I had such a great experience and was lucky to go solo. Devon was an excellent communicator and the booking was on a perfectly clear and calm day. I was picked up at my hotel as I was the only customer. The outfit was perfectly equipped and he had all the gear we needed. We kayaked in tandem and I felt safe with his directions. We saw Bald Eagles, sea stars and a lively bunch of seal lions. Because it’s October it the experience was serene and peaceful. It was the perfect excursion. Devon was so nice and knowledgeable about the area and wildlife and local cultures. I would absolutely book again and recommend his tour to anyone looking to get out on the water and see the area from this unique perspective. Thank you so much Devon, for taking me out in the off season! It was a wonderful day.

Itinerary
Our typical paddling route features a small island that is host to a large bald eagles nest whose residents have eaglets every summer. Watching the fledglings grow up and learn to fly is a highlight of our summers here. Depending on the weather and the wildlife we can paddle around as many as 3 small islands per tour. But when the Whales show up or the Sea Lions are feeding they do a pretty good job of dictating the tour route and pace.
Private transportation from our downtown office across from the cruise docks is provided and excellent rain gear is provided if needed that day. After gearing up and a quick lesson, you'll board your kayak and your nature viewing will begin. The total tour time is 4 hours dock-to-dock with 2 to 2.5 hours on the water for most groups. Both hot and cold refreshments and a local smoked salmon snack are prepared for when you return from paddling. Our relaxed pace and small groups mean we're not just rushing you into the van as soon as you hit the dock.
Eco-tours are limited to 12 guests per departure with a 6:1 guide to guest ratio. Sometimes we are all out on the water watching something fantastic and stay together, other times the group split into two seperate tours on the water. We're flexible. Private party tours for up to 20 guests are sometimes available upon request.
You'll be paddling tandem sit-inside kayaks for their roominess and stability. No swimming on this tour.

Great exercise but not too hard amazing views , guide was great polite and knowable highly recommended
Such a great day. We held starfish and molusces, saw eagles and watched sea lions play around us. Devin and Spencer were great guides and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
We spent a beautiful, peaceful afternoon on the ocean with Aine. We are experienced kayakers but had never been shown how to enter a kayak from a dock. Aine’s method was effortless, safe and efficient. We saw sea lions, harbor seals, eagles, jelly fish, star fish, etc. and learned about the surrounding area. Aine shared her knowledge about the wildlife, expanding on the studies of starfish. We had snacks after our time on the water, locally caught and smoked salmon - it was delish! We were picked up and dropped back to our cruise ship on time and the drivers shared information about Ketchikan.
The kayaking was very fun! We saw lots of wildlife. The guides were knowledgeable and the pace was relaxed yet also adventurous. Local snacks and beverages were a nice touch.
This is an opportunity to kayak in Alaska. Unless you are in the kayak with the guide, you will not be able to hear much of what she is saying. We did love kayaking with sea lions and it was a beautiful day!
We had a wonderful time on the Ketchikan Kayak Eco-Tour! The scenery was beautiful, the kayaking was fun and relaxing, and it was a great way to experience Alaska from the water. Everything was well organized, and the guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and made us feel comfortable throughout the tour. It was a great experience for our whole family and definitely one of the highlights of our time in Ketchikan. Highly recommend!
We absolutely loved every second of our time on the water with Ketchikan Kayak Company! Anya was an amazing guide; knowledgeable, friendly, and made the whole experience so much fun. We were lucky enough to see humpback whales, sea lions, bald eagles, and harbor seals, and being out on the water surrounded by all that wildlife was truly incredible. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Ketchikan and an experience we won’t forget. I would highly recommend Ketchikan Kayak Company to anyone visiting Ketchikan. And as if the amazing experience wasn’t enough, they had delicious snacks waiting for us at the end! Five stars all around!
Easily a major highlight of my trip to Alaska. This part of the world is so pretty so why not enjoy it from sea level with a fantastic companion? Cameron and Jenny were great guides both for honing my paddling technique and providing so much interesting information about the local flora and fauna. Like what is a carotenoid, anyway? ;-) Thanks to everyone at Ketchikan Kayak Co. for a great first experience in a sea kayak.
