours and even got to see a whale pass by!

The trip was great. Captain Justin and Deck Hand Reggie were the best. They picked us up just outside the door of the ship, very convenient. 30 minute ride to the fishing area, took 90 minutes for our group to catch limit of 36 salmon. Reggie and Justin were the best, they took care of all the gear and wonderful to work with. The owner Captain William was also great to work with, he took care of some issues we had with our booking, the company is is very professional at all levels.

Great trip with Kevin, our captain and fishing guide. Strongly recommend. Between the three of us, we caught 14 salmon in about two hours. Terrific trip, great boat, and nice experience for two newbies. Thank you Kevin and Alaska King Fishing Charters.

In October, I called 9 guides to look into taking my family on a fishing trip while we were in Ketchikan during a Cruise. 7 didn't respond, 1 texted me back after I booked with the Captain William @ Alaska King Charters. Captain William asked me if he minded that he face-timed me. I said yes, He then showed me his boat, his place and where they would pick me up off of the cruise ship. Talking about a personalized experience! Then we get on the boat with Captain Kevin. I can't say enough good things about how he worked the boat and put us on fish! All four of us caught out limit plus 3 Kings we had to release. My family had an awesome time and we are looking forward to having smoked salmon for the next year! Captain William and his son Reggie were exceptional. They were very helpful and their expertise helped us reach our fishing limit in less than 90minutes! We would highly recommend them to anyone visiting Ketchikan!

Captain William and his son, Reggie, provided an excellent experience. They provided just the right amount of support while facilitating independence on this excursion. Their expertise was evident, with us catching our limit for 4 people quickly, with plenty of time to spare. They were pleasant, friendly, and easy going. Had Capt William and his son Reggie as our crew for a half day salmon charter. Great boat, great weather, William and Reggie were very nice. This was a great trip for my 85 year old father in law and my two teen girls. My brother in law and I have fished in Alaska for years and this charter was a bit disappointing from a fisherman’s perspective. First of all you are trolling with down riggers. We had 6 of us yet only four poles in the water. So we took turns when we got a bite. Not a huge deal but if we pay for 6 I would have liked to have 6 poles in the water. Every other fishing charter I’ve gone on does this. Not a huge deal, was fun for everyone else. Often times when we got a bite the first mate would set the hook, after awhile I tried to grab the rod first so we could set the hook since that’s the best part. After the fish was on the drag was set so incredibly tight that none of the dozen or so fish we caught ever spooled line out. The line was very strong too which probably was so the capt didn’t lose any gear. No biggie for inexperienced anglers but compared to my other salmon fishing trips was a little disappointing. Lastly I was surprised that the crew didn’t bleed our fish. Like hunting, the sooner you bleed the meat the better it will taste. For the amount we paid to have our fish processed and shipped ($300 for 25 pounds to Seattle) I would have preferred better care of the fish. Overall it was a great trip with family and we all enjoyed William and Reggie, 95% of clients won’t know any difference and will have a trip of a lifetime. However if you have experienced fishing in Alaska outside of half day cruise charters be aware this is really not comparable

Our group of six had an amazing outing with Landon! He was incredibly skilled and attentive, yet unobtrusive. So we got to create our own vibe, but he readily answered any and all questions about fishing and living in Alaska. We learned so much AND caught our limit under the watchful eyes of several bald eagles. So amazing. We are staying in town, and wanted to bring some fish back to the house to cook, so Landon demonstrated the cleaning and gutting of a pink…ready to put on the BBQ!

Ship came in late William met us on the docks ward 4. Made it very easy to get started on our fishing adventure. We caught lots of salmon and then did some bottom fishing for Rock fish. 3 of the kids caught rock fish. Daughter-in-law caught the biggest fish. Great time William was very knowledgeable sportsman all around.

Capt. William provided a great day on the water. We knew it wasn't going to be the best fishing in May, but being on the water was amazing. Saw a whale and eagle close up. Caught a couple of rock fish and some smaller King Salmon. Looking forward to coming back when the Salmon are in. Capt. William is very knowledgable and skilled in fishing in the area! Highly recommend!

These guys know how to fish !! We were limited out by 9am !!! Their boats are clean and comfortable. They have new equipment Garmin electronics and the knowledge of what bait to use and what depth to use it. I will be back and fish with Alaska King Charters !!

Kevin was our Captain and we had a great fishing experience. He was very helpful and attentive to everyone on the boat. The first hour we maxed out our catch of pink salmon and headed out to do some Halibut fishing. Kevin was funny and very knowledgeable about fishing. He was a great teacher and made it fun for all of us. It was my first time deep sea fishing and he made it a very memorable trip!!! We caught one huge halibut we had to throw back and three nice sized keepers! The fish we were going to have for dinner that night he cleaned it on the boat for us to take. The rest were ready In the morning. Thank you for an amazing trip with lots of great memories made.

Had a very good time on the Alaska King Charter. William, Reggie and Cho were great wish we had more time to fish, we caught our limit of Salmon and a nice Halibut would have closed the show.

Alaskan King Charters was awesome, we had Kevin as our captain for 3 days and he was super knowledgeable, knew where the fish were and what they were going to do and most importantly how to catch them, and we did! William was wonderful and made our big group of 10 feel welcomed and at home. He went above and beyond to make sure our trip was u forgettable. The experience was amazing and I will surly be coming back every year and will only go with Alaska King Charters. Fully recommend and you won’t be sorry booking these guys if you can!

We had a great time pick up was on time the crew and the skipper were great they know how to put us right on fish we caught lots of fish and had a great time.

I was always doubting if l would like fishing in Alaska. But with this group and nice capitain, this trip turned to a wonderful one.