Beautiful day on the water and we saw a ton of sea lions, jellyfish and other wildlife. The guides were great! The kayaks were very stable and the route was beautiful
Great experience! Definitely encourage this one if you want to do more than shopping and walking. Spencer was very informative and lots of fun!
Jenn and Cam were top notch. Great outfit and people. Owner picked us up and handed us off to Sarah for rest of ride. Her driving pretty aggressive and no personality. Trip in kayaks was the best. Saw eagles, jellyfish and one harbor seal and one sea lion. Hard work but well worth it. Perfect weather and great experience
Our guides, Cam & Anya, were terrific. The tour was well paced and very informative. The location was stunning.
What a wonderful experience this was. Pickup went smoothly. The driver explained things about the town etc on our drive over. It was a bit rainy and the rain gear they gave us was top notch. Our two guides are what made it all extra special, Jen and Hanna. They explained everything as we went along. We saw two bald eagles, a few seals. Saw lots and lots of starfish. Hanna grabbed one and let everyone hold it. She also did this with a non stinging jellyfish. As an extra treat they have a nice charcuterie board with some delicious smoked salmon for us when we got back. Very nice 4 hour trip.
We had Spencer as our guide and he was very nice, informative, and helpful. They provided rain gear for us which was needed. The tour took about 2 hours and we got to see quite a bit of wildlife. We saw bald eagles, seals, salmon jumping, and starfish that we got to hold. After we completed the tour they had an assortment of snacks and hot beverages.
We enjoyed a great day with Ketchikan Kayak Eco Tour as part of an Alaska Cruise. Pickup was very easy at the covered area by Sockeye Sam's and we has a comfortable van ride with a small group (several from our Celebrity Ship and a family of four from the Princess ship.) Weather is unpredictable in Alaska and this excursion runs regardless of rain. They provide high quality warm and dry rain gear, brief paddling instructions (most in our group were experienced with kayaking) and then two guides (Spencer and Anya (spelling ??) took out our five kayaks of 10 people. They stay in communication by radio but split up the group for more personal time with the guide. We were able to see eagles, sea stars around an island and the highlight was the hunting sea lion that we watched repeatedly come up with a fresh catch and circle around our boats. We returned to warm beverages and smoked salmon dip and a brief comfortable ride back to the port. A great day, great excursion and worth the price for the small group experience away from the cruise crowds (5 ships in port this day and we enjoyed the peace of a secluded Clover Bay kayak.)
Great experience rain or shine. Alaskan weather is unpredictable and we went out on a very rainy day resulting in calm waters and better wildlife viewing (sea lions, sea stars, harbor seals, eagles.) They provide great rain gear to stay warm and dry and warm beverages and snacks at the end.
A very easy way to navigate and now you can say you were sea kayaking! Group well organized and leaders kept everyone engaged and having a good time. You go rain or shine and we had both. We are seniors and did not find this too difficult. They treat you to some snacks after including salmon and crackers!
My husband and I cruised to Alaska with two other couples. From the minute I scheduled the kayak trip and spoke directly with Devin, the communication was amazing all the way! Weather was perfect and Hannah and Julie were there BEST guides! We had a fantastic trip. Highly recommend.
Great trip with very friendly and knowledgeable guide . Sea lions were awesome !
The guides were very efficient and kind. Thoughtful to take care of any concerns. Rain gear is provided and I highly suggest taking advantage of it. Our day was very rainy so it was essential! Guides were informative about the area. We saw sea lions… no otters on this particular body of water.
This was such a special experience. The water was so calm and peaceful, and we saw 2 humpback whales around our kayaks almost immediately! Spencer was so friendly and knowledgeable. Easy transfer from the cruise ship dock. Some paddling, but at your own pace. Highly recommend!
Great experience. Picked up from our NCL cruise that docked at Ward Cove on time and with no hassle. Short 10 min drive to Clover Pass where we did our activity. Our guide - Cameron was very friendly and knowledgeable. Had over 2 hours on the water kayaking between and around islands seeing lots of wildlife including a sea lion and bald eagles. On our return there were snacks ready which was a nice touch. Small group and good value for money. Well worth doing if you fancy a kayaking experience. Thank you
We had the most magical day today. Our guide Spencer was fantastic! Best of all we shared Clover Pass Cove with two whales! We were able to get within 100 yards of them and they stayed in the cove with us for at least a half an hour. Spencer said he hadn’t seen whales for over three months. And today they just hung around with us. I definitely recommend this tour and would love to do it again.
All the guides were very friendly and even shared activities to do outside of the guided adventure. We were blessed with a sunny day, and it was a relaxing on the water. Would very much recommend.
Spencer was a great guide! Showed us and taught us a lot of cool things. We even got to see some cool wildlife on our trip.
We had the most amazing kayaking experience ever!!! We got to see a humpback whale super close us. It was totally worth the price and I would totally do it again. We got to experience so much while on this trip!!! Our guide was the best.
Not as strenuous as I expected. We are 58, and loved it. It’s such a different perspective from the water. They do a great tutorial that helps with your kayaking, getting in and out of boat. I felt safe the whole time. We saw Eagles, starfish, seals and sea lions.
The tour was very well put together. We were picked up at our Norwegian cruise ship & it was a 15 minute drive from there to the dock area. They have nice facilities with bathrooms. They have dry bags to loan out as well as rain gear. You can leave the stuff you don’t need on the kayak in their office area. The kayaks were good. We had a nice long kayak experience & saw eagles, sea lions, seals & starfish. Also the scenery was stunning. Our guide, Cameron, was super sweet & knew the good spots to check out.
Jenny guided us around the islands and pointed out sea life as well as bald eagles. She took family pictures and sent them to me after! What a lovely experience!
Spencer, Jenny, and Hannah were phenomenal. All 3 were so sweet & personable. We were able to learn SO much about the wildlife in Ketchikan and even see a whale!
Jenny from the block was 11/10 guide. We had a gorgeous day thankfully- saw whales, sea lions, starfish, sea anemone, moon jellies & bald eagles! Great team and a great tour
We had a great time on this experience. We hugged the coast line and saw many sea stars, sea anemones, bald eagles and a sea lion eat a very large fish. It was a long kayak but doable definitely worth the money.
Lovely kayaking experience!
We came off a cruise and found our Driver right away. Easy drive to the kayaking dock. Everybody was so wonderful and accommodating and we had a great intro before getting on the kayaks. Our guide Cameron was fabulous. We got to see seals, starfish, bald eagles and a humpback whale. Who could ask for more :)
Transportation to and from the cruise port area was extremely organized! Our driver was knowledgeable of the area and shared information with us during our ride to and from Clover Pass. Once we arrived we were provided with bibs to help keep us dry and we started the excursion. Our guide, Erica, was wonderful! She knew so much about the wildlife and as very helpful throughout the excursion. We were able to see bald eagles, star fish, sea lions, plenty of salmon and even a humpback whale!
Fabulous experience! Loved it! Kam and Jen were fabulous guides! Highly recommend this tour company.
Moderate physical activity for the person seated in the back. Unique kayaking with emphasis on local sea creatures & flora. Very educational & the entire family enjoyed it. You will be tired afterwards! Perfect timing for our shorter port day as we had time to explore a little bit of downtown before going on the kayaking trip.
This was a great tour! We lucked out with the weather and it was a beautiful day to see eagles, starfish and seals! Our guide Jenny took us to some cool spots and shared facts about wildlife. Brutus the sea lion saw us off and welcomed us back.
The guides were very knowledgeable and fun to be on the water with. It gave us the opportunity to see some wildlife up close
This was an absolutely terrific experience. I am a recreational kayaker and I found this to be something accessible to all ranges of skills. We had two guides on our tour and both did a spectacular job of teaching everyone basic skills with regards to paddling and getting in and out of the kayak. This was very kid and adult friendly. I would also highly recommend it for anyone going solo as well. All kayaks are tandem so you either get paired with another fellow group member or one of the guides! I was paired with Aine during my tour and I was so incredibly lucky. They were so fun to chat with and just had so so much knowledge and cool facts about the wildlife, ecosystem, Alaska in general, you name it! I saw so much cool wildlife including seals, sea lions, and bald eagles. I had truly gorgeous weather during my trip and was so fortunate. I did the Clover Pass option and thought it was really lovely. If you're looking at it on the map it may seem as if you will be near the cruise ship areas, but you are in a sheltered cove and you truly get an experience you cannot get on a larger ship or otherwise. If you're a avid kayaker looking for a physical challenge this may not be for you, but if you just want to vibe with nature than I would recommend this for anyone! Pickup and drop off were seamless and very well communicated. We picked a few people up at Ward Cove so I can vouch that that process works very well too.
Onya did a great job with us on the tour. This being a summer job for her, she is very outdoorsy and very capable on the water and about the wildlife. Felt very safe and she explained things as we went along. A great different experience. The company makes sure you stay dry if you want with supplied gear. They also teach how to get in and out of kayak so as not to tip it. We had light rain showers and sun and the experience was still great. It is not hard so any level would be okay here. Families would do okay with about 8 yrs and older depending on maturity and size. I would recommend the guide wear a head mic. If they are ahead it can be hard to hear what is being said as the voice does not travel backwards well. She took time to get to know everyone a bit on the tour, paddling beside each couple or solo. Had a lite snack after, which included salmon and crackers and drink. Nice touch and much appreciated. We had fun even at our age. They are very conscientious about time and had us back right when promised.
Awesome experience. Beautiful scenery! We saw whales spouting in the distance, eagles, seals and starfish. We also saw a mink. Our tour guide spencer was super friendly and informative. We kayaked at a fairly leisurely pace. Nothing crazy. I def recommend this.
Wonderful laid back paddle experience led by knowledgeable guides. Brutus the sea lion followed us for a while but was intensely interested. We saw many 🦅, some island deer, orange and purple star fish lions mane jelly fish and enjoyed time out both island paddling and a bit of inlet sea paddling. It rained but this group is well prepared with gear to keep you warm and dry. Kudos and thank you we will see you in May!
The guides provide good training about how to kayak, and the location is wonderful. We saw many bald eagles in the area and seals playing in the water. I missed a sea lion visit at the dock. Overall it was an excellent guided sea kayak tour in southeast Alaska.
2nd time I've been, the last one was 10 years ago. Still an amazing experience, seeing seals and eagles, as well as detailed knowledge on other wildlife, nature, and geography. Both guides were knowledgeable and friendly. Tour ended wirh snacks and drinks. Would go again, maybe another 10 years!
We had a terrific day on the water. They provided everything you could want, information on wildlife as well as local history and culture, snacks and drinks after the tour, and transfers to the cruise port. We were lucky to have beautiful weather but regardless, I would absolutely recommend this kayak tour
Great trip. Spencer is a great guide. He pays attention to the conditions and what customers want to see.
The pickup was right in front of our cruise dock (berth 3) and the guide was super friendly and talked to us about Ketchikan as we drove to the kayaking location. We had 3 guides for around 9 of us, and they told us so much about the wildlife and catered the tour to what we were interested in seeing. We were incredibly lucky and saw a whale about 100 feet away from us while we were kayaking, which is NOT normal, but super awesome! The guides’ knowledge, kindness, and customer service was absolute top notch. And the smoked salmon snack afterwards was incredibly yummy. I was surprised they even provided dry bags for us to borrow. So overall definitely recommend. I’d say for a normal day, you’ll likely see sea stars and bald eagles, and probably also seals. Usually not a whale.
A beautiful paddle with lots of amazing marine wildlife led by knowledgeable and friendly tour guides. So glad we took time to explore the waters. Definitely recommend!
